The number of musicians on stage is prosaic: in the studio, each musician is able to record many individual parts and then mix them together. But in a concert, this is simply not possible. That's why Pink Floyd has two guitarists, two drummers, two or three keyboardists, etc.

    • @AceofBadeReacts

It takes a lot of added personnel to reproduce the sonic experience Pink Floyd creates on their albums, and they spare no expense in doing so. Speaking of wall of sound, that sound is coming at you from a speaker setup 360° around the stadium. A couple of hundred thousand watts of power going *through* you no matter where you are. I was at the ‘94 Pulse concert at Soldier Field in Chicago. I was also at the ‘88 indoor concert here when they introduced this song and I had much better seats. I assure you all that smoke is not natural. There are smoke machines all around the perimeter of the stage constantly billowing out tons of smoke. The effect created on the first floor sitting right underneath those lasers was extraordinary. You look up and you cannot see the ceiling, only bright fluorescent green clouds floating just above you through shards of blinding light beams. It was an amazing otherworldly experience. 🤯

Pink Floyd are the Undisputed Gods of Live performance. There is no act today that can equal the effect of a Pink Floyd concert. Their show is designed to blend the visual with the musical. Everything designed to hook into the souls of the audience and pull their emotions to the surface. Every single song in this concert is performed to this level. Ill recommend Keep Talking and High Hopes next

When they performed in Denver for the Pulse tour in 1994, the laser show was so intense at Mile High Stadium that commercial air traffic was diverted away from the area.
It's the only time in the city's history that has happened.
      There were giant inflatables.
      A massive disco ball.
And a WWII fighter buzzed the crowd before exploding.

It was part of the show!
It was probably only half scale in reality, but it flew from one side of the stadium (on wires or something) to the other, trailing sparks and exploded in pyrotechnics on the opposite side.
It wasn't just lasers. The entire show just pummeled you in 3D.
Everyone left that show in kind of a daze. It was a truly overwhelming experience.

The whole concert was truly groundbreaking. From the logistics (leapfrogging cities with three identical setups) to the computer programmed lights, to the projected video, to the sound quality (quadraphonic) and volume (well over 250000 watts in power), to the amazing stage design and size, to the inflatable characters, flying beds, pyrotechnics, giant glitter ball, the blimp flying overhead in open air venues. Nothing like it then (back in 1994) and, to be honest, nothing like it since (and I have seen a lot of concerts).

The reason Pink Floyd overwhelms you with sound is they completely surround the audience with speakers on both sides, behind them above them and on the stage and basically create a giant set of headphones for the audience to sit inside of! I've seen about 100 concert in my lifetime from ACDC to Led Zeppelin and everyone in between alphabetically. I've seen Pink Floyd live 4 times in 3 different decades and I've never seen a better show than Floyd puts on!!! Pink Floyd show in 1977 when Rodger Waters was still with them called the In the flesh tour they played all of Wish You Were Here all of Animals and half of Dark Side of The Moon for their encore!!
During that concert I saw at least 15 people get hauled out because they were freaking out from the intensity of the concert!! I'm sure they took something to enhance their experience but if you weren't ready for it it was too much!! The stage and lighting production cost 25 million back in 1994. PF was always cutting edge in terms of stage performance. They always pushed back on the idea od being 'rock stars'. They are musicians--at this time at the peak of their prowess. The music and the experience of the music was always priority #1. I was lucky enough to see them a few times live--unforgettable experiences. Consider watching the entire concert including DSOTM--which was the purpose for doing the tour according to Gilmour.

Even though they are good songs, they are not a true representation of who Supertramp is. They are, to keyboards what Pink Floyd is for guitars. Try the album Crime of the Century. From the sixties Pink Floyd have always been about the lights as well as the sound.... Did you notice, no screens to show highlights or audience on... I was at theis concert and a previous one in 1988.... Because these are arenas the guys on the stage can just be seen... so it isn;t about THEM... for them it is about the music they produce and the lights tat are an integral part of their live shows. When you went to a Pink Floyd concert you went for a sensory experience.... Still remember being there and there is no-one that comes close.... Possbily Peter Gabriel... but that's the only one.. And as for them being one of the best bands... I think that's a moot point.... Pink Floyd are in a complete genre of their own.... Thanks for the reaction....

With regard to strobe lighting, strobe lights do not trigger epileptic episodes unless they are flashing within a specific range of frequencies (somewhere around 8 to 15 flashes per second if I remember rightly).
You can rest assured that Pink Floyd's lighting operators know not to flash a strobe light at those frequencies.

Every night was a little different , or so i am told.
The Division Bell tour concerts usually ended with 3 encore songs, but the order tended to change from night to night.
The recorded concert at Earls Court, the videos we know as Pulse, used Comfortably Numb as the 2nd encore and then finnished with Run Like Hell.
You should do Run Like Hell......
180 degrees different to the gentle, soothing ambience of Comfortably Numb and short, repetitive lyrics...... but a masterpiece and Genuis finnish to the concert.
Time to P'..off now, gotta go.

The number of musicians on stage is prosaic: in the studio, each musician is able to record many individual parts and then mix them together. But in a concert, this is simply not possible. That's why Pink Floyd has two guitarists, two drummers, two or three keyboardists, etc.
When it comes to lighting and visual effects, Pink Floyd were the European pioneers of visuals and animation in concerts on stage. Syd Barrett from the beginning was figuring out how to visually support the psychedelic music they were producing. For example, they experimented with spray paint on glass with condoms and so on. Back in the early 70's they created a circle on the backdrop of the stage into which they dropped video clip cuts or just abstractions. The circle was later continually enlarged to the size you see here at the Pulse concert...
Incidentally, the visuals on this tour were handled by two world-renowned production companies, and the construction and installation was so complex that it was worth creating two, so that one was at the concert and the other was already being prepared for the next concert in the next city.
