- The van build continues and I’ve been very busy painting and finishing off some of the little trim parts of the van. Now it’s time to start building the furniture and in this episode I build my fixed bed using the ikea bed slat hack.

Don’t forget to subscribe for more videos about CORNWALL and Falmouth I sometimes visit St Ives Cornwall and Padstow Cornwall too. Come here for everything from travel recommendations to beach reviews such as Perranporth Beach Cornwall. I also LOVE EXPLORING Cornwall’s coast line and the South West Coastal Path. Thank you for watching and commenting and liking the video.
I always use superglue to close up wounds instead of stitches. Works a treat.
Yea I was tempted
Ha ha 😂 👏
Me too - always super glue - it’s what hospitals use anyway, just be careful near things like eyes!
I was thinking the same at first, but OTOH, he is going to add a matress too, and by then he won't be too low anyway
When I can’t get to sleep, I just superglue my eyes closed and abracadabra, instant sleep 💤
Charlie is adorable!
Just turn the beam supports upside down the beam edge fits it perfect
It's all coming together nicely, pat yourself on the back from me ! 👍🏴👍
Cheers Phil
You can turn the bed brackets upside down and have it flush with the top of your wood, then use a penny washer screwed in at the top of the wood to hold the Ikea beam on.
@PhilStanbury would that be strong enough? All that pressure through one screw if I understand correctly
@@FFTuk The bracket would be upside down flush with your wood top, the beam would still be the right way up droping in from the top of the bracket, and the penny washer screwed on top would stop the beam jumping out the top.
Vans looking great 👍👍👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks you
Looking good , I’m the chap that said hello in b&q car park this morning lol , I knew I recognised the vivaro 😂
Nice to meet you today Richard
Looking really good Shaun doing a great job
Thank you
For the bed support brackets why not fold the bracket and mount on top save weight on frames or packing 👍
Good advice
came to say the same thing
Yea, thick metal, tho. So might have to put a cutting wheel on an angle grinder and cut a slit where you want it to bend.
@@DexterGoneWildor put it in a vice and smack it about a bit 😂
Excellent work Love Sunday's. 😍
It's that time of year to get cracking on this kind of work.
Loved Ewan Stevensons comment below - I almost fell of the chair laughting.
This is so professional. Darn those graphics are so good!!! That has taken time to perfect. 💯🤝👍👍👍
Have a nice Sunday from Paul & Kath GB 🤝👍
Thank you
looks sunny there... its dreary up here
I had a few days of sun probably should’ve install my max air fan
@@LoveSundays peeing down up here haha
Great videos, good drone work, very enjoyable to watch give him a like
Great vid! Loving your channel 😊 James.
Oh, the height of the slats will not be a problem, since you add a foam on top of the slats too.
And the IKEA metal slats are supposed to be locked togeter with a screw once adjusted to size, so they can't make the frame cave in.
Excellent suggestion
Well you just put my van to shame 😂 looking amazing.
Oh my days the van is looking fire dude well done such an epic job. Next time you are in Newquay drop us a message,👍👍
Great video mate , loads of progress. Tell your kids when their older , the scar was from a shark attack 😉
😂 🦈
Looking really good mate
Cheers
Looking slick . Youve really done well
Thank you
Oooh... my goodness Shaun.. glad it missed your eyes 🙏🥴. Hope it's healing well. All coming along great though isn't it 👌✌️💖
Thank you Sally
Looking great Shaun 🤟🤟
Thanks Mick
Amazing what a lick of paint can do... looks brilliant Mate! Did a proper job on yer nose and eyebrow too! 🤣
😂
well done, nice bit of work in todays vid
Thank you Glenda
Cracking video
Loved it. Don’t worry about the black felt, looking it, it breaks up the white and think it looks great. Well done mate looking really good 🤙🏻
Cheers mate
Nice one mate looking good init Charlie looked chuffed as well haha great build so far 😊
Charlie loves the van he just can’t tell me how much yet 😂
@@LoveSundays with that face he telling ya he loves his mum and dad too
This van is really shaping up and looking great. So sorry about the accident and so glad it didn’t come closer to the eye. Hope it leaks up quickly. Charlie is sure growing. It will be fun when he can join you in your travels.
Thanks Sally
Next time paint the full sheets of ply before cutting them. It’s much easier to paint the full sheets then give the a final coat when cut and fitted.
Really great progress Shaun - thanks for the sneak peek of Kate and Charlie loving your work too!
Cheers Tom
Those little bits of detail have taken the inside of the van to the next level
Thank you
It's look really good 👍
Thanks mate
Chicks dig scars and the van is looking great so win, win🤘
Thanks
Me too ..and saves hours on nhs waiting time too
Just come across your videos so this is prob a bit late and someone may have already said this but the brackets for the bars just turn them upside down and the bars will still go in and you can have it at the level you wanted.
Looking great Shaun, your van is coming along really well now.
Cheers mate
Love the safety boots 😂
😬
Looking good 😊
Thanks Julie
Loving these videos Shaun. It's great to see the progress of the van especially now that you have even greater constraints in terms of family life. I am looking forward to the next instalment keep them coming buddy. 😃
It’s getting there slowly but surely
Great video yet again you give really good advise .
Thanks Simon
Doing a sterling job buddy. I used the Ikea beams and mounted the brackets directly into the metal super structure using one of those big pop rivetty thingys! Cost about £40 sovs for the tool but I'm sure it will come in handy for other jobs too. Are you building your own kitchen unit or buying a ready made one? Later, hang loose, Sid x
Might go for an ikea kitchen Sid they’re cheap enough and at least I’ll alway be able to get stuff to fit in the drawers like organisers
@@LoveSundays Just the quality that worries me as they aren't meant for such an application really. I think I'll custom build my unit out of stout timber frame and clad it with mdf or ply not sure which yet. Keeping an eye on cost as everything is way more expensive now than a few years ago. 😒
Im slowly working my through the series so I know what im about to say is useless because you have already done your fix lol. but the metal ikea holders for the big metal bed beams you could have bent them over the wood and screws them in from the top. either way nice work on the van
looking good.
Thanks mate
Ouch that must have hurt but at least you know how you did it. I washed our carpets with our vax carpet cleaner and that night my ankle hurt (no idea why) the next morning I could barely walk with my swollen ankle. Its still painful and I have refused to go to hospital being as last time I was there 6 hours with my son we saw alsorts of people in A&E they were bleeding badly being sick, it was awful. I know people can't help being poorly but I'm really queezy. I was also pushed out of the way by a druggy running from the police. As you can imagine it's put me off hospitals. Hope your wounds heal very soon xx
Looking great 😊 Good work!
Thanks Torunn
So glad Charlie and Kate approves. (I,m not saying anything about your face) the van looks good already with its paint and floor and the bed area is fab
Thanks Ann
Great job looking good now it’s coming along nicely 👍
Thank you
Hi Shaun, done the ikea bed hack myself a while ago. I trick I learned was if you rotate the brackets 180degrees the frame fits flush with the top of wood . I just added a velcro strip onto the connecting peice to prevent any rattling as well . Great build though mate 👌
Great job! Makes want to get a van and convert it!
You should Chris. Or maybe one of those yellow school buses you get over there
@@LoveSundays not very stealthy
True
Great progress from last time I saw videos...day one of build.
It's always great when flooring goes down.
This van will be a fantastic family tourer.
Your little boy will also grow to Love Sundays. 🤗❤
It should be good when it’s finished
@@LoveSundays
It will be...100%. 👍
Superb as always ... well done.... you still not said when your doing my t5 lol
Lol
Proper job
Cheers Patrick
Hi. Shaun. It’s looking good mate all coming together nicely mate, and you have to have a few war wounds for you efforts mate.
Yea just think I’ll have that scar forever to remind me of the build 😂
@@LoveSundays yes you will but just make something up so it sounds more dramatic 😂😂
Looking good!
I always encourage people to do their own work! Not only does it build confidence, open up the possibilities for new employment, a new hobby, or just plain old fun.......... But, it also brings things into perspective as to why labor and material is so expensive.
Can't wait for this to be completed.
Thank you
I've seen a few builders where the ikea brackets are turned upside down so the beams sit higher and its worked without any issues
looking great shaun Ive had a similar accident as you did with the DeWalt except I was using a core drill without a clutch ouch x1000!!
As soon as it happened I thought that’s gunna bleed then blood dripped off my eyebrow and nose
Great vid “Hannibal”
Close but no cigar 😂
Your workmanship is really impressive and so are the videos.
Look forward to seeing the next one.
Wow really taking shape now, love the bed set up, talk about blood sweat and tears doing the job ! Hope your head gets better soon 👍
Cheers mate
With the brackets, could you bend them over by 90 degrees so that the screw hole mounting section is on top of the wood which then allows everything to move up?
Could do but the system I’ve made now allows me to remove most of the bed so if I ever need to transport a load of stuff I can just remove the whole bed
Wow, Shaun, the bed went in really well! You are doing such a lovely job on the van build. Thank you for showing us how you work it all out! Charlie approves 👍 🚍 looking forward to your nxt vlog rgds Alan
Thank you
Good progress Shaun keep going starting to look like a camper van
Those IKEA mounts and beams are awesome, good work
Thanks Harry
Love watching your videos Shaun. Just a normal bloke having a go at stuff 👍
Cheers Nigel
Progress looking good, can't wait to see new adventures in new setup. Your new scar will be a nice reminder of your journey 😉
Thank you
Love the inserts and the floor. War wounds are just a part of the build I suppose. I’ve even been inspired and made my own channel so thanks!
Blood sweat and tears in this van 😂
@@LoveSundays indeed but at least you have it how you designed it. It’ll be epic when done!
Impressive wood working, self taught? RUclips? Great progress ❤
My dad has taught me a lot but also RUclips
Absolutely amazing progress Shaun looking amazing 🤩
Good work Shaun! Enjoyed watching this…and seeing Kate and Charlie too! 😀
Watching your videos makes me wanna jump into the video and join. I love painting by the way. 😉 Paint can change so much! I renovated my hubbys' office. Feels soooo good when done and seeing the result. Unfortunately such a van convertion won't happen here I fear.
Charly has grown soooo much already.. 😱
You never know you may get a van that’s already converted and just needs a bit of paint to finish off
Looking good. Sorry you have a war wound from the drilling, that's always my worst nightmare. As for fitting the vinyl flooring I have seen many people use newspapers to make a template for the floor then cut the vinyl in their shed or loungeroom and it always seems to work out well and is really easy to do. Many have done it in caravans too.
Good progress made Shaun its going to be amazing when it's finished keep up the good work 👍
Thanks Nigel
i'm with you on the whole painting thing my pet hate!! and hey "chicks dig scars!"
Yea I hate it. If it was just one coat it would be fine
It's looking great Shaun. Good work. 👍
Cheers Colin
Really enjoying watching your progress!! Great job!!!
Thank you
Great video Shaun, the van's really coming together now!
Thanks
Loving the progress on your new van Shaun !! giving me the inspiration to get mine finished !! 👍👍
Another nice Sunday video, cheers bud. That bed looks ssssssolid! :)
Thanks Pete
Got to say mate it sure is coming together bit by bit and your camera editing is outstanding 🙏🏻🙏🏻. Can't wait for the next part 👏🏻
Thank you
The van is looking really good. It's given me inspiration to start my own van. Looking forward to the next video
Cheers Steve and best of luck with the van build if you decide to do it
Think it's about time for another camp out to try out the new bed, good work there sir!
100%
Proper job shaun 👍 enjoying the series. Glad to see your channel growing
Thanks Neil
No goggles and flip flops?! Really? 🤦🏻♂ffs. Anyway am loving the build 👍🏻The bed will be mint. Good to see the family approve 😄Brilliant times ahead.
Yea flip flops weren’t a great idea but that’s Cornwall for you
Van is looking fantastic mate 👌🏻
Great to see it coming along. Love the videos.
Thanks
Good work mate, coming along nicely!!!
Loving the build. I was dubious about just painting the ply but it's actually turned out really nice. I like the trim around the insets are a really nice touch too. Much better than just carpeting the whole wall like lots of people do.
My only critisim... You've got the pillows the wrong way! 😂 You should be able to open that side door and sit in bed looking out.
Yea it needs to be nice a bright in the van as there’s currently no windows and carpet would make it feel smaller inside
Put the beam brackets on upside down.
Coming together nicely!
Cheers Tim
Awesome work mate 👍 exciting stuff
Cheers Julian
loving it. thanks for the videos.
Glad you’re enjoying them Paul
It’s coming together great Shaun question could you bend the brackets to l shape it would then sit on top of the side beam making the metal level ? Just a thought 🤔 love your channel stay safe see you on the next one
Your ford transit van. Is a better size good vans, the back bone Britain, have fun love your vids
Coming along very nicely mate. Loving the finishing on your woodwork. Too many folk just leave it rough as toast these days. Looking forward to the next one already 👍
I know what you mean. It doesn’t take much to just sand the edges back
Looking good Shaun 😀
Thanks Geri
Your bed brackets couldn’t you have turn them upside down, looks great though 👍👍
I tried that but the slats wouldn’t slot in upside down
Looks awesome mate love watching your progress videos starting to look a home from home now mate, make sure you get those security cameras 😉
Cheers
Ah it always looks like so much more progress when the furniture starts going in coz its tedious insulating the van👊
Yea this is always my favourite part of the build
I’m currently editing my bed video and took a break to watch this. Looks like we’re going to be van twins 😂
Yours is coming together a lot quicker than mine 😂
Great build Shawn it's really coming along buddy 😂
Cheers Dave
@@LoveSundays your welcome next time be careful 🤣🤣
Looks really good mate 👍🏼👍🏼
Cheers Ricky
Great work and you can really see from now on its going to be all the "fun stuff" rather than the groundwork which is necessary but not so glamorous x do you have a date you expect to be finished ( summer?). Also I am guessing that there will be storage under the bed accessed from the van doors side?
I’m hoping it should be finished by End of June 🤞
Rather than cutting corners off a mattress, wouldn't it be simpler to get a shorter mattress and make make extra padding (memory foam?) for the inserts?
That’s a good idea but the mattress will need to be trimmed anyway due to the van walls not being square and the transit does taper at the rear
