As a 35 year, American fan of F1, living on the West Coast, I was so excited when this race was announced. I was so ready to get my tickets and book my travel, right up until the prices were announced and all the tickets were bought by the hotels. My excitement immediately turned to frustration and realization that the event was not financially viable. Now, it just makes me mad. I'm glad that more people are interested in the sport I love, but these types of events are just not sustainable and definitely not for people like me. I do appreciate the cameo of the DeLorean at 8:32.
Absolutely right. Who are these people that can afford to attend races? There's no incentive for them to drop prices while they're selling out every race. Sucks for us. I haven't been to a race since '98 Montréal when a ticket was $75 if I can remember correctly. Keep the faith
Agreed!! Miami and Vegas are straight money grabs, as if the sport and/or FIA need more money. Those races are for the sponsors and the wealthy and are kind of just embarrassing spectacles outside the race itself. 😩 At least we have Austin!
I can totally relate to your level of frustration. I'm a fan of F1 and have been for years also, unfortunately what we're seeing is the sport being turned into a spectacle where being there is more important that what actually happens "there". Sure, i'll watch the race on TV, and i'm sure it'll be a heck of a show, but my sincere hope is that there isn't a repeat of some of the American cringy behavior put on display like what we saw at Miami for the world to see. What's "cringy" Hip hop stars with zero motorsport credibility introducing F1 drivers complete with race/nationality emphasis.
At 8:32 there was a DeLorean which is the Time Machine from Back to The Future.. very rare and don’t see many of them around.. sooo cool to have captured that in the video 🙏👍
Pretty much true of every race on the calendar with a very few exceptions like Hungary. For North America Montreal and Mexico City would probably be cheaper than any of the US races.
Great video on the build up to the race. I’ve read that the word “paddock “ will not be used at this race as the sniper/killer from a few years ago was named Paddock and they don’t want the association.
I love watching the actual end - always a funny out-take or fumble. Hard to believe that all of the setup work will be done in time. Thanks for the track walk.
I was there about a month ago and yes, the construction was an absolute nightmare to deal with. It's already kind of a pain in the ass to walk the strip now it's nearly an impossibility.
Another terrific video. You are right about the price of strip hotel rooms dropping. Caesar’s is down to the $600s per night, the Hilton Resorts World is down to the $500. The Nobu Hotel is down to the $900. Months ago these prices were several times that.
I just booked Caesars for 401 a night a few minutes ago. We originally had an Airbnb about 20 miles from the strip. After realizing it will take 40 minutes to get to the strip by Uber WITHOUT insane F1 traffic, we decided to do this instead after watching this video and hearing him talk about Paris. There are still some rooms left for that price
Maybe he meant afternoon in Australia? I was doing the math and yea, it didn’t quite match. Vegas is 9 hours behind Amsterdam, for example. It is a bad schedule for the US! Why couldn’t the race be at 8 pm? It’s dark by then in November. I guess I’ll just watch the recording or recaps the next day.
@@MichelleWalterdoesArt Well, probably because then it would be in the middle of the night in Europe then. They likely did not want that (although it is the normal time for viewers in the US for European daytime races, so why not the reverse??)
Well of course but they should make it back multiple times over. They already have a contract for multiple years for the track and the city will be able to pull so much in taxes from the insanely wealthy and upper middle class that will be spending money in that one weekend. And if it goes really well they could become a staple spot and even get other series to race there.
As an east coast F1 fan in the US, the times for everything are terrible. Qualifying at 3am. The race at 1:30am. I won't be able to stay awake that late to watch the race unfortunately. I'll be finding out the results in the morning when I wake up, and then watching the replay. It's not really great for the US fans, and that's why the Las Vegas GP was set up (to bring in more US fans). And the ridiculous pricing just to go. It's over $2000 USD for a 3-day general admission pass, plus whatever it costs just to stay in a hotel, plus airfare, plus costs for renting a car or taking an Uber, and whatever the food/drink costs are as well. I can't justify spending $5000 just to watch an F1 race live from some bleachers! That's just crazy!
I’m in Atlanta and I’ll be up and watching just like Singapore and Australia (IIRC)! I love this time for a race. Have a party, have some food, have some drinks(if you want) Then have a race! What’s not to love!! Music, F1, Vibes. ❤️🏎️💨
As a local and an F1 fan, the juice better be worth the squeeze. It has been absolute hell getting around the strip corridor and adjacent streets for months. If anyone can screw it up, Las Vegas will give it a shot. It will look awesome on a TV screen but in person will be hell. Pack your patience.
Really great video Kym , thanks for the track tour ! I was there 8 weeks ago , made a lot of headway towards the final push to race weekend ! Can’t wait to see the cars on track ! And looking forward to you being the man on the ground for more content . Cheers mate
Kym, I live in Ohio, which is the same time zone as New York & Montreal, and the Las Vegas GP will start at 1am, the same time as the Australian GP & Japanese are at. I understand the desire of drawing in the European audience and of the lure of the Vegas strip at night, but I have my doubts of how successful the race will be here due to the very late time slot. I personally do not think I will stay up until nearly 3am to watch an entire race in my country
Thanks for the awesome amount of info about the preparation for Vegas F1. I cannot wait to see the race but I can also understand the feelings of the locals impacted by the race weekend.
I've always been in the camp 'singapore, baku and monaco do it all the time', but now I understand why a lot of people have been complaining about the race in vegas.
I live in Vegas, i also love F1. Having said that, this has been an absolute nightmare for a lot of people here. I am looking forward to the race but i really hope they can find a way to mitigate the disruption for future races.
Qualifying and the race are at 6am in England, nowhere near afternoon in Europe 🙈 P1 & P3 are at 2.30am and P2 is also at 6am. Australia makes out like a bandit for LV GP timings.
Great overview! Really looking forward to it. I really wish they had kept the exorbitant costs to the glitz and glamour stuff like paddock pass. I was super disappointed by the pricing early-on. Even if hotel and ticket prices slowly drop as they attempt to fill last minute, its just difficult to plan entire trips in that window. So ideally I hope they just learn the value of selling-out all rooms and seats is far better than the "prestige" of luxury pricing.
Try Boulder City Municipal Airport. Or just inside CA, Kingston Ranch Airport. Turning Las Vegas into a street circuit is really something. I was sleeping in the back of a motorhome at night, mostly, when I first went thru Vegas. When downtown was IT, back in the 70's.
There's more to the timing issue than just the fact its 3am in NY. In Nov temperatures in LV are typically around the low 20s C which is great for racing in the day. But, being a desert, temps at night can be as low as 0 C, which means the drivers could be in for a pretty frosty ride by the time they get on track.
I live in Scottsdale (very similar climate) and have had the misfortune of having to go to Vegas many times in November for conferences. It’ll be in the mid to upper 50s maybe upper 40s Fahrenheit come race time. Probably warmer being that the city is a heat island with all the buildings and pavement. 0/32 is crazy talk from someone who hasn’t been to a desert city in the winter.
Thanks for the video Kym, it's fascinating to see and I'll be very curious to see what last minute tasks remaining in the week leading up to the event... on that note, I'm 41, middle to upper income earner and been an F1 fan since I was 3-4 years old. I'm flying to Las Vegas, from New Zealand, on the 11th November and will be flying out at 8am on the Thursday, the start of the event. It's going to kill me doing so, but the ticket prices for 3 days are obscene and frankly, spectating will be pretty terrible at such a flat venue with buildings everywhere. Hotel prices were completely out of control at the time I was booking my trip for work, so that was the nail in the coffin. The greed is strong in F1 for this race, for that reason, I'm sad to say, that I hope it fails. Suzuka's approach is the way it should be for the fans, reasonable and fair pricing for families, which supports the next generation of fans and F1 employees. Las Vegas will always be a more pricey option, but this has been taken way too far.
Somebody has to pay for all of that goodness. As much as we would like them to be, all the F1 races won't be affordable for many and some, like LV, are in the stratosphere, which is OK by me because we can have a single spectacle F1 event like this each year. It will boost the number of F1 fans and that can only be good.
We were there last month. It was a big mess, we wondered if everything will be ready on time. However, we saw literally thousands of workers finishing their shifts, hence big traffic jams to let them cross the road. I can't wait to see the finished product!
We were just there last week, and traffic was a disaster. Our Uber driver, on the way to the Sphere, said they will just randomly close streets to do work. Zero warning. Was also kind of shitty that the Volcano at Mirage was closed, and the fountains at Bellagio are completely inaccessible from the front., have to watch the show from a limited side view.
Dude! 00:00 @ Las Vegas is so not middle of the afternoon in Europe. It’s 07:00 in the UK and 08:00 CET. So the race especially is very early. But I am not complaining as the rest of the USA usually has those times for most races in the middle east and asia and early mornings for most of Europe.
@@marciabigg469 only is a thing if we’re out of sync in that weekend. Since Europe and US can be different by a week. Europe switches 29th of October US switches 5th of November Race is 19th of November so we’re all in sync by then. So time difference is 9h to CET and 8h GMT. I made a mistake in initial comment. Thought it was central time in US. Race is 07:00 CET so 06:00 GMT on Sunday and 22:00 on Saturday local time.
People say the racing won’t be very good but we have yet to see the track in action, either way, it will be a beautiful venue with all the lights I’m excited to see them race under the lights (on TV of course)
I think this race is going to be better than people think. A lot of F1 fans have a preconceived negative view about it just because it's the third race in the United States. I think the track is going to be just like Monza, long straights, high speed, a few chicanes. And honestly, I think TV is the best place to watch it. Sure it would be cool to be there live, but you're not going to get the beautiful aerial shots and panoramic shots that you would get on TV. Like any other live sporting event, you go for the experience, not for the views. At the very least it can't be as bad Monaco. That track has consistently produced the worst race of the season year after year for the past decade, and the only thing that can help it is rain.
At those expensive VIP areas above the pit lane some idiot will drop something below. It could be a cup with drinks, trash or some ice from their cups. Anyway, love these videos showing areas I could never afford to sit in Vegas and back in Miami.
Prices are dropping for rooms during the race but increasing for CES2024. I'm not happy about the latter. And you're spot on regarding your description of Koval Lane. May Tupaq Shakur rest in peace.
Interesting choice to do F1 in Vegas..hotel booking and flights empty.. so they are doing deep room discounts with race package just to fill hotels..Bigger question is will Lance Stroll last until November
Few places know how to waste money and resources like Las Vegas, and they seem to be right on Olympic level spending. All this for a few hours of racing, not even a two week event like the Olympics, though. Las Vegas has homeless people that live in underground tunnels and a surge of immigrants lately, yet all this is being built. Thanks for the update, Kym!
I’m here now Vegas streets are a nightmare. This race is going to go down as the most expensive race in Motorsport history. Hotels on the strip are already price gouging.
@@barryomahony4983 Vegas normal prices are $10 for a beer $6 for a coffee, $20 for a cheeseburger. Thats year round, once the race weekend comes that will all go up. They are already charging $110 for a regular f1 shirt in Aria, Bellagio, and Ceasars.
I’m a Las Vegas local for 20+ years, and this has been a horrible traffic nightmare. I personnaly never watched a F1 race but to block the local sidewalks with drapes so the local pedestrians cant watch, and black out the the glass is not fair for them. Lots of the locals here are on a low income budget and to take that from them is kind of a spit in the face. Don’t they want to gain fans and not lose? Every local that lives within 3-5 miles should be compinsated or given free tickets. Thoughts? (Just being honest)
While supporting locals is ideal, the truth of the matter is that the marketing behind this project is targeted to an international audience. Vegas has such a massive pull that an event like this will pay itself off in dividends from global tourism regardless of how they treat the locals. They are looking for big spenders to come in, stay in the hotels and splash out at the casinos and restaurants on the strip. Supporting the local populous is just a nice to have.
Yeah, it doesn't make sense to block views from people on the sidewalks. I'm not even a fan, but it would be cool to catch an eyeful for a few laps, and then move on with the rest of my day/evening. They're not losing anything b/c I wasn't going to buy a ticket anyway.
Funny.. I always hear "locals never go to the strip"… Now all of a sudden "locals are so annoyed by f1 on the strip, you can't go anywhere blah blah blah". Pick a struggle.
I was in Vegas recently and I was thinking how cool that I'm literally walking on the strip where my favorite drivers will be zooming down in just a month. Sad I can't make the actual race though but I will definitely enjoy tuning in from the comfort of my home :) Probably more comfortable and cost-effective anyways.
Fantastic videoos you make Kym....about the track and event held, its a pity its only for the Elite...its good we have a huge TV with very fast internet and a nice source to watch for free.
I was down there this weekend, what a sh*t show the strip is. The race better be worth it for all the hassle it has been. I will say, the actual strip/track itself looks really nice
That track looks boring and the prices are ridiculous. This race is made for all the rich non-F1 fans to go a socialize with each other without watching a single second of the race.

@@marciabigg469 only is a thing if we’re out of sync in that weekend. Since Europe and US can be different by a week.
Europe switches 29th of October
US switches 5th of November
Race is 19th of November so we’re all in sync by then. So time difference is 9h to CET and 8h GMT. I made a mistake in initial comment. Thought it was central time in US.
Race is 07:00 CET so 06:00 GMT on Sunday and 22:00 on Saturday local time.
Thanks for the tour Kym-amazing! 🏁
I don’t think the racing will be very good. It’s a boring track and tires are going to be ice cold.
Heading over there soon! Can’t wait
At those expensive VIP areas above the pit lane some idiot will drop something below. It could be a cup with drinks, trash or some ice from their cups. Anyway, love these videos showing areas I could never afford to sit in Vegas and back in Miami.
@davidpike1307 I'm American. I know our rich idiots and it's Las Vegas.
Thank you so much for this. I’ve been wondering what it’s looking like so far❤
Prices are dropping for rooms during the race but increasing for CES2024. I'm not happy about the latter. And you're spot on regarding your description of Koval Lane. May Tupaq Shakur rest in peace.
@kym illman… by far the best tour and explanation. Hope you get some spectacular pictures to share. Cheers
Interesting choice to do F1 in Vegas..hotel booking and flights empty.. so they are doing deep room discounts with race package just to fill hotels..Bigger question is will Lance Stroll last until November
hahaha the last bit of your comment got me
Lol what a comment
This is the best video I’ve seen on the track. Great work piecing it together, I’m sure this video was a lot of work!
Wow, thank you!
Usually putting the taxpayers on the hook for a major chunk of the cost . The raiders stadium being an example .
You do realize several street tracks undergo the same construction, then demolition each race?
But yeah I agree about Vegas
well, they might have a couple extra tunnels to live under when it's done
There are no state taxes in Las Vegas...
No state INCOME tax in Nevada but they tax or add a "fee" to everything else . @@ihvtework
What an insane amount of work...
I’m here now Vegas streets are a nightmare. This race is going to go down as the most expensive race in Motorsport history. Hotels on the strip are already price gouging.
Right, no other circuit with hotels on the track does price gouging. 🙃 Cough, cough, Monaco, Silverstone, Cough.
First time seeing one of your videos. Very good.
Thanks and welcome
This goes on in every F1 race city.
Kym, superb video.
Thank you for this awesome track presentation.
Kym didn’t receive the memo asking people not to use the word ‘paddock’ in relation to the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Doesn't know the details of the pew pew event from recent history in Vegas. For this GP, just call it pit plane
What an amazing presentation!! Big interest for an engineer. Thanks so much.
Another great presentation as usual Kym, thanks!
Thanks again!
Fantastic videoos you make Kym....about the track and event held, its a pity its only for the Elite...its good we have a huge TV with very fast internet and a nice source to watch for free.
thank you for being there Kim.
I was down there this weekend, what a sh*t show the strip is. The race better be worth it for all the hassle it has been. I will say, the actual strip/track itself looks really nice
glad to see there are dividers separating the urinals
This looks good but the concern is will this be a good circuit as the hype built according to it we will see
ignore the hype, go in with 0 expectations and you are never disappointed
Kym this video looks like it took a a lot of effort to create...great job. More thorough than any others I've seen thus far.
Wow, thank you!
The race start is scheduled for 6am in Ireland and UK on Sunday morning so not an afternoon race for Europe
he said Qualifying
So 8am for quali.
Once again, quality update. Thanks Kym.
If you want to peak American interest, then let Andretti racing in.
Nice work! Definitely the best fan made F1 content out there for me👍🏻
Wow, thanks!
It will not be call a paddock for the vegas gp, due to an incident a few years ago It will be called the pit building
DeLorean at 8:32. great behind the scenes look. i entered a few giveaways i found. my only chance of being there ha.
That track looks boring and the prices are ridiculous. This race is made for all the rich non-F1 fans to go a socialize with each other without watching a single second of the race.
I got tickets right at the main grandstands near turn 1! Can't wait for F1 to come to Vegas!
Thanks for the contact. I think it’s so expensive because it’s the inaugural race. Prices will go down in future.
8:32 Nice Delorean :)
Thanks for your Awesome work Kym!
Wow, at 8:30 there is a DeLoran. Very cool.
Excellent production value! Thanks for the update!
Cheers
honestly thanks to you im actually looking foreward to this race
Just a casual Delorean at 8:30
Nice one Kym. Great video. Gotta say, I keep trying to spot you in the background on F1TV ! Can’t believe they haven’t interviewed you yet
8:32 nice car
Crazy amount of work being done there! I just hope they can provide a good, clean track surface, as it looks like a bloody ice rink at the moment.
Always feels relaxing watching your videos. This one is no difference. Thanks!
Great access and video, Kim!
Thanks so much!
