If renting this ,make sure before you leave the store that the chain tension is firm. I rented this and 5 minutes into using it the chain popped off and it took me 20 minutes of my rental time to reinstall it
Thanks Jeffrey. Very informative video. Got about 700' of trenching to do so you convinced me to get a self-propelled (or hire an excavator). Take care.
Thanks for the video - convinced me to rent this today. Just finished trenching a few hundred feet at the second setting (12"). So glad I rented this; the small roots all over my yard take forever to get through with a spade. This little machine ate 'em up.
@@chrisd5383 Conservatively, about an hour. Some of that time was spent with the sawzall on bigger roots as well as removing the occasional rock from the machine. Without the mesh of Honey Locust roots and rocks I'd cut that in half. The machine moves around quite a bit as it hits impediments, which really works your forearms. Breaks were necessary for me.
I'm putting in a pool and need to trench electric 18" below grade. This was just the video I was looking for, Thanks! My local HD has this for $99/day rental. Easy money to save my back. Thumbs up.
I just finished using this trencher. I had a lot of trenching to do for an irrigation system in my front yard. It was very labor intensive. I was exhausted my the time I was finished. The heat and humidity in the Houston summer didn't help either. However using this trencher saved me a ton of work and time. If I had tried to dig the trenches by hand it would have taken several days whereas this only took a couple hours.
@@chrisd5383 I’m not sure. I didn’t keep track of the time. But I rented the machine for one day and got everything done in that day. I did have to go back and dig out some areas by hand a few days later that I missed.
Thank you for a great vid. How did you transport the trencher from Home Depot to your home? Also how easy is it to do a second pass? I need to dig wider for French drain, 8" minimum width.
I had a friend help me lift it into the back of my pickup truck. It's manageable with 2 people. A 2nd pass is doable but more difficult because one of the wheels will be close to the trenched line you have already done and could easily fall in. If you have a long distance to go, something with an 8" width would probably be better.
If I remember right, the handle can fold down, so it should fit. You might want to call your local Home Depot rental center and ask for the length to make sure it'll fit lengthwise.
Sorry for the late reply but yes, this thing cuts through pretty much anything. I'm in the Chicago area and our soil is full of clay. This thing went through it without an issue.

How long did it take you per 100ft? Thanks!

How much is it to rent ??

There up to $180 now for 4 hours and the smallest one
Make sure you don’t have any pipes and electric wires underneath 😅
Dude, it works great, but what a hell of a workout. It weighs 230lbs so if you have to push it up any hills or in soft dirt it is hard.
Awesome video make sire you dial 811 before you dig.
This video helped convince me to spend the $$$ and get the trencher. Going to run ~150' worth of irrigation.
How’d it work going a second pass and widening the first 4 inch trench, or was that wide enough for your project?
4 inches was sufficient for my project so I didn’t need a second pass

Hey did you use 1 inch pvc ?
How wide is the diameter of this trencher ?
@@oscarreyes9133 I'm using 3/4 inch PVC. I think the trench that the trencher digs is about 3 inches wide but I'm not sure.
@@oscarreyes9133 I just finished a few hundred feet with this trencher and can verify it's just over 3" wide.

good info
I rented one, I used it for half an hour and now it turns on but it doesn't turn, the blade doesn't work, what could be happening, help me.
Good video but just curious, what was the white PVC pipe you struck? hopefully nothing important!

nice. thanks for the video. Looks like I should be able tackle this. Did you hit a small PVC pipe?
I'm a bit late replying but yes. I knew it was somewhere around there and I was planning on moving it anyway.
Thanks for the video. I am planning to rent this for my project. Just curious, will this fit in a suv like rav4 because I don't have a truck.

So, how well does that thing go through really hard soil?
The soil in my yard is like concrete in the summer.
@@Condor1970 I didn't encounter any really hard soil when I was using it, so I'm not sure. Probably best to call and ask your local Home Depot
Can it cut through hard clay?
