  • Welcome to the Voice of America’s News Words.
U.S. President Joe Biden recently signed a law forcing the sale of the app Tik Tok in the United States.
    LITIGATE
The U.S. government says the law targets concerns over national security. Tik Tok’s Chinese owner, ByteDance has filed litigation to block the new law, pointing to freedom of speech. Tik Tok will continue its operations in the U.S. while the case is being litigated.
To litigate is to settle a dispute in a court of law. TikTok is saying that it will seek to argue against the new law before a judge.
