Puppies should be cropped before 12 weeks. Each dog is different when it comes to posting. Depends on thickness of ear leather, the length of the crop. Safe bet would be to continue posting for at least 2 months after puppy is done teething. Just monitor the ears. If they begin to fall at all post them immediately
I'm so thankful to see a giant schnauzer video with ear posting. Currently going through this and I'm going to try your technique out. We started posting my giant schnauzer ears several days ago and the little guy just pulled them off. (That was using the paper towel method.) Now I'm gonna try the Backer Rod to see if it will hold better. Crazy pup. Lol He's doing great though.
As long as the dog is not shaking or scratching at them you can leave them on 3-4 days. If they get wet or pop out at the bottom take them down and re do.
@@skylinefay Thanks a lot! after 5 days that's it and no posting anymore? Or I should replace it and keep another 5 days? (and repeat the process?) Thanks a lot!
He's so well behaved esp for a pup.. at what age do you crop them and how long does one need the cropped ears posted? Thanks

You DON’T crop them!!!! It’s unnecessary and illegal in many countries, only America seems to be left behind the times!
@@mmkay3296you should be cropped at 12 weeks you imbecile!
Thank you for this vid! My 9 weeks giant wont stop moving, how are you able to have such a quiet puppy?
A grooming table is key.
This has been one of the more helpful videos I’ve seen and love that its specific to the giant. Thanks! Have any clipper recommendations?
Thank you for this great training video!
Wow that looks easier than i thought it would be. I was always scared i couldnt do it.this is a breed iam researching now to get in the future.
@@sharonburton9663 it does
Take practice. But once you get it it’s easy!

Good evening Ms. Fay I was wonder, do you have any puppies for sale?
I do not at this time.
what thickness of Backer rod do you use?
1/2”
What type is the white tape? I heard you say a name I haven't heard before
They don’t make this tape anymore. I use Hampton black tape now. It’s on Amazon.
Is it ok to use black medical grade tape instead of white?
This specific tape is approved to use

Great Video! What size crop is that?
Medium crop. Giants are not supposed to have long show crops.
@@skylinefay Ok thank you Tonilyn! 🤙
Why type of ear powder do you use?
My giant schnauzer is now 9 months old and only one ear has stayed up. How do you post just one ear? Any suggestions?
Roll up a paper towel and tape it together to make a stick. Stick in ear and post with tape. Worked for my Doberman
I have just taped the one ear, but it’s probably best to still tape both and brace them if the one is not standing at all.
Thank God we don't live in Europe.
Good Video!!
Whats the size of the baker rod?
1/2 inch
For how long do I leave it?
You could leave it around 5 days unless they pop out or there is any head shaking.

I have seen that also one of your dogs (big one?) has something similar on her/his ears. How does it work?
@@maciejmordal5042 oh no… this process happens at the least until teething ends and at the most up until 18 mos.
How do you take it off? Can you do a video on that?
Put a little bit of unisolve on a cotton pad, dab into tape a little at a time and just remove
@@elenayaguez8790 I’m making a new video and will show that as well.
Is this safe? I don’t want my baby upset with me.
It must be done by a qualified veterinarian.
You call it your 'baby' would you crop a human baby's ears and make it look like Spock? Disgusting practice....😢
Thanks god its forbidden in Europe.
You look familiar to Sara jay 🤣
Haha 😂
