As I hobby, I programme MIDI covers of Dream Theater songs and often have to refer to these live videos for the drum parts, because online transcriptions miss a lot of the nuance and detail you put into the performances. This is an invaluable resource to have!

I remember seeing interviews with JLB from that time period talking about how he always wanted to do at least one broadway type show in his career so that check his box, and of course JP and JR are creative geniuses so my opinion is they thought let’s make the most bad ass rock opera ever done! Which honestly, if you don’t get lost in the goofy story, the music is legit bad ass.
It all Petrucci. He take over and force his Disney lame. he wrecked DT Self with Disney production and wreck Mangini drum feel and sound with amateur replacing. Then he take Portnoy on solo tour because why? His wife band. Yoko Ono. No ticket for me because he selfish boss they will avoid MM songs except lame Petrucci melody. Along for a ride, This is Life... etc No Pale Dot. You get Barstool probably. No Outcry. No Alien. 40th Anni and no Grammy song? Maybe I wrong. Will follow MM videos Instead.
All fans are greatfull for mangini and for sure the DT for having him to fill in while portnoy was out. It was always been different if mangini was the drummer there is just something in his playing that is unorthodox, different style in playing..i believe even with or without DT this guys mangini will stay as.one of the greatest of all time..he doesnt need a band he is more like a teacher than a performer..because if mangini is performing its like his teaching math and science at the same time..theres that genius in his playing..but in fairness to portnoy, when portnoy was still young he was also unstoppable, he became also at the top of the food chain at that time..for now just trust DT for reuniting again with portnoy its like the prodigal son is back at last.❤🙏
Sadly I think most of the fan base are just plebs who don’t understand what the hell is going on in any of Manginis amazing perfectly executed drum parts.
I know Mike wouldn't like this but I'm no longer following DT. I was literally about to ditch them when MP left.i was so over the same sounds on keys and the songs only had little gems in them. Also the same old drum chops over and over. TBF if MP would practice I'm sure he'd sound better and wouldn't have felt stale. MM gave me the fresh input I needed to stay interested in DT and I thank him immensely. It was a great run. Even the other day really listening with a headset to a song the musicality that MM put in the songs is unparalleled. He's is so very gifted and I thank God for his talent and the personality he has shown through everything. I found the new DT song as expected with same old chops and am sad to say in my book they're done. I'm sure they'll make some crackers but how can't they? Prob is like any art the older people get the less creative they are. It's the suprise of youth the wonder and excitement of life that inspires.
