In her latest videos she seems a little bored with this subject now. Her best content is anything baking related imo. You can really hear the passion in her voice
As a professional cleaner, those "toilet cleaning hacks" are so dangerous. As Ann says, there´s a risk for toxic gas, but you also have no idea what happens if that gets in contact with your skin and eyes. I've had a coworker who needed to go the hospital after getting toilet cleaner on her skin as it led to a bad skin infection and sepsis due to that infection. Just don't effing do it Edit: make sure to always read instructions, most of the time cleaning products are supposed to be diluted before use
It can create toxic fumes that kill people, so true. People tend to overestimate how much of cleaning a cleaning product they need, they are so concentrated you really don't need much to kill bacteria and remove dirt and isn't that the goal?
its literally mustard gas, like?? at most i use comet and some toilet gels to keep smells out. and very rarely use bleach and the pink stuff if i need a good scrubbing. otherwise, i try to keep it to a bare, not for money. but for the sake of my damn lungs and animals. also i think some people should be highly aware of over using products in your laundry, and smell good supplies. i see these videos of people using SO MUCH products in a simple load of laundry, and i doubt they understand that you dont need that much! (softer, tide pods, those bead things you throw in the washer, fabric sheets) It seems people truly do ignore warnings.
@@williamjenkins4913 that sounds abit of a lie to me, me and my dad both go through a can of comet at least every 2 months. alittle less if we do major cleanings in sinks and bathtubs.
It scares me how much people let their kids sign up for when it comes to different apps. I saw toddlers, like 2 or 3 years old, scrolling through tik tok and RUclips but can't fully read yet. I worry about what to do for my baby when she gets here because parental controls on phones and tablets aren't the best.
I don't know why anyone would let a toddler have a phone/tablet that is connected to the internet to be honest. When we were growing up, we didn't have internet access and we all did just fine lol.
@@chanicelock3151 my cousin does this to her 3 year old, she say it help him sleep by waching, i take it she is to lazy to give atention to the kid so she just give him the phone to wach there, heck he usely is on facebook scrolling.
That story towards the end... "it was crazier to be alone on a strange road at night than getting into a car with a stranger" my brain just had a meltdown. The strangers are the reason that place is dangerous!!!
Honestly when I heard that I had to pause the video because I could not compute someone saying that. In fact, I find it so unbelievable that I think either this was a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation (which, if it’s the case… How evil can you be really) or just someone spouting the dumbest sh*t they know to get reactions in the comments.
@@AlwaysAmTired I thought about that, but if it was a Reddit story it wouldn't say "Its more dangerous standing on an empty highway than getting in a car with a stranger at night" because that person would get downvoted like crazy and probably wouldn't get much traction anyway. I think this was a deliberate attempt to trigger people so they'd comment (good in the eyes of the algorithm) and dislike (because dislikes don't matter, they're still a reaction and that's also good in the eyes of the algorithm). Just a scummy thing to do, I hope karma gets that person and I hope it bites them hard.
@@NatLaS I think it’s a deliberate attempt at brainwashing. Someone has an agenda. RUclips has no trouble censoring some channels, why leave that garbage up?😕

I live how she not only debunks false videos, but also explains why they are dangerous or offers alternatives that will give a better outcome. She also goes above and beyond in her follow-through and really gives you a good reading of the whole story with sources, examples, recommendations from professionals, or warnings. She really does feel like a mother who wants to protect everyone watching her videos and I really appreciate that.
Exactly, such a high quality woman that you can really trust. She cares about people, it’s a shame that she is so rare, we need way more like her. And Dave!
Is it debunking, if you don't explain why it doesn't work? She's even testing some of the "hacks" (her poor microwave and pans 😔). Every time I see a new debunking video by Ann, I know it's going to be interesting. She does great fact checking.
When I was in the 5th grade, I wanted to surprise my grandma on Mother's Day with a sparkly clean house. It was my very first big solo cleaning project. I cleaned her toilet, not knowing mixing chemicals is a no no. Naturally, I mixed bleach and ammonia. Instead my poor grandma spent the day on the phone with poison control, running steamy showers, and talking me down from sheer panic. I was loosing my mind thinking that I had literally burnt my lungs because it was so hard the breathe.
I had this friend in my late 20’s that worked at a bar(she was in her early 20’s) and caused everyone to have to leave the bar because she was cleaning with ammonia and bleach at the same time. I learned not to mix chemicals early but there are still plenty of adults that don’t know that.
First thing my dad taught me was to never mix your cleaning chemicals, that's how you end up with mustard gas and a few extra things they used in WWI. The most deadly thing on the planet isn't humans, weapons or natural disasters. It is ignorance.
@@anandam1 it's not clickbait if the video references someone else's video Ann actually referenced the particular video of MrBeast's that wasn't accurate in this video If someone doesn't eat for 30 days, unless they are overweight at the start or are are under hospital supervision and receiving some sort of alternative nutrition, such via an lV line ,they can go into shock, suffer a cardiac incident and die As my mother would have said, "it's not big and it's not clever" 🙄
@@anandam1 I don't think you understand what clickbait means. If you are making a video about frogs, it's totally reasonable to have a picture of a frog in the thumbnail. The same is true for cakes, sports, and even Mr Beast. It's fair use.
@@anandam1 Were we watching the same video? He did post several misleading videos that actually were clickbait and she pointed them out specifically and included how they were clickbait. It doesn't matter if it was only 30 seconds, as you claim, because it was part of a larger section of the video talking about clickbait videos in general which was also included in her thumbnail. She included exactly what she was talking about which makes it not clickbait.
True story: way back in the 60s, my grandmother decided on a whim to go visit her next door neighbor. The neighbor was cleaning the floors when she got there, and seemed very dizzy and weak. When my grandmother asked her if she was okay, the neighbor admitted she was cleaning with a mixture of ammonia and bleach. Apparently she didn't know this was dangerous. My grandmother opened up all the windows of the house and then dragged her outside until she revived. If my grandmother hadn't come over for a visit, her neighbor would have died that day.
Creates chloramines. Small amounts are used for disinfecting and killing germs in water. Inhaling the gas can kill. It's a good idea not to mix bleach with anything.
I ended up in the ER, mixing cleaning supplies, but not sure what they were. I know one was Comet, or Ajax, and I think the other was either Pine Sol, or a bathroom cleaner. I was cleaning the tub. Not sure what it was, but I couldn't breathe, and being mildly asthmatic, it affected me.
I remember watching an episode of 'detective conan' in the late 90s where it was explained that mixing different cleaning supplies could be deadly - and that episode has stayed with me to this day. Never mixed my cleaning supplies. So, thanks, Conan, I guess.
I remember a Simpsons episode where Marge is trying to clean quickly and mixes Ammonia and Bleach to speed it up and passes out alone. If I remember right all goes well but it's SUPER deadly most of the time. And I saw a lot of these cleaning videos and was like "OH MY GOD WHY ARE THEY MIXING SO MANY THINGS?! THAT'S DANGEROUS!!!" and my friend [who shared it] told me to calm down it's not bad they do that all the time and I was like "how are you alive?"
I'm gonna bet that's the one where a girl wanted to murder her sister/friend but attempted to cover it up as suicide. She drugged them in the bathtub, sealed all the openings to the bathroom and mixed the cleaning supplies. It was failed with a plot twist. I wonder if Aoyama Gosho used the same tactics too in other cases, he did repeat some.
@@Crow_Smith I saw a king of the hill episode where Peggy had a little paper column for housekeeping tips and tricks, after running out of tips she tried to make more and thought of combining ammonia and bleach only to find out after sending it off that she'd just told a bunch of people to make the equivalent of mustard gas to clean their house. Luckily they stopped it from being printed but still it's made clear how bad it could've been. That's one of the many things I've seen that make me super nervous about mixing anything with very strong chemicals
What's so tragic is that we need, literally NEED Ann Reardon, a top food scientist, to try and save the world from youtube videos that should never have been allowed to stay up. Thank gods for Ann. Long live the queen of debunking.

Thank you for making these videos hopefully a someone like younger me will find your videos before doing something dangerous, hope this comment helps the al ✌️
Lol as a kid, I did this at restaurants with leftover food (think the last of the dipping sauces mixed with the bottom remnants of watery soda, maybe mix in a little salt or hot sauce) while the adults continued talking.
Mixing cleaning products can be dangerous, but most of the time you're going to be fine-ish. People run out of a cleaning product and open another one all the time. Much of the time, nothing happens. (If you get two products that use the same formula for instance) Much of the rest of the time, people will see or smell something scary and get away from it before they sustain significant damage. It's dangerous, but you would probably be alive even if you had mixed cleaning chemicals. (I did my share of mixing cleaning chemicals as a kid and while it was not a good idea and was scary a few times, I'm alive and well-enough.)
Thank you for bringing up the "story time" videos. I've caught my 6yr old little sister watching those a lot because she likes watching the decorating parts, and she'd been complaining of nightmares. It's crazy how people are making those videos knowing little kids are going to be watching them. Thank you for bringing this issue up, showing some light on what's happening. Love you and your videos, keep up the amazing work!
It's quite scary. I wouldn't be surprised if these were linked to human trafficking. It could be a new way to find a vulnerable child. This must be stopped.
Whatever those channels are they can't be trusted. I'm not entirely sure why you would want to sneak creepy stories to kids but that's not normal behavior
I've come across a handful of these on TikTok and I'm 90% certain that they're not actively targeting kids. It's super common on the platform to reuse sounds like they are memes, but a lot of diy/craft/baking content creators use the most outrageous stories (be they funny, stupid, shocking or salacious) because it gets some people to stick around to listen rather than get bored partway through and leave. Its intended for older audiences, but there's no way to control who sees it. It absolutely is a problem for young kids on the platform who are more drawn to the actual video and then are subjected to inappropriate stories. TikTok's algorithm is a black box with no parental controls or oversight features and no one should be allowing young kids to use the app. I won't even use it around my niece and nephew because i have no way to know what the next video may be or let alone if it's age appropriate
There’s videos like that also on RUclips Shorts!! I know because I watched a few… yeah, woops. The fast cakemaking and voice is mesmerizing, but don’t do it
I definitely recommend teaching your sister how to take charge of, and customize the media she consumes. Like, watch the baking videos she likes on mute, while listening to stories or music that she likes with another window or device. 👍
My grandmother asked what we use to clean. I said just vinegar and water. She got confused and started mixing vinegar with other cleaning chemicals. Grandma was literally making warfare gases in the house and would just open windows…

Hey Ann, I really appreciate how you've gone from focusing just on food hacks to overall dangerous youtube issues. It's not something that I really see covered anywhere else, so it's nice to have somewhere to look to find information like this
what I appreciate most about H2CT is you don't talk down to your audience when explaining why something is dangerous or unethical or simply won't work. people always listen best when you speak to them like people.
Mr. Rogers did this sort of thing all the time, too. That is, the not talking down part. I haven't watched much of his wonderful show for a long time, so I don't recall all of it. The salad thing is called "plasmolysis". You can condition salad by cold (or ice) water to get some crunch back, but you do not have to wait over night. If you left it allone for too long, the cell structure will burst and it will go way more mushy. Wash it, let it soak a little, drain and go with your favourite dressing. Lettuce rescue ;)
at the restaurant i used to work at, salad was chopped at the beginning of each day, and then stored in, i kid you not, a garbage bin in the walk-in fridge full of cold water. it worked-- the chopped lettuce stayed fresh and crisp-- but just... ew.
Plasmolysis is when a plant cell is losing water (for example by being in salt water or when wilting). Did you mean that the salad is undergoing plasmolysis and you are reversing it by giving it water (hypotonic solution)?
In a Julia Child cookbook, there's a tip for flat cakes: it says to tilt the baking tin to run the batter a little bit up the sides of the tin. I think it's supposed to work because of the surface tension of the batter. I never tried it because I don't bake layered cakes. Would you mind trying it out? I'm curious if it's a great hack that just got lost over time
For the slime video, the QR code made me feel like the video footage of the slime was taken from the Chinese creator directly. Quai Shou is a Chinese short video app, and it is common for the video creater to link their own profile using the QR code at the end the video. Lots of these app requires you to download the app to view the video (so that has nothing to do with the content creater) and these apps do take a lot of your personal info as per Chinese internet safety law mandate. However, the original Chinese creater's video doesn't seem like it has these narration in the background. I'm not sure if that creator is associated to CoCo slime the RUclips channel, but it doesn't make sense to me that the Chinese creator will try to advertise their channel on RUclips, a website where their target user cannot use. So I feel like it is likely that CoCo slime took those video, added their own narration, and forgot to cut out the original creator's QR code? Just a theory though.
After talking to a number of computer experts I have discovered that while many US and Chinese sites require much the same amount of personal information - including personal phone numbers, locations and all sorts of other bits and pieces that can be used to scam the person downloading the app - but that the regulations in China are much much stricter than they are in the US where the information apparently often ends up for sale on the dark web to anyone willing to pay the price. That is the reason many of the US internet sites can't get permission to be seen in China, the security measures they would have to take are far far more stringent that they are in the US, and they are simply considered too lax with their safety measures when it comes to keeping peoples personal information safe. And I have noticed that particularly recently with more and more QR codes that keep asking you to scan them in only for you to then have to download an app to read/use the information. Some of the personal details they are asking for (and they are plainly NOT sites from anywhere in Asia) is downright scary in the amount of information they want (far more than my own government wants on its official sites). If you must use these apps - and I can see why people want to - then ensure you have a fake identity handy with an email address used solely for this purpose, if you can afford it a throwaway sim/phone for a number you can use and, ideally, one of the credit cards where you have to put money on before you can use them to buy anything. I have heard of people filling in the details and then finding they have had their bank accounts emptied because - and it was something where enough had been affected for a public warning to be made over here - the details collected so you could use the app were sold on to whoever wanted to pay for it. With disastrous results. At least the only problem I have had is a dozen or so spam calls almost daily on the cheap sim I used for the phone number. So I know the phone numbers were sold on to others even if nothing else was.
A lot of story time short stories over satisfying videos creators just steal or reuse the original creators footage, sometime's the og creator it's tagged in the caption, but more often than not it goes uncredited. For the personal info thing, it reminded me of Instagram, they ask for e-mail, acces to archives on your phone, camera, microphone, location, phone numer, etc. unfortunately its data that social media platforms use and monetiza the most
I once used two different toilet cleaners at the same time because I was using up what was left of two bottles - I immediately ran out of the house dry heaving and almost crying. I think I have mixed a bleach based cleaner and an ammonia based one. Incredibly dangerous and I don’t get why people would be doing that as a trend!! Stay safe everyone
It's all those pretty colours. I loved watching car detailing and house cleaning and after some tume I'd start seeing videos of people mixing all these colourful chemicals, and while it looked nice with the flush from dirty to purple to clean, it was basterdized until it was impractical.
I’m the manager of chemical management unit at a local uni & it’s always the 1st thing my staff who is a certified competent person of hygiene tech say in her talk/training. Never mix even a simple chemical even at home because ammonia is always present in most cleaning products
My grandmother did this (she ran out part way through and needed to finish up, that's all...) and passed out, if my grandpa hadn't gone and gotten her out of the house as soon as he heard her hit the floor she'd have been dead. To this day I refuse to use 409 or ANY spray cleaner on a toilet, even the tank, because most toilet bowl cleaners have bleach and I don't want even the possibility of it coming in contact with residue.
That toilet cleaning "hack" reminded me of a KoTH episode, where Peggy is a columnist for a newspaper and she puts tips for cleaning, housework, cooking etc. The tip was you mix two chemicals so it can whiten the clean but it just ended up making a recipe for mustard gas.
Bleach+ammonia yields choramines, not mustard gas. It's not much better tho. Bleach+peroxide yields lots of hot oxygen, which can create violent fire hazard.
They're also creating problems for the elderly and their loved ones. While my 80 year old mom isn't likely to dismantle a microwave or start setting wine bottles on fire, she has some mild dementia so she gets angry at me for not being able to recreate the hack or if I try to explain why it's fake. After all, she saw it with her own eyes, so it's definitely real which, to her, means I'm the one doing it all wrong.
I'm torn- I love the idea of how safe and how much less clickbait there could be, and I also think there would be so much negative pushback from clickbait content creators that Ann would need extra protection.
I am glad that my parents always told me even when I was little, that I must never mix two different cleaning products because that can lead to dangerous reactions! I was shocked when I learned that some of my adult friends don't even know that.

With every debunking video, Ann's voice for safer advocacy gets stronger and stronger; I wouldn't be surprised if someday she became the face of a new movement pushing for immediate changes and overhauls to RUclips's falling-apart system, given its past, and especially their recent and current, failings
To be fair, this really is one of the cases where "criticizing is good", but "solving is f***ing hard". Moderation doesn't scale well. And automated approaches aren't much better. You see all the same problems with every other even remotely similar platform. RUclips is has strong financial incentives to make this work (as advertisers run away anytime anything looks even slightly controversial) and yet they're doing at best 'barely okay'. The reason why clearly criticizing is still good and should be applauded is because it helps when problems RUclips to get their problems framed in clear and diverse ways. For every voice that screams "youtube should ban even remotely dangerous videos" there will be a voice screaming "who the f*** is youtube to decide whether I am capable of doing something safely". And both voices are valid, and RUclips is trying to find a path through that entire mess.
Hello Ann!! I got an answer for you regarding the kuaishou app link! Basically a lot of these story time videos just steal proper arts and crafts videos from legit actual craft channels who usually post on apps like douyin(Chinese tiktok) etc. These apps tend to allow viewers to download the video direct if the creators allow the option but with a watermark attached. Following that link would have brought you to either the original Chinese poster’s account or a reposter account. The QR code itself isn’t dangerous, but just like any social media app, kids should not be allowed on unsupervised at a young age cause a lot of varying content goes up on there.
@@sengarde6541 But China being your enemy country isn't it unsafe? Our country has banned Tiktok for security purpose as Chinese company was taking too much information.
Moreover, the content seems to be for kids from a Western perspective, but Chinese short video social media does not have the same habits - so many videos seemingly childish for some adult westerners are just the run-of-the-mill entertainment content for millions of people.

I'm surprised that some people would consider wasting the trimmings! i also hear that it can be turned into cake pops, i dont know how that would be done though and have never tried to,
The problem is that when you have many orders the cake trimmings add up and you end up with more than you can handle, so it can be annoying or wasteful. Sometimes you don’t have the time/energy to make cakepops after the cakes 🤗

I'm not a parent, but knowing this would really give me lots of anxiety if I were. Thank you for making and sharing these fascinating and important videos!
Those videos aren’t even meant for kids. It’s meant to give you something interesting to watch while listening to a story. (Quite literally referred to as a visual stim) Maybe people need to stop expecting the internet to raise their children for them.
I love domed cakes! They’re the best, you get to cut off the top and eat it while you decorate. That’s the best part of making cakes, eating the scraps.
Yes, never mix cleaning products. My brother in law (Cambridge graduate and brainiac) once had a blocked dishwasher and after trying one product, tried another then had to have a lie down cos he felt a bit dizzy. He then realised he'd just made chlorine gas through the reaction of the two products!
My father almost mixed bleach and ammonia one day while cleaning the bathroom. It took me explaining that covid is more resistant to bleach than dawn dish detergent to get him to finally stop using bleach to clean everything (It was irritating my stepmother's lungs too.)
yeah my sister in law did something similar she was cleaning her bathroom put bleach bathroom cleaner all over the toilet/counters etc and then decided that while it was sitting for a few minutes she'd clean the mirrors and windows with Windex which is amonia based and she had to go run out onto the balcony to get air because she'd gassed herself out.
I actually learned about this through a horror game xD In Silent Hill 3, there's a room where the protagonist is blocked from continuing by a bunch of bat creatures, too many to fight. To get through, she has to combine bleach and detergent in a bucket in the room, quickly leave, and use an industrial fan to air out the room. Boom - all the creatures are killed. Between the sounds she made fleeing the room and the absolute massacre inside afterwards, it really imprinted on teenaged me to never mix those things!
@@reid3031 Same. One of the reasons I never mix cleaning supplies (or anything else) unless it is specifically stated on the bottle that it is allowed. Otherwise..no mixing. XD
Bit freaky, but when I was young I used to really like the smell of the cupboard under our sink- i figured the smell came from the descaler and some other cleaning product we had and after a while, instead of taking whiffs of the cupboard I would mix tiny bits of the chemicals together for the smell- thank god someone found me doing it and told me it was dangerous- I fear I might have actually damaged my lungs because of the habit but I cant be too sure :/ (For clarification, I have completely quit the habit)
Mixing cleaning chemicals is no joke. Back in the late 1990's my Dad was trying to unclog the sink in our basement bathroom and mixed 2 different sink uncloggers. He was having trouble breathing and almost passed out. My Mom called the fire department and 2 fire trucks and an ambulance came over pretty quickly. Me and my brother were kids at the time, I think I was 5 or 6, and I remember being so scared and crying the whole time. Thankfully he recovered and suffered no long term effects, but that scared all 4 of us for a long time.
Can you tell me if what I'm doing is bad? When I'm cleaning the bathroom I mix Domex, bleach and laundry detergent together. The fumes aren't that bad because I put a little bit to a lot of water. But still.
@@havensohn3821 Not sure if you'll see this but here's your answer anyway: Mixing different kinds of surfactants (solid/liquid soaps, dishwashing/laundry detergents, "general purpose" cleaners) is generally safe and shouldn't produce any harmful fumes, but there's really no benefit to doing this over using such products individually in their recommended manner. Mixing them together will likely _reduce_ their effectiveness vs. using a single product diluted with hot water as per the instructions (with some exceptions, e.g. organic matter like blood or grass stains should be treated with cool water not hot). The big No-No is mixing in bleach. Chlorine/oxygen-based bleaches _should never be mixed with anything other than water_ . Both types of bleaches are designed to be highly reactive - that's why they work so well as cleaners/disinfectants - which means that when they're mixed with certain other cleaning products (cloudy ammonia being Enemy #1) there's a good chance that the instant chemical reaction will release some really nasty gaseous byproducts like chlorine and oxides of nitrogen. In a confined space like a small bathroom and at high enough concentrations this could easily be extremely harmful or even fatal. Cloudy Ammonia is a pretty old-school cleaning product that isn't used as much these days, but many cleaning products can still contain ammonia-like compounds which really should not be mixed with bleach. Bonus cleaning tips: If a surfactant product isn't shifting a stain/mark, try using a more concentrated solution or dilute it with really hot water and use rubber gloves to protect your hands (fact: the water is what's providing most of the solvent/surfactant action in 90% of cases anyway, hot water/steam is the most effective solvent known to man, the soap/detergent just helps the water do its thing). If this still doesn't work, the stain is water resistant so you'll need to try a hydrocarbon-based solvent e.g. methylated sprits, isopropyl alcohol or dry cleaning fluid. Sharpie ink and paint-like substances e.g. pigment-based printer ink will never come out with water alone but alcohol will remove the stain if it hasn't had time to fully dry.
@@havensohn3821 you're wasting your life cleaning, maybe ask yourself why you are so paranoid you'd use really strong chemicals like Domex!? I had to look that up bc it's not available in North America! As a British descendant don't worry, if you're a brit, no one will notice anyway, it's not like they clean either!
Today I saw this channel for the first time and I haven’t seen a channel like this to be this considerate and caring and truthful and cautious while producing high quality content and entertainment I’m glad this channel exists, definitely a new subscriber
I saw her first on Facebook a couple of days ago and I was intrigued I'm very interested. So I found her on RUclips today and I definitely subscribe because this is so informative and so entertaining and so amazing and enjoyable to watch 😘
@@marciwhitman3513 she has the knowledge, tests ideas and does a big amount of research and Dave makes taste sacrifices, they are great at helping people and I don’t see many content creators bother themselves with that thought, she also helps clean up the YT algorithm so the more she puts out content the less we see those fake things in our timelines, it’s great on all account
11:40 this reminds me a crime story around the 70s where a young woman (around 19) asked for a ride to get to a friend's house (I don't remember the details). To resume the story, she was kidnapped by a family and suffered horrible types of abuse (sexual abuse, torture, starvation etc) for 7 YEARS. She basically slept inside a wood box for all this years and was know for "the box girl". It's so unbelievably cruel what she went through that it looks like a horror movie script (and there are actually a few movies about her story). She made through all this years of nightmare and are still alive, but had to go through many years of therapy. What caught my attention in that story is the detail she said in one of the interviews: "I was at the side of the road asking for a ride, and a car with 5 young men stopped for me. They told me they would give me a ride, but I felt like it wasn't a good idea so I didn't. The next car that stopped for me was a couple with a baby in the back seat. I felt like it was safer so I accepted their ride". That couple were the ones who kidnapped her. NEVER accept rides from strangers, even if they look like good people. It sounds logical that a family with children looks friendly, but horrible people can have families too. Stay safe
May I *also* remind you all that *The Green River Killer, Gary Ridgway,* lured some victims to their deaths by showing them a photograph of his kid? He had a job, he was married a few times, and he killed at least 49 women. He's the 2nd most prolific serial killer in North America by confirmed numbers. Oh, and when he was a 16 year old in 1965 - 1966, he lured a 6 year old into the woods and stabbed him in the liver. The kid survived.
Here in Brazil a man got kidnapped by a family with 2 kids, both of them very young ( about 8 yo). They were walking on the road under the rain and the poor man gave them a ride. After a few minutes, with the adults help, THE KIDS tried to kill him, break his fingers with a hammer, cut him etc... after hours of torture the family decides to set him on fire. He was so lucky that because of the rain they weren't able to start the fire, so he stills alive. Ps: happened 2 years ago
Love this series! The tin foil cake hack was so silly, she literally is showing herself peeling off the baking paper that would be on the bottom of the cake, and while saying she didn't need to cut or level them, she shows the 'bottoms' of the cakes, which we know are the tops, which look obviously like they've been cut!
yes! i saw that and thought the same thing! also trimming cakes gives you cake scraps you can use to patch the cake if something goes wrong...or a snack while you're decorating. i don't even think i've ever seen the ace of cakes guys be able to make a cake that didn't requiretrimming
Ann is the internet Mom we all need. "That is a bad idea and here's why." Then proceeds to give a full explanation and scary real-life stories to back it up. I love the wholesomeness so much. Keep doing what you're doing!
The cake one was so obvious that she had already cut the cakes and simply flipped them over and then removed the baking paper from the bottom which will obviously be completely flat
To be fair it is only obvious if you've baked cakes before. Many of the people who watch these may not have the "experience based knowledge" necessary to spot this immediately 🤷
Talking about mixing cleaning products always reminds me of a time in college when my friend and I were trying to clean her apartment and we mixed vinegar, baking soda, and bleach. We had tried two and then added the third one for a stubborn stain. Right after we did it, I remembered a Tumblr post I had seen a while ago warning about chlorine gas and we immediately got to clearing the air in the place by opening all the windows and getting fans to circulate the air. I think about how lucky we were that day because we realized how bad it could have been if I didn't remember that post. It shocks me that people would just be willing to risk something like that to make an video.
Possibly they used all the same kinds of chemicals, safe to mix together. Or they actually just used different kinds of heavily colored soap (body wash? they can have those intense colors), maybe with a bit of laundry or disgwasher detergent (that powder had to come from somewhere). Maybe they actually had a chemical expert that reviewed their plans and gave them stuff.
@oaktree_ I think the point though is that people watching (especially kids) might not know that, and could mix products at home without knowing the risks.. not concern for the people who made that video
@oaktree_ That doesn't really matter. I assume they don't mention what they use, so anyone watching could think "oh, I should mix all my cleaning supplies!" because that's what they think they saw, and then they do it and pass out or die. Like, even if the video isn't dangerous in itself, it can very easily create a bad situation.
That tinfoil cake hack is driving me insane, because in the original video you can CLEARLY SEE that the cakes have been trimmed!! They just flipped the trimmed side down! Also, with the storytime slime videos, the storys are usually split into 2 or 3 parts. But the content farm channels never actually post the other parts, the whole thing is meant to get people engaging with as many videos as possible in order to try and find the rest of the story.
I gotta comment about the lettuce hack. The whole "trimming off the end and soaking it in water" thing is actually what we produce clerks do in the grocery stores every single day. I'd say about 15% of it comes to our store already dry and wilted, so we trim the ends off and let it soak in a big sink for about an hour, often alongside other veggies. Even when it's fine, the trim-and-soak is still what we do to ensure it stays fresh while on display in the store. In fact, many produce items are even shipped with ice injected into the box so they can drink up that "dirty water" as it melts and stay fresh on their way to the store (brocoli, carrot bunches, and and bunches of herbs are the most commonly shipped in this manner). If the lettuce leaves already had e.coli contamination, you'd get sick regardless of whether you soaked them or not, so using that as a reason for this hack being "dangerous" just sounds really silly to me. Like, I would certainly hope that y'all are washing your veggies before you eat them anyway, because they sure do come in pretty gnarly sometimes.
Thank you!! I found myself rolling my eyes at that part. Produce is expensive, and wasting food just because it's a bit wilty is ridiculous. No amount of 'not-soaking' is going to help you if your veggies are already contaminated. Soaking veggies is a great way of giving them new life and preventing food wastage.
THANK YOU!!! I mean, really, she does tend to make random claims that can oftentimes be false. Every year, 100 billion pounds of trash are wasted in the US, so things like this can save a lot of waste. Think this kind of stuff through, Ann Reardon!
If sat the lettuce out overnight in a warm kitchen and didn't wash the leaves before using it, the risk of infection seems higher. Also, can the leaves actually draw bacteria up through the water?? Is e.coli going to keep reproducing within the lettuce leaf system?
There is a lot of extreme panic about food safety where there really doesn't have to be for some reason (well i can think of a few). Especially in the anglophone countries for some reason
The fun videos with non-matching audio scares the living cr*p out of me. Leaving a comment to support Ann and her videos! These types of videos are so important.
THANK YOU FOR COVERING THE CLEANING TREND. i watch so many cleaning and organizing tik toks and i start foaming at the mouth when people put so much cleaning products in one space. I also once watched a person but fabuloso in a HUMIDIFIER.
I think a similar bottle hack has already been in your videos before and I remember how I wanted to acttually try reusing my bottles that way to turn them into glasses or flower vases but you've shown that it's dangerous to do that at home, because the glass could literally explode or you'll start a fire. Thank you for keeping us out of the harm's way! ❤
I remember doing something similar years ago, using a glass cutter at a fixed height to create a weak point around the bottle, then (IIRC) hot and cold water to crack it. It worked quite well, with a bit of sandpaper to take off the minimal edges. Kept my paintbrushes in it until it lost an argument with an elbow and the floor... These videos that try the same thing with fire seem to go for spectacle and clickbait rather than practicality and... well, sanity. It's like making an 'introduction to woodcarving' video by swinging a chainsaw around on a length of rope.
@@vermis8344 I think it was meant for those who don't have a glass-cutter at home (they are rather expensive and hard to find where I live), so instead you use things you're more likely to have at home or cheap to purchase, so if it actually worked the way it was shown in their videos it would have been a nice hack. More than that, I came accross several videos from different creators / platforms doing something similar so it gave me this false sense of security since 'everyone' is using this hack without a problem. I still had my doubts remembering a few jars or cups that exploded after me pouring something hot in them, but some people might have just tried the hack without giving it a second thought.
@@ghostly.creature Often times you can find a cheap glass cutter at a hardware store, all it really does is score the glass, because that's how you "cut" all glass. As a professional glass artist, to shape a piece for a window it score it and hit it or bend it, maybe use breaking pliers if it's a small or delicate cut. Of course, you also do that while wearing gloves and safety googles if you like your eye sight.
To be fair, people who professionally cut bottles (yes it's a thing) do heat shock them, but they score them first (cheap glass cutters can be found at most hardware stores) and they always wear safety googles. ALSO, re the bangle in this vid, they did like every other pro and sanded it. Probably used a bottle sander, it's a special shaped sandpaper/grinder thing that attaches to a drill and woosh! smooth. But you still want to use water with it or wear a N95 respirator since silica glass dust is a bad thing to breathe...
i never actually thought they were aimed toward kids. i just thought they were just storytime videos, but to be honest that hitchhiking story is giving grooming material vibes. i wish an investigation would be launched into these things.
Thanks for all the hard work you put into these debunking videos! I shared some clips from your channel with my middle school media class a couple of weeks ago when we were discussing internet safety and how algorithms work in real life. Most were huge fans of 5 Minute Crafts, and some had even seen the videos with the bleached strawberries or the diy popcorn maker. They were shocked and outraged that people - presumably grown-ups - could get away with telling them to do these kinds of dangerous things. Like yours, their minds immediately went to the issue of how to hold these creators accountable for the content they're posting. We talked about how dealing with these content farms is kind of like dealing with bullies in school - your best option is to walk away and then report to someone in authority.
Hey Ann, love the content! Just wanted to say that single-celled bacteria are generally too large to be absorbed through the roots of a plant. Rehydrating wilted greens is pretty safe. Though, washing your produce before eating it is always recommended! Also, if there are any mushy parts of the leaf after rehydration, just cut that part away
The recrisping segment could use a revisit/clarification. Yeah, uh, a significant amount of fresh produce sold in a large store is misted frequently, getting it wet at home doesn't magically make it contaminated. And working in a chain store subjected to health department rules, we do crisp greens like that on a regular basis. Slice the end, soak in cold water for an hour or two, and that's it. No one's telling you to soak clearly gone off or mushy greens, crisping is for like, mildly wilted or droopy cases. And you should be washing produce you bring home anyway. Many people today don't have the luxury of throwing out safe to eat but mildly ugly food.
@@seffaflotus One of the reasons we keep having E. coli outbreaks related to lettuce etc. is that the plants DO absorb the bacteria from the soil. For example, if the farmworkers picking greens don't have access to a bathroom and do a #2 in the field (possibly because they *are* sick).
@@splendidcolors The plants don't absorb the bacteria into their tissue. It remains on the surface. Leafy greens are bad because they have textures that are hard to completely wash and because people often don't wash them well enough.
Yeah I didn’t really get her logic with that one. If what Ann said was accurate, then how do you rinse your greens to clean them? Bacteria has also definitely gotten into the inner leaves too from the whole process of farm to kitchen so it’s not just the outer ones you have to worry about. You should be fine just rinsing your greens off with some water or eating greens that have been in sitting water for a bit. You’re likely not going to ingest a bacteria that will get you sick. Not every head of lettuce automatically has E. coli and some bacteria that will get you super sick. It’s just that if an outbreak of those does occur, than you just shouldn’t buy it or discard any that you recently bought because you likely won’t be able to rinse out the bacteria due to all the small grooves in your greens where bacteria will settle and avoid being rinsed off
Getting a notification saying you’ve posted a video, is always exciting. So much interesting content every week!! My favourite channel!! So informative, entertaining and you really seem to care about your audience, not just the views. Thanks for always looking out for us Ann!! Hope you have a great school holiday!! 😊❤️
King of the Hill literally had a whole episode on why you shouldn't mix cleaning products. Peggy ends up accidently making a recipe for Mustered Gas and prints it in the paper as a cleaning tip.
I love that you make a point of talking about paying attention to what children watch. My daughter doesn't use headphones and I was surprised once to hear your voice coming from her device. It's wonderful she watches your videos rather than all this nonsense you're constantly having to debunk.
Honestly, Ann is too good for RUclips. Some creators gain popularity and never evolve or think critically about their privilege. Ann decided to use her platform to try and keep other safe, and save them money for the milder hacks. And frankly? It's refreshing. RUclips isn't going to clean up its act, so it's powerful to have someone try and do their part. Thanks, Ann, for the baking tips AND the safety warnings!
My goodness that bit about the horror stories being told along with kid friendly video is terrifying! Thank you for putting the word out about this and all the other dangerous lies you debunk for us!
Adults and teens like to watch true crime stories along with meaningless visuals. It's essentially the same as listening to a podcast. Not everything is for kids. It blows my mind how many parents trust the internet to raise their kids for them.
Ann mentioned this in another video, but what’s scarier is that some of these stories end up with the person doing dangerous things, like getting into a stranger’s car, having a happy ending. It makes it seem like it was a good thing for that person to do something dangerous and it’s like they’re priming children to do things that will get them hurt. So scary that some people are priming children to be even more susceptible to be taken advantage of, I just don’t get it!
@@mattie3867 No ones saying to let kids be raised by an algorithm wtf?? You're taking it out of proportion. Putting a video on for your kid and watching out for 5 minutes is long enough for them to accidentally swipe to a different video thinking it looks fun like "ooh pretty cupcakes and slime"..and that's long enough to traumatize a kid if the story comes on talking about gruesome stuff. Parents cannot watch their kids 24/7 but that doesn't mean they're "raising their kid on an algorithm"
As someone with young nieces and nephews (and one on the way!), those baking videos with the creepy stories over top actually scare me. My family members tend to not just let their kids watch random videos on RUclips, but they occasionally have, and I'm genuinely worried of them having nightmares or getting information that's genuinely unsafe. This is yet another reason I'm very anxious about having my own kids one day. The internet has too many people preying on children, in particular, and the companies in charge of the platforms keep allowing it because they do not care one iota about their viewers, only their wallets.
I really don't think those creators are preying on children in any way, they're just assuming that kids won't see their content. People think of the "oooo satisfying" and recipe videos as being for adults and act accordingly.
@@slithra227 Well if thats the case then they could easily put "horror story" or something like that in the title or thumbnail but choose not to because it would get less clicks. So I gotta disagree with you on that. It's purposely catered to children because that's where they'd get the most views
@@MattFCC Just scrolled past someone angry that they're getting slotted as children's content because they make slime, but they regularly cuss in their videos and don't want to censor themselves for a demographic they don't actually market themselves to. I think, personally, that the ever growing expectation for adults to censor themselves and not act like adults on the internet for the sake of kids who shouldn't even have access to online spaces is really fucking annoying; let alone what it says about the future of our privacy and freedom of expression in a world more and more dependent on an internet controlled by three companies.
@Knave there’s a video Ann has that goes more in depth with this specific tiktok/RUclips trend and how it is grooming children for violence. The stories are always spoken in a voice that sounds friendly to children, specifically the one about getting into a car with a stranger. The stories are fake and always end positively like “wow the man took me home! :) it was totally safe to get into a strangers car!”- what is the purpose of that, any adult would know that story is fake but do you think children will?
@@teresitaperegrina3741 yeah, the voices in the other videos about going to meet a stranger from the internet sounded like troom troom 😬 and this one sounded like a hyperactive robot. Neither were something most adults would choose as their preferred content, in my opinion
I can't thank you enough for doing these videos. I've got an 11 year daughter who is the prime target of these videos you mentioned. Luckily we don't allow unsupervised internet access. This video along with the electric wood burning video (and others you've debunked) have no doubt saved people's lives in more than one way. Thank you!
Thank you so much for keeping up with this series Ann, I know this may not have been the direction you thought your channel would head in, but you are a port of sanity and knowledge in the chaotic storm of youtube's algorithm.
I'm actually kind of glad someone brought the knowledge of not mixing cleaning products into a more public sphere. At my old job, cleaning a gym, one of my coworkers often just added to my mop bucket instead of tipping it out and refilling it with whatever it was he used, and on multiple occasions that ended up with me unintentionally sealing myself in rooms with buckets of mustard gas. It wasn't until it caused me to throw up at work that I decided to be more careful about it, and it wasn't for another month until I realized why it was happening.
There were a lot of bad jewelry techniques these past few years so thank you so much for addressing that! Burning a finger is not fun but a lot can go wrong with power tools, open flame, gas tanks, chemical fumes and molten metals... As for the wax ring. When they zoom out of the flower it looks like injection wax model. Yes we use carving wax that melts at a high temperature and has a more solid plasticy texture, yes we now also use 3d printing wax, but we also use silicone/rubber molds that we fill (inject) with another type of wax. That wax still melts way to hot to dip a finger AND is much more sticky witch makes it not suitable for carving.
I've never heard about leaving it overnight but I've used something like the lettuce hack MANY times to perk up wilting greens. All you have to do is cut the greens you want to use and WASH them in cold water with a splash of vinegar, rinse them off, and then dry them to eat like you would normally! Even a couple minutes really brings them back to life just by washing them like you would anyways ^^ i learned it on Good Eats many years ago haha
I usually leave the lettuce in cold water for about 10 or 15 minutes, and it works. Then I wash it of course. I didn't agree with her point on food safety, does she not wash her produce?
I've left my greens from the garden in a bowl of cold water for several hours many times, many years, and it's always been fine. I've heard some of my friends leaving lettuce from the store in a closed bucket filled with water in the refrigerator for a few days and they've never had problems either. Not that I don't believe her, I just have doubts. Is it really as bad as she claims it to be?
@@kigerneko There have been multiple recalls for contaminated lettuce. While the risk may be low, all it takes is one nasty microbe to ruin someone's day.
The stupid cleaning products trend had some people actually having the gull to think that people who thought it was a bad idea were just being "chemical karens" like what the heck man. Some people sure arent smart.
If someone told me they used that many cleaning products on their toilet at once Id wonder if they A) Had the worst diet known to man B) Had the nastiest toilet known to man C) Was the most neurotic germaphobe known to man Or D) all of the above.
@Cristobal Garces "Germaphobe" is the US colloquial version of Mysophobia my dude. Dont know if it is anywhere else, but thats normal to say in the USm Now stop being so pedantic.
A note about the first one involving cleaning products. Ann isn't saying you can't use more than one when cleaning but completely wash away the first product before using another
I want to have a kid in the future and to foster troubled kids/teens, it scares me how predators have it so easy with the internet and how so much content targeted to kids is so wicked and malicious. When i was younger i thought "parental control" options on the phone or pc were dumbest idea but now i think it should be obligatory x.x Also, Ann, you're doing an amazing work on your channel, educating in such a approachable way, we need more like you all around the internet!
Thank you for pointing out those “story” videos. That absolutely terrifies me. I’m usually right near my 6 year old when watching YT. My 12 year old however does have her own device. I definitely need to be more diligent since filters don’t appear to block these
The glass bracelet one is dumb because even if it worked exactly as advertised, you've still got a band of fragile glass wrapped around your arm, just waiting to break and get jammed into your artery if you ever trip...
I think the 'glass bracelet' she was wearing was probably a strip cut from a green plastic bottle (maybe ginger ale). Never use glass, even if it's smooth. Having one break on your arm and the shards imbed into you is a horrifying thought! 🖤
Acrylic would be the best material, it's smooth like glass and has a nice density but is very hard to break and when it does it won't do a bunch of damage to you, maybe a scratch. Idk why people don't use the amazing materials we have available instead of doing something dumb just because they had an idea. I have millions of ideas throughout my life, I don't just do them all, that would be dumb.
I feel like people would have to start actually paying for online services like RUclips and RUclips would need to implement a good and reasonable pay structure which disincentivises pumping out videos which I know isn't going to happen any time soon unfortunately.
Had a young (~11) cousin who excitedly showed me those cake deco videos with the overdramatic my story animated voiceovers... understood a lot of why she was saying such crazy things sometimes. Her mom is still extremely neglectful too and lets her watch this and talk to adults online. Keep an eye on your children!
This might sound super cheesy and it's not actually about the video specifically, but I just had a very horrid, stressful day. Sitting down for a late dinner and having Ann be the first thing in my RUclips feed was the best feeling ever. Thank you for all you do.
Youre a hero, Anne! Sometimes it feels like these fakes are obvious but they arent if youre a kid, also sometimes when you just let your guard down. Im so glad you, a skilled artist and craftswoman, decided to use your platform for public safety. And i do love art of all kinds, but what youre doing is exactly what the social media ecosystem needs.
I like how she tray the hacks a couple of times and give it the best chance, and when it fails she explains why, and what does make that dangerous, It feels like she really want to help and protect other people from getting hurt
Love this series! Just a note on casting wax rings: there are actually multiple types of wax you can use, at least one of which is quite soft. My source is that I actually made a ring with soft wax when I was a kid, which my friend's dad, who is a jeweler, then cast into metal.
I'm so happy your channel is around, my daughter watches your videos about debunking. Makes me so happy instead of watching those garbage channels that fake content. Thanks for informing us of the other type too will keep a look out for them
Those wax ring cylinders with the flat bottom really take me back to jewellery classes at art school (and the many hours it took to simply carve a simple ring out LOL) but I we never had it melted, was always given to us in those workable shapes - really hope people don’t actually go out there and buy jewellers wax and dip their fingers in without knowing just how hot they made it!!
I did this in highschool. (thanks to a Very good set of art programs at my school) and the teacher was the only one allowed to handle the molten silver. The rings always came to use pre-cut in sizes and the like. The wax was harder to carve than leather hard clay from pottery class. (I got a lower grade in pottery class than I should have. I never could get the right amount of kicking the wheel correct and the electric wheels were ALWAYS taken by the class favorites. So I never could use one of them. I got a d- on my wheel-thrown pot. Lol.)
I run a baking business, n the wet strips along the outside of the tin hack is something I do EVERY single time. My cakes come out perfectly flat. I never ever trim them. Saves so much cake n lessens the workload as well!

i feel like it’s a ritual for me now to watch your new uploads at 3 am even though i should be asleep 😅 love you ann and thank you staying a constant force in ending the spread of mis/disinformation online!
when I was a kid I almost combined lots of cleaning products together once to make "the ultimate cleaning product". i did this with shampoos and body lotions so i figured, why not cleaning stuff? my parents had a lock put on the closet so I thankfully couldn't access anything and when they asked why I wanted acces to bleach they told me it was dangerous. i still wasn't convinced but i had no way to access and thankfully never did something dumb. when I got older i still felt the urge to mess around with it but never did because i kept in mind what my parents said about it being dangerous, despite not understanding why (i unfortunately was not the smartest teenager and didn't understand chemicals being even more dangerous when combined) i just left it. now I'm older and understand why it's dangerous and I'm very glad that I both never had access to it and that my parents sat me down and explained that cleaning stuff is not safe for me to play with. i feel like things could've ended differently with my curiosity but I'm glad it didn't. im also very glad you're talking about this, if I saw this when I was a teen i bet i would've stopped considering it way earlier than I did.
@@stillnotstill me too! one thing i will absolutely be paying extra attention to is locking cabinets and putting cleaning supplies in safe spots. also soo important to tell kids why it's dangerous. "don't play with it" "why?" "because i said so!" would never have worked for me. kids are curious and stubborn!
When you started talking about the youtube videos kids end up accidentally watching nowadays, it reminded me of something my nephew started saying recently. He started calling certain (seemingly harmless) videos 'scary'. He'd look over to me and show me the video and say, 'this is a scary video'. I didn't think much of it, since it looked harmless, but I think I'll definitely be paying attention to that from now on!

Well someone has to do it.
Just don't effing do it
Edit: make sure to always read instructions, most of the time cleaning products are supposed to be diluted before use
It can create toxic fumes that kill people, so true. People tend to overestimate how much of cleaning a cleaning product they need, they are so concentrated you really don't need much to kill bacteria and remove dirt and isn't that the goal?
Why would people see this a a ‘hack”? It looks harder.
@@justaminute3111 Yeah I dont know what they were doing. I clean 20 toilets a night for a solid year on one can of Comet.

There are some good parental control apps that you can use once they are old enough to have their own phone - but that doesn't help when they are 2.

When I was in the 5th grade, I wanted to surprise my grandma on Mother's Day with a sparkly clean house. It was my very first big solo cleaning project. Instead my poor grandma spent the day on the phone with poison control, running steamy showers, and talking me down from sheer panic. I was loosing my mind thinking that I had literally burnt my lungs because it was so hard the breathe.
I had this before with bleach and chlorine, worst thing is my friend knew its not okay but she said its a must to kill the germs 🤦🏼♀️
I had this friend in my late 20’s that worked at a bar(she was in her early 20’s) and caused everyone to have to leave the bar because she was cleaning with ammonia and bleach at the same time. I learned not to mix chemicals early but there are still plenty of adults that don’t know that.

My mom got a chemical burn in her lungs mixing those together to clean.
That mixture is phosgene gas. It was used in ww1 and killed countless people.
Vinegar and bleach does the same thing. It releases chlorine gas.
I remember watching an episode of 'detective conan' in the late 90s where it was explained that mixing different cleaning supplies could be deadly - and that episode has stayed with me to this day. Never mixed my cleaning supplies. So, thanks, Conan, I guess.
I know exactly which episode your talking about lol!
I always have to think of that episode.

Oh, no. You made a chemical weapon- mustard gas.
I’m the manager of chemical management unit at a local uni & it’s always the 1st thing my staff who is a certified competent person of hygiene tech say in her talk/training. Never mix even a simple chemical even at home because ammonia is always present in most cleaning products
I was taught about the dangers of this as a child and I'm still nervous as heck when I clean the bathroom
Ah the internet's favourite Aussie Auntie. I love every upload. I'd even go as far as saying this is one of my favourite comfort channels.

I am glad that my parents always told me even when I was little, that I must never mix two different cleaning products because that can lead to dangerous reactions! I was shocked when I learned that some of my adult friends don't even know that.
The grad student teaching assistants in a lab class mixed Dawn and bleach and then made fun of me when I smelled chlorine and yelled that we needed to evacuate.
@@splendidcolors Well, Dawn is just a surfactant. It won't react with bleach the way ammonia or an acid will.
But if you don't know that, it's always better to err on the side of caution. So you did the right thing.
@@splendidcolors bleach slowly decomposes and fumes chlorine on it's own, especially when affected by light. This is where its distinguishable smell that irritate your eyes and lungs comes from.
@@eclectichoosier5474 well, surfactant will make bleach foam, which would increase it's evaporating surface area dramatically, which will result in more intensive bleach decomposition and forming of chlorine fumes. My throat and eyes hurt just as i think about it. It's probably not deadly yet, but i'd really prefer not to be where it is happening.
When I worked took rental a coworker of mine, three years older than me, talked about mixing bleach and vinegar to clean out a machine that was gummed up. I had to explain to him how bad that would be :/
With every debunking video, Ann's voice for safer advocacy gets stronger and stronger; I wouldn't be surprised if someday she became the face of a new movement pushing for immediate changes and overhauls to RUclips's falling-apart system, given its past, and especially their recent and current, failings

Yes! As other people have commented, it's quite normal for Chinese apps to have access to most of the information on your phone.
@@sengarde6541 Not just Chinese apps, many linked to US apps do as well. I have a fake profile/phone/email purely for using with these apps.
@@sengarde6541 But China being your enemy country isn't it unsafe? Our country has banned Tiktok for security purpose as Chinese company was taking too much information.
Moreover, the content seems to be for kids from a Western perspective, but Chinese short video social media does not have the same habits - so many videos seemingly childish for some adult westerners are just the run-of-the-mill entertainment content for millions of people.

i actually love to save the cut-off dome from cakes in the fridge and eat them as bonus snacks with some peanutbutter/jam.
@@sarangeonew If you have extras you better be using them for something especially if they're coming in bulk! lol. Cakepops will do or if you really don't have the energy try taking them to a local homeless shelter or something to donate the leftovers? Someone will eat them :]
It seemed to me that that hack would've worked with shorter tins, or more cake batter. None of the cakes had enough space to rise and fill the cake tin IMO. Definitely save the trimmings if you're just baking at home though.
It is so incredible that those creepy story time video’s aren’t getting banned! Thank you for highlighting this, Ann!
Unfortunately it's not surprising. RUclips, patreon, and Etsy (plus others) are more concerned about making money than child safety. Patreon literally has child abuse pages they won't take down. i think we do deserve Anne, unless you work with 5 minute crafts yourself lol
What a negative/deprecating thing to say. I don't think Ann would approve, heh. 🙃
I actually learned about this through a horror game xD
In Silent Hill 3, there's a room where the protagonist is blocked from continuing by a bunch of bat creatures, too many to fight.
XD
Bit freaky, but when I was young I used to really like the smell of the cupboard under our sink- i figured the smell came from the descaler and some other cleaning product we had and after a while, instead of taking whiffs of the cupboard I would mix tiny bits of the chemicals together for the smell- thank god someone found me doing it and told me it was dangerous- I fear I might have actually damaged my lungs because of the habit but I cant be too sure :/
(For clarification, I have completely quit the habit)
But still.
@@havensohn3821 Not sure if you'll see this but here's your answer anyway:
Mixing different kinds of surfactants (solid/liquid soaps, dishwashing/laundry detergents, "general purpose" cleaners) is generally safe and shouldn't produce any harmful fumes, but there's really no benefit to doing this over using such products individually in their recommended manner.
Don't you learn chemistry in your school system?
@@havensohn3821 you're wasting your life cleaning, maybe ask yourself why you are so paranoid you'd use really strong chemicals like Domex!? I had to look that up bc it's not available in North America! As a British descendant don't worry, if you're a brit, no one will notice anyway, it's not like they clean either!

She was on the radio today. She didn't start the channel to make money but as a pastime. It shows in her outlook on everything.

Omg I’ve definitely used that combo before to clean my shower! Didn’t realise that might be super dangerous?
Thank you for being one of the few channels that has remained true and grounded in quality, researched content
Ya I was pretty surprised hearing this thought process. Washing and soaking greens to crisp them up is pretty commonplace in my world.
Yes, I feel like I've seen her really debunk the cutting a wine bottle hack in a longer video

I was looking for this comment. Thinking a plant can absorb bacteria in... I mean the plant would absorb them while still in the soil then.
@@splendidcolors
The plants don't absorb the bacteria into their tissue.

You people are so melodramatic. Get a hold of yourself.
@Richard Dickinson maybe it does mean that. If this is your kid, then why let them be raised by an algorithm?
I like that your thumbnails aren’t lies. They are actual screenshots from the video just with some text or pictures added.
It's really sinister the ways in which people will target the vulnerable in society. Thank you so much for these videos!
That wax still melts way to hot to dip a finger AND is much more sticky witch makes it not suitable for carving.
ive worked with all sorts of wax for my projects, never really was a fan of the harder ones but thats because i did more flowing designs
@@radhiadeedou8286 washing is ok. The risk is in leaving to soak for a long time because it gives bacteria time to multiply
When Ann uploads a debunking video, it’s both a good and frustrating day. Her and her family are greatly appreciated in a crazy world.
The stupid cleaning products trend had some people actually having the gull to think that people who thought it was a bad idea were just being "chemical karens" like what the heck man. Some people sure arent smart.
I would tell them to mix bleach and ammonia and see what happens.
If someone told me they used that many cleaning products on their toilet at once Id wonder if they
A) Had the worst diet known to man
B) Had the nastiest toilet known to man
C) Was the most neurotic germaphobe known to man
Or D) all of the above.
Yeah, sometimes I wonder if the term "Karen" is just a tad overused by folks who can't take criticism or something.
@@childofcascadia Um actually, it's Mysophobic. Lol
@Cristobal Garces
"Germaphobe" is the US colloquial version of Mysophobia my dude. Dont know if it is anywhere else, but thats normal to say in the USm
Now stop being so pedantic.
The bottle bracelet thing is particularly disturbing because of the damage that could be caused by even a minor blow to the glass.
When i was younger i thought "parental control" options on the phone or pc were dumbest idea but now i think it should be obligatory x.x
Also, Ann, you're doing an amazing work on your channel, educating in such a approachable way, we need more like you all around the internet!
Oh yeah, just what I need, a bracelet that'll shatter and/or slice me open the moment I accidentally smack it against a door frame!
I think the 'glass bracelet' she was wearing was probably a strip cut from a green plastic bottle (maybe ginger ale). Never use glass, even if it's smooth. Having one break on your arm and the shards imbed into you is a horrifying thought! 🖤
Yeah, cutting your wrist like that can massively shorten your lifespan. Probably the reason why the emo scene died out, literally.
or pyrex. That's pretty much indestructible.
@@LordDragox412 Ha
@@LordDragox412 Wow, we're still making emo suicide jokes? You stuck in 2006 or something?
Acrylic would be the best material, it's smooth like glass and has a nice density but is very hard to break and when it does it won't do a bunch of damage to you, maybe a scratch. Idk why people don't use the amazing materials we have available instead of doing something dumb just because they had an idea. I have millions of ideas throughout my life, I don't just do them all, that would be dumb.
There's got to be something we can do to make youtube a better place for honest creators!
Nope we can't, money is the only motivation, we don't matter unfortunately
@@RainRemnant and that's why I hate money
I feel like people would have to start actually paying for online services like RUclips and RUclips would need to implement a good and reasonable pay structure which disincentivises pumping out videos which I know isn't going to happen any time soon unfortunately.
We could encourage them to post on odessey.
I like how she tray the hacks a couple of times and give it the best chance, and when it fails she explains why, and what does make that dangerous,
It feels like she really want to help and protect other people from getting hurt
She's such an excellent teacher!
Thanks for informing us of the other type too will keep a look out for them
These “DIY” fakes really makes me concerned for people who try them and believe even one of the dangerous ones.
Does anyone else feel like Anne is the cool and caring Aunt that they've always wanted? 😄 💛
She's the internet mom every kid needs.
Education is really the best form of harm reduction. Thank you for everything you do Ann!
Lol.)
I love how Ann's channel isn't just about cooking anymore. She's keeping the internet safe
I run a baking business, n the wet strips along the outside of the tin hack is something I do EVERY single time. My cakes come out perfectly flat. I never ever trim them. Saves so much cake n lessens the workload as well!
Thanks for mentioning taking a look/listen at what the children are viewing. My mom taught me to always pre-screen every video my kids watch but wow, just wow. I'll have to share that with other moms I know!
Breakfast + Ann is the best combination.
I also watched this with breakfast!
i feel like it’s a ritual for me now to watch your new uploads at 3 am even though i should be asleep 😅 love you ann and thank you staying a constant force in ending the spread of mis/disinformation online!
when I was a kid I almost combined lots of cleaning products together once to make "the ultimate cleaning product". i did this with shampoos and body lotions so i figured, why not cleaning stuff? my parents had a lock put on the closet so I thankfully couldn't access anything and when they asked why I wanted acces to bleach they told me it was dangerous. i still wasn't convinced but i had no way to access and thankfully never did something dumb. when I got older i still felt the urge to mess around with it but never did because i kept in mind what my parents said about it being dangerous, despite not understanding why (i unfortunately was not the smartest teenager and didn't understand chemicals being even more dangerous when combined) i just left it. now I'm older and understand why it's dangerous and I'm very glad that I both never had access to it and that my parents sat me down and explained that cleaning stuff is not safe for me to play with. i feel like things could've ended differently with my curiosity but I'm glad it didn't. im also very glad you're talking about this, if I saw this when I was a teen i bet i would've stopped considering it way earlier than I did.
Awesome comment. I love that, I'm so glad you were safe
