Saw Pink Floyd at Giants Stadium July 18, 1994 -- my parents got me a ticket for my 19th birthday. It was the Division Bell Tour or Pulse as in the live videos from the dvd. Possibly the best concert I've ever seen.

I think artistic inspiration is often derived from places we've never been. Forces beyond human ones, often drive creativity to send a message. Sometimes that message isn't 100% understood by the performer. Maybe the performer is merely the vessel that delivers the words and sounds from a realm that we don't understand.

Just to say, to my taste, the best version of many later versions of this song, it's Delicate Sound of Thunder which is the concert tour for Momentary Lapse of Reason album. Progressive rock at its best.
I love Sorrow, its one of the best Floyd tunes of the post Waters era, but to truly appreciate it, you really need to see and hear it LIVE IN PERSON, its absolutely mesmerizing and pulsating live with the band shrouded in dry ice fog and the light effects. Too bad you weren't at least watching the band perform the song from one of their concert videos so you can watch Gilmour's great guitar work.
I can tell Tasha was getting a little bored....but I liked hearing her thoughts.
I don't know how much Floyd you've already done, but as a counter to this "downer mood" tune, I'd highly recommend High Hopes from the Pulse Concert blu ray. I think its Gilmour's best song since the Dark Side or Wish You Were Hear albums in the mid 70s. Its a perfect song, precise, beautiful, a very emotional song. Need to see it played live.

This is an amazing song to begin with… but when you realize this actually a live performance it just blows you away. I get the “aliens” reference, but I have a different take. Us humans are capable of so many remarkable things if we open ourselves up and allow ourselves to feel vulnerable, let go of our ego, and just be what we were made for. I know that sounds like hyperbole, but we are capable of incredible things. We are other worldly.

This song specifically holds very deep and special meaning for me, because I've spent too many days of my life as the man in the song. It was released at a time when I was finishing high school and getting ready to go to the Navy. Of course, many people have had bad moments or entire childhoods, but the moment I heard that first note on the guitar, who I am, and have been for a very long time blasts from my speakers. I'm also not conceited or arrogant enough to say that this song was written for or about me, yet every note, every word, always hits home. Too many days have been spent under dark gray skies, and every promise that has been made to me has been broken. It wasn't written for me, but it sure feels like it's me, and my life.

This recording is from Pink Floyds 1994 Pulse Concert at Earls Court London. It's one of just a few Pink Floyd concert videos that are available in its entirety, or as individual songs, on RUclips.
Many of the Pulse Concert videos are re-mastered and re-edited so they look and sound great! And as you can tell right here in this video you're reacting to, they sound phenomenal, like it's a studio version!
You guys would love that concert, you should react to it, or at least some of it! "Sorrow" is just one of many, many great performances Pink Floyd puts on LIVE. The light and laser shows alone are almost as incredible as the music,.... well maybe not quite that much, but they're great. Lol!
Unbelievable performances of "Comfortably Numb" (with its 4 minute long, song ending, David Gilmour guitar solo),... "Money",... "High Hopes",... "Learning To Fly",... "Time" and many more.

Hi guys! Just catching up with your reactions recently and totally love both of you ❤
Totally agree on 'otherwordly'. When I agree with 'I've never heard anything like this', we can all understand that this came out in 1987!!!!!! So ahead of all music, it had to have come from outer space 😍

I have been listening to pink floyd my whole life. I have seen David Gilmore live at the Astrodome in 1987 shortly after Roger left the band. I was able to get to see Roger waters in Austin in October of 2022 completing my Pink Floyd live performances.

The Alan Parsons Project is another band that is similar to Pink Floyd. In fact Alan Parson was the assistant engineer on Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album. Floyd's music takes every individual on their own path of feeling and emotions.

I'm a bit late to the party here but hearing you talk about going from childhood to adulthood, you should definately listen to Pink Floyd's tune High Hopes on their album Division Bell.

The amazing thing about Pink Floyd music it that the "sound" of so many of their songs expose the listener's inner feelings and emotions that write their own lyrics into one's consciousness... and those type lyrics don't always match the lyrics of the song as written.
I can't think of ANY other band who's music does that on a scale like Pink Floyd.

If you haven't heard of Brit Floyd you should check them out. They are a tribute band to Pink Floyd.

Find time to watch the entire Pink Floyd Pulse concert. This version of Sorrow is taken from that show.
