Pianist: Lang Lang
Piece: Etude Op. 10 No. 3 - Tristesse
Composer: Frederic Chopin
The fact is ….. he’s super talented. He may be a little eccentric, but that’s ok. He’s a musician. I actually met him years ago when he performed the Rach 2. It was perfect.
Amaizing
I’m not a fan of plenty of his interpretations, but to call him unskilled or bad is pushing it. He’s an amazing musician, just divisive. And even I will hear an interpretation of his that makes me just stop and listen.
¿What do you consider "eccentric"?
This is an etude on how not to cry from the beautiful melody.
Weird faces? You mean expressions of pure joy. This man is truly a master, and fantastic to watch. You should listen to him more often.
No it's making the music all about him by making those faces. They interfere with the music. The fact that where talking about it,shows us that.
@@aaronruss6331 you dumb bro? Just use your ears
@@AvarFPS whats you're point? People don't just use their ears,If they have normal hearing abilities they just hear naturally without thinking about it,you can't just turn them on or off.
Fail trying to be smart unfortunately.
@@aaronruss6331 I meant just listen to the music stop looking at his face lol I know your IQ isnt high if you dont believe me take an assessment

There is NO other person in the world playing piano like Lang Lang! He is genious! If you don't believe, watch him teaching a student from a choosen academy...
Beethoven:" entschuldigen, was sagst du?,ich bin taub"
That is definitely not true. There are many pianist that play with the same clarity. There is no one that can play like Lang lang but he isn't the best he's just different.
My man, that just means you haven't heard another pianist in your life.
@@jonathanqi7606 exactly
Lang Lang’s tristesse is my favorite, the middle section is so aggressive, i love it
love lang❤
As a pianist, I really admire his voicing and the complete absence of tension in his hands. I wish I could achieve that!
When you play a piece and got so many things in your head, it’s just impossible to play correctly. But when you empty your mind and focus on images of what the piece is trying to tell, you begin to move your body and expressions just appeared out of nowhere as you see Lang Lang here..
So, listen the same piece played by many maestros and you can finally distinguish the subtleness of each composition
Mozart K545 #15 2nd Movement, played by Lang Lang or Uchiko Mitsuda has very different approach and yet that what makes these Maestros great players❤
Full control expression face ❤ wonderful Lang
I got to do a workshop with him and his seriously a exceptional artist
Lang lang did this piece outstanding well.
Beautiful music
beautiful
I love Langlang
Everybody that understands something about classical music knows lang lang is a truly special artist ❤
all the notes connected
Grandiose !!
Fantastic 😎
shallow interpretation. the music is beautiful because Chopin composed it, not because he plays it.
Indeed!
Not everyone who plays Chopin sounds beautiful
i love his face too❤
He’s pretty incredible!
If you don't like his faces, please close your eyes and just listen.
Then what happens if I don’t like what I hear ?

this interpretation of Tchaikovsky's piano concerto no.1 by Lang Lang is the best one I have heard. anytime someone says he's just a show man and not a good pianist just show them this performance.
Absolute best 😊
what stands out in the performance exactly?
Giles owns that piece.
@@glenngouldification no, it's in public domain
When I was younger, I used to internally ridicule anyone who made all these weird faces while playing. When I really got into playing how I feel rather than just playing the notes, I truly understood. Sometimes I have tears running down my cheeks or I’m happy as hell and it really transforms the sound/feeling of the piece. I rarely play the same piece the same way because I don’t feel exactly the same way each time.
Amazing talent. He can make faces anything he wants. Stil amazing.
All artists when making music have their own facial expressions 😂
Oh DO they now? Amazing how a mere 10-word statement could contain a ton of bullshit!
Well, the gestures are one thing... the cheesy, sentimental playing is the main one (for me, at least). However, lots of people seem to enjoy it -- so no need to get judgemental or snobbish about it! Who pleases is right :)
Beautiful 💖
If I shut my eyes, I can really enjoy his playing…
Isn’t that was music is?
I’ve been saying this for YEARS about this very performance!
It’s so dumb that he gets hated on he is a spectacular musician and the people that are hating on him are not even close to his level. I’m even going to see him perform in October.
I've known this piece for decades, but this performance but brought tears to my eyes. A genius.
After studying ~20 performances of Opus 10/3 (all of which were excellent) I settled on this one by Lang Lang as being “otherworldly” for all the reasons you mention. Regarding tempo, you’re right: his choices are “bold”- but likely very deliberate -because he gives himself someplace to go in the middle section! Thanks so much!
Удивительно чувствительный этот пианист... Прекрасно ведёт каждую фразу.... Тончайшим... Хитрым образом.... Молодец... Яркая личность.... Прекрасен....
Too slow and... plastic? Listen to Pollini and you understand what i mean. He's just on another level for me
I am not a Lang Lang hater btw!
Agree, rubato should be controlled or the piece loses its pulse. Rubinstein and Richter could control their rubato with Chopin. They are on another level than this.
Che meraviglia
Without knowing it, I just stopped what I was doing, stopped chewing the food in my mouth, and forgot what I was doing (rushing to class) when I heard this beautiful moment. An artist puts themselves in the moment when they express. Just like how we make faces when we express ourselves in conversation. Lang Lang expresses through music. The music wouldn't be what it is without it.
I think of spirited away when I hear his music
Nadie como Chopin sabe interpretar sentimientos melancólicos del Alma y nos dice lo desgraciado que se sentía...
do you guys know that he may express better when he gesticulates with his face and movement to express everything, it really helps him and i do that too without realising it
A este bello estudio se le puso letra en un bolero llamado "Divina Ilusión ".
Homenaje a Chopin.
Gratulacje dla artysty który rozumie muzykę Chopina
This is lovely.

MARAVILHOSO MEU ÍDOLO 💝
Amo está música.Vai fundo na minha alma.❤❤❤❤❤❤
perfekt
Regarding the tempo, Mr. Chopin essentially guaranteed an eternity of debate by changing the tempo marking from “fast (lively), but not too fast” to “slow, but not too slow”, yet retaining a metronome marking that most agree is hurried. I choose to believe that, in his wisdom, Mr. Chopin was telling the “rubato vigilantes” to settle down, have a seat, and enjoy the music. There are plenty of other pieces for “serious musicians” to exert their police powers!
Rubato is disqusting in this version
That melody had so much different tones of sweetness. He does play for show sometimes but we can't deny that he's a great pianist that can take music seriously
He is what in drama termed called melodramstic, some hate it some like it
Desejo assistir Lano RUclipsng Lan ao piano c/ Andrea Bocelli

Актёр ! Как только не играют бедного Шопена !
Obviously Lang Lang is a technically excellent pianist. No doubt about that. But even in this piece, he has a tendency to overplay or over exaggerate too much and in too many places. For some pieces this works better than others, but he misses the subtleties of some more complex pieces. Sometimes less is more, but only sometimes, and many times more is less. Elegance is finding that balance. It’s an art.
lots of casual racism in these haters as well 😅
Racism?? What??
@@MalabarTheGreat racism.
That’s true, Lang Lang is a musician and not an entertainer

A good heartfelt performance...and a popular performer a general layman will ascribe this...the rubato employed does go over the top for those serious musicians who know the composition...affecting pulse and melody line for those perfectionists..by comparison.
Lang Lang... a pianist?! Wow! I thought he was a commercial brand!
[Edit] To be fair, it's clear that publishing a Disney album is a massive marketing strategy $$$. Horowitz would have never done something like that, if he was living nowadays. I mean, he even got really angry when RCA proposed him to record Gershwin's "Rapsody in Blue"...
Problem is you can not assume Horowitz will do it or not if he live nowadays, no one can predict others future and know their mind.
You are funny! 😅You know everything
@@carolqiu9586, at the time, Gershwin’s music was the equivalent of nowadays Disney music. Anyways, assuming that Horowitz would have lived nowadays, he still wouldn’t have done that: seriousness does not age. He might have been a funny and lovely man, but he was very serious, almost strict, about his music…
@@MaScalo4508 Thank you for sharing your opinion. I respectfully disagree. I believe that musical tastes and preferences are subjective, and what might be considered 'serious' by one person may not be so for another. Additionally, musical styles and trends change over time, and it's possible that Horowitz may have adapted and incorporated elements of contemporary music into his performances. Ultimately, the beauty of art is in its diversity and the freedom of interpretation.
@@legolaslee2098, extracurricular culture is not comedy…
'Weird faces', or maybe just something called emotion? 😂
He is talented beyond measure. You know he actually FEELS the notes, tempo, rhythm. Maybe he doesn't act like others, but he is superior to almost all. Watch how Yo Yo Ma gets into his music, same genius. Such a pleasure to hear.
He should be encouraged to play much much more Disney and far less music 👍🏻
He is truly a master of Disney ! Not much else.
@@glenngouldification based on what ?
Try something at home: make 'fake' facial expressions whilst you play something. You sympathise with the music more suprisingly
Al principio no sabía si estaba sentado en el baño o tocando el piano 🤔
Lang Lang es un virtuoso.

Who the hell says that about Lang lang???
The Chaplin piece....
🇵🇱👍
Too slow. And you should never sentimentalize Chopin when you play him, it is said by the top players.
Sublime. Quite sublime. (And I normally think Romanticism is emotional self-indulgence with an intellectual hat on!)
Too much unnecessary itching interpretation, too slow, too rubato, not clean pedaling to convey the emotion. With these you will notice that the poetry of the piece has become boring and dead. We see a problem like this in Ravel's Pavane for dead princess. Most people plays to these types of pieces very slowly and If they play in an effort to be impressive, a "dead" piece comes out, as Ravel puts it. Please listen to this piece by Alfred Cortot. You will understand the difference.
Otherwise this interpretation is really mediocre for Chopin.
Zu affektiert. Ich kann da nicht hinsehen und höre da auch nichts raus. Da finde ich Horowitz, Lipatti und Fischer tausendmal authentischer!
WHY is this sooo slow
distracts from the beauty of the music
close your eyes
Puro Show!!!!
???
The caption is propaganda, and hate is it's content. Lang Lang is loved worldwide. And is a once in a generation virtuoso pianist.
Spinner
I disagree
Ridiculous, over-the-top, unnecessary. That trifecta pretty much sums up this sideshow.
Ni un brillo.Todo el mérito musical es para Chopin.
랑랑 ~~♡♡
Overall I like Lang Lang, he does a lot of things as party tricks *insert orange Chopin* and.. becomes an actor when playing the rach 3 cadenza! (Which I didn't like I didn't think it was a good performance so there is that) but again overall he makes good music, not the very best but still good, this is really pretty. I feel it is a bit of a weird treatment to give to Chopin, my teacher would've probably called it too sentimental which I might agree with but it is his interpretational choice!
He is a musician, but also an entertainer.
Why does he play the slow movements so slow. Come Lan lang. It's gross
does he know jesus. ?
He is a good pianist and at the same time a clown with unnecessary movements
feelings aren't unnecessary
Just fyi for the haters here, this performance was an encore piece after playing with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Every single person in the orchestra (arguably the best musicians and maestros in the world) and audiences showed their love and gratitude after the performance.
If you guys really think he knows nothing about music, think for one sec why the Berlin Phil will choose to play with him so often instead of you, you guys are also good “keyboard” players too!
Que desagradable!
,朗朗这一点我佩服,我一直对Horowitz 非常不错欣赏,他死看着键盘一直到最后一曲连天堂也不看一眼👻👻👻👻👻
