Wonderful that you include your health and safety info on your board. I'm often shocked when I see some of the face painters in my city who don't pay any attention to keeping the kiddos safe. I think that perhaps they are in "family mode"... sharing germs is normal and not even considered. To my mind we face painters, as adults, need to pay extra attention to this detail... face painting is supposed to be for fun, but it isn't when stuff gets spread around. I list H & S on a panel of my pamphlet for parents to take home and take into consideration if thinking of hiring me for an event of their own. Also, it's wonderful that you go through the pros for each of the types of boards for beginners. Nice video... thanks for sharing. :)
So helpful. I have my first event this weekend and I noticed your board in your set up video and was perfect way since I'm new and this video couldn't have come at the best time thank u
I just love all of your ideas and designs. I am kind of intrigued about your mom, you mention her several times during the video but I do not know her, who she is? besides that Thank you for sharing your ideas I really appreciate them.
Love this! they look so smart i use words with a little cartoon pic on- I actually brought a huge pin board the other day for 50p so i think ill paint it and do this :) thanks Ashlea xxx
This one time, I did an event where there would be children who spoke French (and my French is not good enough to understand children), so I chose to make a board with cartoon pictures of the things I usually paint. That way, I didn't have to do exact copies of the pictures, and we wouldn't get stuck with language barriers as the kids could simply point at the thing they wanted. But I do love to get crazy special requests so I can try something new :)
Great and very helpful information, thank you. Are you using Photo Shop? What size are the photos on your board? I'd be interested in seeing a series of videos of your festival eye designs. I do love your teaching...very clear and concise, and always lovely designs.
hi my name is jazmin and i love you board designs u made lots of sense just starting my business and you are right about eevolving and making better paintings so true ..loved your policy you think you can do a close up would like to make one for myself ....thanx youve helped alot 💜
Hi Ashlea, I really like your menue board ideas. I would like to have pic mixed in with my words but i have no pics. I have seen some boards with it looks like colored pics. Can you help me with that?
Do you have a copy of what the health and safety part says its really good to have that to back you up if you do get in a bit of trouble with a customer. Love the idea.
Quick question! What is the size of the black background board? Seems like you've picked the perfect size for displaying full pages or half page printouts. Amazing job, thank you!
Love the idea of just being able to order the cards directly from your site...(cuz I am super lazy!), but there just aren't enough to choose from....will you be offering more of them in the future??
The idea is that you shouldn't need too many, I have 12 and that covers pretty much every face I can think of. You can paint numerous designs from one word card. Do you have any suggestions, which other ones would you like and I'll see what we can do.
Ashlea Henson Well I hope I don't name some that you already have! lol...without it in front of me I might! A few that I would need would be Mermaid, Dragon, Unicorn, Octopus, Shark and Alien. And just some blank ones would be great too so that new movies could be addressed. Whether you can offer these or not, I just love watching your videos...thank-you so much for sharing them with us!
Thanx Ashlea, nice to see your face again! I just got a notification to say you have just put on a new vid and I got all excited, both boards are a fab idea! I'm guessing your mum doesn't print the Name cards on a standard printer? When will you be putting another painting vid up? Xxx
Georgie Porgie Takyi Thank you, yes she just uses her home printer, it is a pretty good one though. I'm hoping to have a painting tutorial up next week :D
how do you make sure that everyone reads the Health and safety regs ? if the sign is at your table...and they join the queue at the end of the long line i dont realise theres rules until they reach your table ?
starting out in face painting, and I'm doing a lot of research but i cannot find what i need so hopefully you can help! during a session (kids party) and u have your dirty water and u want to change it during the gig, WHERE DO YOU DUMP IT? do u excuse yourself, go to bathroom to dump? dump in their lawn? take a bucket w/u for dirty water??
Patsy Cline I went to a course this week and they said it is very unprofessional to dump your water at the clients site. They said you should have extra jars ready to go in your set that you switch out. They recommend 1x jar for your black brushes, 1x for your white, 1x for colours, and a fresh one that you use just for extra water on your brush when loading. When you pack up, you take your dirty water with you. Jars must have lids of course.
Do you lay the boards up against the front of your table? I did a search on 'face paint display boards' and then clicked on 'images' to see how people are setting up their boards (or signs, samples of work, banners, etc.) in relation to everything else and the few I found are in front of everything, hiding the painter/subject chairs and most everything else. I would think the actual painting would attract customers and that you and the subject would need to be front and center, not covered up, with boards off to the side, but I haven't seen any set up that way yet. If face painting is anything like caricature drawing, the mere act itself is considered 'entertainment' and people like to watch before they decide to have it done. Do you have the written text of your board disclaimers (the legal stuff) typed up anywhere so we can see exactly what they say? At 3:00 it sounds like you say that some people will paint over 14's without their parents but that you won't. Did you mean to say under 14s? What is 'blue tack' at 5:54?
These are useful:Health Policy - before joining the queue: The client or child must have clean abrasion-free skin, and must not have conjunctivitis, eczema, dermatitis lice, cold sore, cold or flu, acne, chicken pox or any other infection. However, the client can request body paint on the arm. Parents / guardians are to supervise their child while being painted at all times. We do not paint a child’s face if they are younger than three years old. 3-4 yrs will have a simple design and if they cant sit still then the artist has the right to stop even in the middle of work. If the client or child has sensitive skin, food allergies or reactions to soaps, creams, dyes, please advise the artist who may perform a small patch test first, or may choose not to paint the child.
I see you offer your health & safety card in your online shop, however for those of us living internationally the cost is prohibitive. ie for a Canadian to have you ship internationally just that one laminated sheet worth 3.50 pounds ($6.99) would be 32.75 pounds = $65.40 Canadian in total according to your shipping rates. Although I think it's a brillant idea, who can afford that! Would you consider offering it for say 1.50 pounds as a paid download then the laminating etc is our responsibility. Or perhaps just share it as others have asked for. Just a thought. Cheers
well originally I was trying to figure out an option to support her in her business and just let her know how the shipping costs actually break down. There was no need to post a snotty response.
Wolf Widow I think they have some wording on their website for health and safety. Don't copy it word for word.. get an idea and change it up. You can then print and get a local printing shop to laminate for you. Not sure what you mean when you consider the international shipping. Hope this helps 😊
I've been doing this for years, and I love the idea of the word board. I hate taking picture boards because then it's all you end up doing. 100 identical butterflies... boring!
what if a child is desperate for e.g. a parrot or a monkey and you know you can't do it? They are bound to ask for things which aren't on the board. Thx
Hi Ashley, it seems like many people are asking questions on this site and most never get answered. I know you are busy but it would be helpful to see your answers to these questions. It's appreciated that you share your knowledge with us.
Unfortunately it's very hard to answer everyone, I get hundreds of questions each day over all of my social media platforms and I can't keep up with them all. I generally don't answer questions that I have already addressed in videos or that can easily be answered with Google as I simply don't have the time. I've mentioned before that's it's much easier to for me to reply on Facebook, the reply feature here on RUclips sucks, however I still can get through all the questions. I'm trying my best :(
Left a message on your facebook page but I will ask a shortened version of it here. Can the website you mentioned create price cards that reflect US prices?
WHYYYYYY have you got 'FREE' Facepainting ? that upsets me , if its free you are PAYING to paint , if you are being SPONSORED then put SPONSORED by ... not FREE .. other than that great video xx
Woahhh, easy! I understand what you're saying, but my sign isn't wrong. The service is free to the customers who will be reading it. Having said that, I've actually already changed it to 'sponsered' as was suggested to me by another painter a couple of months ago. I hadn't really given the wording much thought until she mentioned it.
you know what .. i knew in my heart you would've reconsidered that by now , but in a way i was writing this to get the message out to others .. by the way i love your work and yes i could've been less boisterous about my initial comment but theres a big part of me against the word 'free' in our industry
+Pierangela Manzetti I'd honestly not even thought about it, we've used the same wording on our boards for 25 years and I didn't even give it a second look. I think it's much better now but I did still keep the word 'free' just so it's clear to the customers, especially children who may not know what 'sponsored' means. Mine now says 'FREE FACE PAINTING - Sponsored by the event organisers' ☺☺☺

Thank you for sharing this! I never thought about the health & safety tips :)
So helpful. I have my first event this weekend and I noticed your board in your set up video and was perfect way since I'm new and this video couldn't have come at the best time thank u

I am so grateful for all the information you are providing 🙏
Great tips thanks! I think I'm going to create a board with words, then put a couple of pictures at the top to make it eye catching (best of both 😉)
I love that you have a Health and Safety Alert on your board. How SMART! By chance would you mine sharing in more detail?

Great video Ashlea. Really useful info.
Important and helpful info! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
This was very helpful. I am just finding my feet and this is a great way to do them for the future. Thank you :)

Hi, your link for your name cards doesn't work? Loved the video and really helped. Thank you
Do you have separate shots of your display board pieces? I'd just like to see what they say
Great and very helpful information, thank you. Are you using Photo Shop? What size are the photos on your board?
I'd be interested in seeing a series of videos of your festival eye designs. I do love your teaching...very clear and concise, and always lovely designs.
Great idea! What size board is that? I have what we call foam board but it's standard size yours looks bigger.
hi my name is jazmin and i love you board designs u made lots of sense just starting my business and you are right about eevolving and making better paintings so true ..loved your policy you think you can do a close up would like to make one for myself ....thanx youve helped alot 💜

What website can I purchase the word signs?

BioHazardUz16 Thank YOU! :)
This is awesome babe, thank you
Where did you get this board from
A M E L I A -T U T O R I A L S It's from B&Q.
Thanks you for this video! I'd love a display board like yours . . . Is it a picture frame, or a wooden board? I'm not sure how to google that board.
Do you lay the boards up against the front of your table? Are u the model for snazaroo?
I was the artist for Snazaroo a couple of years ago ☺
just a quick question, do you have to have parent/guardian permission to take photos of your work to put on display board please? x
Yes you should get them to sign a release form granting you permission to use the image. I totally forgot to mention that, bummer!
nice board! :)
you aew amaaaazing!
What are the Dimensions of the boards?
Very helpful, thank you
your links to the product is not working properly for the the States
This video is 8 years old, I don’t think the company sells them anymore
Also are the pictures photo copied on paper or are they real photos? X
Georgie Porgie Takyi they are just printed out from the computer :D xx
Gostaria tanto de saber o que esta falando, sera que eu consigo traduzir o áudio, se alguém souber me avise ?
Do you paint people with acne or can you not?
Catherine Mallett I personally would not recommend that. Painting their arm or hand would be better.
I just places a large order for those signs wooo woo thank u
Great info
hi! your links aren't working :(

Vicky Loveday I have a note at the end of my board saying I may refuse special requests for any reason
I would like to buy some word cards. That's a great idea and I don't have a printer. I'll look you up. :D
very very helpful

It's really good but under 14 most people over 12 don't even like face paints anymore
That's definately not the case in my area. We paint hundreds of teenagers and adults (mainly girls). They all want the pretty festival eye designs.
Oh okay I suppose .here if you are 12 + you can't have face painting or else people think your a baby 😂😂😂
+paulina luzan I'm 23 and I love getting my face painted lol
face painted an adult family of 5 at my mall gig. each one a different animal.
