I'm watching this on the day when our previous Giants would have turned 13 years old. It has been a rough morning. Our female gained her wings just after turning 11, our male (who was a once-in-a-lifetime dog, my #SoulPet) went to be with his sister this past February. We now have an 18 month old female. She has softened the blow. Tux made me smile. Congratulations on having the best breed on the planet!
I understand how you feel. Losing Kazi crushed me. I wasn't planning on getting a puppy for another few months, but fate put Tux in our lives a couple weeks ago and I feel like I'm finally getting over losing Kazi even though I still miss him a ton. It's fun having a dog with scruffy hair.
@@davidwindmueller6000 , I'm sharing this from a different channel I had with my previous 2 giants. Diezel, the male always helped me carry groceries in. We adopted his sister when she was 2 1/2. She never really caught on to helping with the groceries, but neither one of them were "trained" to do it in the first place. Diezel would also walk Dolly. He was amazing! ruclips.net/user/shortsK-wm9E59uGc?feature=share
Those are great dogs, and you will love him. I also want to offer condolences on the loss of your other dog. I had a Doberman, MANY years ago. Forty six, to be exact. That's when he was born anyhow. The pain of losing him after loving him so much was so great that I never got another dog again. The pain of saying goodbye wasn't worth it. Best of luck with your new family member. BTW, AWESOME property you have!!!!!!
I know what you feel. I still miss Kazi a great deal. Tux won't replace him, but Tux helped me heal a lot. Maybe you will meet a pup one day that you will let in. Thank you for your kind words. 🙂
Congratulations! We have a Giant, she is 3yo now, an amazing dog. I would say naturally incredibly protective of family and territory and lots of energy. Have fun with your pup, he is adorable.
We've only had Labradoodles, large 80 pounders & up. Great, hypoallergenic, smart, very family oriented. The Giant Schnauzer is next on our list! Well my list! Lol. The wife doesn't want one. She'll grow to love him!
Looks like a sweet boy. Hope you posted that naughty right ear. Melly had to be posted for almost a year before those ears would reliably stand. Enjoy your baby!!!!
Awesome. Not many people are familiar with this breed but we had one when I was a young kid. I used to skip school to take that guy for a walk and while the parents were furious, they were never concerned for my safety while I was out and about with Shnaci.
complimenti!!
Hey David, my 10yo Doberman passed away in 2020 due to DCM. When I saw your Kazi, tears welled up in my eyes as it reminded me so much of my Doberman. Currently, I have a 45-pound lapdog poodle, and I've also rescued a 5-6yo Doberman who has turned out to be the best dog I've ever had. Recently, I purchased a house with a bigger backyard, and I'm considering getting a Giant Schnauzer mainly because it's the only breed that can guard effectively and doesn't shed much. I wanted to express my gratitude for your video, and I'll definitely learn from your experiences before bringing one into my home.
Thank you for the kind words. I still get sad when seeing videos or pictures of Kazi. Getting Tux has certainly helped me get over the sadness and allowed me to move on. Training a puppy again has brought back a bunch of memories of when I was training Kazi as a pup, which I appreciate. Building a bond with Tux in the same way I built one with Kazi has been very rewarding. Best of luck with your GS!
Thank you for sharing your story. We lost our family dog which was a Boxer about 10 months ago. Our timing was very similar to yours. I wanted a large family dog, athletic, and protective. I reached out to a breeder, and they happened to have their last litter of Giant Schnauzer's. Chico is 7 months old now and we love the GS breed.
You made the right choice. The schnauzer is a great family dog. They are very protective, and freindly. Before mine passed she sleep on my kids. We want another one.
Thanks, Good info; was also considering a GS after the loss (Cancer) of our Cane Corso. My main concern with another Working Gaurd Dog breed is how the dog will handle my kids bringing friends over. Kids Ages 1, 3 & 4.
Having a family is why I looked at the Doberman or Giant Schnauzer as my main options this time around. They are both known for having an affinity for their family members as part of their breed description.
@patriotz3547 right now he's 13 weeks old so sometimes he gets a little too nippy for their taste. But he's learning to not be so mouthy as my kids spend more time exercising him before they play with him.
You just have to make sure they get socialized properly and understand boundaries with certain family members. Like with my GS she knows that she can be rough and tear my skin open, but with my wife and others she knows that she cannot. They are very protective naturally though. Generally they have a really good sense about people but you have to make sure you can have control over the situation and the dog. As far as mine goes she's also extremely energetic. It's the type of dog that will whine to come in the bathroom with you and then whine to get out, so they definitely need some training and room to run and play. As far as kids go they can be a little clumsy whenever it comes to their size and not knowing how big they actually are. I grew up with one and she used to drag me around the yard by my pant leg lol
Cool dog, congratulations. I was noticing that his back leg movement was a little strange while walking in the video. Have you got him checked for hip dysplasia?

@@rickstidham4391 That's amazing. We definitely plan on teaching Tux how to do that.
Good looking pup. I had a Mini Schnauzer and two Dobermans. I was thinking some day I’d like to get a Giant Schnauzer.

Yeah, he's clear
I am in Georgia as well and am looking to replace a miniature schnauzer with a giant or standard. Can you share the kennel that you used?
Elegy near Tampa, FL
Thanks for the video! Where did you get him from?
Elegy Kennels near Tampa.

Does the breed bark a lot? Or can you train them not to over-bark? I am thinking of a pup.
He barks a lot. It's not something I try to impede, but he will be quiet if I tell him to stop.
Thanks so much. They are adorable and smart…
How old was he in this video ?
