  • Start catching fish while everyone else overlooks this spot! As we approach the middle of Summer, fish get harder to catch. If you're fishing the same techniques in the same places, you're probably starting to struggle. But there is something simple you can do to start catching fish again right now!
It's time to get away from the bank! Forget the shoreline you fish every day and start focusing your attention on submerged vegetation and color lines. Weed lines and weed edges are the EASIEST place to catch fish in your lake and almost no one is targeting them!
Below you'll find links to the exact baits and gear we use when targeting bass this time of year. We've included our favorite sizes and colors for each lure to make it as simple as possible for you. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

I'm in the same boat. (Pun intended) I learned from Randy Blauket's RUclips that if you use Google Earth, you can turn back time to specific dates and see your lake during a drought. Then you can see everything. I'm new to fishing. Trying to learn not to suck. Haha it slow going so far. But so fun. Good luck and tight lines.

I know it’s off topic, but man I love flukes on a river with laydowns. I take a 3.5 inch jointed fluke on a 3/0 ewg wrapped with some lead wire for a tiny amount of weight and just let the current take it under the lay down. If something’s under it, they bite. I’m still looking for a weighted hook that’ll work.

Spent 2 days throttling stump fields close to shore in a new lake while on vacation last summer, slow slow pick of fish . Then remembered an earlier vid of yours about offshore weed and color lines. Pointed my yak mid-lake; found the lines, threw topwaters in 90-degree weather in middle of day, bluebird skies-something I NEVER do-and slayed them on whoppper Plopper. That bite died, switched to chatterbait, fish on. You guys are the best!

I have been a shore angler all my life but one of my best ways to catch fish at my favorite reservoir used to be to sling a senko ( rigged TX style w/ no weight) as far out as I could and just let it sink and watch for the tick on the line. I’m certain I was connecting with those grass line fish. The funny part was I would match and sometime beat some of the Tuesday night tournament guys who used to weigh in at the same cove I fished.
Btw, BFS rocks! Got a combo and now I can’t put it down to save my life.

What about if you don’t have a boat, so you’re limited to bank fishing? The water is a murky green color and the rocks on the bottom quickly disappear with the depth even with polarized lenses. You have no way of knowing what’s under the surface out in front of you or how deep it is. What would you advise would be a good set-up to start out with? In the past people have pulled out trout, bass, crappie, carp and occasionally channel cats. Although I have yet to see anyone else catching anything near me. So I’m not the only one struggling. I’ve had trouble with this lake with getting bites, even when fish are jumping. Even the bluegill are picky with powerbait and eggs.…and we all know those guys usually go for anything.
I’ve tried whopper ploppers, frogs, plastic worms with a craw attractant, crankbaits, and spinner baits in all the popular colors. Black, white, bone, green pumpkin, Junebug, etc.
    Nothing….no bites.

That seems to be the case with a lot of lakes around me, so anything with an exposed hook doesn't work to well. Or how about the kids throwing softball sized rocks at the overhanging branch that their lure is stuck in. Nothing gets the fish on a hook faster than large rocks being thrown in 20 feet away from your line! I avoid the weekends now. I was getting too frustrated out at my local lake.
