    ABOUT US:
Mormon Stories Podcast is the longest-running and most successful podcast in Mormonism - hosted by Dr. John Dehlin. At Mormon Stories we explore, celebrate, and challenge Mormon culture through in-depth stories told by members and former members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We also occasionally interview scholars, authors, LDS apologists, and other professionals. Our overall mission is to: 1) Facilitate informed consent amongst LDS Church members, investigators, and non-members regarding Mormon history, doctrine, and theology, 2) Support Mormons (and members of other high-demand religions) who are experiencing a religious faith crisis, and 3) Promote healing, growth and community for those who choose to leave the LDS Church or other high demand religions.
Mormon Stories Podcast is a product of the Open Stories Foundation - a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to supporting Mormons in religious transition.

If I could just slide an example in here. Leviticus 25 44-46 lays out laws for owning people as property for their entire life. Like slavery. And I just cant imagine a law so immoral coming from a good god.

    • @bodyofhope
      @bodyofhope Год назад +25

@@youtubespag don't forget the context. God had just freed the Hebrews from Egypt. They knew nothing but slavery. There was no word for employer, employee. The words for worker was slave. The word for employer was master.
In Exodus and Leviticus, there were guidelines written bc ppl were treating one another horribly. Just as badly as they had been treated while they had been enslaved-- bc it's ALL THEY KNEW.
These were new guidelines to follow, to get them out of their former patterns.
Leviticus was meant for the Hebrews coming out of generations of brutal slavery- to break old habits, and build new rules for a new society.
The 10 Commandments was God's law.
But the rest is what the Hebrews kept asking for. More and more more guidelines bc they wanted ongoing clarification from God on right/wrong in their new society.
God is a good God who, while frustrated with them, continued to answer all of their most nit picky questions.
Now we have Christ, the one God sent so we don't have to follow this little guideline, that little rule, sacrifice this, honor this and that holy day perfectly, etc.
      Christ covers these for us.
      God is a good God.
Everything good we know and feel in this world is from God.

    • @youtubespag
      @youtubespag Год назад +8

@@bodyofhope nah you're mistaking the context. Dont try and call someone you own as property for life and beat an employee. It's a slave. And that's what I'm talking about. Did you know that's what the bible says? Your interpretation is pretty unbiblical bro. Where did it say moses asked god for slaves? I only ask because I've been looking at this context for a while and it's weird to get called out for missing made-up context.
I think it's weird to say jesus told us that we dont have to follow the old rules when he specifically said that those rules were not fulfilled yet, not until heaven and earth no longer exist, then its fulfilled. Since that's not the case his words in matthew indicate the law still stands.

You can read about this in the book of Jasher .
This was a book that was in our Bibles but was removed because the Roman Catholic Church thought it wasn't important enough for us to know about it .
Even though the book of Joshua mentions the book jasher .
After the languages were confused, people divided up went to different parts of the country and started building God's made of their own hands and bowing down to them .
Each new God came a new religion. Therefore they started worshiping created rather than the creator .
They were doing this when went Paul at Athens They had a god on every corner and a religion and Paul said I see you Men are very religious. They even had a temple built to our unknown god in case they miss one and it was there that Paul preached the messiah being the unknown God to them .

One thing that bothered me was my close friend was out of work and really down on her luck. Her landlord was a Mormon bishop and he sent some women from the church to talk to her and "help"her and her kids, But only if they joined the church and be babtised. When I first arrived in my mission area I was asked if I had an ongoing relationship. I laughed and said I had broken up with all of them before I left. It was a bit of a joke because I wasn't seriously dating anyone, but they wanted to be more serious with me. I didn't want that stress so I just let all the guys I was seeing know. Well, my mission presidents wife asked me two more times if I was seeing anyone. I had sudden health problems ( I ended up having to go home and haven't recovered five years later) and it was a big deal for some reason that I had mentioned a guy I had liked to my sister training leader. They thought I was lying about being in a relationship. She even went as far as to CALL MY MOM and ask if had a secret relationship I wasn't telling them about. It made the stress of having to deal with a horrible mystery illness that much worse. There were even rumors in the mission that I went home to get married. I don't have a good explanation as to why they thought this. I didn't talk to any guy more than I needed to and didn't even have a mission crush. And I’m gonna put it this way her mother knew she was telling the truth cause she knew things she wouldn’t of known otherwise. Worst part she had a restraining order against him (btw he had 6 kids with the mom most under the age of 6) but because it was church grounds they didn’t imply it in there and allowed him in the same building which was very small for a church worst part (I was 9 when this came out) I would be standing next to her and he would come up stand next to me (she’s standing the other side of me) or across from her and start talking to someone either next to her or across from us and no one did anything but put all the blame on her for how she dressed and acted like she was the one in the wrong for saying anything like it was all her fault and tbh for years after you could see how much this affected her like she had to leave the church which she didn’t want to but she couldn’t deal with him harnessing her basically in the church but because it was on “church” grounds that made it okay apparently. Sorry this still bothers me for people who say they accept everyone and don’t judge man they judged her they made the entire situation way worse by how they treated her how they didn’t do anything and then try to tell me I was the one in the wrong when I had a go at him about harassing her and how he was a rapist at 13 only time I’ve ever sworn in a church Ngl so yer and this was in Ireland it’s messed up

      Actually it's the 12th century....
When it comes down to a lot of the world's conflicts right now everything Originates from the 12th century.
12 centuries when marriage became a concept.
12th century is when the Moore's society invaded Sicily creating the animosity between Europe and Africa.
The 12th century is when Africa forced Greeks to worship black gods.
The 12th century is when what you can describe as the race to create the world church started.
The 12th century is when the days of the week were created.
And even that was done in a level of disrespect.
Because technically Wednesday is the 1st day translates into odin day.
Sunday is the 4th day of the week meaning the day in which the Lord created light.
Tuesday Tuesday is the son of odin I forget his name but he also represents the sky and war.
And the purpose for that is to basically tell everybody whether they believe in God or not if they didn't Practice the Catholic denomination And they worship the Lord on any other day than Sunday then they would be worshipping a false God.
The 12th century is when christians separated themselves from the Catholic's.
I mean really if you want to know all the truths and get past all the lies when it comes down to church governments and world order just look at the 12th century it answers all your questions.

You know, I really think this all depends on where you're living. I grew up in a family of LDS members, however my immediate family wasn't. My mom smoked, my grandma and a couple aunts smoked, they gambled and drank occasionally. But then there were the other Aunts and Uncles that were extremely active in the church. They never treated anyone differently. Even my highly active Uncle and Aunt put in a space heater in their garage at Christmas for the family that smoked. Oh, and I decided to go to church on and off when I was between 25 and 35. Different churches. My boyfriend and I had a son, lived together and was welcomed and treated like family at the 1st church. We ended up getting married by the Bishop. There's more to the story that contradicts how people expect them to behave. Anyway, we moved to Washington and decided to try out the local church. It was awesome. The Elders and Sisters were AMAZING!!! OH! And guess what, I always wore dress pants to church. Dresses make me uncomfortable. The ladies just said, "Hey! You might start a new trend!" I always said, " The Lord doesn't mind what I wear as long as it's appropriate. He cares that I actually made it." I'd probably have continued to go, except my social and anxiety disorder finally got too bad. I'm still working on it.
I do acknowledge that there are areas were they go way too far in their judgment. Not realizing that judgment against others in itself is sinful.

@@lamoskgr You're very right. It's not the case for everyone. It's extremely unfortunate that different "bubbles" do things their own way. When the Church should act as one unit. But it doesn't. No religion does though if you think about it. There is good and bad in all. Some don't take it seriously enough, while others take it way too seriously. Yet, they're all supposed to be part of the same religion. Or at least, Christianity. So, for me personally I've decided that I'm just going to be the best person I can be. I know I'll make mistakes, but God knows me. Isn't that what really matters? The LDS Church isn't horrible, it's certain circumstances that can make it that way. Just like every other religion, job, school, etc. How we deal with them and react is what matters. Continue by being the best person you can be, pray wherever you want to, after all the entire world is God's house right? And don't let others determine who you are.

And at the same time I know a Missionary who left the church because he was told he shouldn't masterb@#& and that he needed to strive to overcome it. His argument was that it was natural and he shouldn't' have to change. That is the same argument for everyone who leaves the church. They don't want to change they want the church to change to suit them. The whole point of this life is to progress spiritually back to the creator who sired us and sent his Son to lead us back. Forget your stupid pride and humble yourself. Of course the church is full of imperfect people. If you want to use that as an excuse to justify your own actions you are only screwing yourself. So quit your bitchin and moanin and suck it up and do the hard work to repent and come unto Christ. Ultimately whether you Sin in one way or another God loves us infinitely because we are his children. You will regret the sins you choose to justify but he'll love you just the same.

This would imply agreed and lust for glory and many human traits that a being of energy would have no need for so this is all lies regardless of the religion. That is not spirituality to seek redemption through material possessions. If God is everywhere and everything you don't need austenticious temples and churches you can worship in a field or anywhere really so long as you truly connect to the source you'd get redemption.
