That's where my mind went after watching this video. I'd have loved to see a heavy focus on the combat. Huge battles, people everywhere, mud in the camera and having to use your shield to block incoming attacks from different angles. You shouldn't even be able to see through the crowd. Instead it's just a guy sliding around the floor with a wooden axe whilst his opponents throw random attacks while 15m away. This would probably have been a great game 15 years ago. It seems I'm a minority but I don't care how good my characters beard can look if I just have to button mash my way through the game.

Combat looks way more satisfying in this game than the past two. Decapitations, dismemberment, the enemies actually get flung off the weapons especially with the axes. You never saw that in the prior games.
@@johncrafton8319 Combat in the other games wasn't really that great either (Odyssey and Origins). The real Ibn Fadlan was interesting. Movie had a viking, a 15th century knight, a gladiator and a conquistador fight a Slavic tribe which was known for being travelers and traders, NOT stone age cannibals.
53 hours in and confident to say that this is my favorite assasins creed, later on combat feels addicting being able to have access to an arsenal of cool abilities, also the story is so damn interesting Its like a movie sometimes.
I'm definitely getting it, I just don't know when. I really like the recent AC games mainly for the exploration and the open world, so I don't think I'll be bothered by the shoddy combat too much.
0:24 Ah, yes, the classic viking battle strategy that's one part ring around the rosie, two parts "you can't catch me, you can't catch me," all spitting in the face of physics.
ikr, ac worked as a franchise as long as it had some sort of conflict to connect the games into one another. Now its 15 minute segments of watch dogs easter eggs in a random(unexplored as a character) chick's laptop
Unity is by far the last real AC, exploring a city, the story of the Eden apple and it is and will ever be the last AC with crowd stealth Gameplay and it was the last who performed a crowd ki and it was the last AC with the original graphic engine, unity looked brutal gooood!
@MortalGamerDC1 85 Investigate a bit more on how far the ambition where in unity, not only the architecture, the amount of details in physics, eviromental story telling, and graphics, it was also the last game in the series with that engine cause they decided to move more away from crowd stealth system, yes gameplay as a mechanic was a bit weak but still, unity where on the right way if there weren't a huge change in the game series itself, it just got lost in becoming a repetitive series.
Which sucks because now they did a mediocre Viking game, which means we won't get another open world viking game from a better developer for a long time. Fing Ubisoft had to steal it.
They go on sale so quickly because they’re gonna rush the sequel to market anyway. When was the last time they released a game that wasn’t a buggy mess at release?
Don’t get it. 150 hours of game time just to watch evior pull a vin diesel at the end and say family over the creed and never joins, and basim turns out to be the villain. Awful plot twist
Boom, another game I can skip for now! Will wait for Ubi to fix the bugs and hopefully update the combat. Because it's incredibly dumb to not have combat in a VIKING game be impactful!!
Also missed oportunity to break a bit the "cliché" of "brutal bloody vikings" and make stealth more relevant again. Sad. Gonna wait for the complete edition (with all DLC) for deep sale. Wich is sad to say at release i guess ? é_è.
@Jan Rikardsen Dude, Black Flag has probably the worst melee combat I've seen in my life, 3 was a bit better. Unity was slow and floaty but better than Syndicate, and earlier games were either waiting around for counters or braindead killing sprees in Brotherhood. The franchise never had good combat.

@@smithdennard4547 Well I wouldn't really call it a deal price wise, unless your buying Xbox (for some reason most of the new games are 50 instead of full price compared to the playstation, like Valhalla, Yakuza, and watch dogs for example), but if you buy 2 games you get that 3rd free. Nevermind, just looked again and watch dogs isn't on sale but the others are on both consoles. immortal fenyx rising is too.
It saddens me to see that stealth isn’t even really considered in reviews of AC games these days due to it not being that notable. I remember the days where you played as a badass Assassin that could blend into crowds, free-run over intricate cityscapes, and sneak into heavily guarded compounds to take out a target without anyone suspecting a thing. It was the best feeling and such a unique one compared to all the other games out there. The Assassin’s Creed games were known for their innovations in epic stealth gameplay which was what the Creed order in the story was all about, and it feels like they’ve just given up on pushing the boundaries of great stealth. And don’t even get me started on how they ruined an originally great and promising story.
EXACTLY!! Im actually offended that people are praising this game to be the best one out. I'm convinced that none of them actually played the original AC and noted everything you mentioned that made AC what it truly was. After unity or syndicate the play style just went out the window and became something completely different. Also the stealth mechanics are terrible. All you do is hide in bushes and 6/10 you can't even assassinate anyone because they're clumped together in large groups in a fort. The air assissnation is the only mechanic that is still present. The parry/counter kills were also extremely fluid and cooler than just parrying and dodging attacks. I'm relieved that at least one person recognized how the real AC was before this garbage. And honestly odyssey and origins were way better and had a stronger story structure than this one.
@BackdriftNightfall Yeah, I wouldn't call someone dumb and or insult them for not liking something that I do. ACG is one of the best videogame interviewers we have...and he's also witty.
@Jan Rikardsen Wow, sour much? The DualSense is pretty incredible. Why not just be happy for people getting something innovative even if it's not on your platform of choice? It doesn't take anything away from you.
Been playing since 4am and it's just past 11am now. Beautiful game. Buggy. Lots of visual glitches. I love it, but they really need to drop the animus stuff altogether and spin these open-world ACs off into their own series. Whenever present day stuff appears, even if it's just UI elements, I'm more annoyed than anything else by the shoehorning in of legacy storyline stuff.
The present day hasn’t been good since AC3, if they brought back Desmond and everyone else then id love to have modern day, but now I feel the same as you whenever a present day scene starts.
Honestly the dark souls control scheme is ideal to me. When I play games with a similar combat system that have the option to map controls I always change it to the dark souls control scheme. I also prefer the dodge button to be circle on Playstation or B on Xbox but other games map dodging to square or x which feels absolutely strange

There are enough glitches, you could potentially call it Assassin's Creed: Odities.
Combat looks way more satisfying in this game than the past two. Decapitations, dismemberment, the enemies actually get flung off the weapons especially with the axes. You never saw that in the prior games.
It's just visual. Combat more or less just consists of mashing the heavy button.
@@johncrafton8319 Combat in the other games wasn't really that great either (Odyssey and Origins).
