I like the BDDI as a tone shaper mostly, with the drive around 10:00. I really don't like it at heavy drive settings, particularly with fingers, so I just do blend at noon with enough grit to give my tone some "sparkle." Nice demo as always.
The thing that I love about SansAmps as compared to other preamp pedals, is that the sound of a SansAmp is immediately identifiable. They produce such a distinct sound that sits well any type of mix, especially more with aggressive styles of music.
I love sansamp pedals because I can get great tone right away without endless tweaking. And the most important thing that they do extremely well is: the tone sits very very well in the mix or need much less post processing to make it sit perfectly in the mix. That is the final goal of every processor.

Plus, the sound engineer will effing love you cause their job gets a whole lot easier when you bring in one of these
The great thing about these SansAmp units is they have a 3 band comp linked to the drive stage. So you can get a warm comp tone to a heavy, grindy distortion type compression.

If you read the manual you'll see that most of the time you'd want the blend knob on 100%. The only time you'd (probably) want to use that knob is if you had a piezo system.
I have an old one w/o the mid knob. I use about 90% Blend. I like to hear just a little "solid state" sound. That gives a little mid punch, to my ears, anyway.

Why not just run it from the output to the loop return, bypassing your amp's preamp stage, and have it run to the house from DI and have basically the same sound on stage? The mic the cab, too. Deadly.
I used to do this, then after having a thousand sound guys keep telling me I have to turn my stage rig down I was like "Why TF am I dragging a four space rack and two four by ten cabs for nobody to hear them except me. I ditched the amp altogether and went literally sans amp. Just had the engineer put my bass in my wedges. Got the same sound without carrying any heavy gear. I use one tone, a pretty heavily distorted metal tone with a lot of dry signal, about 60/40 to keep it punchy. I know this is an old thread but since people still watch this video I figured this could be good advice for some poor bastard who is lugging an 8x10 can only to have the sound guy run his bass through a dry DI and turn his stage rig down to negative two. Yeah big amps look cool, but having younger bassists come up and ask how you got an awesome sound without an amp as if it was magic is pretty cool too.
Great as always. I use an emulated version of the older one on my multi-effects pedal (my Swiss Army Knife on the cheap), and even though it'll never truly compare to the original, it's the one I go to when I need some thick overdrive. Not sure why there's only just over 1,600 subs on this channel. The variety of gear is great and the reviews are spot on with more playing and less talking. Any chance of a look at the Earthquaker Devices Acapulco Gold? I know it has been around for a while, but the thing is an absolute monster from what I've seen on other sites/channels.
Thanks, man! The number of subs is probably correlated to the lifespan of the channel (10 months), but hopefully we'll keep growing. We've been glad to see how many people enjoy what we do thus far and are always looking for ways to make it better. Robert F nothing is necessary, but if you want to stack gain you ideally run another dirt pedal into the SansAmp. Set the SansAmp for light grind and then give a push with an overdrive/distortion/fuzz to let that son of a bitch rip

Have to be real careful with the drive, bass, and treble settings. They have a tendency to clip and distort. I love this pedal! Amp and Cab sim is excellent and does wonders for pedals running into it.

When you switch to DI sound at around 12 min, it seems the DI is WAYYYY more overdriven than the line out to amp. Is that normal? I would think you’d expect the same sound at both outs.

We always have the amp set completely flat with the Ultra Mid switch engaged. It's an Ampeg B100R Rocket Bass with a 15" speaker, mic'd with a Shure Beta 52. The red bass is a Fender JP-90 with Seymour Duncan SPB-3 Quarter Pound set (P/J). What kind of setup are you running now?

Yeah, the Tone Hammer is phenomenal. As a rule of thumb, when we demo a pedal, we always leave the amp flat. Unless I'm missing something, this pedal seems like it's more suited to rock/heavy metal styles. Not being a pick guy, the first part of the demo was lost on me. As for the finger style it also produced more acerbic sounding riffs in all of the positions demoed, than my liking. To each his own I guess, but I bought this pedal thinking it produced more warm and rounded tones than I am able to get out of it. That's why I checked out this tutorial. (sigh) Guess it confirms what I already suspected.
I would agree with your assessment about how it sounds. I heard/watched the demo and review for the MXR M80, and I liked what that unit offered. I'm curious to check out what Darkglass has to offer in this pedal system. If it's not that much better for my style and taste, then I may just go with the MXR M80.

A couple times the dude messing with the controls started to get a good clean, punch sound then immediately took it back to that frigginj fuzz tone that I hate with a passion....Fuzz/distortion is for guitars. I would never buy this by this demonstration. The search continues for a better demo....
Gonna have to disagree with you there buddy. I love fuzzy distorted bass tones. A lot of music i listen to has that and this thing rocks at giving me that tone.
It's nice to see a bass gear demo where they feature both plectrum and fingerstyle players, because it makes such a huge difference to your sound.

This sans amp is the best you need one of these if your going to play bass you can get any sound you need out of it and it's great for recording too

Dave Dixon I think the signal from the xlr is way louder than the 1/4inch and they didn't compensate for it so its clipping. Not 100% positive though

I'm 99.9% sure that's what Jason used on the recordings. Possibly the rack mounted version. Near identical tone
I think he uses SVT amps too so this will give you a decent copy of his clean or dirty tone. Tortex picks and slightly heavier gauge strings

You might want to check out the wr goliath preamp pedal. Has an actual tupe in it and should be a bit smoother/warmer

I have the older version, but you can definitely get a good, clean tube amp sound out of it.
