My wife had the reverse shoulder surgery on 2/15/24. The first few days afterward were pretty rough but we made great progress in the past two weeks. Diane is adjusting very well to being waiting on! Her main complaint is with sitting in a recliner all the time and wearing the sling all the time. She understands it is necessary, but both are a pain. The surgeon gave her a good report this week and scheduled PT starting next week. Thank you for the great video. Diane is on a similar path and it is good to hear how others have handled the experience.
Glad she's doing well. I would strongly suggest she only do what her PT tells her to do. Especially a little later when she's feeling like she can do things. Don't do it!!!! Take time to heal you will regret moving to quickly.
I"m so so glad to hear of Diane's progress, and I"m sure she's even better now. 4 years out and my surgery is a distant memory. My quality of life is superb. Diane's will be, too!
I had my Reverse Shoulder Surgery on the 15th of September 2023. I was awake throughout the operation as I had nerve-blocking anaesthesia, which took 27 hours to wear off. I stayed in the hospital overnight. I was given only Paracetamol for the pain as I have heart disease. Eight days on I am still in dreadful pain and my shoulder is very stiff. I do the exercises the hospital told me to do which is difficult because of the pain. I am 76 years old and have already had three shoulder repairs, two on the left and one on the right, they left me with rotator cuff tears and snapped tendons. That is why I have had my first shoulder replacement and I will eventually get the right one done sometime in the future. Dressing is very difficult due to my other arm bieng in a poor state. I wish you all the best in the future and I hope everything turnes out ok.❤
You just told my story, had a left reverse shoulder in 4 weeks ago and the right one is worse. So I am having a time of it, I am 77 and thankfully still have my husband, and he helps me dress and get out of bed, which you know is so hard if you can’t push up on your arms, having the right shoulder replaced in January and hopefully that will make me independent again. Good luck and feel better soon.😊
@@NikkiGregoryThank you. Both my wife and I are very unwell with a flu like virus that seems to be ver hard to get rid of, at the moment my doctors surgery is not giving out appointments as this virus is effecting a great many people.
I watched your video before getting mine ten days ago. The nerve block makes day one after the surgery a breeze. Day two, I took some pain meds only to sleep at night. No more pain meds since day four. Help is needed for some things, but one can manage if you prepare in advance. Go to post-op meeting with surgeon on day 10 (tomorrow) and begin PT shortly after. Since day two, I have been doing the limited exercises they recommend and now go for short walks around neighborhood. Being limited to one arm is difficult, but the pain I had before surgery is gone and I am sure this will all be an improvement. Thanks for your video!
You're doing remarably! Congratulations! And, it will only get better. I was clear and free at about 11 to 12 months. Now it's a distant memory. Yes, preparation is the key!
73 male. Surgery 3/8/24 rev replacement. Pain not that bad. 4 Tylenol, 2 Aleave, for the pain, but if i did it again I would not take anything. I can put on a shirt in 2 minutes. Hard to do two handed stuff, but if you plan and think it through you can take care of yourself. Showering is possible if you have a hand held with long hose. Practice shaving, sling wearing, eating, BEFORE the surgery! Hamburger not steak.......THINK!
Oh, gosh, Marsha, I KNOW those nerves you're experiencing. And, thank you. I wanted to get the real feel of it while I was just recovering. You're gonna do great! xo ally
My reverse replacement is on February 28th by Dr Baldauf at Desert Orthopedics in Las Vegas. I previously had the same thing on the left side back around 2015 in York, Pennsylvania, and I also spent one night in the hospital, but Dr Baldauf said I will probably go home the same day, and I will have to raise my arm over my head and put my hand behind my back before I leave that day. This will definitely be different which does make me a little nervous.
I am 1 year into my reverse shoulder replacement surgery. I am now back to doing yoga! There are positions I can no longer do but many more positions I CAN do. Do your exercises every day!!!! Don't give up!! It was my 4th shoulder surgery and this last one was worth it!!!! Keep encouraged!!!
My gosh, Sandra! You're a poster girl for shoulders! Thank you for that uplifting comment. Like you, I'm back to yoga and some poses I can't do, but I can do sooooo many! We're grateful for what we have and don't moan and groan about what we don't! Thanks much for the words of wisdom!
I am about to have my left shoulder done 14th jan 2025, as I mention below i had the right one done in 2023. I just hope I have the same outcome as my first operation. I loved your video.
Here it is 2023 and mine took 30 minutes for the reverse Total shoulder arthroscopy. My doctor has been doing shoulders and elbows for 23 years. You are now probably feeling much better. This is my second one. Right one was in January and left in November. The first surgery was not much pain. This Left one is more uncomfortable than last time.
It appears this is a common occurrence. I also am having terrible pain in my opposite shoulder. I think it's due to over compensating for the right one. I am an avid gardener and it's planting time. I'm in trouble. N
Aren’t you the sweetest thing. I’m getting ready to see my surgeon in a couple days. Thank u for the great video on the recovery. I hope you’re doing well 🤗
Oh, you're going to do great! I've got another video showing my progress 10 months later. Watch that, too, for inspiration. Just follow your PT to a teeeeee! You'll have a great shoulder in time! I'll be thinking about you! xo ~ally
3 weeks in a sling, no pain meds., out patient, home therapy started the day after no out patient therapy, just on my own and I was playing ball in less than 6 weeks
Had a reverse shoulder replacement on July 20th this year. Surgeon is Dr. Lonergan at Steadman Hawkins in Greer, SC. Easy Peasy. Doing everything I always did in less than a month. 😊
I have surgery on Wednesday on my left shoulder. I am left handed and concerned about what I can or can’t do. You have given me hope. Thank you for sharing. Hope you are doing well.
having the same surgery within the next three weeks hopefully, hope i am as optimistic as yourself. Very helpful and instruction video. I am on high morphine dosage at the moment so hoping it manages the pain after the surgery. Thank you.
You'll do great, Christopher! Patience and commitment are keys to recovery. Thanks for letting me know that this video was helpful. I think we all can lift each other through these tough times in our lives. Sending lots of great positive energies. Keep your mind and spirit on the bright side. Life will be better!
Got my sholder replacement about a year ago and I am now working out I've had 3 total joint replacements and I am going to be getting another next year.
Watching this about 48 hrs after my reverse shoulder replacement. So far the nerve block is still holding up. Dreading the point when the block wears off. Thanks for sharing your experience. It gives me encouragement
Hi, Mark! By now, you should be feeling pretty great. Hope you've kept up w/your PT. I'm about 6 months 2 weeks out and I have about 95% ROM and strength. I'm still doing all my PT exercises on my own. Good luck, my friend! :)
@@AllysKitchen 5 + weeks out from surgery. Feeling great...never had any significant pain post surgery which was surprising. I also am doing most of my PT on my own...really no sense in going back to the PT facility once you learn to do the exercises properly. Left shoulder done and now scheduled to have the right one done in 6 more weeks. So looking forward to being able to sleep all night again...take care
@@markw.2958 OMG, Mark! You're my hero! Congratulations, my friend. That's the best news. Yes, to the PT...I'm still doing mine, too. And, I'm back to some gentle yoga. A good night's rest is the best ever...that's coming soon, my friend. Stay vigilant and, again, so very happy for you! ~ally

@@markw.2958 Hey, Mark, yes, I'm glad I could share this experience. No doubt, it can create anxiety, for sure. Yes, we live in CO part of the year, but I'm a born and bred West Virginian and South Carolinian :)
Ma'am. Thank you for sharing this. My parents, husband & son passed and pray to be admitted to rehab. My procedure is August 3, 2022. God brought you through.
Having my left done on the 6th of June. 4 procedures prior and it has to be done. I’m a former RN myself. Multiple surgeries over my life time, 4 total knees (left leg) with complications. I’m a pilot, motorcycle rider, riding mower and avid pickleball player. Looking forward to getting it done and on to rehabbing. Thanks for the In depth video. Good luck with your recovery.
@@AllysKitchen hi again. Hope you’re doin* well. I’m 9 weeks post op and have been playing pickleball 7 days in a row…. Of course not using the left arm at all, my only concern (docs also) is falling down on it. I ran my riding lawn mower the other day and it went well also. I’m straight overhead and 90 out to the side without pain. We are still a long time before being totally functional where I can start flying and riding the scooter again. Baby steps, but super happy as we speak.
I just happened upon your video after having consultation with an aragent Dr, who told Me since I was wearing a sling already that I was weak and had low pain tolerance ... I replied ReAd My file I had Spinal Fusion Surgery and handled it and Therapy after like a Champ ! I'm not scheduled yet, but I'm ready, tired of being in Pain ... Thanks again for sharing
Scrolling through surgery videos this afternoon awaiting my surgery. I see this face and think- I met her this morning when you commented on my ice machine. I am so glad you are doing well. Many Blessings. Shannon
When you said that the night before was "rough" I think it was an understatement. I could tell that was what the medical profession would say - your face reveals the agony you experienced that night and were still going through. You put on a brave face. Having gone through this myself I know pretty much exactly what it's like. I wish the medical professsion would stop with the gaslighting terms. The pain from this sugery is over the top and most people are undermedicated due to needless fears of addiction. Only one half of one percent ever become addicted. 99.5 of people never addict. Undertreated pain can cause heart attacks, strokes, etc. I'm glad you're doing better and I pray you never have to go through this again with any joint.
I'm recovering from a reverse shoulder replacement right now this is my second surgery got the reverse shoulder replacement on December 1st can't wait to fully heal
Thanks for this. I am having shoulder replacement surgery Monday. I think it is reverse surgery like yours. I can only take off 2 weeks from work. And will have to find a way to get to PT. You are an inspiration. And hope your recovery goes great 👍
Hi, Terry~wish you could have more time off, but do understand. Just be really safe and careful w/the stability of your recovering shoulder. And, PT is a must on a regular basis. Keep your spirits high. I know you're going to do well! Will be thinking of you! ~ally

Kim! Isn't it wonderful to be pain free! I'm so so happy for you! Your PT has been moving along well, I trust! Keep doing this work b/c it's the key to the long-term use!
thank for sharing. very useful info. Love from Singapore. PS I just went through a reverse shoulder surgery and I suffered quite badly. It has been 2 weeks................
Hi, Robert...you're very welcome...honesty is the best way to look at this. And, it's been 16 months, and I can honestly say that my re-engineered shoulder is amazing! My doc said that I'm in the top 2% of his patients. So, all good. PT and doing the exercises everyday has been the key! I wish you well, my friend!
Had a total reverse shoulder replacement on 1_9_24 no sleep first night, then cat napping for several days. Pain is manageable with meds.therapy is crucial, make sure you do as they say and you,all do well,I was in rehab for 3 months
I’m glad you’re feeling better. I had both shoulders replaced, and it took 3 days before I started therapy - 4 times total. No pain meds at all. (Ice packs) and the Lord’s Prayer - nothing else. I guess every Doctor is different. I’m in Florida and I feel great.
Joey! What a great recovery you had! Yes, everyone is different as is each doctor. Thank goodness for these medical advances. Makes our lives so much better!
Watched your vid. I’m as native as native gets to Vail (and boy do I miss it!). I’m scheduled for reverse shoulder replacement in a couple of weeks. I’ve had 2 failed rotator cuff surgeries and my mri shows all but my teres minor is torn, labrum obliterated, split tear in my bicep tendon, moderate to severe osteoarthritis. After skiing professionally and racing canoes, I’m a walking example of the adage “you play, you pay”! This surgery has me worried. I lost my lower leg in an accident on the same side and not sure how I’m going to pull this off…but I will get through it. Thanks for the vid! Steadman Hawkins fixed my knee some 30 years ago. 😊
God bless your soul you went through one and another wow my first one I wanted to beat up my mother I was like a sheet of plywood after the nerve block wore off and you had to do it several times my God I was in so much pain that I had to piss off the porch you're very strong person thank you for sharing I'm going in a few weeks scared to death not going to lie
Oh, gosh, Annie, you're a warrior! Yes, Steadman is world-class for sure. I hate to hear about your shoulder, but you have a spirit that will see you through this as well. Please keep me posted on your surgery/progress.
O hope you are doing well. I just had my 2nd reverse surgery on my left shoulder last April on the 14th. My first one was on my right shoulder in December of 2019. This one seem a bit harder on the pain and recovery.
Hi, Paul...gosh, both shoulders! Yes, I'm doing really well and I'm quite thankful for that. Sure hope time eases your pain. Take good care, my friend, you know the drill!
I hope you have done well. I fell the first of the month and broke both shoulders getting the total reverse shoulder replacement. It's hard when all I can do is wiggle fingers. I get my second therapy on Wednesday. My first session, even tho short and she was moving my arms, the next day it hurt so badly. Thanks for the video.
My friend just had shoulder replacement surgery and afterward is having great amounts of pain. Do you know any over the counter medicine that will help her with the pain? No injections please.
I was in the hospital and had surgery and out at home by 6 o’clock and I live an hour and a half from Saskatoon so that’s three hours travel along surgery was an hour and a half recovery and everything before I left an hour and a half crazy
I am looking at having this same surgery after a fall down a staircase where I broke my shoulder in 5 places. I need to be able to use my right arm and raise it above my head. Thanks for your video!
Hi, Carol...I'm so so sorry about your fall. I did another video showing my progress after 10 months and what I can do w/this left shoulder. I think that video will give you some additional inspiration. Sending lots of positive and loving vibes your way for a successful surgery and journey! xo ~ally
I never had anybody I was on my own. I have nobody to help me so did you get a nerve block cause they sure helped but once they were off that’s when the pain comes.
It all depends on what arm you got operate so I’m right handed and I had my right shoulder total shoulder replacement so I have to learn with my left and that’s like trying to learn Chinese when you’re English it’s difficult so it’s hard to do a lot of things with your wrong hand. I’ll tell you that takes practice plus, I did a lot of it before the surgery so I could do some things by myself because I’m on my own. My wife passed away in April so I’ve been on my own ever since so yeah once you get the hang of it, I’m gonna be able to use both hands after I’m done here but then I gotta get my left shoulder done, but I’ll be better cause at least I have my right hand to do stuff which which is my main hand
Wow so glad I watched your show as to how your surgery went..unfortunately I have NO One to help me when that day comes I will have Surgery in Two Days, I have NO one to stay with me but I’m going to have to do my best, I have my son but he’s not going to be able to stay with me overnight, he has to go to work as a firefighter he took the day off,, but thanks for giving me heads up in what to look for, your Soo fortunate that your married with having your husband help and granddaughter with you…
OH, Debra, wish I was close to you, I'd take care of you. Make sure you have your medications all listed and the exact times to take them. Make a spreadsheet b/c your head could be foggy w/pain meds and just the stress of the surgery. Check each time you administer these meds to yourself. Also, have plenty of water and snacks (healthy!) near your recovery area. Organize baskets of what you'll need. Big clothing. Nothing overhead. Your son can help a great deal. Maybe have him watch this video, too. I'll be thinking of you, and please let me know how you're doing when you're feeling better. Sending lots of love and well wishes for your healing recovery. xoxx
Most insurance company cover few days in hospital or rehab facility to get thru those initial tough days. Check into it and find a Good Church, they will be there for You. God Bless
Well, it depends upon which shoulder and hand you normally wipe with! If it's the dominate one that's affected, then ut oh you gotta learn w/the other hand a brand new skill! May take a few times to get it right. Hey, if that's the case, practice ahead of time. Like the Scout motto says, be prepared! lol!
When I had carpal tunnel surgery on my dominate hand 11 yrs. ago I was able to use the other hand. I've been practicing to prepare for shoulder surgery but I don't seem to be as agile as I was back then. 🤷
Just had my shoulder done on Thursday and it is killing me. Absolutely no info on what to do regarding movement and pt when I left the hospital. See surgeon in 2 weeks. Do I just do nothing until my appt ?
I am sure your surgeon will discuss physical therapy when he sees you. My PT started just a few days after my surgery. It was essential to getting my arm moving again.
@@AllysKitchen I go see the surgeon tmrw for my 6 week post op. I have been doing basic exercises I found on the internet so hopefully he will suggest some more physio. I’m feeling like I am behind since I can’t raise my arm over my head yet but I also have wicked arthritis so not sure if this is slowing me down. I am in Canada where all elective surgeries like this have been cancelled. Guess I was lucky to get in when I did.

I did not watch any RUclips clips about this surgery prior to my reverse shoulder surgery which will be 5 weeks ago tomorrow. My shoulder is healing fine. I go to PT 3 times a week. I have not had any pain, except healing pain, which is not terrible. My problem is for the elbow down. My pinky and ring fingers are now permanently in a curve. I cannot straighten them out unless I take my other hand and straighten them, but they go back to curved when I take my other hand away. The pain is unbelievable! It’s as if someone is taking pins and needles and sticking them into the tips of my fingers and the numbness and feeling that someone is rubbing sandpaper on my arm. It’s constant! I called my doctor, they ordered a nerve testa d that guy said my nerve is damaged, but it may heal. I am beside myself! The doctor finally prescribed Gabapentin for the pain, which helps but doesn’t eliminate the pain. I want to see a neurologist to get a second opinion. Being right handed, I cannot write, do my crafts etc. I am angry but I can see it turning to depression if my nerves are permanently damaged. Has this happened to anyone else and how long did it take for your nerve to heal?
Oh, Alice, I'm so so sorry. I can feel you frustration and pain. Maybe it will improve with time. Sometimes it takes a lot time for nerves to heal and become better functioning. Try to not let anger spin you into more things like a depression. For now, you're in the very young and beginning stages of healing. It could take months. The body is a miraculous instrument.
Hello thank you for your input dear my surgery is due on Monday, April 11 I’m a little scared but at least they insured me that that I would be able to use my arm again thank you so much take care and God bless
Hi, Cathy! Hopefully, you're fairing well after your surgery this past Monday. Every day means you're healing and getting stronger. Sending lots of love and support b/c I know your journey! xo ally
So was the thing they gave you for 84 hours a "nerve block?" or a medication like an opioid? How did you find the caregiver person that helped you for 3 days? That breathing thing - my mom had that when she had a lung problem. Not everybody who has shoulder replacement needs that, do they:?
Hi Ally. I just stumbled across your video on your shoulder replacement. I suppose my search on the subject led me to you. Are you doing completely well now with your shoulder? I have the surgery May 18. I'm terrified!!
Hi, Dee! How are you doing? You're a few weeks out from your surgery. Mine was three years ago, and I'm doing great! It's truly changed my life. Thank you for asking.
There are some people who absolutely do not have anyone at home to help so don't say you absolutely have to have this. I am alone and will have this surgery at some point soon. Prob need to stay in rehab hospital since no one at home.
I’m in the same position; faced with possibility of this surgery on my right shoulder. I live alone, as well. Gonna delay it as long as I can, but I’ve begun practicing shaving, dressing, etc. with my left hand…👍🏻
@SJCFRLT Good idea. The shoulder makes me the most nervous. But I think the practicing is the best thing we can do. For me it's a toss up which will happen first. Knee or shoulder. And before it im planning to cook meals ahead and freeze them. Last time I called meals on wheels they had a waiting list!

I cannot get my hand behind my back anymore so I am not going to have my other shoulder done. Will have to live with the pain I guess. Also, my experience was not as detailed as yours. I hope that you're healing well. I'm getting ready to have this done January 7th on my right shoulder. I'm scared to death I don't know what I'm going to do after surgery. Thanks foe this Ally- I am having my right shoulder yes I'm right handed replaced in two weeks. I'd like to know what you know about sleeping. What position do I have to be in thank you so much - Kathy
Kathy, I had rotator cuff surgery (subscapularis full tendon repair) 6 months ago on my right (dominant) shoulder which was the result of a pedestrian/vehicular accident. I borrowed a comfortable recliner from my sister. It was a lifesaver. About 7 weeks after surgery I gave the recliner back to my sister and moved back into the bed and I haven’t looked back. Best of luck!
@@janetgill3242 Thanks for your help Will I be able to sleep on my side? Or do I have to sleep sort of sitting up? Did you sleep in the recliner? Many thanks
@@kathyadelsheim6197I used a recliner for about 7 weeks since it made getting in and out easier with the sling and attached abduction pillow but it’s quite possible that you would do fine in a normal bed with a lot of pillows propping up your affected arm and shoulder. I absolutely was able to sleep on my left side in the recliner as it was a fairly large recliner. You should be able to do that in a regular bed also but maybe not right away. You’ll find a position that makes you most comfortable. The sling keeps your shoulder stable in one position. I can sleep on my right shoulder today but even though I am 6 months out from surgery I could do that after 3 months. It gets better and easier every day. It hasn’t been easy but the eventual results will be worth it. I was in a pedestrian/vehicular accident and I probably shouldn’t have survived. I fractured my hip in two places and had a full tear in my subscapularis rotator cuff tendon. Today I am doing much better. Best wishes on your coming surgery and healing. Just take it one day at a time and you will be fine.
I’m so freaking out about this surgery… I just had a total knee replacement 2 yrs ago….. the last thing I want is another surgery… I’m extremely happy for you, but I am really considering living with the pain rather than another surgery
Joanne, I totally get it and understand. I avoided this surgery for years. In retrospect, I should have done it much sooner. And, boy, am I glad I finally did. I have my quality of life restored. In the end, it's an individual choice.
Thank you for a nice video really comfortable watching you I already had it done in 2015 unfortunately I fell on it it was totally reconstructed and that was very painful but now I have to go next month in November possibly December they're making all the arrangements I have to go for a full reversed replacement like you have and thank you cuz the first one really was painful three tendons and a bicep muscle they gave me and the ball my shoulder was totally ripped in half I was hit by a car dragged 400 ft and I kept comparing the accident to the shoulder repair I still don't know that his day which one was worse but thank you again
OH, gosh, Gary, I'm so sorry you have to redo this, but it will be worth the investment of time, energy and therapy to be out of pain and have a better quality of life. You're ready to make the shift it sounds like, and know somewhat about what lies ahead. I wish for you all the good fortune and health, my friend.
Hi, Rosanne...I can surely identify w/your concerns and angst. I had that too. For almost 10 years. All I can say is that you need to do your research, have an excellent physician/surgeon team and follow the rehab schedule. If you haven't watched my video I did, post 10 months surgery, this might be helpful. As most everyone will share the follow-up care, PT, etc. is the key to regaining your shoulder and using it. Hope this helps!
Hi. I had my right shoulder done 7 months ago and just got my left one done last week . I wish I had done this earlier because of the great pain I was going through. The time for healing will go by faster than you think. The most important thing to do is your rehab exercises which will make a real big difference in your healing. Just follow up with your doctor visits and it will be so much better for you.Good luck!
I have had total reverse replacements on both shoulders. The first was Nov 2020 and my other shoulder was replaced a week ago today.(Oct 20, 2021). I guess I am lucky. I have had zero pain with either surgery and no pain medicine afterwards. I wore my sling only for the first 2 days with each surgery. I done my own physical therapy with the first replacement and also with my second. I have severe Rheumatoid Arthritis (24 yrs now) and have also had both knees and one hip replaced. My other hip replacement is scheduled for this December. I have done my own PT for these other surgeries also.
Hey how's going, 😏 my partner is having Right shoulder Surgery, I need to ask few questions, my first question is on your first day of how many hour, okay working with male
HI, Gail, I'm not sure I understand your question. On my first few days, all I did was really rest and sleep and take my meds on a strict schedule. I did get up and go to PT. It was required. And, it actually felt really good knowing my therapist knew what she was doing.
You will do marvelously. I'm about 10 months out and it's perfect. Have at least 95% ROM and strength. The key is vigilance w/the PT. I'll be thinking about you. Let me know how you're doing. Be safe, luv. ~ally

Are you doing well now? Can you feel your fingers? Can you hand sew or other things like crafts or painting? How about cleaning your home? Thanks.....Carolyn
Hi, Carolyn! Thank you for asking. I'm like 99% now. It's truly a miracle. I credit it to an amazing surgeon/team, following through on all my PT and follow up, eating well, good food (it is healing as we know). I can do just about anything and, actually, my left arm/shoulder are about as strong as my right (good shoulder) It's been about 10 months now. Thanks for asking! Are you considering this surgery? Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays ~ally

I hope you’re doing ok now. ❤
@@NikkiGregoryThank you. Both my wife and I are very unwell with a flu like virus that seems to be ver hard to get rid of, at the moment my doctors surgery is not giving out appointments as this virus is effecting a great many people.
I sure hope things have improved for you. YOu've been through quite a lot.

You're doing great! I'm now 4 years out and it's like a distant memory. Good info!
Thank you for making this video. I'm getting ready for the reverse shoulder surgery and needed to hear your review. Helps settle my nerves. ❤️
Oh, gosh, Marsha, I KNOW those nerves you're experiencing. And, thank you. I wanted to get the real feel of it while I was just recovering. You're gonna do great! xo ally

@@careywilliamson4709 Thinking about you!
Thanks for this video. I have mine the end of this January!
Goodness, you're a warrior!
Yes, we tend to favor the good whatever.
Aren’t you the sweetest thing. I’m getting ready to see my surgeon in a couple days. Thank u for the great video on the recovery. I hope you’re doing well 🤗

Hi, Mark! By now, you should be feeling pretty great. Hope you've kept up w/your PT. I'm about 6 months 2 weeks out and I have about 95% ROM and strength. I'm still doing all my PT exercises on my own. Good luck, my friend! :)

Scrolling through surgery videos this afternoon awaiting my surgery. I see this face and think- I met her this morning when you commented on my ice machine. I am so glad you are doing well. Many Blessings. Shannon
Oh, gosh, small world! How are you doing?
Gosh, I wouldn't wish this on anyone. But, now my quality of life is superb. Worth the pain, setback, rehab and all.

I found that each day I was a tad bit better and after a few months, it was certainly much more manageable. But, I continue to do my PT exercises.

It all depends on what arm you got operate so I’m right handed and I had my right shoulder total shoulder replacement so I have to learn with my left and that’s like trying to learn Chinese when you’re English it’s difficult so it’s hard to do a lot of things with your wrong hand. Sending lots of love and well wishes for your healing recovery. xoxx

Not trying to be tmi but when you go to the bathroom can you wipe?
Well, it depends upon which shoulder and hand you normally wipe with! If it's the dominate one that's affected, then ut oh you gotta learn w/the other hand a brand new skill! May take a few times to get it right. Hey, if that's the case, practice ahead of time. Like the Scout motto says, be prepared! lol!

How many days the doctor gives for sick leave from work ?
I was retired so no problems w/sick leave.
Yes, stay on rehab where you have help.
I'm looking at the same surgery and also alone. I'm trying calming myself. Praying.
@@plantlady3355 You'll do great. Prepare yourself w/planning and details. It's been 4 years for me and I'm ever so grateful to be pain free. Sending great vibes to you!
thank you for all your advice, I had the operation on the 1st June 2023. cant believe how much better it is already. I am now driving and although retired I am back in my workshop. still have physio but I think anther couple of sessions and I will be finished with it. I can wash my hair lift my arm above my head pain free. Finished with the morphine the day after the operation such was the relief in pain. I think it was a mistake to just finish but hey everything is fine. Once again for your frank video.
Goodness, Christopher! I'm so happy for you! You came through like a champ! Isn't it great to be pain free and doing what you love again! I'm smiling now just reveling in your healing!
should have read 1st june 2022..lol
@@christopherfothergil Oh, I figured that!
What kind of splint are you using? Looking at possibly needing this surgery and need a good one.
It was given to me by my surgeonl
I cannot get my hand behind my back anymore so I am not going to have my other shoulder done. Will have to live with the pain I guess. Also, my experience was not as detailed as yours. Two days in hospital, no fancy sling, no PT. My recovery included many scarey painful setbacks. I am finally in a good place after two years. I'm in Canada.
OH, I'm so so sorry to hear that, Gaby. My PT was critical. I've written more on this progress if you care to read. It's good to hear that you're in a good place now. Take good care, my friend! allyskitchen.com/?s=shoulder+surgery
@@AllysKitchen I read your "one arm" post. You don't mention putting socks on one handed. That's a real comedy show! Take care. : )
@@gabydobbie358 Oh, for sure, there's lots of laughs during this process as we know1
I'm terrified to have my I proving rotator cuff surgery. You helped me. Gave me hope. XO
Mark, you'll do great, my friend. A much better lifestyle pain free. Follow doc and PT orders!
Get better. I am going for rotator cuff surgery end of month. Not looking forward to it.
You'll do great, Frederick! Life will be much better. Follow your PT religiously!
Thanks for the video , i live alone , I went to see the doctor, it seems that I am going to have reverse shoulder replacement , i have had 7 surgeries on my right shoulder including a partial shoulder replacement due to multiple fractures of the humerus and necrosis. Now I am going to have a reverse shoulder replacement since it has always hurt a lot, I am thinking about it because it scares me since my 7 previous surgeries have been very painful , but i think i'm going to make the decision
Oh, I know you're very concerned. But, I'm sure you have excellent doctors. Wishing you lots of good results as you progress along this journey.
That breathing device is an spirometer and it is used to help get the Anesthesia out of the lungs in surgery recovery .
Yes, and it helps!
Keep up your positive thinking and you are a winner already
Awhhhhh, thanks so much. Positivity really helps the healing!
Thanks for the video iam 36 and I am going to have 3rd total joint replacement.
Hi, Nick, oh gosh, you've been through it, my friend. Stay positive and just know that better days are ahead!
I hope that you're healing well. I'm getting ready to have this done January 7th on my right shoulder. I'm scared to death I don't know what I'm going to do after surgery. I'm missing both of my legs. I was hurt as a baby in a car train accident. And I have completely the ruptured my rotator cuff Beyond repair so lucky me gets I shoulder replace with the reverse replacement on January 7th. I hope I'm doing as well after surgery is you look like you're doing. I pray you recover fully in Jesus name.
Yes, healing exceptionally well. And, you will too. Just follow your doctor's orders. Be vigilant w/your PT and recovery. Be positive and know that there's light at the end of the tunnel! :)
@@AllysKitchen thank you..... I don't have a choice I have to have it done my shoulders not even in socket right now. So it's pretty uncomfortable transferring stuff not having legs. I just hope it after this surgery I'm going to be able to somehow transfer with just one arm. I'm seeing some specialized therapist tomorrow you help me figure out a way to transfer after the surgery without hurting the work that's been done. It's a big surgery not missing legs. But even bigger missing your legs. I got these arms I have to depend on. Thank you for your video. Helps put me at ease a little bit.
@@judo-drummerboy-tapout You sound like you're a fierce warrior! I know it must be really painful at times and always that nagging throb/hurt. Your therapist will show you the correct way to use your arm w/o harming anything. Just don't try to be superman and do too much. I think that was the hardest for me b/c when I felt a tad bit better, I would do way too much and set myself back days. Hard headed but I learned. Yes, you have a huge challenge and I can't even fathom that, but your spirit sounds strong and that's a lot of the battle to recovery. Working on your shoulder and getting that arm strength and ROM back will give you a new lease on life. Just be patient. And, yes, prayers are powerful healers, my friend. Be well ~ally
Interesting! I had rotator cuff surgery in June 2021 which was the result of a pedestrian / automobile accident. I wasn’t allowed to even move my right dominant hand while I was wearing the sling so I’m jealous. I hope the surgery was a success!
I should mention that my hand was inside the sleeve so except for a few twisty turns to relieve cramping I couldn’t move it.
Oh, gosh, Janet, yes, it's been super successful. My left shoulder is even better than my right (which wasn't operated on). Wishing you all the best!
Im so nervous I have my standard shoulder replacement by Kaiser hopefully April 4 so how many days do u think Ill meed the care giver the doctor says Im a young case at 43
I hope you've done well! Let me know! Here are a few posts I've written, too. allyskitchen.com/?s=shoulder
How are you feeling now? I wore mind for 4 weeks
I'm doing great! It's been 4 years and all that pain is like a distant memory. My sling came off after about 2 weeks per surgeon direct. Hope you're doing well, Lisa!! ally
I'm feeling great. I've done a couple of other follow-up videos, too. I'm not 4+ years and I'd never know I had such a shoulder debacle. Praise the Lord!
Really helpful
Thank you!
This next surgery, the reversal, will be my third. I have to admit, I am not looking forward to it. Such a long recovery. However, my quality of life has diminished considerable and it is necessary. Haven't picked up a golf club in two years! Going to see my surgeon on the 14th to schedule. Yikes!
Oh, gosh, Pam, I know what you mean. I was at that very point, too, where my quality of life was greatly and chronically compromised. Hopefully, your consult went well. Just thing, you're going to be golfing again sooner than later and it'll be worth the investment of time energy healing and PT! Sending lots of warm support and hugs!

@@janetgill3242
Thanks for your help
Will I be able to sleep on my side?
@@kathyadelsheim6197the recliner I used took me back almost like a bed. I did not sleep sitting up.

Yes, I was in one night.

There is a 3 to 6 month recovery. I am very afraid of having this.
@@anti-social6368 Very great comment! Thanks so much. Words of wisdom and encouragement like yours helps a lot of folks! Thank you!
Mam after one month of my surgery I am having pain plz guide me 🙏🏻
OH, gosh, Kulwant, I'm not a doctor. Please consult your physician and physical therapist.
Why did your 10 months post surgery video say the surgery was on your right shoulder but it clearly was on your left?
That's just an error. It was my left shoulder!
