    We're on giant schnauzer #6 over 30 years and all have had cropped ears. Never liked all the things you had to do with the ears but they are such a different looking dog without cropped ears. Your technique is totally new to me.

    You can see that that dog is not happy at all. How sad he has to endure such torture.

    We are about to get our fist giant schnauzer puppy and didn't want to dock the ears is it possible you could post a video explaining ear training is it like cropping without surgery do you have to do this every so often or is it set for life those kinds of things ?

    • @fantaC100
      @fantaC100  Год назад +3

      Ear cropping is a surgical skill and reshapes the ear. Natural ears are meant to fold at the head and close to the cheek. Rarely have I seen a puppy try to lift its ears to standing. We train natural ears to lay down, never up. There are techniques for training natural ears. Look up boxers using some key words like training natural ears.

    What if you have a dog that just needs 1 ear to stand up? I have a great pyrenees and white shepherd mix that I rescued. She has 1 ear up and 1 ear down. I'm assuming it'd be easier to get her 1 ear to stand up instead of figuring out how to get her other ear to flop over.

      Maybe back tape the cardboard from a Tampax and insert into ear. Use sport tape (not pulled tight) and wrap ear around post. Snug the tape by crimping finished ear in your hand. Might look at some shepherd sites for more accurate methods.

      I’m only familiar with the Giant ear training methods. Possibly a collie person could give you advice.

    When its time to change it and how long do you suggest keeping them taped?

    • @fantaC100
      @fantaC100  4 месяца назад

      We change every 4-5 days. Around 5-6 mo if they are standing perfectly we let them go overnight. If not standing, resume taping. If still standing continue to go day by day and resume training the minute they need it.

    How long do you leave the ears taped this way

    • @fantaC100
      @fantaC100  2 года назад +1

      Approx 5-7 days as long as the tape isn’t causing sores. Remove it all, clean ear canals. Shave ears (if needed) air out an hour or 2 and re apply training. Most of my dogs are done with ear training anywhere from 5 mo-10 mo.

      We watched the breeder do the cropped ears and we removed when we needed. Now tonight we went to put the ears back up and she was fighting us so much! We had her on the grooming table and she just kept walking backward. We supported her from the back because case of this and involved treats so she can feel better and have positive association. How can we make her more comfortable when she is up on the table? (Our ss is 2 1/2 months) we just got her about a week and a half ago

    I have a giant schnauzer and I think this is so cruel and unnecessary, what is wrong with these humans who want to interfere with these beautiful dogs. Let's pin your ears with glue and foam and see how you like it.

    • @LittleMammoth69
      @LittleMammoth69 Год назад

      How would it be possible to post human ears though? Our ears are already erect.
      P.S. Dogs are not biologically meant to have floppy years. Floppy ears are a cause of domestication syndrome. I recommend looking into it because it is fairly interesting. By the way, there is nothing wrong with erect or floppy ears as it is a preference for a lot of people.

    • @LittleMammoth69

      You do realize that the US isn't the only place that legalized ear cropping and ear posting, right? There is plenty of other countries that legalized it as long as the procedure is preformed by a Certified and Licensed Veterinary Surgeon that specializes in ear cropping and ear posting. By the way, legality does not equal morality and making something illegal does not stop it from happening. I personally do not support backyard ear cropping due to the fact that the dog/puppy is not placed under anesthesia and is not given pain/discomfort management. I only support ear cropping preformed by veterinarians because the dog/puppy is under anesthesia and given pain/discomfort management.

      Well by NATURE canines have upright, erect, ears. It is through human selective intervention that domesticated dogs got droopy ears.......So if you are concerned with what is "natural" then they are making this dog more closely resemble a "natural" canine lol.

      @@gsp8489 That is right! There is no animal in nature that has a hanging ear. Hanging ears are a product of domestication.
