    I sell e-cards & animated e-cards in another store. In another store I sell photography as digital downloads. In another store I sell digital stamps. I also plan to do e-books and downloadable rhyming poetry. May do pages for homeschooling and coloring books too. I have all kinds of ideas flying around in my head.

      @Sunset1705 2 года назад +8

      Hi, question.. are all of your stores on Etsy or do you sell on other platforms? Also, you have several separate shops for each little niche? I’m trying to decide if I should niche down more or even up more, and also considering opening another shop with slightly different target audience.

    • @GrantGreetings
      @GrantGreetings 2 года назад +2

      @@Sunset1705 yes, I do have more than one Etsy shop. Also have eBay, Amazon, RedBubble, Zazzle. I design everything from products to digital, to cards to books. I highly believe you shouldn't put all your eggs in one basket. I have seen sites close and take all my hard work with them. It's discouraging. I stay busy and never get bored. Each of my Etsy stores specializes in something. I ran a woodworking Etsy store for 10 years but recently closed it due to declining sales and rising shipping costs.

    Trust me, selling digital items on etsy is a nightmare. My friend was selling for 5 years and a bunch of competitors kept reporting her. Actually, they were buying her items, reporting her and reselling her design. Etsy couldn't do anything about it and eventually, she closed her shop. And yes, she was making sales at first but after 2 or 3 months, it went down and not only her but I hear this story so many times.

    • @blairbelluci
      @blairbelluci Год назад +7

      Same for me.

    • @BillGraper
      @BillGraper Год назад +5

      How could they report her successfully? If she had her items listed already, and they were 100% hers, there is no way to prove otherwise. I have a bunch of copyrighted songs in the US copyright office. What if we protect our work that way before listing it online?

    • @1095MealsAYear
      @1095MealsAYear Год назад +13

      @@BillGraper 🤔That's how it works on Etsy. You can report anyone, Etsy doesn't really check who the owner is. If you don't believe me, you can try, and you will see it will work. Etsy doesn't want to be involved in this infringement stuff. You can report anyone now if you wish to, you will see it works, and that's the whole problem. You know what, I talked to some people about it because that is a known issue, and Etsy doesn't care, but if you want to protect yourself, the ONLY way is to get a lawyer so when you get reported, your lawyer will talk with Etsy, and then you are protected. Is it worth it? I guess so. Is it expensive a lot, and that's another reason why most people lose their work because they don't want to pay for a lawyer. After talking to my friend, she told me many people started to sell on their own websites. If you count your loss by fake reports vs lower sales on your website, you are winning to be your own boss. This is something people need to consider more because people think Etsy brings free traffic. While it's true, getting a flow of fake reports is the culprit on Etsy, and this is enough to make you bankrupt. My friend lost over 100K because of this. There is a large network in Vietnam doing fake reports. They have tons of phony accounts with credit cards. Enough to keep you busy with counter-notices instead of focusing on creating and selling on Etsy.

    Nice job with his video. Very natural and friendly approach. Unless I missed it a video on the top 5 or 10 of the most challenging issues you have run into selling digital goods on Etsy or even on other platforms would be so helpful. I hope your business is doing great.

    Hi Lauren, thank you for this video! I am still in the researching phase on the road to starting my own Etsy shop. I do have a question would it be okay to have digital products along with physical items listed? I really want to create digital planners but also physical planners. Idk I feel stuck should I just start with digital first?

      This may cause confusion with shoppers so make sure if you do both that it is clear what they are receiving.

      I would consider opening two different stores and selling one niche per store. One digital store and one for products

      Just a tip! Don’t get stuck in Analysis paralysis lol. I wanted to start a business and spent to much time thinking/ trying to make everything perfect. You’ve just got to jump in and figure things out as you go!

      @@jaydensiba8138 Thanks for this tip. I too feel as though I'm in that phase. I've been creating printables for our homeschool and when I taught pre-k. My 9 year old asked me why I didn't sell them online. But, there are so many things to learn right off the bat, that I feel I have hit a wall. Lauren, do you have videos for setting up your shop from scratch or how to create a nice mockup for a printable? I am having a hard time finding a mockup for kids schedule printables. Thanks!

    Great info and very good point at time mark 6.30ish Lauren. Can I add one thing about maybe helping people with shorter levels of patience to this please (I’m going to anyway 🙂)…it might help to remember that this frustrating person is trying to give you money, not go out of their way to annoy you. Also pretending you’re talking to the least tech savvy person you know and love, like a grandparent, might help. And, you know, just don’t be an arsehat basically.

    What happens if we upload our digital product on google drive and someone share the link ?
    Let's say we provide a pdf with the google drive link.

    Hey there! Great tips. Question for you - I have 100 products in the can, ready to go. Is it better to drop them all now? Or drip feed them into the system do you think? Over time. And if the answer is over time... duration? 100 days? 2 weeks? Mainly I'm posting them all, so that I can show value to buying 10 pack type bulk downloads. Why pay $50 for 10 individually when I can get them for $30 sort of thing. Anyway, love your thoughts.
