I also suggest to turn off Points of Interest in the options. I found myself running from question mark to question mark and it became an overwhelming chore really fast. With them off, you pay more attention to the world and you discover things more organically instead of staring at your map the entire time. Way more enjoyable in my opinion!
Thank God for this video! 👊I bought the game bought the book and was so excited to get started and immediately got overwhelmed. You broke it down into little pieces that helped me so much, just a simple point of pinning an ingredient for example. Video makers have to remember that some of us are not experienced Gamers yet and that are new to the fun and need really basic info first.😁
I miss the noob feeling. I’ve played so many games now that the novelty of a new game wears off pretty quick. I find that playing on harder difficulties and playing for immersions instead of rushing the critical path makes the awe of playing an amazing new game a little more potent. Gosh I sound old. I try not to fast travel I try to walk in towns and act like the character would act. The Witcher 3 is one of the best games for immersion. Sure it’s not perfect, Roach really pisses me off when he runs around afeared of like one wolf and just trots all around the fight getting in the way. But it truly is a game to be savored and taken slow and methodically.
Don't sell everything in other, many items can be broken down into silver, iron, steel, timber etc. I honestly don't understand how you can rage quit this game. As long as you're leveling up via quests, making potions/bombs to support, and exploring undiscovered areas you're fine.
Nope he is right..the only thing the junk is good for is to sell it. The only thing i ever upgraded was his basic suit. The rest of the stuff you truly need you can all find exploring and doing side quests. Dismantling is all just extra costs you do not have to pay for. Repairing your shit is more then enough for the lousy amounts of money you make in this game.
Just buy the pc version download a few mods and skip all the bullshit, no fall damage, no weight cap, and fast travel from anywhere. Get those mods and the game is actually perfect...
Well I’m about to be in that same bout gonna give a go after I watch this, I didn’t get that far the first go through but I know it’s such a good game and my style idk what happened lol
You've convinced me to try and play through the game again. I started the game last year and got a bit overwhelmed with all the items and crafting which put me off the game. I was expecting a really great story with interesting and diverse characters. I realise that the game has those things, but I just got bogged down with the items etc. that I just quit the game.
Thanks finally a video worth watching. All the other Beginners guide video I watched , they fucking assume I know every everything A beginner should know and starts from middle of nowhere .
I just started playing this game. I was going to quit after a couple of hours. I was so overwhelmed by the inventory. Once you get the hang of it it's not to bad. If the combat and movement was more fluid this would be a great game.
The Witcher series on Netflix of seriously outstanding. Anyone with even a vague interest in The Witcher needs to watch it as soon as possible. Henry Cavill is seriously fantastic as geralt. The series has definitely given me renewed interest in this game.
I also just started TW3 after watching the Netflix series. The fact that it's only $15 on steam with all dlc may have also been a factor in my decision to pick the game up. So far (10 hrs), so good.
You shouldn’t sell everything in your other or even armour. It can be dismantled for crafting components. You also should sell some of roach’s stuff as saddles are one of the heaviest items. It’s also useful craft with your mutagens in alchemy as you can make better mutagens for % increase on your abilities
BUckENbooz DLC? What’s that? I have not been able to access or use the crossbow. I am on an Xbox One X. New to Xbox. Any idea why I can’t access it? Or is there a trick to to getting to get it tor work?
@@JonneytheKidd DLC is "downloadable content." Basically, the two expansion packs that were released for the game. You probably have the complete edition of the game that already has all that included. Crossbow: Have it equipped in your inventory, then when you're in the game bring up your quick select menu (the one where you pick what sign to use during combat). The crossbow should be at the very bottom of that menu. Highlight it, exit that menu, and it should be ready to use.
This is probably the most underrated video on this game. A lot of useful information and I like that you showcased things that discourage newcomers to the mechanics of the game. Greatly appreciate this man!
The items under "other" category are also used as materials for Crafting tools, such as metal dishes, leather, wood, etc. It is used to create bombs, swords, armor, boots, gloves, etc.
@@farhadjawhar4055 because so many wrong in the vid, you can dismantle some items on the "other" section that way you got some crafting materials from it, and trophy has weight and some other items in alchemy/crafting like hide etc
I've read lots of comments and want to make a few things clear based off what my advice is in the game. Decotions. It is brought to my attention I was incorrect and decotions you do in fact only have to craft once. The second one is selling all your other. Now I'm not saying I regret selling everything in your other. This video is how I enjoyed witcher 3. I never based this as fact however, if I gave the impression that other is ONLY for selling that wasn't my intention. You can use other to break down items for crafting. Hope this clears some things up.
Finally a video that has actually helped me navigate the maze of sub menus!! Ive watched so many witcher tip vids to help get me into this game with the same shit- "Dont forget to save, you have a silver sword and a steeeeeee-" BLARGH NOT HELPFUL MATE! Thanks so much again :)
I will have to try to get in to it since i never owned a RPG before the only RPG i have is AC Origins. And i am a big Assassins Creed fan. I will do my best maybe it's just because i am not into RPG"S i was only used to Assassins and Splinter Cell and driving games Batman A. Asylums games etc.
For the love of everything Witcher. Do yourselves a favor and craft better Mutagens! Under "Alchemy Substances". You'll give Geralt a serious boost to his attributes when you socket them, especially when compared to any Mutagens you just pick up along the way. Also there's a lot of junk you can dismantle for useful parts, instead of blindly selling. As you progress you'll find and earn a lot of money so don't worry too much about selling a ton of crap just to buy a sword a few points stronger than your own. I promise you'll find decent weapons in the beginning then get into crafting a bit later on after you've accumulated enough parts to not have ever search for what you need (usually) from 20 levels of exploring and dismantling. That's the way I play anyway. The only time I really die with this strategy is from falling.... 😑 Otherwise great video! I hope this gets people into the game for the first time/again.
@@BUckENbooz First time a content creator comments on their 3 year old posts! Theres always that random guy, years late to a game that wants a REAL tip video. Not some bs guide. Thats me, and your provided it. And you're still here, so that makes me happy lol.
@@BUckENbooz thank you for this video, it gave me a good view about what to do in the game (just starting it) I'd have loved to see some tips about making money and stuff like that though ; )

People hating in the comments. Thank you for making an in depth explanation in a categorized fashion. You helped alot of people and I also learned from this
Biggest tip, focus your points into the quen sign, get the exploding shield and the active shield to max and when using quen you can heal yourself in fights and prevent yourself from taking damage, i’m currently on my 3rd alchemy build ps4 complete edition and having the blood and wine dlc is a must for alchemy builds because of the special mutations and what you can do with them, getting every alchemy formula to the superior category is always a top priority as well due to their extremely potent effects
Man this is a Hella good guide, really really helpful, you've answered all my questions unlike lots of other channels that just expect you to know everything 🙌🙌
This is great. I bought the game about a year ago and played for about 30 hours. Lost track of everything and got quite overwhelmed when it got harder and had to use potions and stuff I didn't learn about in the beggining. I will give the game another chance now after watching your video, because I really did like the game and it's athmosphere :) Thank you!
Thats awesome! Always glad to hear people respond like this. please do! remember, take your time. your not trying to beat it. you just wanna play it! have fun!
Just started playing, have watched 10 beginner vids and this was the best, I've got soooooooooo much stuff to sell under the "other" tab lol, thanks dude! 👍🏼
This was very helpful. You’re description of other top videos simplifying too much is on point. This is a very sophisticated game with a lot of mechanism- and it’s easy to overlook things
Nice video, just the music bits are little bit too loud. AND: Some annotations. 1. You need some kind of alcohol "White Gull" for certain alchemy ingredients. Those ingredients you need for highest tier potions, oils and bombs. 2. Decotions are refilled with alcohol while meditating. 3. Crafting witcher gear is essential because you can improve them 3 times (with BaW 4 times) to (grand) master tier and they are so much better than anything you can loot. 4. You did not explain the mutagene slot beside the character abilities, which gives you depending on the colour benefits, with colour matching within abilities and mutagenes the benefits are even better.
Started playing a long time ago then gave up. This type of guide is exactly what I needed thank you. I'm happy to try pick the game up again and give it another try now.
The game is really Simple and intuitive. It's one of the best RPGs, no question about that. If you didn't enjoy it before chances are you're weird as fuck
Wow. This video is 3 years old and I just started the witcher 3. I have watched guides for 3 days and you are just right to the point and honest. Your detail taught me so much. I've noticed yo are the only one saying potions, oils and such are unlimited. This is a detail I have not learned or seen in other guides. THANK YOU!
There are actually quite a few things in the other category that you would want to keep in order to dismantle them and acquire the necessary components for late-game crafting
Thanks man. I understand why a good amount of people are upset with my advice and had some good points and maybe even potentially better advice. This video wasn't made for absolute fact its a video on how I PERSONALLY enjoyed Witcher 3. Glad it helped.
@@BUckENbooz sorry for the late reply. You probably must have tried the dlcs already. Well Heart of Stone is a smaller Dlc compared to Blood and Wine. It has new missions and trust me it is a fun story. The Blood and Wine on the other hand is a much wider expansion. It basically gives you a new map to explore, a map that is really beautiful and the story is great too. I had a lot of fun with the Blood and Wine dlc. Of all the expansions that I've played in any game, this one is the best because of the amout of content and the fun factor involved. You won't be disappointed if you haven't tried it as of yet.
Decoctions works just like potions, you just have to craft them 1 time and that's it! The difference it's on the toxicity and the duration. You only have 1 decoction of each kind, they last a long period of time and usually you just can use one of them because of the high toxicity. You refill your decoctions just like oils/potions/bombs, by meditation! No need to craft it again!
One thing you forgot in the character screen. I remember that you can get bonus effects, when you equip the right combination of traits? I remember it was almost like a puzzle to get the right traits slotted, so that you got bonus effects.
Fantastic guide my dude! Some things I believed you missed that are important particularly in late/early game: 1: mutigans are also craftable in tiers. They can be used for decoctions but their most useful function is on the character screen. Here you can place them in a slot next to your active perks to give any perks with the corresponding color (red, blue, green) a nice bonus depending on how many of that color you have active. 2: The alchemy items in the menu with the mutigans are craftable rare ingredients you'll need for late game potions/bombs/oils ect. 3: weapon and armor degradation is something you should keep an eye on. You'll occasionally find repair kits for the respective categories in the world. This can save you in a pinch and keep you from having to flee battles/hoof it back to town with broken gear. 4: merchants that sell a particular variety of good (such as blacksmith, innkeeper ect) offer more gold for those items. So selling armor to a armorsmith grants more gold than selling them to a blacksmith. This can be great early game when you're pinching pennies. Like I said, fantastic video but if I had any additional advice to give novice players it would be this lol
The music isn't that bad guys, chill I'm just glad to have found what is apparently the most up-to-date witcher beginners guide, because literally every other video I've found so far had the old inventory system :(
Also 1 more thing, decoctions aren't to be used against a specific enemy type according to their name, they're just called so, not only that, they require you to get a mutagen according the name of the decoction, EG (Ekimara decoction= Gotta get an Ekimara Mutagen), also unlike oils it isn't meant to shread deeper into the beast type but rather give "You" the boost up in the battle which might occasionally be damage increase.
I'm so late but I gotta say I fucking loved this video dude, you're so straight forward and you just talk in such a way that anyone who has just a small bit of playtime will understand you.
Not sure if it’s because I’m a gamer, but I just got into the Witcher(only played Witcher 3 because I had extra cash in my psn wallet and wanted to spend it) never cared for the game or anything pertaining to it.... but boy was that the best 30 bucks I spent!! My first few hours, I was grinding/ leveling up, exploring the land etc until I was above the “recommended level”😂. Had loads of fun and the game became a breeze for me
@@hcaps3129 Seen the first three episodes. I'm diggin it. Since its release I noticed the increase in views for the video. Guess it got a lot of people either back into or starting the game.
I'm so late to the party - It took me a LONG time to get into this game. I started it the first time, was overwhelmed with the entire system, and just moved on to a different game. Came back a year later and had the same experience. One year after that, I really focused on giving it a chance AND, once I finished the first area, I finally "got" it. I became comfortable with the crafting system, combat, how bombs and the crossbow work, how to find side quests, using the skill system....I had that all down. I'm thankful I gave it another try because this game is great! The atmosphere is perfect, the controls are tolerable eventually, the side stories are all really engaging.
@@dkhemmen So, I'm not a great person for gaming. I almost always start a game on an easy setting. Then, as I learn about the mechanics, how to manage inventory, how to fight, etc... I'll kick up the difficulty. That way I can mess around without the frustration of dying all the time. I've gotten a decent way into the game without using much for oils and potions. The thing that really, really worked for me was focusing on how signs work. But the inventory management is clunky. Once you're comfortable with maintaining and upgrading weapons and armor, you're doing good.
@@dkhemmen Also, they give you way more side quests than necessary. You'll quickly out-level the story quests if you do all available side quests. I just looked and noticed I had 15 or so unfinished side quests, that were all pretty far below my level. Pick the ones that sound fun, and don't worry about the rest. This game is a glutton of content, it's just getting used to picking what you like, and being ok ignoring the rest.
hey man great video. just real quick, you really need to craft "White Gull" under the alcohol tab in alchemy. you need it ALOT to craft the better oils and bombs.
Thank you! I just started playing this game and once I got the map larger I officially was overwhelmed. I wasn't leveling up very quickly and I couldn't find a lot of things to make oils and bombs. After watching this I feel 100% better getting through this game. I'm only a level 3 but I think I'll just go to white orchard and explore until I level up. It's just SO BIG and that's why I quit playing skyrim. I was too overwhelmed. Thanks though!
Same here! I just finished doing the quests and exploring everything in White Orchard and continued to the larger map (after the castle place thingy). I’m so overwhelmed of where to go, apart from the main story, so I’ve stopped playing a few days ago.
I haven't gotten back to it- it's a beautiful game but I got to a cave and there were rats and it said I had to create a bomb to get rid of the rats but turns out I could have just used my igni and it was too confusing so I rage quit- haha but I think this weekend I'll try again.
I did the same. It was on sell so I was like "might as well." Then started playing, as soon as I got into the very first battle after the tutorial I knew I was gonna have some issues and kinda just sat and made excuses not to play. I did the same with monster Hunter world. Since these are the first games of these series ngave up too easily, but I hate wasting money and decided to force myself to play them and watch some vids on RUclips. Safe to say, I absolutely loves these games now and happy I got them both.
I have only played it for a little while. Level 4... but at this point I still think skyrim is better. I stopped playing skyrim because there was just so much to do, in terms of quest, but this game I just feel lost.
I feel like I’m in the right state of mind now after countless years where I can feel engaged with what Witcher 3 has to offer to the open world genre. Still going to watch the video and great topic!

Alchemy substances under crafting is a very important category. Later in the game you will want to upgrade your bombs to "superior." To do this, you will need ingredients that you WILL NOT FIND. You have to craft these ingredients from other ingredients to then finally upgrade your bombs, etc.
My reaction after watching 5 videos on this and then being only 1 minute into this video: "Oooh shit, he's going to tell me everything I need to know. Wow."
In 2017 I gave up playing the witcher 3 even when I was still in white orchad for around 4 hours. A year later I decided to reinstall and give it a chance and keep telling myself to play at least 10 hours minimal. Now I've beat the main game + all dlc 6 times and I'M IN LOVE WITH THIS GAME. The world, the story, but most importantly the well written characters ❤. My only regret after playing this game is now I have such a high standard for singleplayer games. If it's not as good as the witcher 3, I'd uninstall them right away and never touch them 😂
@@royplayIL you should give it a try. If you love story rich games, this game is definitely for you! I'm going for a 7th playthrough and this time I'll make sure I don't miss a single side quest because there are a ton of random encounters in this game. Most of the side quests are great, and some of them actually have an impact (big and small) to the main story. Just give it time cuz the first chapter may bore some people, but after that you won't be dissapointed
It is terrible editing because the one who edits the videos either: A) Didn't even sample the music, or B) Knew it's loud af and didn't bother tuning it down Of which both A and B are scenarios that wouldn't exist if the editor were competent enough to care.

Video makers have to remember that some of us are not experienced Gamers yet and that are new to the fun and need really basic info first.😁
Glad I helped. Thank you so much for this comment
This, totally. Great guide for us noobs coming into this world with absolutely zero experience with RPG's.
Im glad i was patient with this game i was this close to taking it back and buy street fighter lol.
Don't sell everything in other, many items can be broken down into silver, iron, steel, timber etc. I honestly don't understand how you can rage quit this game. As long as you're leveling up via quests, making potions/bombs to support, and exploring undiscovered areas you're fine.
Matt _ i was able to enjoy the game thanks to killing 100s of pigs in order to get money.
Matt _ exactly!
Matt _ I quit the game because it felt repetitive.
Every game is repetitive. Its a system.
I don’t understand how someone can dislike this. Good work dude. New to the game
because music
I started playing this game again after stopping for half a year. Immediately saw this video, and start playing it again. Thanks man very informative.
Jimmy Merc wow man thank you means a lot to hear.. glad it helped you out!
This game is long story there is lot mission so play this game to final
Just buy the pc version download a few mods and skip all the bullshit, no fall damage, no weight cap, and fast travel from anywhere. Get those mods and the game is actually perfect...
Well I’m about to be in that same bout gonna give a go after I watch this, I didn’t get that far the first go through but I know it’s such a good game and my style idk what happened lol
I started replaying, fell off a cliff during combat had to reload like 30 minutes of gameplay said fuck it and went to Skyrim

Yeah after watching season 1 I have redownloaded and playing the witcher again haha
You shouldn’t sell everything in your other or even armour. It can be dismantled for crafting components. You also should sell some of roach’s stuff as saddles are one of the heaviest items. It’s also useful craft with your mutagens in alchemy as you can make better mutagens for % increase on your abilities
Hands down the best explanation of how the inventory content all works. SERIOUSLY THANK YOU!
Happy to have helped! I'm actually going to jump back into this game but into the DLC. Honestly never tried the DLC yet xD

Oh and , don’t forget, you don’t need to craft decoctions multiple times, just meditate and they refill
BUckENbooz thank you...i was giving up on the game
Finally a video that has actually helped me navigate the maze of sub menus!! Ive watched so many witcher tip vids to help get me into this game with the same shit- "Dont forget to save, you have a silver sword and a steeeeeee-" BLARGH NOT HELPFUL MATE!
Thanks so much again :)
you got it thanks for the comment !
in alchemy the substances like rubedo is needed to craft for upgrading superior bombs and potions you need to brew whitegull alchol for it
I will have to try to get in to it since i never owned a RPG before the only RPG i have is AC Origins.
Otherwise great video! I hope this gets people into the game for the first time/again.
Another Witcher PSA: might get some hate for this one but on death march yrden is invaluable. The skills will become very overpowered when leveled.
The quest with professor mureau was unexpected.
Ian Chamberlain you can hit circle during a fall and won't die as easily

The "other" tab can hold secondary quest items. So dont just sell ALL of it, you can get important things for certain quests in there
I 100% gave up witcher because it was so confusing but after a few years and watching this video I might try it out again. I’ve heard it’s a great game and I feel bad wasting my money on a game I’m not going to play, so I might as well try and beat it
People hating in the comments.

There are actually quite a few things in the other category that you would want to keep in order to dismantle them and acquire the necessary components for late-game crafting
Awesome guide! Thank you for allowing me to easily understand everything.

I just finished the Blood and wine expansion after completing the Heart of Stone Dlc. Blood and Wine is the best DLC of any game till date. Must buy!
I honestly haven't tried any of the dlc yet. What kind of story is it?
@@BUckENbooz blood and wine is about vampires
Heart of stone I have no idea
No need to craft it again!
chakalrbn only on normal dude. Don't play this on normal, you don't get the full experience
Olivia Livingston No, the Decoctions work exactly the same on each difficulty. You don't have to meditate to refill oils btw.
One thing you forgot in the character screen. I remember that you can get bonus effects, when you equip the right combination of traits? I remember it was almost like a puzzle to get the right traits slotted, so that you got bonus effects.
Started playing just yesterday....best explanation for beginners..
Fantastic guide my dude! Some things I believed you missed that are important particularly in late/early game:
1: mutigans are also craftable in tiers.
Thank you
The music isn't that bad guys, chill
I'm just glad to have found what is apparently the most up-to-date witcher beginners guide, because literally every other video I've found so far had the old inventory system :(
This vid is very old but im new to witcher 3 and u help me with this tiny piece of info i appreciate it thank you!!!

It's kinda sad that i had to watch a 8 years old video because i want to enjoy the witcher 3 but i just can't.
Nah nothing sad about that bro. Just because its 8 years old doesn't make it any more or less true! enoy its a great game.
Not sure if it’s because I’m a gamer, but I just got into the Witcher(only played Witcher 3 because I had extra cash in my psn wallet and wanted to spend it) never cared for the game or anything pertaining to it.... but boy was that the best 30 bucks I spent!! Thanks man!
I'm so late to the party -
It took me a LONG time to get into this game.
My first experiences have been exactly like you describe, I really hope to reach the point I can enjoy it as much as others have done.
Thanks for the heads up!

Quenna Stewart your more than welcome! Glad your enjoying it. Going to start some dlc on it soon excited to play it

"Huh. Dis goi's voice is kinda luu. Imma turn up the volume"

Okay chill music may be loud but it’s not terrible editing cause the music was too loud .... broke boy
It is terrible editing because the one who edits the videos either:
A) Didn't even sample the music, or
B) Knew it's loud af and didn't bother tuning it down
Of which both A and B are scenarios that wouldn't exist if the editor were competent enough to care.

Your video might be the only way id be able to enjoy a game i paid 60 bucks for. Shit was too overwhelming and watching the first 6 min of your vid gave me hope. Thanks for this vid.

This is one of the best and most straight forward guides on RUclips for beginner. Wish I watched this when I was starting off
Why in earth you’re not one of those big channels with millions of subscribers!!! This is how the game mechanics should have been introduced since 2015!!
Keep it up! You’re the best!
I had no idea about the alchemy in my first play through. It's nice to have someone explain. I'm restarting it now and taking it slow this time. I'll try to get at least to level 20 doing all the exploration in the first two areas first before I get too serious into the story.
Mark W yeah brother I had no idea at the time either. Just trial and error. I won't pretend to know everything about the game since I still don't. But it's just the simple mechanics that really encourages me to play. How can you have fun if you don't know what your character is capable of, am I right? Enjoy my man.
Mark Whitaker Are you saying you played the whole game without alchemy? How is that even possible? Don't you need to use it for some quests?
For a lvl 10 character, you have lot of potions and alchemy components. nice!
Just from me lootin everything :)
Lol I’m on my 8th play through all of them on death march I have done all side quests and contracts and I have all achievements... And no life :(
Fruit Salad holy fuck 8 play throughs lol, if you play on pc, how much hours have you put in to the game? I'm curious
Fruit Salad on steam
Thank you so much I just replaying it now as it turns out

You might have saved Witcher 3 for me. Thanks.

Kevin Keel yes please all know I was false with the statement that decoctions don't refill when resting. Sorry about that.
@@BUckENbooz Ohhhhh. That's alright then.
I've been scrolling through the comments for ages, trying to find someone who had figured out how to get them back quickly.
Started the video off thinkn' I was gettin' tips from Jesse Eisenberg on how to not give up on Witcher 3.
Thats the first I heard haha.
