I'm glad to see the success this patient has had. I'm not sure that it's necessarily what others should always expect. I didn't get out of the sling after my complete reverse shoulder replacement for 6 and a half weeks and then I could only bend my elbow. I could not move my arm to the right or left more than a half an inch. Moving it forward and backward was still in the future. Raising my hand over my head as this patient does so comfortably was much much later. Also, since I live alone I had no one to take care of me and so I was sent to a nursing center for a while. They were afraid I'd trip and fall. I was 13 days away from home. The good news is that it wasn't painful. I used no pain killers after the first day or so. I have good use of the arm now although it gets tired quickly. I can raise my hand over my head easily and reach for things on the high shelf. It's been over five months and I'm not sure I will ever get my hand behind my back. I seem to be stuck at the stage this patient is at. I plan to talk to the surgeon again about this and see if I can get more movement. Still, I've very glad to have this second chance because I broke the head completely off the humerus and the arm had already been previously injured with inoperable tendon damage.

This is encouraging. I have to have both shoulders replaced and I'm not at retirement age.

Thank you so much, my husband is very nervous for his procedure on 7/19/2022
You gave him a huge shot of reassurance and optimism for his outcome.

For this guy to be able to do the jumping Jack arm motion less than a month post makes him some sort of Superman.

I had it 2 1/2 months ago, and I can finally fix my hair as of yesterday. I am going very slow, still in PT and still limited.

I'm 4 weeks out and I can't stress enough to do your exercises! Rest your shoulder when it gets tired!
I'm very happy with my progress so far!

I'm ten days away from this surgery and honestly, scared to death because my other shoulder had a 'repair' years ago that was unimaginable pain and 7 months to heal. My new surgeon I have is top rated in our state told me this is nothing like a rotator cuff repair and I won't have that kind of pain. Would you agree????? How are you now??

You are right! I’m 5 1/2 weeks out and I haven’t had pain since the 4th day after surgery. I go to therapy and do my exercises at home. I’ve even, with care, have resumed doing some things around the house. I had a reverse shoulder replacement and my surgeon is excellent. I had surgery on both of my feet for bunions and hammer toes 15 years ago and it was harder and longer to recover from.

    Thank you!
I will be going through this eventually. I wanted to see how long before I can get going again.

The immobilization period is determined by your surgeon. 4-6 weeks is common.

Having a #surgery is a stressful event. At AOSMI we are dedicated to providing all of our #patients with first hand information on the procedure they are about to undergo. If you had, or are having a reverse #shoulderreplacement surgery this patient video #testimonial should be the first resource you check out. The patient discusses the surgery, his excellent range of motion and Dr. Nasar details the procedure.

Thank you for this video it was very helpful. I have no rotator cuff in my right shoulder (2 previous surgery attempts) and now it dislocates very easily would this surgery help me with that?

That is impressive! You'd still be in a sling if it was a rotator cuff repair.

Thank you for sharing this video. That is impressive! Are you taking no pain meds? Not even Tylenol or Ibuprofen? I’m 5 weeks post op and I’m told not to do any active range of motion or take my arm backward or inward. I had good muscles and intact rotator cuff. I need a Celebrex daily. I’m getting frustrated. When are you going back to work?

IHC hospitals din't give ice machines anymore, at least mine didn't. If I had gone to a non ihc hospital I would have gotten one. Which is sad they do help a lot. Next time no ihc hospital. IHC quit giving them in January. If I had known that I would have chosen a different hospital.

I'm not impressed. I'm told I need the surgery and I have the range of motion he has. Let me see him raise a fork to his mouth without having to raise his elbow over higher than his ear, or write on a whiteboard. Then I'll be impressed.
