    At 3:40 you nailed it. (if their paying attention) Sound guy generally hears you drop out when you switch to bass overdrive, or vise versa. Thus you have a better chance getting the levels matched with the SansAmp vs. using an entirely separate pedal like a Boss Overdrive.
    I just veered away from petal boards altogether and let the 6-string guys soak it up. I just see a pedal board as an endless rabbit hole. How far down the hole are you willing to go? In my later years I just choose the less is more approach. What is the shortest & cleanest signal path from my strings to your ears. if there was a DI input on my bass I would use it...Hey, I have an idea Jesse...
    In closing, is the compressor at the front end?

    • @JesseFranklinWood
      @JesseFranklinWood  4 года назад

      Hey, thanks for the feedback! To answer your question, I do put my compressor at the very front. And, yes, pedalboards are and ENDLESS rabbit hole...but one that I enjoy ;-)

    Anyway I just noticed that when you use preset 2 (around 3:50) there are some considerable hissing sound. Why is that? What about the noise of this box in general? Thanks for the great review.

    • @JesseFranklinWood
      @JesseFranklinWood  9 лет назад

      You will definitely notice some more hiss as the gain is turned up, which, for the most part, is inherent to most pedals when you touch a gain knob. What makes it not a big deal is that the hiss is a lot lower than the actual volume coming out. So its never noticed while playing. Also, whenever I'm not playing I have my volume pedal off so there is then zero hiss. In general the pedal is pretty quiet. I rarely use the 2nd setting anyway unless I'm just goofing off and jamming experimenting with sounds

    • @JesseFranklinWood
      @JesseFranklinWood  5 лет назад

      Good ear! There is a bit of noise in the gain signal on this pedal. I now use the Darkglass Vintage Microtubes Ultra and it blows the Sansamp out of the water!

    Hey jesse can you use these booth tone control and di at they same time like for example running it as a di through out xlr output to the front of the house/PA? Cause i did use this once at church, run it out to xlr and all i had was clipping and lots of hizzing or buzzing.. any idea why? Thanks

    • @JesseFranklinWood
      @JesseFranklinWood  2 года назад

      Yes, it's actually designed to do both tone control and DI out to FOH. You definitely have to be aware, though, of your overall output gain. I'm willing to bet that your signal was way hotter/louder than what the FOH usually gets from the bass channel which would explain the clipping. You can try to adjust your master volume down and/or check and adjust gain at the sound board. The hissing could also be a product of high amounts of distortion/gain on your end on the pedal, which partly just comes with the territory of using it. There's definitely an art to dialing in a great tone that also translates well through your sound system.

      @@rickmanondrumsandbass9292 ok good! In ears can have a whole separate BUS control from the board as well so I would make sure it's adjusted there. • @JesseFranklinWood
      @JesseFranklinWood  8 лет назад +1

      Thecreator Anu You mean how do you know they are same volume level between each one? You have to feel that out by ear and adjust via the master to balance them. So create one channel as you want it with volume in the middle and then after you adjust your settings for the second one you want to save, go ahead and save it and then switch between the first and second listening for volume changes. If it needs to be adjusted then click back on the second one and adjust the volume and save again and recheck.

  • @ricktrapp482
    @ricktrapp482 3 года назад +1

    I just purchased this box. After finding three pre sets , they aren't always the same volume and it will drive my sound guy nuts going from one to the other and the volume spikes, what can I do to remedy this? am I back to using the volume knob on my bass or do I need to tweak each channel until volume is the same, by using the drive setting?

    • @JesseFranklinWood
      @JesseFranklinWood  3 года назад +2

      Great question! I believe you should be able to use the Level knob to adjust volume of each preset so the tone you created doesn't change. I would probably start on the pre-CERT that has the highest gain and maybe try a level at 12 o’clock, then go to your next preset and adjust the level knob to get the volume to match the first one and then move to the third one and do the same. But, yeah, slightly laborious process but your sound tech will love you!

    • @JesseFranklinWood

    • @JesseFranklinWood
      @JesseFranklinWood  3 года назад +1

      Great question! If you're happy with your tone coming from your bass, then you probably don't need the tone shaping benefits of the sansamp, but you may still want to look for a good quality DI box. If that's all you need, then I recommend the Radial JDI.

    • @JesseFranklinWood

    Which is the ideal position to place the BDDI? At the front or the last bit of the chain?

    • @JesseFranklinWood
      @JesseFranklinWood  6 лет назад +2

      Hey, James! If you’re using it as a functioning direct box and not just for tone shaping, then you don't have a choice but to place it at the very end as you'll want the XLR output signal to include all of your other pedals. If your not using it for the direct box purpose, then you have more freedom and it's really up to you and can depend on what other pedals you have. The simple fact is, though, is that it's ok to experiment to see what position gives you the tone you're looking for. I put my tone shaping (eq) at the end of the chain for my bass even though I don't use it as a direct box. Hope that helps!

    • @JesseFranklinWood
      @JesseFranklinWood  9 лет назад

      If you look at my settings on channel 1 (11:35), my worship tone is pretty close to that but since the video I have adjusted the Drive knob to 12 o'clock. The Bass and Treble you may have to adjust a little according to what your rig sounds like but that should give a good starting point. The little extra drive helps it stand out in the mix a little better in worship environments with 2 electrics, keys, and 2 acoustics.

      For a bass the mid is clearly more important than the treble

      if you were using it as a DI and replacing your amp, for either a PA system or home recording, you could just use a mixer?
      and the pedal does adjust MIDs, youve just gotta fiddle around with the bass and trebble, it bases the mid on what they're set to automatically~

      Dude, when all you have is 2 bands, the third is there.Ex you wanna turn up the mids? Turn the bass and treb down and turn the volume up. You want it scooped? Vice versa. Plus the presence control and blend on this pedal can be used effectively. However, I don't really like this dude's tone, and he has 2 eq pedals...wtf

    Don't buy this if you think you're going to make your DI bass sound like an amp. It doesn't.

      @@oinkooink maybe if you use it to color your sound and the DI feature (while using an amp maybe)
