Hey guys, hope you all enjoy another video on the van build. Buzzing to have a bed in which means I can start having some fun and adventuring around. COMMON ENGLAND 🏴, ITS COMING HOME!
Good job there mate, I cant wait again for another episode of stealth camping using that big boy XD. This means for another dog hill site camping for the new bed lmao.
Now I am tired of commenting
Bro we need more videos at least 2 videos per week please bro
You video's are amazing
Love from India
Yea, another van build. You did it! Got the base in exactly right! That looked a major project but you overcame it and did a really great job there Will. Nice one! Rog. 😀
Please upload more often !!
the perforated angle iron is "Dexion"
“It doesn’t look like a proper professional job” that’s because you’re not a professional mate, quit being so hard on yourself, you’re learning and doing a great job. If you achieve the end result, don’t worry about how you got there 👍🏻😎 build is going great!
MrMillsy83 didn't your mama teach your 🍑 as a child if don't have anything nice to say to or about anyone keep your 👄trap closed; its hard enough in life that grownups treat others like child so grow up and talk and treat others with the same respect like you want to be treated! God doesn't like how you belittle this man!
"It's a bit of a bodge, but I don't care because it's covered up anyway" - a man after my own heart!
haha love it
One of the most informative and detailed series of van build! I really like to watch your adventures in this area too. Please don't stop airing this show till it's ready!
Most sensible and light-weight bed construction in a van build that I've seen so far. Thank you!
When you are drilling or grinding in a van always use a magnet underneath to catch the swarf as it rusts really quick and treat the drilled areas with primer, if not you are inviting rust to start in hidden areas..
For this very reason I will not drill into the van, I do a workaround support up off the floor, having swarf in hidden places will induce rust where you can not treat
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who over-thinks it, tries it, doesn't go to plan, find a bodge solution and then cover it up! Bravo brother!!!
Awesome video!! I love the fact that you show REAL van life conversion. Not knowing how to use certain tools, getting hurt in the process, loosing pins, spending extra money, etc. That’s how it really happens when you venture into the unknown!!!
Thanks for sharing!
I love that you showed us the close up details of the fixing points. I've watched so many channels about this stuff but nobody has shown me how the holes, bolts and rivets work. Thanks.
Aw man, so good to see someone being honest about the many, many conundrums a ‘newbie’ encounters. Thank you 🙏 you are not alone!
Hahaaaaa the struggle. Thank you for posting! My van bed situation is totally different (low roof cargo van, low bed frame, twin mattress) but I feel ya on every sweaty stinging moment of working and re-working bed frame solutions. You earned this! Great job sticking with it ⚡
Mate that looks like a lot of work. Good on you for sticking with it. Love the details of each build bit you're putting in your videos.
Finally I’ve found a real dude who is actually doing it ALL himself. This is exactly the video thread I need.
This is extra awesome because your man tells where and what he got!! Fantastic!! 🙌
Appreciate it Lisa 👍👍
I agree. You frustrations and fails followed by success show it can be done by anyone if you persevere.
Wow, you have just solved a problem for me, or your Dad has, I have similar corner thick metal problem.
I’ve always said campervans are just ikea furniture on wheels- good man for proving this 👍
Ive watched loads of the Van bills none of them go in too was much detail as you do keep up the good work
Cheers James, glad I can give some useful information for once
Hi Will, the bed is looking awesome, the extending beams are a brilliant idea and it works with the width of the van.👍
I've seen thousand of videos and it happens this to be my favorite one! I love that you really show the real job and struggle doing all that. You really nailed it! ty for sharing.
This is brilliant for those who want to start their caravan journey with little resources. Cheers.
I like that you show your mistakes and thought process - really helpful!!
So great on here with everyone giving advice on all aspects of doing your own van. Well done everyone,a great community spirit👍👍👍❤️
"Its gunna be covered up anyway " That's my saying doing my build at the moment too. I'm with ya Will on the over thinking and so far it's like I'm spending more time thinking than doing
Awesome job! I wish that we had seen your video first! What a simple and clean support system for the bed. Thank you!
Wow, thanks for the great video. I was looking for a simple, yet strong way to put in a bed that I could quickly remove and reinstall as needed. What you did was clean, quick, and relatively inexpensive. I appreciate that you are also inexperienced and explain exactly what you did. I'm ordering parts now! Thanks again!
Hi Will, Im hoping to start a project like yours and after watching loads of other conversion videos, I always come back to yours coz you do it the way most of us would go about it, keep up the good work mate, videos are class
Hiya mate. Vans looking good!!
I’m an Electrician. I use drills & various other tools every day.
When drilling, it looks like you push quite hard? If you just let the the drill do the work, without as much pressure you MIGHT!!?? MIGHT find you snap less drill bits.
Also if the drill bit is getting hot, give it a minute to cool then carry on.
Hope you don’t mind me saying? Just trying to help. 👍🏼😊
haha not at all mate, I need the advice and tips to learn. I'm a bull in a china shop hah
Hey Jon! Thank You so much for that info. Your tips are helping more than just Will!!
@@jcrefasi1 Aw that’s great! I love to help people! I’m happy to help with any aspect. My main area of knowledge will be the electrics. 👍🏼
@@jonwarb good to know!! I'm sad to say my only area of expertise is limited to cooking! I have a 2016 Dodge Ram Promaster 1500 it's the American version of the Fiat Ducati that Will has. Covid put a hold on my build plans and I'm still trying to find someone here in Louisiana to help me build it out. I have had over a year to plan so I have my layout all figured out and a few things purchased.
I felt better knowing I'm not the only one who processes and over thinks the build. I just came back from testing my ikea bed. It worked great. I attached it to 1/2" x 3" plywood strip ribs to lift it high enough for grandbabes to sleep underneath (with fairy lights). Also by using 2 30" foam pads I can shrink bed to a cot size by piling one on the other and removing unused support. Or leave it to use it as a table.
Any ideas of how to level the bed when the van can't sit level?
Thanks
Absolutely love you, man! Just the beams I was looking for, and didn't know they existed. Cheap too! Gratitude!
No problem Robert, happy to help
I've been searching for the best way to put a bed in my van, you just blew my mind away. Thank you for sharing. Much Obliged.
Well done!! Those are good tools to have at all times. That’s a good solid bed and your van may have some additional rigidity in the back. Best of luck on the rest of the buildout.
Potentially the best video I've seen yet on camper vans. someone that has as much of an idea as i do and actually not skipping bits
I have been seriously waiting for this episode. Very nice stuff! Keep on building bro👌🏻👌🏻
Good work dude, I'm with you on having a little break, helps a lot with motivation. I don't know how you manage to record so much, I gave up after removing my interior. I might have to take a trip to IKEA!
Really enjoying this build Will. Liking the bare-boned reality (warts n all) of doing something for the first time. great stuff.
Always Always Always drill a small hole first then use self taping screws or bolts one M 8 would hold the weight and two self tappers to stop rotation . But your video's are great keep it up and don't loose heart Will.
Hi Will, Brilliant video; your cracking on with it, I bet it’s nice now with the bed installed, watch those brackets don’t bend, with too much pressure on them. Treat yourself to a night out, it clears your head for new ideas. All the best Will, love your videos every week. Take care, xxxx🚐✌️🤟🏼👍
thank you SO much for linking the bed beams. i've been looking for the name of these for ages!
Thanks so much for the part number and info on the brackets. I went to the returns dept of IKEA and got the 6 brackets and screws completely free. Yay!!! This video saved me!
What a Sunday evening this is going to be.. Takeout on way , beer cracked , your video popping up and and to top off , the boss gave me and the lads a day off tmoz.
It’s coming along great! You should be very proud of yourself!!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
cheers from Texas! Solid video and great job troubleshooting! Enjoyed the video
Loving the videos mate, i am learning a lot from them.
If i could give any advice back the way i would suggest adding some rubber washers between the bracket and the van or the bracket and the beam, this will help with moisture as the cold from outside the van can travel through the metals all the way to under your bed. Hope this makes sense! Also, when drilling start with a smaller drill (3-4mm) before going for your final size, this will save blunting the drills and protect you from slipping and hurting yourself.
Keep up the good work 👍
Forgot to say that you're doing a great job on your build.
Well done !
You're doing great! Thank you for showing everything, it's awesome to see
Looking good Will 👍
Have a look at some things called tek screws ... self drilling and SO useful for fixing to metal ..
Loved the music in this too 😁
Nice to see you listen to your Dad. Such a sweet word Dad, wish I could have had one. However I am a dad so its not too bad, just wish I had my own dad as you do.
Great video mate. After converting two vans now i feel your pain on how cost can spiral out of control on silly little bits to get jobs done haha. Absolutely love the ikea bed Beams they are awesome!! will defiantly use them on the next build. Most important thing i have found when converting a van is to keep a real close eye on the build weight. It's easy to get sucked into making a beautiful van inside but the weight can really add up and then so do the fuel bill costs for driving it around having adventures which is what we actually make them for, which i found out when i lived in my first van full time for two years.
Using the those bed beams and directly mounting them to the van chassis was a great way to save a lot of weight for sure. Good work!. Cheers dude.
Well done Will its coming along an absolute treat , really enjoying these vids , can't wait for the next one, very inspiring mate , be lucky 👍
cheers man appreciate it
I also found out about the IKEA solution when getting ready to head out to by materials for my own van. Seems super convenient! Regarding why people use a wooden board to secure the beams some (not all as many people simply copy what they see other people do without any thought on why) is that you can adjust the height of the bed and thus have a bigger or smaller garage for whatever you plan on fitting in there.
Hi will court your bed building vid and loved it , you keep on what your doing because it’s gonna help loads of People figure out there own van solutions.I’m going to subscribe & will go back and watch the early episodes , keep up the work your doing great. 😎
For the more than crappy internet connection I have from the company named FLOW for the last nearly 2 WEEKS WILL THIS HAS BEEN MARVELOUS TOO WATCH. Very Proffessional, straight to the point, full of information, REAL vid. Keep up. You do make me laugh. Now I remembered again, I am not alone.
And BTW: ☝🏾 YOU CANNOT, AND I REPEAT CAN NOOOOT SAY ANYMORE THAT YOU ARE POWERTOOLS OR OTHER TOOLS ILLITERATE. 😀😀😀😀😀
I am learning also.
THE best bed build I've ever seen and I'm a fan of van builds.......👏👏👏👏👏👏congratulations at least Ikea comes in handy sometimes 💅💅💅💅💅💅💅
Can't wait to see the final setup...💥💥💥
Big up from Mauritius 🇲🇺
Out of all of your van build videos I found this one the most informative. I had seen most of the vids and the camping trips and often wondered how you built the bed. When I start my build I want the bed to be in the same position as yours maybe slightly higher so I can get a bike underneath it. Like yourself I am pretty tall so need a wide van to be able to sleep sideways.
Will, buddy, after you've used a centre punch, drill a pilot hole first, and then step up in diameter, 1 or 2 mm at a time until you reach your target.
What you've done will almost certainly hold, so no bother, but just be sure to always drill a pilot hole first.
The step drill is handy for making holes bigger, but I'd stick to using that on your bracket if your mounting holes are a bit off, rather than using it on the wall of the van.
Great vid as always. Thank you for sharing.
Really enjoyed you showing g the screw ups! 1, means I'm not the only one! 2, perfect illustration as to what can go wrong. Have subscribed based on this video alone!
Hi Will. When drilling through metal sheet, slip a scrap piece of pipe over the drill to prevent it damaging anything on the other side...
Thanks so much for taking the time to film and share.
Mack and Maggie, Huddersfield
Omg, its like watching myself doing any kind of diy 😅 about to do this so, I'm so glad to have seen you go through it first 😂 thank you.
Brilliant, you save loads of weight and work, genius. Also, burnout is totally a thing, when it stops being fun, take a little break, you don’t want it becoming a chore. Thanks for the video buddy, well done 👍
Cracking job so far…baby steps and plenty of planning and drawing 👌
Tip when drilling holes, center punch, smaller drill bit, if needs be a bigger bit again, then finish with with step drill, been watching for a while now and your skills are really improving and you go into so much detail 🙏🏻, keep up the great videos my man
Loving these videos. The vans really getting there now. 🚐👍
Good job will. Keep it up. Your videos are very informative and interesting.
Well done will, she's getting there.🇬🇧🏆
The Best Van video so far... Great Job...
Great work Will, really enjoying your uploads. Thanks :)
That Reflectix on the wall is only good for keeping heat in. It's a RADIANT barrier only!
18:50 Finishes bed “I think its time to start having some fun in the van” haha love it vanlife! ❤️
Great bed system and your installation may have had one little set back but overall an excellent job!! I look forward to following your progress
The Electroboom of van builds! Thnaks for having the courage to show your mistakes.
I like to install my rivnuts with an impact driver. The tool is not really necessary.
Looks good and light!!!Cant wait to see the underbed storage
Haven’t had such a good laugh too n ages!!! You have great ideas. A new subscriber, looking forward to more of your videos
Youre doing brill Will. Every days a school day. Get some Stickaflex from Neil 😀 . Keep up the brill work youre doing brill
Thank you for the bed parts info, just ordered mine.
Well done 👍🏻 everything looking good in progress 🙌🏻🙌🏻☺️☺️☺️
Thank you!! 😊
Best van build series I've watched.... I've actually ordered and received my ikea brackets to install a bed. Funny thing is I don't even have a van yet.😂😂 great job mate.
We used the same beams in our van, although we had awful trouble with ikea in Ireland refusing to provide the wall brackets unless we showed receipts for the appropriate number of bed bases... Despite the fact we bought beams, slats and a mattress from them. Ended up using the METOD wall beam that they use in ikea kitchens. Worked like a charm.
Thank you so much for this comment! We're having the same trouble in Ireland. Appreciate you adding the details of what you used instead 😊
absolutely sensational. Dude this looks so much better than the 2x4 explosion i created. I am going to attempt this now
Brilliant idea. When I build my van will use this method 100%. 👌
Great to see someone making honest mistakes doing a good job. well done.
Got a step drill bit from aldi about 8 years ago and it’s still bang on with a lot of use
I've never seen this done before, what a crackin idea. Looks great
BRIALLIANT video! Was peeing myself with laughter. 😂😂😂😂 So happy for you to have overcome those challenges 😁
you made me laugh a ton of times with some of the stuff you say... its nice to see someone just being themselves and putting it out there. I am trying to work on that on my videos as well to just be natural and do what you would and say what you would if no one was watching. Going to do something similar on my next build. thank you for a great video.
Hi really enjoyed watching your video doing a really great job looking forward to seeing your next video keep safe 😷👍🏻
Yay, it worked for you! I like your authentic diy video! You van is very wide!
Good job!, I’ll now be using that system in my Iveco daily van conversion.
Great learning experience! Keep the videos coming!
This is the best idea to make a bed in a camper van without that ultra heavy wood structure Lots of free space 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
This looks like a really clever way yo mount a bed. Thanks Will!
Great stuff Will ! It's coming on great. Ps that bit when you caught your finger is called "Spanner Rash" 😉👍
haha it bloody hurt
This is the most entertaining van build I have seen
Yes, for those who wonder why buying completed van builds, it is custom expensive work. Things are a puzzle all the time. Great job!
Thanks so much for solving my bed project issue, I will be doing this in my van
Subscribed and Following from Sacramento,California
It's looks amazing😊 I will most definitely copy cat this idea.. thank you for sharing
This is seriously amazing, 10/10,
The reason people use a wood panel, at least in my country, is because as long as you don't modify the van you don't need to legally change it to a RV. With the wood panel you can use the holes and anchor points that are already in the van, if you drill new holes then you need to pass inspections do paperwork etc.
If you don't modify the structure anything you put inside is considered cargo and you can still use it legally as a van.
Stupid country then !
That's great tip for the bed, super lightweight and simple to do. I've just used the link to order the parts, except the brackets which are proving more difficult to get.
This is so very helpful. What a great idea. I'm going to do this!
I am in the middle of doing a build on exact van, i am putting a shower in, few tips if ya wanna use them... for hot water look at a bobil water heater, they work with chinese diesel heaters, and for a 12v pump buy a shurflo 7 liters a min pump. A shower tray with a hole in middle so water doesnt sit, plus your pipe work, pretty much it mate, easiest and cheapest way for a hot water shower buy far, keep up the good work, and ye your right it is expensive lol, i am 3 grand in and not done, got a good 240v victron solar kit though, that's another tip for ya, go with victron solar and get an mppt not a pwm solar charger. I watch all your videos so i will give any tips i can. 👌
Thank you for the valuable information, I just brought the same beams and will see what I can do on my Relay :)
Inspiration Will…… Just bought a Renault Traffic minibus type thing… looks clean and smart… plan is to use it to get the kids and me out cycling and kayaking more this Summer then do a mini van conversion…. Living the van life dream x
Simple solutions always the best 😊
