    I love peanuts. I know they aren't the best health-wise, but they are a weakness of mine. Once I start eating them I find it hard to stop. And when I do eat them I at least rationalize that they are replacing something worse I could be snacking on, like junk food, chips, cookies, candy, etc.

    I rarely have nuts on hand because I lose self control and eat too many of them. I do allow peanut butter and once in a while buy peanuts or Macadamia nuts. Good to know walnuts are a good choice too. Like any good thing you can over do it. One thing I know is after you get fat adapted you crave fats not sugar or other carbs. When I am hunger now I do not think of donuts but celery sticks with natural peanut butter or homemade ranch dressing on them. I am in my sixties but my body has learned keto very fast.

    I've watched videos where they discuss peanuts, and how the peanut quickly absorbs the pesticides, fertilizers and any other element in the soil making them relatively unhealthy in that aspect. Pistachios also are rife with molds and fungus on them, even packaged roasted ones. I would snack on cashews and pistachios early on in keto and noticed zero improvements. The keto only really kicked, where I would see weight loss, in after I shifted away from peanuts, cashews, almonds and pistachios. It's fascinating, the Omega 6 versus Omega 3 discussion. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

    Dr. Ekberg thank you for your detailed, clear and very informative video. I often consume Brazil nuts due to their extremely high selenium content which is supposed to be good for the prostate. I find that if you soak Brazil nuts over night in cold water they are easier to digest and I presume must be healthier. Also please note many nuts are contaminated with aflatoxins! So we should make sure they are properly sourced.

    • @jwoolman5
      @jwoolman5 3 года назад

      You are probably sprouting them a little by soaking, and that usually does make things more digestible. Some manufacturers do provide sprouted nuts and seeds. They don’t look like other leafy sprouts, nothing coming out of them.

    • @jwoolman5
      @jwoolman5 3 года назад

      Aflatoxins are not a big problem in the US. Peanuts and others are tested for it. It was a big problem someplace in Africa some years ago and people got more worried about US peanuts than needed. But as you say, know the source.

I don't have a weight problem and don't have any digestive, intolerance, or allergies. Is it OK to eat 200 grams of walnuts per day? I find it to be an excellent choice: high protein (I am on a plant-based diet so welcome the protein), low-glycemic, and with good fats. I just question whether 200 grams/day is too much. 1:51 Another thing worth noting about Betel nuts is that they’re potentially carcinogenic, at least in the way they’re consumed in many cultures. The long term use of Betel nut quid (mixing it with tobacco) is associated with an almost certain development of oral cancer

    Incredibly usefull video ! What would be interesting to know though : How about the OILS that are sold coming out of all these "nuts" ? Would they classify in the same order ? Probably not because of the bad processing methods for some, and/or the different macronutrients and omega3/omega6 quantities in them compared with the complete nut ? It would be very interesting to know this...

    Question: I would like to know on Keto, is coconut and or almond flour good or bad. Lots of Keto recipes have it. Also on the chance that coconut/almond flour is okay, does yeast change the coconut/ almond flour chemistry to bad, if you make it into bread?

      Almond has a lot of anti nutrients.

    Hi Dr Ekberg! Thank you for another wonderful video! I just want to ask if you can make a video how to improve mood. I feel like after one month of doing Keto, with IF and OMAD I get irritated quickly and my husband says it's because of my changed lifestyle. I don't know what is that I am doing wrong. Is keto / IF/ OMAD causes mood swings? HELP! thanks Dr! ❤️🙏🏻🤗

    Thank you so much. Now, I must take this list and add oxalate content to come up with the best nut for me. I think that macadamia nuts and pistachios are the best. Maybe walnut, too.

    According to several sources on the internet, 100 g hazelnuts contain only 8g omega 6. I avoid eating walnuts because of the huge content of omega 6 but I eat a lot of hazelnuts.

      In german different sources I have found 6g to 7g of omega 6. Maybe american hazelnuts are different from european.

    Thanks Dr Ekberg. I never heard the term "drupes" before. I knew about cashews, but was surprised pistachios were low on the list. I love nuts, too much, so only eat occasionally. Very interesting.

    I eat about 30g of mixed nuts daily- cashews,almonds, pistachio,pecans,walnuts,hazelnuts. So it balances out somewhere I guess

    Just recently followed your channel and not sure if you have an updated list but you forgot about pili nuts. Low carb, high fat, higher than macadamia I believe, and has the perfect ratio of omega 3 and omega 6. Really delicious too.

    Could you please do a video on nut flours, like almond flour coconut flour? I love baking and really want to eat "baked goods" while on a keto/very low carb diet, but am hesitant to.
