  • Hello! I’m John Russell.
Let’s continue our exploration of common words, phrases, and questions.
In recent videos, we have paid careful attention to one useful question and one useful statement. The question is ‘Where are you from?’ and the statement is “I’m from...’ Be sure to watch those videos if you haven’t yet.
For today’s lesson, let’s do a pronunciation activity that involves saying sentences at an increasingly fast pace.
So, listen and repeat very slowly after me:
    Where are you from?
    I am from ….
    Where are you from?
    I am from.....
Now listen and repeat at a slightly faster pace:
    Where are you from?
    I am from.....
    Where are you from?
    I am from.....
Now let’s do this one more time at a fast pace:
    Where’re ya from?
    I’m from.....
    Where’re ya from?
    I’m from.....
We did three versions of our question and answer. The third version is how you might expect a native speaker to ask you about where you are from. It is important for you to understand this fast speech. But luckily, you do not need to produce the speech that quickly. Instead, I would recommend saying your questions and answers at a slower pace - much more like our second version in the video today. Let's listen again:
    Where are you from?
    I am from.....
    Where are you from?
    I am from.....
That's all for today! Keep up the good work.
