    When you are drilling or grinding in a van always use a magnet underneath to catch the swarf as it rusts really quick and treat the drilled areas with primer, if not you are inviting rust to start in hidden areas..

    • @kayak1100
      @kayak1100 5 месяцев назад +2

      For this very reason I will not drill into the van, I do a workaround support up off the floor, having swarf in hidden places will induce rust where you can not treat

    Hiya mate. Vans looking good!!
    I’m an Electrician. I use drills & various other tools every day.
    When drilling, it looks like you push quite hard? If you just let the the drill do the work, without as much pressure you MIGHT!!?? MIGHT find you snap less drill bits.
    Also if the drill bit is getting hot, give it a minute to cool then carry on.
    Hope you don’t mind me saying? Just trying to help. 👍🏼😊

Covid put a hold on my build plans and I'm still trying to find someone here in Louisiana to help me build it out. I have had over a year to plan so I have my layout all figured out and a few things purchased.

    • @dorriethomas6930
      @dorriethomas6930 3 года назад +2

      I felt better knowing I'm not the only one who processes and over thinks the build. I just came back from testing my ikea bed. It worked great. I attached it to 1/2" x 3" plywood strip ribs to lift it high enough for grandbabes to sleep underneath (with fairy lights). Also by using 2 30" foam pads I can shrink bed to a cot size by piling one on the other and removing unused support. Or leave it to use it as a table.
      Any ideas of how to level the bed when the van can't sit level?
      Thanks

    Loving the videos mate, i am learning a lot from them.
    If i could give any advice back the way i would suggest adding some rubber washers between the bracket and the van or the bracket and the beam, this will help with moisture as the cold from outside the van can travel through the metals all the way to under your bed. Hope this makes sense! Also, when drilling start with a smaller drill (3-4mm) before going for your final size, this will save blunting the drills and protect you from slipping and hurting yourself.
    Keep up the good work 👍

    Great video mate. After converting two vans now i feel your pain on how cost can spiral out of control on silly little bits to get jobs done haha. Absolutely love the ikea bed Beams they are awesome!! will defiantly use them on the next build. Most important thing i have found when converting a van is to keep a real close eye on the build weight. It's easy to get sucked into making a beautiful van inside but the weight can really add up and then so do the fuel bill costs for driving it around having adventures which is what we actually make them for, which i found out when i lived in my first van full time for two years.
    Using the those bed beams and directly mounting them to the van chassis was a great way to save a lot of weight for sure. Good work!. Cheers dude.

    I also found out about the IKEA solution when getting ready to head out to by materials for my own van. Seems super convenient! Regarding why people use a wooden board to secure the beams some (not all as many people simply copy what they see other people do without any thought on why) is that you can adjust the height of the bed and thus have a bigger or smaller garage for whatever you plan on fitting in there.

    Out of all of your van build videos I found this one the most informative. I had seen most of the vids and the camping trips and often wondered how you built the bed. When I start my build I want the bed to be in the same position as yours maybe slightly higher so I can get a bike underneath it. Like yourself I am pretty tall so need a wide van to be able to sleep sideways.

    Will, buddy, after you've used a centre punch, drill a pilot hole first, and then step up in diameter, 1 or 2 mm at a time until you reach your target.
    What you've done will almost certainly hold, so no bother, but just be sure to always drill a pilot hole first.
    The step drill is handy for making holes bigger, but I'd stick to using that on your bracket if your mounting holes are a bit off, rather than using it on the wall of the van.
    Great vid as always. Thank you for sharing.

    We used the same beams in our van, although we had awful trouble with ikea in Ireland refusing to provide the wall brackets unless we showed receipts for the appropriate number of bed bases... Despite the fact we bought beams, slats and a mattress from them. Ended up using the METOD wall beam that they use in ikea kitchens. Worked like a charm.

      Thank you so much for this comment! We're having the same trouble in Ireland. Appreciate you adding the details of what you used instead 😊

    you made me laugh a ton of times with some of the stuff you say... its nice to see someone just being themselves and putting it out there. I am trying to work on that on my videos as well to just be natural and do what you would and say what you would if no one was watching. Going to do something similar on my next build. thank you for a great video.

    This is the best idea to make a bed in a camper van without that ultra heavy wood structure Lots of free space 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

    The reason people use a wood panel, at least in my country, is because as long as you don't modify the van you don't need to legally change it to a RV. With the wood panel you can use the holes and anchor points that are already in the van, if you drill new holes then you need to pass inspections do paperwork etc.
    If you don't modify the structure anything you put inside is considered cargo and you can still use it legally as a van.

    That's great tip for the bed, super lightweight and simple to do. I've just used the link to order the parts, except the brackets which are proving more difficult to get.

    I am in the middle of doing a build on exact van, i am putting a shower in, few tips if ya wanna use them... for hot water look at a bobil water heater, they work with chinese diesel heaters, and for a 12v pump buy a shurflo 7 liters a min pump. A shower tray with a hole in middle so water doesnt sit, plus your pipe work, pretty much it mate, easiest and cheapest way for a hot water shower buy far, keep up the good work, and ye your right it is expensive lol, i am 3 grand in and not done, got a good 240v victron solar kit though, that's another tip for ya, go with victron solar and get an mppt not a pwm solar charger. I watch all your videos so i will give any tips i can. 👌
