Adding Drawers and a Shelf to My Work Table // Shop Build // Woodworking

- I'll show you how I made my rolling work table a little more functional by adding a shelf and a stack of drawers. I show how I add solid wood edging to plywood for the shelf and build a drawer stack from scratch using Brad's drawer technique from Fix This Build That.

When I watched their videos, I saw that we had something in common. I love wood work. I'il stop by again to see what you're doing. I'm lucky to see a good master like you. If you want, you can do my work so I can be happy. You can contribute to my development with your comments. So I can develop more quickly.
Thank you for the compliment! I certainly wouldn’t say I’m a master, but I’m glad you found the channel! Hopefully I can help you learn as I learn too!
I just came across this when looking for ideas on adding drawers to my own workbench and I have to say, even without the drawers, your workbench design is amazing. More refined than the typical shop workbench, which is important IMHO. Your workshop should be inviting and pleasing to walk into.
Great job with this one.
I had saved this video a while ago because I hadn't got the time back then to watch videos. Now I have some time to watch it. Great update man!
Thank you, sir! And thanks for making time to check it out!
Grasias por este video vale oro que dios lo bendiga con toda tu familia
Looks great. A little trick with installing the drawer front if you are going to add drawer pulls is to screw the draw fronts in place where the pull screws will go then screw the draw front on from the back and remove the screws on the front removes the need for clamps but also doesn’t risk moving the front while you pull the drawer out to put on the clamps 😁😁
That’s a great trick! I would have done that if I knew for sure how I was going to mount the pulls. I didn’t know if it was going to be one hole or two, so I did the clamping route. Funny enough, I decided immediately after!
Loved the door pulls.
About 3 years ago I built my workbench with the idea of using it for an assembly table. I have been looking for a way to store my tools someplace close to where I’m working. Thanks to you the next project is to get further organized by building drawers under my workbench. Thanks for the information on how to put this together.
That is awesome to hear! You’re welcome and have fun with it!
Great project! Really adds another dimension to the workbench. Keep up the great work!
Thank you! It really does add another dimension. And I love it!
Great job! Can never have too many drawers but I hate building them!
Thanks! I’ve only built a few sets of them, so I haven’t started to dislike it yet. Thanks for stopping by!
Nice upgrade to the bench! Nothing beats good storage in the workshop! Great job! 🙌🏻😁
Thanks, Kirstie! I fully plan on putting it to good use. Thanks for watching!
This looks really good. Also on my to do list for my workbench! Thanks for sharing
Thank you! It’s not nearly as tough as I was worried it would be. Thanks for watching!
Hello. That's a good idea. The desk now has great drawers. The result is amazing. Congratulations. it looks really nice. Thank you for sharing. Great greetings ....
Thank you so much! I definitely put those drawers to use right away too!
Looks good.
Thank you!
Nice job.
Great addition! nice way of spacing drawers.
Thanks! I picked that up from a few other people on YT. Super simple way to go. Thanks for watching!
very helpful video, thank you.
Thank you! I'm happy to help!
From one woodworker to another...I feel your pain with how things go wrong in almost every project. I'm the same way I always end up having to fix something I did the wrong way. Its good to know I'm not the only one that makes mistakes. But I love your work and really enjoyed your video.
Thank you, John! One of my favorite parts of woodworking videos is seeing mistakes and how to fix them. I try to include my mistakes whenever I can because I'm learning as I go and that is a great way to learn and help others learn!
Good table ,,, like this friend 👍👍
Looks great; thank you for sharing this. :)
Thanks for watching!
Lab lover here. Need more furkid facetime. 🥰
Haha! I’ll have to see what I can do!
I'm going to make something just like this. Will be my first time making drawers. I'm definitely going to buy an extra sheet of plywood. LOL!!!
Haha! Have fun with it!
Very nice !!!
Thank you!
👍🏼👌I was stuck, you gave me great ideas..gracias🌞
Awesome! You’re welcome!
beautiful table👍
Thank you and thanks for watching!
I have somewhat the same issue, I don’t have a dedicated space as my work space. I will definitely think about adding this to my newly acquired workbench. Good job!
Thank you! It seems daunting until you see someone do the steps. Then it becomes much more manageable. Good luck and thanks for checking it out!
You speak the truth! Haha! But yes, after watching you, it feel a lot easier and less intimidating.
Hi Brent, This really turned out nice and could be used in many places.
Thanks, Rita! I’ve really put these additions to use and have been starting to plan what else I need to build for storage. Plenty more of my things need a home!
Nice job! I have to completely rearrange my garage. I acquired a new rolling toolbox that I don't have room for!
Thanks! I have to rearrange mine more often than I’d like. Always a good problem to find room for a new addition to the shop, though!
@@WhiteLabWorkshop it's a fine balance of storing things I want in the garage and things that should be in the garage like the kids bikes :)
I hear you there
that was great i love ever inch of it...
Thank you!
🙏🤝🇮🇩🇮🇩
Those look heavy duty
Nice job man, came out nice. Can always use more storage space!
Thank you! I’m sure I’ll fill it up and be looking for more before too long! Thanks for checking it out!
You really made this look fantastically practical & if you wanted to you could use the end of the Workbench as a shadow board for additional tool storage 🍻👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you Sumo! That shadow board is a great idea too. I’ll keep that in mind as I start filling it up. Thanks for checking it out!
Nice job, looks super clean 👍
Thank you! I really like how it turned out. There were some mistakes I didn’t catch until too late that I was worried would affect how it looked, but they get hidden when the drawers are closed. I’m the only one who sees it with the drawers open, so I’ll let them be. I’ll leave it as an exercise to the viewer to figure out what those mistakes are 😉
@@WhiteLabWorkshop well I will have to watch it again!
Several times maybe. Don’t want to miss any details!
@@WhiteLabWorkshop 😂😂😂
Cute white lab! (or whatever breed). These drawers are going to be a game changer. I could use some better organization myself.
Thanks! Duke one of the two white labs that we got our name from :). And definitely agreed about the drawers. So much potential for a mobile work space. Thanks for watching!
Nice upgrades! You can never go wrong with extra storage. Good use of that wasted space!
Thank you! It’s always nice to make more room for stuff!
@@WhiteLabWorkshop yep! Now tell the wife you need to go buy more tools to fill those drawers!
Now you’re talking!
We really like the end result. Looks great! Your videos get better and better each time but I admit we enjoyed laughing at your discomfort. LOL
Ha! Thanks! I KNEW it would be worth it in the end!
Excellent Work, Top Marks.
Thank you!
you could make the box for drawers before and to install it as a box so you could avoid your discomfort
You are absolutely correct! I was kind of winging it on this one and definitely learned some lessons from it.
Well done. In sizing width of drawers do you need to consider sliders on each side? Such as if opening is 18” do the drawer width need to be 1/4 or 1/2” “less in width due to drawer slides?
Thank you! Yes, you have to factor in the drawer slides when sizing drawers, if you have the style that goes on the side. Make sure to measure yours, but 1/2” for both seems to be pretty common.
Great Job!!!!! Without all the fancy tools the other guy use to make drawers for a workbench. One Question where did you get yours wheels for your workbench from......
Thank you very much! The wheels came from Home Depot.
@@WhiteLabWorkshop thanks
I enjoyed your project and will use some of your techniques. P.S. Please lose crappy sound track for future videos
Thank you! I appreciate the feedback!
How about putting the table upside down?
Haha! That seems like the logical thing to do, doesn’t it? I was convinced at the time that I was doing it the easier way 😆
Do you have a video how to make the table...?
I do not. I plan to make another table like it and will film and explain that process when I do.
Thanks, those drawers came out really nice i tried but didn't work I'm doing something wrong i did 19 inch space and i did 18 inch drawers but it didn't work
Instead of using a piece of wood to help you when you are screwing the pocket screws buy yourself a corner jig from rockler that comes with two clamps and keeps the drawer sides totally square...all for $12 ....
You’re probably right. Sometimes store bought tools like that are just the best option. Thanks for the suggestion!
I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed… I can’t understand why you didn’t complete the box and then secure it to your table. Am I missing something ?
If only you had been there with me, John! At the time, it seemed like the logical way to go. But, with the benefit of hindsight, I agree with you that I did it the hard way!
Probably next time build the cube first and then install cube. Awkward drilling remedy .
It was definitely a “live and learn” moment!
