A steel bench block or an anvil are necessary for metal stamping. A wood block would have too much give when struck with the hammer. The give would allow the stamping blank to move away from the hammer slightly and would result in a less clear stamping. The metal keeps the blank in place, ensuring a hard hit and a clear image.
We have wanted to make a Liver of Sulfer video for awhile but it is a tricky one to film due to the strong odor it produces. We would need to tape it outside and are working on the logistics of producing a video outside of our studio.
I'm in the process of getting into metal stamping. I was gonna get the Impressart metal stamping kit, but based on your recommendation I am definitely getting the Beadsmith brand. You were right... It is cheaper. Thanks so much!
It could be that you are holding it at a slight angle vs. totally vertical and that is why one part of the letter is not showing up. Are you hammering on a copper or soft metal blank or something like stainless steel? this could also be an issue. Unfortunately it probably does have to do with technique and it is really just a matter of practice, practice, practice.
The size of the stamp set will really depend on what you want to do with it and what aesthetic you like best. For a beginner, larger letter might be a bit easier, but it is more about just practicing and learning the technique. Here is the stamp set used in the video: 27 Piece Uppercase Handwritten Alphabet Letters A-Z Punch Set For Metal 2mm (SKU: XTL-0752). The link for it is located in the video description underneath this video.
We used 8mm jump rings for this project. Our project page has a list of all the supplies: www.beadaholique.com/personalized-name-stamped-mother-s-necklace.html
Hi I'm wanting to start making these myself for friends. what type/font of stampede did you use in this video and what other equipment do you think I will need? what metal weight/type etc did you buy and where did you get it from? I'm in northern Ireland in the UK so a lot of listings on this are from the USA. Thanks. Gemma

Hi, I am new to metal stamping and am planning on getting the Impressart metal stamping kit from the Beadaholique store. May I know whether a rubber block is necessary as well? Thank you!
When I am stamping I don't get the full letter. I thought at first I wasn't stamping hard enough so I hit harder, but that didn't work. Any suggestions?
Purple Cupcakes Yes, the Sharpie ink will wear off over time. I do not have a lot of experience tumbling jewelry so I can't really comment on the effects that tumbling would have.

Cherie1805 The rubber bench is used to absorb the shock of the hammering and to protect table surfaces.
May I ask where you buy your supplies? Thank you!
