realbeal I think it would sound great running after your Big Muff. It's like an "amp" in a box and gets you really close to that tube amp running into a cabinet and recorded with a microphone kind of sound.
Thanks dude- dug the review. I used to have one of the old ones and it got stolen... recently had to do a gig without my SVT and and borrowed a new DI Diver to to use... killer. But I wanted to see more before I got my own.
MAUDLIN Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment. I'm very grateful and glad that you found the video helpful! Like you said, it just sounds killer. Cheers!
No problem! I'm thinking of getting some more pedals as well... I used to use a few, but then switched over to just the amp sound with plenty of gain on the SVT Classic. I play a Ric 4003 most of the time. Indie rock sound- you can hear on our channel. Anything else you'd recommend as a 'must have?'
Firstly, I checked out your music and I really dig it! I subscribed so I can check out all your new releases. As far as your question: I recommend a nice compressor (MXR M87 Bass Compressor or Cali 76 Compact Bass Compressor) to balance out your tone. If you're looking for an awesome overdrive with a vintage "tube-like feel", I would take a look at the Darkglass Vintage Microtubes. I'd love to run that beast into the SansAmp, but for now I'm getting a nice warm distortion out of the MXR M80. Lastly, if you want something that you can use to boost your signal running into your SVT, I recommend the TC Electronic Spark Mini Booster: ruclips.net/video/F1PR1oQXlL4/видео.html
My opinion is that the SansAmp drive sound is not very nice. Also, having a separate overdrive that you can engage and disengage is convenient. If you like the overdrive sound on the SansAmp, I'd say go for it. I've noticed that running into the SansAmp with overdrive pedals sounds great thanks to the cab sim in the pedal.
Yeah, it looks like a very useful tool, but both VT Bass and BDDI are versatile enough and have a cab sim, so i dont really know if i need it. If you have a different preamp or distortion/overdrive pedal that you like, but it sound bad going direct, then this is the way to go, Q-strip!
You're right, you probably don't "need" the new Q-Strip, but it does rock! I use the MXR M80 Bass DI+ as my preamp and run it into an MXR Bass Compressor and top it off with the SansAmp. The SansAmp makes the distortion channel sound so good! I absolutely love the tube amp and cab sim. Cheers buddy!
Thanks...I’ve been searching for a week now, but didn’t know what they were called. I was having a problem trying to remember the exact settings on something. I didn’t want to use a sharpie. This is perfect!
Is this something that can be used to record direct? I’m a guitar player but trying to add some bass tracks to a song. Trying to keep the bass gear to a minimum as it’s not my forte. Thanks
Thanks for your question Blake! The SansAmp blend knob blends the dry direct signal with the "amp and cabinet simulation" (aka the SansAmp emulation). All the way to the left would turn the "amp and cabinet simulation" off. All the way to the right will be full "amp and cabinet simulation." The mid scoop you are referring to is around 800hz, but you can adjust by raising the mid knob and/or lowering the blend. Also, Tech 21 says that by lowering the highs and lows can also raise the mids on this pedal. CHEERS bud!
Have this pedal and it is a marvelous addition to my board. I kept looking at yours and wondering why yours had more LED indicators than mine. [Laffin'😁] Incidentally, which XLR cable do you use to connect to the amp?
Haha, yeah those are sticky jewels to help me remember my favorite settings. If connecting to an amp, I'll use the 1/4 inch output. The XLR is for recording directly, or for sending to a front of house sound board.
I am just beginning to build a bass pedal board - does this pedal give some compression? I see you have a compression pedal as well - can you comment on how you use compression with your board? Thanks
Hey, that's a great question! I'd say that if you use the drive, it adds a very slight compression, but nothing to write home about. I use my compressor after my preamp, and before the SansAmp. I like to have a relatively fast attack and not too fast release. I chose the MXR Bass Compressor because it's so clean. I felt with all the preamps and tone shaping options I have that I didn't need a compressor that colored my tone. Thanks for watching!
@@IDMD8 Anytime! I forgot to mention that if you're looking into compressors, check out ovnilab.com The guy who created the website is no longer doing compressor reviews, but there's a wealth of information as to what you should be looking for in a bass compressor. Good luck on the new board!
Hi! Yes, essentially you can just plug it right into a PA system or recording interface you've got great tone. You can still use it with an amp if you'd like to. It's a preamp pedal that simulates the sound of an amp and speaker cabinet.
That's a balanced xlr cable, best used for recording or going to a mixer board for playing live. To answer your question, the pedal also has a 1/4 inch out (basic guitar cable).
When running through an amp, I send my pedals through the effects return, bypassing the amps tone. I thought it was a bit muddy when sent through the amp input. That being said, every amp is different, so the best way to find out is to just have some fun and try it. Let me know how it goes!
Hey man, great video. I ordered online a sansamp v2 and an art tube v3. I believe the art tube should go after the instrument and before the sansamp, right? or viceversa? - also... what are those numbheads that click on thumbs down? lol anyways... haterz gonna hate :P
Thank you! I guess it depends on what you are using the ART for. Will you be recording? Will you be sending it to an amplifier? It could sound great either way, but I would try it out both ways and see what sounds best to me.
i put one of these into the power amp input on my absolutely terrible 1980s peavy solid state 15 inch combo and it make it sound 10x better
Good move, that's the best way to use it.
Oh my gosh, I think I am in love with the DI!

Great stuff! My buddy and I have been using the Tech 21 VT Bass lately. I also use a Leeds sansamp on my own rig. Love that company!
S19NAL C14AIN thanks bro! Don't know what I'd do without my SansAmp. Plug and play, amazing tones. Cheers!

Looking to add my grit and growl to my Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 with this!!
Excellent demo.
My plan was to sell my MXR Bass DI and replace it with the SansAmp.
But now I see that I obviously need both :)
Those are great pedals. You can't just about any sound you want out of them.
This sounds awesome. Would I still need a compressor?
Yes, the SansAmp has no compressor.
@@PhillyWatts but SansAmp does some compression due to its tube emulation, of course without plenty of options regular compression pedal does
It tames all the peaks but it doesn't provide the sustain
Nice demo bro!
Jase M thanks man!!
Considering the fact that this gives a good amount of drive, is an overdrive pedal still necessary?
My opinion is that the SansAmp drive sound is not very nice. Also, having a separate overdrive that you can engage and disengage is convenient. If you like the overdrive sound on the SansAmp, I'd say go for it.

Nice review! I love Tech 21, I use VT Bass V2 for more than 3 years now. Now I want this pedal as well and VT Bass Deluxe.

I just got one and I like it. When you use the blend knob, it seems to scoop out the mids,.....what exactly is it "blending"?

Can I stack this pedal's drive and amp's drive to get a heavier tone? Or it would sound muddy?

In box there is a noise gate?
Stefan Batory No noise gate, but it is a super quiet pedal.
The MXR M80 Bass DI that I use towards the end of the video does have a noise gate.
Yes. Thanks
Time for a half-rack version, isn"t it?
That'd be pretty cool! I know that Tech 21 has nice rack mount stuff already, especially the Geddy.

Honnestly, looks like the same sound of an EMG pickup on any DI/bass amp.
Hey philly, I just made a video about a similar sansamp- bit of a twist to it though, you might like it!
DistoTone Music just checked it out! Got me thinking about tramping some stuff through my SansAmp! Good stuff, cheers!
Doesn't sound like a tube amp to my ears. But why would it?!
Too much fiddling.
