  • Hello! I’m John Russell.
Let’s continue our exploration of common words, phrases, and questions.
In a previous lesson, we explored the expression “Thank you.”
Today, we will focus on how to respond to “Thank you.” The expression of interest is “You’re welcome.”
Let’s start with the last word: welcome.
We divide it into two syllables: wel- and come.
Each of these syllables has a different vowel sound.
The first syllable, wel- has this vowel sound:
    Repeat after me:
    e
    e
    e
Now we can include the consonant sounds into the syllable:
    Wel-
    Wel-
    Wel-
If you have trouble with the -l- sound, make sure that the tip of your tongue touches the top of your mouth just behind your teeth.
    l
    l
Now let’s go on to the second syllable. It has the neutral vowel sound. We say it like this:
    o
    o
    o
Now let’s include the consonant sounds:-come
    -come
    -come
We will now combine both syllables:
    Welcome
    Welcome
    Welcome
After all of this work, then the first part of the expression will seem much easier. Repeat after me:
    You’re
    You’re
    You’re
Now we are ready to say the entire expression together:
    You’re welcome
    You’re welcome
    You’re welcome
That’s all for today! Keep up the good work.
