    I personally carry a rag in my trunk to not let one drop of gas touch my tank cause it eats the clear from what I've always been told. I know you said otherwise but I would recommend using a wet cloth with a mild degreaser and then perhaps a finish wipe with rubbing alcohol. I guess the rubbing alcohol is abrasive, but I feel like it's less abrasive than gasoline. Just my two cents

    • @DarthPeachy
      @DarthPeachy  4 года назад +1

      Perfectly reasonable comment and if that works for you then all good. In my own experience I've found that paint work on fuel tanks is generally more robust than you find elsewhere on the bike and a small amount of petrol on a clean rag does no harm at all.

    what exactly is the main purpose of putting a tank pad on the tank? other than for visual purposes.

    • @DarthPeachy
      @DarthPeachy  Год назад

      It stops wear and tear on the paint caused by grabbing the tank with your knees which over time can cause small spots of rust which could lead to a hole in your tank.

    question is, how do you apply a clear tank pad without getting dust and fingerprints behind it?

    • @DarthPeachy
      @DarthPeachy  9 лет назад

      With great care. Prep the application area first using rubbing alcohol and a soft clean cloth and just take your time with it.

    • @sheeky_
      @sheeky_ 9 лет назад

      Darth Peachy i tried that but it didnt line up in one go so i had to remove it then place it again and by then it had fingerprints and tiny residue behind it.

    • @DarthPeachy
      @DarthPeachy  9 лет назад

      The Gixxerman Its just time and care. Wear rubber gloves so you don't leave any finger prints on it, handle it carefully and if you prep the area properly before hand you wont get any grit on it.

      It's exactly the same. Make sure the surface of the tank is clean and free from any dust or grease. Line up your decal so you know exactly where to put it.

    Holly shit dude i thought you were Jamie Bestwick BMX vert rider. Good advice on the pad removal. Can will a heat gun give off to much heat to damage the paint?

    • @DarthPeachy
      @DarthPeachy  9 лет назад

      xavier415 lol I been compared to a lot of people in the past but that is a new one.. thank I think. Dude, don't use a heat gun unless you intend to prime and repsray your bike anyway. You want it just hot enough so that its not burning the back of your hand.

    Yeah I'll use goo gone before putting gas on my paint! Hey brake fluid works real good on paint and tire cleaner right? Lol and use tape with dental floss to find center. The waxed dental floss won't hold to the adhesive. Measure and center floss on gas cap then tape the top of the seat once you've found center. Place the tank pad with floss under the tank pad. Press the pad down and pull the floss and it slides right out.

    Does removing a tank pad leave behind scratches or marks?

    • @DarthPeachy
      @DarthPeachy  6 лет назад

      It shouldn't leave scratches. The only marks will be residue from the glue and where dirt has accumulated around the edges.

    lol I wish mine came off this easy. Days later I've got paint chips/flakes coming up as I take off the remaining excess "goo". Looks awful

    • @DarthPeachy
      @DarthPeachy  4 года назад

      I get a lot of stick for saying this but honestly there is nothing better for getting the goo off and protecting your paint agaisnt chips than just a little dab of petrol on a clean cloth. It removes all the excess glue and leaves your paint in immaculate condition. Once the glue is off you can buff the area immediately and the paint on your tank remains perfectly safe.

    • @CptSlow89
      @CptSlow89 3 года назад

      I will try with my OEM Kawasaki from 1996... Bike is 20+ years old, warm summers here and pad is intact. I doubt I can remove it just with a hair blower... I guess I will need to you some gasoline, alcohol or whatever and I hope I wont damage the paint.
