It seems tapping for colored mana is the limit. NeonV01D has a great point that I didn't mention about Regenerate in the comments WHY DOES THE RED BANDING LAND SAY "MAY"???
Because Banding was a whisper from Satan to the designers lol. MH4 needs to do for Banding what MH3 did for Energy. Boros Energy is out, Bant Banding is in >:)
Thank you! I try to give accurate information, and correct myself if I get something wrong. Plus, the articles are fascinating. I wanted to read the Mark Gottlieb article about Bands with Other, but sadly it wasn't archived
8:49 Also worth noting that regenerate used to work differently. Originally, there was a damage prevention step right after damage was dealt, which was when regenerate effects would have been used. When this step was removed in a rules change, regenerate was reworked into a replacement effect which works like a “shield” instead, which is more confusing to understand.
The first keyword I fell in love with when I started magic the gathering, was Cumulative upkeep. Don’t know why. It was never that great. But it was the first effect that blew my mind because of how unique it was. It wasn’t just “damage goes through units” or “I can’t be blocked by nonflying creatures”. It was a complex keyword that was unique, and often the cards with cumulative upkeep had effects which increased based in the age counters, which I just loved. I remember making my own SCP deck and printing out the cards way back when, and one card I made was something like: “cumulative upkeep 1. After paying [card’s name]’s upkeep cost, create a 0/0 flesh creature token and grant it +1/+1 for every age counter on [card’s name].” I remember I thought it was some of the most broken shit when I played it with my buddy. But in reality the broken shit was the land I created which converted energy directly into black mana lol.
Damn this is actually a really good video. Keep working at it man, if you keep posting and improving and I'm pretty sure you can make a living on this. You got the goods 😎
Speaking of Partner, Mark Rosewater has stated that the Partner mechanic was a mistake due to trivializing the deck building process, on top of giving decks more options due to the initial partners being two colored. Hence why they became mono colored when they returned in commander legends. Also Partner With has another mechanic not a lot of people know about. If you summon one of them, you (or your partner in 2HG) can search the other one in their library and add it to your hand. The mechanic was introduced in battlebond, which explains why it works like that.
11:18 when I heard the set name "Ravnica Allegiance", the idea of battlebond fresh in my memory back then, my mind whorled with the idea of guild legends with 'partner with XorY', being their two colors in any case, which would've limited deck brewing to 3-color mixes, 2 if there could be multiple legends per guild.
10:10 Actually they did technically do artifact lands again in M15, when they reprinted Darksteel Citadel. That said, it was ONLY Darksteel Citadel iirc, and not any of the ones that give coloured mana.
I think the explanation for -0/-1 counters, or really any other type of counters besides the 1/1 counters, is that it is simply too difficult to track that kind of variety of counters.
We have one artifact land from this year, that enters tapped... but yes, the artifact lands are not cycles at commons on Standard anymore. One as uncommon or things that transforms on artifact lands after a condition. Chroma to me is not just covered by Devotion, Adamant from Throne of Eldraine is close to that; and It happens a few times more on the Adamant line.
Mark Rosewater probably just hasn't been asked about it, but dexterity cards would likely be the half meme "11/10" because not even a major miracle would bring it back
I know it's not on the list but I really want them to bring back bushido for kamigawa. I wasn't very happy with the newer set they brought out of kamigawa because I feel it had some good stuff to be expanded upon that could work today. They already have ninjas which is a fan favorite but I think the power level of the set was the major draw back. Sure we had shit like Epic, and sweep but there are some keepers in it. Japan has a rich cultural viewpoint of tradition (at least to what I understand) and having some older stuff mechanics wise would work out well. Samurai still exist but the theme isn't really anything concrete when you play a new samurai style deck with Kamigawa. Bushido as a mechanic works out when you add other effects that actually do stuff. I mean bushido is similar to Exalted in that they are both abilities that pump the stats of a creature. Make an effect of when this creature isn't blocked you gain a benefit. That way you can really push an offensive with them while making them be desired to be blocked so they interact more on the board. Samurai are meant to be deadly. So giving a higher bushido score in general makes them have the choice of being solid fighters and have the choice to be either needed to be blocked or give the opponent a benefit. Soul shift is a great black green combo too. Caring about the graveyard is super important with that color combo and soul shift is a good way to continue to get resources when your creatures die. There is a green spirit that came out named willow geist. It has an effect of when things are removed from your discard you give it +1/+1 counters. It's a spirit. It works well with the deck because it does something. Nothing does anything with soul shift so it looks like a bad ability. If they worked with it instead of not it would make a good mechanic. There is many more things that could be brought back. These are just a couple I wanted to mention as an example.
@@HPuzzleYT One of the reasons I don't like the return to Kamigawa is it did almost nothing like the original and feels more like a best of set where they take from other sets and just homogenize the set a little. Sure them making it steampunk japan is ok but I feel it misses the mark on traditionalism a little too much. We needed more than one set to expand on the setting since it is basically a new set in general and doesn't show all that has happened since then. It feels a little like it's a victim of the phyrexian story line instead of a real return to Kamigawa.
God, flying is so strong. After foundations, if it comes back I'll flip out. Absolute design nightmare. Unblock able 90% of the time unless you have very specific cards to stop them. Absurd.

Can i just say I'm so happy you're one if the few magic RUclipsrs that actually read the articles.

Just wanted to say your quality of content is outstanding. Definitely much farther ahead of other small MTG youtubers. Keep it up!!

Artifact lands actually were legal back during AFR standard with Treasure Vault. And it never saw play.
Yeah I made a note of that in the pinned comment lol, colored mana artifact lands seem to be the breaking point

Also one day recent attempts at Extra Deck mechanics, from companion to sticker.
I'm late to this one, sorry dude.
The flag in the background though at 4:19 😂😂😂
I would have thought that physical dexterity cards would have made the list
Mark Rosewater probably just hasn't been asked about it, but dexterity cards would likely be the half meme "11/10" because not even a major miracle would bring it back
I cant wait for Banding to come back.

Soul Shift is such a sick mechanic, it's sad that it doesn't see much use

Us flag background killed me
Ohhhhh
"Stormscale" Anarchist lol

Substance doesn't really count since it never appeared on a card.
It's on the Storm Scale, so I covered it
I'm amazed Bushido isn't on the list. It should be - because it's awful.
Print more companions. If I elaborate I will simply be more correct.
If they print more they'll eventually fix everything
