Alfred Lyttleton who scored England's goal against Scotland also played cricket for England. He was a wicket keeper, but in one Test match against Australia took 4 wickets for 19 runs bowling underarm lobs! In those days there were no declarations, so presumably the Australians (who having more than enough runs on the board) decided to get themselves out.
That's a great story 😄 Wasn't just football that had some strange rules then. It was fantastic back then that so many sportsmen were all rounders, playing football and cricket at top level.
Kinnaird had something of an on-field reputation. I once heard that his mother had complained to the FA saying she was afraid that one day he'd come home with a broken leg. "You may well be right, madam," came the reply, "but it won't be his."

Segar Bastard played cricket for Essex as well as playing football for Upton Park.
Yes. He was also a referee and a solicitor by trade. Many strings to peoples bows in the amateur days 👍
I thought Wanderers goal scorerers in the final were Heron and Kenrick🤔
I checked three sources and they are down as Kenrick and Lindsay. Maybe it is down as Heron in other sources. I'll keep digging. Things were not recorded very accurately if at all in those days so maybe some sources differ from others.
Blooming VAR didn't work back then either.
Imagine just being able to say "I didn't do it" and for that to be accepted. Kinnaird's opinion clearly held a lot of weight 😂
