Steve Diggle !!!! His writing and singing style is so different from Pete Shelley's, but they both support each others' songs really well. This is a really nice live version of the song.
This was the track that made me buy the album when I heard it in HMV oxford st, 1978. Just fantastic. They had the best drummer, just apart from brilliant frontmen
This popped up among the suggested videos a few months ago and made me grab my guitar and play along, which brought up some nice childhood memories... the song features, if I remember correctly, the first guitar solo I ever learned to play...
what I love about music is how it transcends boundaries I was a kid in Liverpool and loved the bunnymen, teardrop, big in Japan, wah but I also loved all the Manchester bands at a time, still going on now unfortunately due to football I can't go to Manchester because if they hear my accent I'll probably get hammered and the same the other way round, the only place you feel welcome is music venues. everyone cares about the music and nout else. I was at spike island for the roses loved that Manchester sound late 80s early 90s as good as anything there's ever been. god bless you made from us music loving scousers😘😘😘😘
first saw this gig on itv in early 1990...forgot how many hunderds of times i've watched it since then!!!!!fell in love with buzzcocks then...best band ever!!! NOISE ANNOYS
Diggle at His finest!!! A great song and Steve was so underestimated. Pete was obviously the focus of the band, but when Steve hit gold, He his gold. Thanks for them all, Steve.
original line up: howard devoto (vocals), pete shelley (guitar), steve diggle (bass), john maher (drums). line from 1978 to the time of this gig (nov/dec '90), shelley (vocals lead guitar ), diggle (vocals rhythm guitar), steve "paddy" garvey (bass), maher (drums). shelley & diggle are the only members still with the band today.
@coeurley Bon nuit!! The VHS? thats a blast from the past!! Didnt Steve Diggle's guitar string break and hit him in that one??? or maybe i'd done too many substances....lol
I saw them at the 1979 Loch Lomond festival, along with the Stranglers, UK Subs and many others. Been to many gigs and festivals since but little has come close. Great days.
@@localresidentofgortonmarke8415 Your dad and I were very lucky to be 'youthful' at that time. The 70s was a unique decade. I think I took it a little for granted at the time but the range and variety of music was incredible. One of my most memorable gigs was when the Tubes played the Glasgow Apollo around the same time ('79 I think). Your dad might have been into them too. They had a stage presence you just had to stand and watch with your jaw on the floor. I just wish I could go back now and fill in some gaps - bands I'd have liked to have seen but didn't!
@@philwise872 Tubes were phenomenal. I saw them the same year in the Glasgow Apollo. About the only rock gig I've been to where everyone just stood transfixed, watching the stage. Rock theatre.
@herringfly been into the Tubes ever since I heard White Punks On Dope on the John Peel show circa 1976 Fee Waybill is up there with the best of the front men At the moment I'm playing Amnesia almost daily, which is ironic I suppose Hugh Cornwell loved the Tubes too
great --as a fan from the first time i heard the first (ua-single)orgasm addict in 77 .but they were formed may 1976 and disbanded 1981.. and really i don´t know if this reunion-gig came up to really buzzcocks-class..
I love how it starts off sounding like "Run to the Hills" and then the guitar riff sounds almost like "Enter Sandman"...lol I bet they used this song for "inspiration".
@ballsofun Yes. None of the original punks really liked the Clash as we remembered their previous pub-rock incarnation, the 101ers - who were dreadful. And Joe went to boarding school which hardly struck a chord with us 16 year olds at the time! The Buzzcocks were working class, loud, and bloody good fun! Although the Clash and the Pistols are remembered as original punks, we knew they weren't as 'real' as the Buzzcocks, or the also excellent Damned for that matter
can somebody explain why the Buzzcocks, the Jam, Roxy Music, Squeeze and ELO arent in the RR Hall of Fame? Oh yeah, Madonna and Run DMC were more influential in their rock music...
This is really not famous ! You can't even find it on youtube. You know, when offspring cover a song, this is exactly the same but a bit faster ! with dexter's voice^^
Steve Diggle !!!!
His writing and singing style is so different from Pete Shelley's, but they both support each others' songs really well.
This is a really nice live version of the song.
R.I.P. Pete farewell to a punk legend
This was the track that made me buy the album when I heard it in HMV oxford st, 1978. Just fantastic. They had the best drummer, just apart from brilliant frontmen
One of their best songs...still gets the crowd going nuts at gigs! I used sing “ I want u on top of me!” to Steve Garvey...my teenage crush 😍
OHMYGOD I FEEL YOU SO MUCH, I wish I was born earlier 😭 But i'd defo sing that to Steve Diggle, god back then he was just 😭❣❣❣ My music crush...
Talked Steve Diggle at the Camden Fest. Great chat, I asked about Howard Devoto..."He just reads books..."!
This popped up among the suggested videos a few months ago and made me grab my guitar and play along, which brought up some nice childhood memories... the song features, if I remember correctly, the first guitar solo I ever learned to play...
It was indeed in Germany. I've still got the VHS cassette. Brilliant gig. Never get tired listening to it.
Just saw them at the Boaty Weekender show, they were incredible. Did a great version of Autonomy. If they come around your area, go see them!
My favourite Buzzcocks tune. So awesome
After all those years...
still a f***g great song!
I still have the analog record ;-)

One of the bands I woefully regret never seeing live back in the day.
Fantastic..Thanks for the memories Buzzcocks..
wot was up w/ how he started singing like Peter Frampton toward the end? But hey, I'll take it; great song!
first time i've seen diggle using a ricky - nice sound too!
Diggle at His finest!!! A great song and Steve was so underestimated. Pete was obviously the focus of the band, but when Steve hit gold, He his gold. Thanks for them all, Steve.
2007, Buenos Aires, Argentina... They now play this TWICE as Fast and with more URGENCY! Wow!
@pointnozzleaway there are plenty of bootleg copies of the whole gig available on dvd , this whole gig was shown on tv 1989 filmed in nottingham
Yes brilliant, one of my alltime faves!
Love, love this band. Was fortunate to see them live a few months ago. Brilliant!
i love this band and i love 99 both great bands

Brilliant. I saw them in Coventry on this tour.
***** stars. Thanks for saving me the bother of uploading this DVD! URASTAR
Can't stop thinking to Iron Maiden's run to the hills for the first ten seconds!
at 0:25 it recals me another Iron Maiden song from the first album but I can't rememeber the name ATM ..
Wow! Yeah! It's so similar😱
Run to the Hills sound similar to this tune, yeah, they started as a quasi-punk band lol
@@andreamauri2118 maybe youre thinking about DRIFTER song, killers album though .
wish this whole show was on DVD .....somewhere !!
It's on this one. Cheers. www.discogs.com/The-Buzzcocks-The-Buzzcocks/master/355385

Steven Diggle played on a Ricky. Kudos level:EPIC
I like it! Great song!!!
Offspring cover it ^^ really good !!! buzzcocks are best !

OMG THE STRANGLERS? They are my two favourite bands. My dad saw buzzcocks live same year as you at Belleview stadium.

Great track
Quality lasts forever. Great.
that guitar is something else
oh now . . .
Begining part reminds me of Run To The Hills!
I would guess it was recorded somewhere in the former East Germany because that is the rhyme he makes at the end.
You can get it on DVD . scour the net...
I have an official copy
@ballsofun Yes. None of the original punks really liked the Clash as we remembered their previous pub-rock incarnation, the 101ers - who were dreadful. heh, I always thought it was "I want you, autonomy!" :)
@rwigram thank God he did. What a guitarist he is!!
@jherikurl o yea..can see that....!!! though the drums if i rememeber are slightly faster on the studio release rather then this live version!
I friggin' love this song
is there and "Orgasm Addict" video?
lol
it's a crime that these guys didn't get huge in the states.
I guess Harmony in My Head was 'his' only hit, but nog the only song he sung lead vocals to right? There's Running Free, for example?
Actually the first bassist was diggle. He switched to guitar after devoto left.
I dig the new slow dirge finish
Same here, classic b side to I don't mind.
Nottingham Rock City, about 1991.
@kinksboss1 Well, they are in *our* R&R Hall Of Fame is what counts, innit?
regarding inspiration: Groundhogs, ex Hogwash LP, "I love you Miss-O-Gyny" ...
love this song !!! covered by the offspring !
@rwigram What did Garth play then?
East Berlin. Steve Diggle says it during the song.
oh yea oh yea
i sow them twice in athens greece and the punk
Autonomy, On top o' me.
ar these all the original band members?
"They still have it"? This song was on their first LP
it is innit?
Thought so.
Maybe I was a little harsh.Love the guitar riff.
The offspring covered it !!! This song rules so !! Buzzcocks is one of best puk band ever !
wow

@joelholtzman Couldn't have put it better myself. Thanks man.
yep! I want you our tommy ! that will obviously be one of petes lyrics!!
RUN TO THE HILLS!!! Iron Maiden likes Buzzcocks too.
Buzzcocks. - Beatles meet Clash?
Ha ha too right. Iron Maiden etc are comedy bands.
FUCK YEAH! the best EVER!
Sounds better with Diggle on vocals. Top guitarist as well. Used to love Garth.
Offspring? You must be dizzy from your fruit rollups! This is the BUZZCOCKS!!!!
the intro is basicly stolen but slightly modified
@kinksboss1 that is messed up!!!
Last time I saw them Joe Strummer just died and they dedicated this song to him.
Brit Punk Rockers
*coughruntothehillscough*
i had the vid...think it was warrington
All of the Buzzcocks' live shows were in Warrington
Maybe not as edgy as before but, they still have it!
@nachowill95 Singles going steady and chronology :D
i love run to hills but i was disappointed to discover that iron maiden pretty much copied the drum part from this song.
I think New Order can nod towards this as an influence.
@sham64andahalf lulz
I think I prefer Diggle's voice
This is really not famous ! You can't even find it on youtube. You know, when offspring cover a song, this is exactly the same but a bit faster ! with dexter's voice^^
who fucking cares if they are in RR hall of fame or they dont. I really dont
