After learning about this issue a while ago we decided to continue to use the built-in anti-slip for our lift2be permarigs but to prevent the problem we make sure the bight we use is fairly loose when clipped so it doesn't get the opportunity to cinch too much and everyone undoes and redoes it after the last session of their day. Once we're at a point where we don't have to tension as often I'll probably switch it to the old AWL4 method with all the daisies.

Hey Jerry, does the abrasion on the tail occur while ratcheting the carabiner free? Or from the cyclic tightening of the tail restraint? Is it preventable by being gentle while ratcheting the tie-off free? Or potentially unavoidable? Thx

It’s definitely from the ratcheting. The only way to prevent it is to prevent the tie-off from getting so tight that you need to ratchet it. If you reset the tie-off often, it can work as intended.

    Hey jerry,
Would attaching the last loop of the tie off to the SS shackle be the same thing as tying the tail off?

That becomes a little tricky as it would be hard to undo. It's super important for a tie-off to be releasable as it will 100% get loaded during every session.

Can't you do that tie-off with just about any weblock? AWL 4, for example?
