Despite my 'whitebread' appearance, I went to a high school that was VERY diverse and therefore listened to everything from old school hip hop, to new wave, to hard rock. It was a great environment, and I still have very eclectic tastes because of it. Thanks for watching Jason.

This is SO totally sweet. I'm really into the Japan of the '80s, and didn't think someone'd have videos like this of their time there from back then! THANKS! also, this'd be the year Ranma was first released ^^;

Haha,the newspaper helped me place the time a bit, but then to see the ojisan clipping the tickets at the turnstyles.... HOLY CRAP! The mind boggles to think that this was how tickets were done for the whole yamanote line. Great vid, can't wait for more dude. Peace

Did someone also punch that same ticket again when exiting the station or was that handled by a machine with the flaps that opened when the train ticket was inserted? Thanks.

never been to japan yet but i would have ;love too go oto jaoan especially back then just like i tell people about how new york was back in the 80s 3 years later in 1990 i had 2 japanese kids stay with us for little league babeball league and they came from overseas thats the closest we ever been jaopan wise thank you

Jason, you need to find that tape and get it converted! I had a friend convert it from VHS to DVD and he also gave it to me in a DV format which I loaded onto my computer. If you don't know anyone, there are still places here that'll convert vhs to dvd and you can transfer from dvd to your computer with some free online software. I would love to see the old video!
WOW! were those *rubs eyes* PULL TABS!?!?!?!? As if the newspaper wasn't enough to date this vid...And did you notice the giant clunking desktop computer being advertised on the platform!? Wow, thanks for this stroll down memory lane, even though I was only a freshman in HS at the time...

Hey Slick, yes our camera was BIG so there was no hiding the fact that we were filming! And back then when you exited the station you left the ticket with the attendant, who then had to instantly recognize where you came from and whether you paid the proper fare (both written on the ticket)! Talk about a tough job!
OMG they have to physically take each ticket. Those machines they have today accept the ticket before the gate and quickly dispense it at the opposite side while opening the gate. Also noticed the same announcement "watch out beyond the yellow line". Abunai desu kara kiiroi sen kara denaide kudasai. あぶない です から きいろい せん でないで 下さい。

この電車はインドネシアに譲渡されて今でも走っているよ。205系電車は今でも世界で通用する利便性と効率性を持っている。
階段脇の黒地に路線カラーを入れた三角型の番線案内、複数の線が乗り入れる駅や主要駅に必ずあったな。4、5年前に水道橋駅から撤去されてから見なくなった！東京駅の水色、黄緑、オレンジ地で数字の部分が白の個体などシンプルで良かった！他の方も書いているけど、JR の駅施設はまだまだ外国人やお年寄り、体の不自由な方には優しくない構造だな❗
