The desk is a classic piece to all your work. The Lion King is so memorable to me and I always wonder who animated the Lions etc and then I learned it was you. Thanks for the incredible work
Eu não vejo a hora de o meu filho me ajudar fazer o meu desenho ganhar movimento. Ele também quer que eu faça isso. Me pede pra aprender inglês português pois há muito tutorial bom nessa língua melhor que o português Brasil.
That's what saddens me. It feels like people are all too quick to jump to a mouse or digital pen and pad vs. the old-school pencil and paper. The 80s and 90s were a time to be alive with animation. Now, it feels like a 10yr old kid with $50 can crank out a 5min animation just typing away a few strokes on a keyboard. I understand it's a progression of the times, but it kinda saddens me not to see the warmth and style of hand-drawn animation.
@@amanawolf9166 you're highly underestimating the level of dedication and skill and time it takes to animate. I too love the style and authenticness of traditional animation, but "a few strokes" and a 5 year old is unbelievably disrespectful to digital animators. Give a 5 year old 50 bucks and a note pad and it would still come out mediocre, bad even.
That is... Definitely not how digital animation works my dude. Even tweeting takes so much more effort than "a few keystrokes". Whether you do digital animation or traditional animation you still have to draw the parts and you still have to have them move and you still have to smooth things out and clean them up and all that. I've never been able to make something longer than a few seconds because a few minutes of footage is several days of effort for me or any other animator to put together, and that's even with all the freetime I have. Tweening, which is commonly used in animation meme communities and is widely seen as the "lazy" route still takes a lot of time. I have a short animation loop of a guy floating and it took me two days to put together. He's not moving in any complex way. He's just. Floating. I can't even begin to imagine how long it must take someone to do that for several different scenes in an animation meme. Christ, it's just the "digital art isn't real art" thing all over again. Neither medium is above the other. People will use what is available and comfortable for them.
I think Aaron has a thing for bears and it shows. Best looking animated bears in the business IMO. Must be why Brother Bear is in my top 5 Disney movies
No wonder traditional hand-drawn animation takes so long to make! It is a precise art-form. Not to say CGI animation is bad (I love it, too), but you cannot rush good 2D animation. Look at the details here! Very lovely. My hat off to you!
Traditional paper animation is incomparable to anything else; it transcends screens. A timeless piece for all of your work is the desk. I always wondered who animated the Lions and other characters in The Lion King, and then I found out it was you. Many thanks for your superb effort! You teach me a lot, man! I aspire to work as an animator.
Watching this makes me really regret working in retail for 15 years. I still draw all the time but man I always wonder what could have been. U are a true icon sir.
I wanted to learn animation and I just stumbled upon your channel. thank you for making me inspired with your work and I'll definitely be checking out your course's
I miss these hand-drawn animations and when paired with the background art, it's so beautiful. I have so much appreciation for the work artists have put into making our childhood memorable and imaginative.
I just reset my stats this year and half way through I discovered your channel. Massive skill boost and now I'm applying it to my day to day. Thank you for sharing these videos with us! it's really helping me out with my approach to drawing and animating. I spent a good 13 years of my life drawing only to put it down for music (HUGE REGRET). 15 years later I just randomly decided to pick the pen and pad back up and here I am now. Super inspired by your work!!!
Hey Aaron! Thanks for the content!! I still have a drawing by your brother of Frollo which he did for me when I was going to Ringling in the '90s. I graduated with my BFA in Illustration in '99, around when traditional animation started to go out of fashion. I was lucky enough to meet many of your colleagues including Glenn and Mark. Good times!
I draw since I'm 3 and never stopped, I love this animation style, where u put all ur heart in it, drawing the tiniest hair flowing in the wind. Brother bear, lion king and beauty and the beast where my absolut fav movies as kid, (and spirit stallion of the cimarron) I still can't decide which I like more, also today these movies are really inspiring and I love to watch how they drawed each frame. I think they where the first movies I can remember I watched and never stopped loving, still really enjoy to watching today.
It’s so cool that Aaron was taught by GLEN KEANE and he’s chosen to carry on teaching others what he learnt. Being taught to animate by Glen Keane is equal to learning to animate by Aaron Blaise to me and I hope it can continue like that :)
Hey Aaron. I met you once long ago. My uncle was Pres R....I'm glad I found this video. He used to scetch on his drawing table all the time. Great video.
YES, I was shocked when he mentioned Wolf Walkers. I came across a clip of it on RUclips and it shocked me to the CORE. Such a great and beautiful looking movie.
Thank you so much for sharing this- I love this type of art- it is fascinating- you are truly inspiring- there’s so much to learn- so many wonderful ideas-we do need some beauty in the world- glad you use this technique- everything you do has such an energy captured in your drawings and it really shows how you enjoy it-
HI SIR. THANKS FOR YOUR RUclips VIDEOS ON MAKING ANIMATION. EVER SINCE I WAS A LITTLE BOY I AND MY COUSIN START DRAWING ON A PITCH ROAD 🛣️ MY FATHER AND MY MOTHER FATHER BUILT THE PITCH ROAD. DRAWING IS MY FIRST TRADE I LEARN BEFORE OTHER SKILLS. STILL I DO SOME DRAWING ON MY SPHERE TIME. I ALWAYS LIKE TRADITIONAL MANUAL DRAWING MORE THAN COMPUTER. I'M AN ANTIQUE GUY 😁😃. I MORE LIKE THE OLD SCHOOL WAY. TAKE CARE. GOD BLESS YOU. 🙏
Oh man, I just found this video. I love all of your 2D paper videos. They’re really inspiring to me. I learn something new in each video. I just started learning 2D traditional to paper a little less than six months ago. Do you think you’ll be doing some art in public? Maybe at Disney? If so I’m a custodian at DAK. It would be cool to see you do something at Rafiki’s Conservation Station.
A lot of people can’t afford college and stuff like this helps people to do what they want and be able to get into it without actually going to a school for that. Whether it’s college or high school.
I ususaly watch 10 minutes videos and get bored easily. I watched this whole video for more than 1 hour and enjoyed it a lot. Very interesting video from a very interesting person. Well done.
It's sad to say that I just found out about you and this channel just recently. Brother Bear is my favorite Disney movie, so much so that in much of my digital "persona" (like as character name on my games), I use the name "Kinai" (I know, i know. 😊 It's supposed to be spelled as "Kenai".) And my dog (a golden retreiver that is so much like Kenai in color) is named Koda. I guess what I want to say is..Thank You! For giving life to a character that I really love and is a big part of my life. 🐻🧸
Hello Mr. Blaise, animation isn't similar to how it was back then. To be quite frank, I personally believe that computer animation is taking shortcuts when it comes to a matter such as this.
I missed this, but I'm watching the replay. When I use B pencils especially up to 6B I get a lot of SHINE. Any recommendation on prevention. Your 10B pencils don't seem to have a lot of shine. is this quality of brand or the fact that you're a professional and can use the pencil better?
Thank you for the video. This is so cool. I heard it is really hard to get in the animation studio like Disney nowadays. It is always amuses me how the most talented artists don't know much about pencils, but who cares. I am trying to be like that too. Some people just caught on know everything about materials but not the drawing itself. I believe student pencils are HB. B stands for black and H stands for hard.
Hi Aaron Blaise, how are you? I love your channel, I learn a lot. I need a tip, I can't find a website to buy this frame-by-frame animation disc, so I'll have to make mine out of wood... can you tell me the measurements??
