  • How difficult is the hedge hog to use? Home depot tried talking me out of renting it because its "mechanical" and "difficult to use". How is it for the average D.I.Y.er? Filmed in vr180, like all my videos, for use with a vr headset but can be viewed on any youtube app device.

Thanks for this excellent video. I really appreciate you showing a good long stretch of using it so I can get a sense of how long it actually takes.

good to hear this helped you. I was nervous about using it, its bigger cousin with the 4" wide blade is a LOT of machine but this one wasn't anything to be concerned with.

Had a cage match with one of these for 4 rounds (4 hour rental) using it in Georgia hard packed clay with roots.
I lost the bout in the middle of the 3rd round. I was toast.
These are great until you get into major roots or rocks (then it becomes a bunking bronco and will kick your ass if you're old or out of shape like me). Any trench wider than 4" also can be a wrestling match.

Thanks for the video. I plan on renting one tomorrow. I have a shorter but much more technically difficult section to do. I hope it comes out well.

was a lot easier than I thought, was very nervous for no reason.

@@rnarramo Mine did not go that well. When I got to HD all of the yellow trenchers they had were broken and I had to use the 250lb Barreto "hydraulic" 18" Trencher. It was way too big for what I needed and it kept on shutting down when it was not on level ground. Had to finagle some board and paver stone under it constantly to get it to stay running. F- that BS.

sounds like more the home depot not maintaining their equipment, that sucks.

So, how well does that thing go through really hard soil?
The soil in my yard is like concrete in the summer.

Is something jammed in the teeth? I had the same thing happen and there was a little rock wedged between the blade and the sidewall.

didn't run into any with this one, the larger 4"wode trench winch I have torn through some bigger than my thumb and didn't know it. Mainly, this thing is way easier than I thought. Saved a huge amount of time
