  • We own the greenlee hydraulic knockout set and have it on another job site, holesaws are loud and messy so we decided to pull the trigger on the Milwaukee knockout set and we just have to say wow!
    Milwaukee did a great job with execution of this knockout set from packaging to actually knocking out a hole. It made things so much faster to knock out a panel hole. One thing that we would like to see come with the set is a step bit or a one size step bit but a dull drill bit will get your hole started as well.
    In order to use the larger dies you will need to knockout to the 1/2" knockout size. Setup was easy and it came with a battery and charger. This knockout set is really an easy one person operation compared to a hydraulic knockout set where you have to hold the pump to screw the cup and cutter on then you can cut your hole.
    I can say it seems faster to use and would recommend it for anyone on the fence about getting this set.

    I wish Milwaukee would make an M12 version of this that would only do 1/2”, 3/4” & 1”, for us light duty service techs.

      That would be nice. It’d be a nice set to keep in the service trucks and not too big to carry around.

    For anyone wondering the cross hatch is for keeping the punch centered on the original mark that disappeared when the first hole was made.

      @@SparkyBuilt The Milwaukee 10-ton is slower than the Milwaukee 6-ton version but even so, the 10-ton is still a lot faster than a traditional hydraulic set all while being less cumbersome. I've been using my 10-ton a lot these last two weeks doing multiple 2", 3" & 4" knockouts is heavy gauge stainless steel cabinets. It's made this task a breeze.

      @@SparkyBuilt I do a lot of data centers & you're not allowed to make dust & they especially hate metal filings flying all over the place. So I do my pilot hole to fit the 1/4" draw stud with a vac attachment then knock it out to 1/2" to fit the larger draw studs. Zero metal filings and clean-cut precise holes every time. With it being in occupied office spaces noise levels are also a thing so trying to make those holes with a hole saw would be a no-no since that is a constant noise whereas the knockout is super quick & quieter.

      When we drill we actually hold a piece of cardboard in the panel, that's a pretty good idea with the towel. We love the knockout set, especially for large holes.

      Definitely would be cool if it came with a bit. We keep a little 3 step bit in ours that works great, but I agree, we’ve bought sets for less that came with a bit. Wouldn’t trade this knockout for a manual any day though

    Me again, So when are you going to upload the hole saw Vs knockout video? Make sure you time it as well, And use the spring loaded punch for guide drilling for the hole saws, And maybe for the larger hole saws use some oil for the friction, And make sure to let the hole saws breath and cool down as you cut the hole, The metal shaving is to be expected so don't make a big fuzz about it how is not a clean cut, And continue with a connector install to finish to a clean finish cut, I'm Subscribed so I can be notify when you up load the video. Thanks.

    What size metal bit do you drill for 1/2"? For a 2" hole do you have to knockout a 1/2" hole first or can you drill a hole for the 2" stud?

    • @SparkyBuilt
      @SparkyBuilt  2 года назад

      I believe we use a 7/16” bit for a 1/2” knockout. You would need a 7/8” hole for the 2” knockout. We keep a step bit in the case but depending how many holes we’re knocking out we knock out 1/2” first. It goes by quick with the quick attach stud.

    • @djaztec97
      @djaztec97 2 года назад

      @@SparkyBuilt Interesting. For the 2" knockout, I thought that the stud was 3/4"?

    • @SparkyBuilt
      @SparkyBuilt  2 года назад

      It is a 3/4” stud correct. But like any knockout it squeezes down on the metal and makes removing the knockout more difficult if you don’t oversized the hole a little.

    • @SparkyBuilt

      Knockouts tend to leave a cleaner end product. Plus, how many holes do you get out of a hole saw? I’ll have 1000s out of this and it will still work fine. One small step bit gets me a hole anywhere from 1/2”-4”. Lots of reasons to use a knockout. They are expensive but if you’re a company tracking labor and looking at partially used hole saw kits everywhere this makes 100% sense.
