Always have preferred a strand of pearls to a gold chain. I have never seen a Pearl as beautiful as this. Where do they fall on the expense curve? Thank you for keeping the oyster alive.
Pearls aren't rare anymore since a couple decades, just like diamonds. So they could be from pennies to thousands of dollars, just depends on what the big sellers say they are worth. And if they don't make those, them they'll say it's worth nothing.
I live in Florida near some seriously rich oyster beds and I might be the only one who knows about it. There is a nearly inaccessible part of the harbor near me that is rich in bivalve fauna. Most bivalves can produce a pearl. Species that have a mother of pearl finish tend to produce the nicest ones. One such species is not terribly common to our area but is locally abundant in that muddy spot. So knowing something about mollusks having been a shell collector for almost 60 years I decided to check out the oysters. The first sixty didn't have any pearls but then I found a nice 8 mm one. I use a similar technique that does not harm the animal because I want it to produce more pearls. So yes my reasons are more selfish than altruistic but the end result is the same. I don't get into trouble because I'm not harvesting the animal, just the pearl. Our state doesn't have bag limits on pearls. these are natural and not seeded pearls. I've been doing this for almost ten years since I discovered the oyster colony. Also the city put up a fence to limit access from land but I have a kayak and you can access any shoreline that is not restricted and this isn't. so far I have accumulated 146 naturally occurring fresh water pearls. I keep them in an old canning jar for now. When I hit retirement age in a few years I'm going to be sorting them by size and color and making jewelry to sell on eBay. I used to work for Tiffany & Co. so I know a little about how to make jewelry including with pearls. I have also harvested hundreds of naturally deceased oyster shells because the mother of pearl in them is also of value. You can strip down the outside of the shell until you have nothing but mother of pearl on both sides. I'm not going to divulge the technique but there is a way to flatten the material and make flat things from the mother of pearl. I'm better at making things out of wood so I will be making mother of pearl jewelry boxes cementing the mother of pearl onto hardwood boxes, drawers, lids etc. The hardwood is recycled from old pallets. You'd be shocked at how much beautiful wood ends up as pallets. I also have this really nice piece of burl driftwood from the last hurricane. I'm going to do a mother of pearl inlay with that.
I really enjoyed reading your comment. Truly interesting. I would love to buy a wooden box and a piece of jewellery when it is time for you. Good on you ❤

One good thing about the harvesting of this pearl is that the clam, or oyster, gets to live to make more unusual pearls. I once had a very small, but significant pearl come from a Long Island Sound steamed mussel, I was eating at a local restaurant. Interestingly, it was a yellow color. I watched several videos where an Asian woman was gathering oysters along a lakeside as well as near the ocean. She simply massacred all of them by splitting them open and throwing the oysters back in after she took the pearls out. It was very dreadful. This is the reason why I like this method much better. @@HughWoo I mean that a lot of the pearl extraction I have seen online have pearls that are perfect every time and you can even see the bags from stores in the back ground. The color has nothing to do with it I am more just saying that most of them are very clearly faked. Like the pearls aren’t from the actual oyster they are just put in there for the video
I'm really glad to understand that the oyster lived. Also the beauty of it's gift from God is so beautiful, those words really don't justify the pearl.
it's a fucking nacre covered nucleus from an animal that exists without any basic cognitive function forced into being attached to a rope for 20 years, it's about as far from a gift from god as you can get, nothing but human skill and hard work
I may destroy your world here, but the pearl isn't its "gift from God", the way pearl creation works is that when a grain of sand or something a teensy tiny bit bigger is introduced in the oyster, it sees it as a threat and starts encapsulating it in the same material its shell is made out of. Over time the encapsulation grows larger and the people in the video extract the oyster from the water and pry it open to get the pearl out, and then they put another grain of sand in to get another pearl, so actually, the oysters are just being farmed, just like your average store chicken.
FYI: these are not wild pearls. They are artificially grown with foreign materials. They’re just ‘from Tahiti’. It’s actually a very predatory practice.
I love that they are gentle in handling the oyster's and don't kill them. I think this is brilliant to keep them alive. There is one of these where the woman cuts the oyster all up to get the pearl.

actually he harmed them alot. this still hurts/kills the oyster most of the time.
I watched several videos where an Asian woman was gathering oysters along a lakeside as well as near the ocean. She simply massacred all of them by splitting them open and throwing the oysters back in after she took the pearls out. It was very dreadful. This is the reason why I like this method much better. I also want to point out that most creatures feel some sort of pain...when they grow hungry or lose a baby or a member of their group.
@@kitkatchomper69 the best is still not to fall in love with pearls. Imagine others doing surgery on us just to extract gallbladder stones, which they think it's beautiful?? It's LOL why humans fall in love with "things" that have no practical uses..... :(
Imagine finding one of those naturally instead these farmed ones, very rare when not intentionally created!
Thank you for doing this in a way that keeps the oysters alive. 💗💗💗
🎉❤🎉❤ Awesome all around.
The way my mouth dropped !
Ultimate PokeBall
The fact he didn't kill the oyster is pretty cool. Never knew u could do that but much respect. No point in killing it if ur not gonna eat it
Beautiful… and well done not harming the oyster
I am giggling because this is about what the dentist had to do to me to get me to open my mouth!!!
I do appreciate the delicacy in which you remove
The pearl…..
The empath in me tho has an aching jaw 😅
Ahaha! I thought so too!
Rooting for the oyster due to the visceral, forced intrusion which many of us took quite personally 😔
I have goosebumps. The most beautiful pearl I've ever seen! I want it!
So after they extract the pearl, they can keep going ? That’s awesome! 👏
I love seeing true pearl extractions a lot of them online are fake
What do you mean fake? As in farmed and not natural? You can farm just about any color pearl you can imagine these days.
@@Disbebh05 ive seen a video where this one girl finds like 10 pearls from a single oyster. everyone in the comments knew it was fake lol
Какие на... брильянты. Вот настоящее чудо!
Absolutely Stunning! Glad they're so gentle with the oyster!
this is a nice way of collecting oyster pearls. The oyster still gets to live and human still gets a nice shiny.
Sounds like that oyster in the background is getting the absolute dog shit beaten out of it 😂
Clam
@@HughWoo 🤣😂
Nothing man invents can out do mother nature. Beautiful
Nature didn't create anything.
Technically the pearl extracted was made with human intervention.
Wow Gods creation. Amazing
She says from the safety of her toilet in her home on her phone over the internet all invented by man
@@tangoseal1Yes, it does.
Stunning and mesmerizing
I can't unhear the fact that putting the thing that opens the oyster sounds like an excited dog.
This reminds me of when I go to the gynecologist 😂😂😂 women Will know what I’m talking about 😂😂
Imagine if aliens do this to us during abductions
WOW! That's gorgeous
I love that they are gentle in handling the oyster's and don't kill them. I think this is brilliant to keep them alive. There is one of these where the woman cuts the oyster all up to get the pearl.
ох уж эти сказочки, ох уж эти сказочники ))
That's got to be a fun job
