    An advantage of training mini ponies as guide animals over dogs is their lifespan is twice that of a dog.

    I am very happy for Mona to have her horse, Cali. 😊
    At the moment, I have a guide dog, but she is coming up for retirement age soon, and unless God gives me a miracle and restores my eyesight, I may have to consider options of either another guide dog, or maybe a guide horse?
    I don’t think we are into training guide horses here in England yet, so has anyone got any suggestions? I love horses, and used to do a lot of horseriding.Has anyone heard of a guide horse that you can ride?
    Now there’s a thought ha ha
    Or maybe someone could train a horse to pull a carriage and guide someone to the shops in that way.
    There are endless possibilities surely.
    Signing off now.
    Some of the comments on here are very interesting. LOL

    Mini horses can perform many tasks, but their close up vision is pretty poor! I would use minis as mobility support animals or something rather than guide animals. Also, horses are super social animals and need to live with at least one other horse/equine in order to maintain their mental heath.

      They are actually really good at guide work, despite their vision. They can see a car coming at you much faster than a dog can, and they can move people out of the way because of their large size.

In fact, I’m planning to have 2⃣ guide horses that I had a great idea to name after Disney characters who happen to be 1⃣. Bullseye (mini foal) and 2⃣. Rapunzel (mini filly). horses can be toilet/house trained and go toilet on command as well. Even race horses are asked to go on command before a race to lighten the load, and so the horse doesn't feel the need to go later on.

One time my mom brought the dog with her to visit their house and my sister gave it some water from one of their plastic bowls, when he found out later he threw the bowl away. Apparently it’s really a big deal depending how religious the person is.

Humans can't see behind them, do we have horrible vision? Neither can dogs yet they somehow have better vision than a horse? Horses have one of the largest fields of view of all animals on earth, and there is also this thing known as turning your head, maybe you should try it

    • @sydneym.8308
      @sydneym.8308 6 лет назад +1

      Bet Freddy for example, on a cross country course, they don’t know if the ditch is tall, low, or just a shadow, the rider must act as their guide at times. Human eyes are closer together, so we see depth relatively well. Horse eyes are wider apart, so they don’t have good depth perception. To answer your question, horses can improve their depth perception by raising their heads up high, which is how a lot of horses approach jumps. All in all, horses depth perception is pretty crap normally. So I wouldn’t use one as my guide! Unless they have their nose up in the air!

    • @betfreddy
      @betfreddy 6 лет назад +1

      sydneigh.equestrian spam I think you are overreacting. A guide pony is not going to go faster than a walk, horses are smart animals and can know where a step or something is. I understand what you are saying, they don't have binocular vision like us or guide, but they do have a really good field of view. I think they can be just as good
