FRONT PORCH PONDS- Licking,Mo.
thank you for chisel action- great camera angles 🌻
Howdy Darlene- using a really sharp chisel is a pleasure. My wife did the different camera angels. Thank you for watching the video. God bless you
There's something about using those paring chisels which is hypnotic in it's own way...well, a number of hand tooling is like that for me, namely the spoke shave, draw knife and carving. Using certain hand tools- you just take a step back in time....and get into this meditative state.
It sure is a pleasure watching you work through the various processes. I've learned a number of things, few of which aren't even directly related to the processing of the wood itself. Just spending time around seasoned folk is wonderful and one is able to pickup on valuable skills, tidbits and measures. Thank you sir for taking the time to share your knowledge with us. 😊 By the way, that's one nice chisel you've got there...those babies aren't cheap. 😅
"Draw a circle around him, put him in a pen so he don't run off" --- 🤣🤣🤣🤣 That's hilarious...first time I've heard that one. NICE. 🤣
Howdy Chris- I wholeheartedly agree with you about using the old tools. It is quiet and peaceful when using them. I enjoy the soft sound of a really sharp spoke shave or hand plane. I remember years ago working with some friends and everyone was hewing their respective logs with some soft bluegrass music playing and you could hear the ring of each broad axe. That was a wonderful moment. Hope you are having a great weekend. God bless you

New subscriber. Bobblehead Homestead sent me. Great channel you have here. Can't wait to check out some more of your videos.
It's riveting to watch you and your skilled hands at work. What happened to that thumbnail?
I was out in the garage to see what tools his brothers left in the big toolbox since it warmed up to 50F, and I think one of them is a chainsaw file in a small metal frame? His brothers didn't think I needed tools even though I have a house. (roll eyes). No chainsaws left either but I don't have a wood stove now. The finish on that is so smooth, it gave me satisfaction to watch a man that knows what he's doing.
karen4you Howdy Karen- Thank you for watching the video and for your kind words. I think you probably have a chainsaw filing guide like l use. As for the thumb nail.......... wellll, it was where it not oughta be lol. God bless you, lady
Love the way you take your time and get it just right, thats the mark of a true craftsman. Thank you and God bless.

Definitely not easy but well explained there’s a lot of experience in these posts so wonderful god bless
John Napier Howdy John- thanks for watching and commenting. I am a very methodical ol cogger and like to go step by step in showing what I do. It may seem to be hard, physical work but it don’t seem to be hard when you do something you really enjoy. Yes, the bark peeling is physical but it’s just part of the process. I may be a little odd, but I enjoy working and have no plans of ever retiring. God bless y’all- one of these days I’d like to talk to you to see if you’re kin to any of the Napier’s I know.
If they can trace there family back to the mathematician then we are but none of my family communicated much so I wouldn’t know them unfortunately
John Napier I’ll have to ask them if they can, or have, done any geanology. It’d be interesting to know. Blessings
God bless you and yours

@@TheBeardedCarpenter Brother Paul,,. I thought one always needed to hew logs to help keep them from rotting, especially on the foundation and floor joists ,, am I wrong about it being nessasary ?? From Brother Harvey-- ( Son Of Encouragement ) Brother in Christ Jesus..
@@harvdog5669 Howdy Brother- hewing the logs is a personal preference but for wall logs I want them hewed. For the floor joists I just tried up the ends to set in the pockets and flattened the top. I did sand the joists and put a real heavy coat of boiled linseed oil on them. After the roof is on I like to spray boiled linseed oil on the wall logs. Take care and God bless you
I agree, well said Lara.
Another great video. You do such a fine job of explaining the process to those of us who don't have much construction experience.
James Aldridge Howdy Jim- thanks for the kind words and for watching. Hope y’all are doing well down there. God bless

Paul, you can do more with a chainsaw than I could do with a whole wood shop full of tools.
Preacher's Day Off Howdy Preacher - I really enjoy running a chainsaw when they are tuned up and sharp. I figure you’re pretty good in a wood shop. God bless y’all

Dutch Creek Cabin Howdy Drew- glad ya stopped by and watched. It’s not that difficult to cut with a chainsaw. Thank you for the kind words. God bless you buddy
Really enjoyed this episode.
Great control of the chainsaw.
You must have a very steady hand.
What type of wood was it.
Really liked the grain.
Thanks for sharing and God bless.
BluegrassBushcraft Howdy Robert- thank you for watching and commenting. I’m using what we call post oak-really strong and durable. Running a saw like isn’t really all that hard- I just keep the power head a little lower than the tip of the bar. God bless y’all
What brand is the chisel?
J F Howdy- The chisel is a Woodcraft chisel made in the UK. I have other chisels I use that are a lot older. One of my favorite is black smith made- not a real pretty chisel but made well with really good metal. God bless
