@@mparantha same for me and my gramps (he was my best friend who raised me). the last time we watched it in 2013, his dementia was REALLY bad… he often called me by his daughter’s name… but he remembered Ernest the moment the movie started ❤️
I'm 39 BJ and you are definitely younger than me. Ernest was a staple for me and my sisters during my childhood. We watched all of his movies, this one especially. I'm excited to watch you and Asia get into it. A couple small facts about Jim Varney, he's from my home state of Kentucky and he was the voice of the slinky dog in Toy Story and I believe Toy story 2 before he passed. Asia is right, who doesn't love Ernest?! Hey Vern, know what I mean?🤪
This is a funny classic. RIP Jim, thanks for the expression "Hey Vern!" Please continue down the rabbit hole of his films: Ernest Goes To School, Ernest Goes To Camp, Ernest Goes To Jail, Ernest Goes To Africa, Ernest In The Army, Ernest Rides Again, Slam Dunk Ernest, Ernest Goes To Splash Mountain, The Beverly Hillbillies. He's hilarious in every film. Nice reaction. Good choice CalixYukon.
@@scottvanhille5688 I’ve been dying for a reactor to do Beverly hillbillies! It’s funny, I named my childhood dogs jethro and Elle Mae, cause I got them the day after seeing that movie. My current dog is named rimshot after the Ernest movies. He’s literally been the inspiration for 3 of the 5 dogs I’ve owned.
Ernest is probably the most lovable 'annoying' characters ever. Everything he does is out of consideration for everyone else and he's just so loveable. RIP Jim Varney. He was also a classically trained actor, watching him perform Shakespeare is surreal, lol We also have one of the best Santa's ever in a movie from Douglas Seale in my opinion, he also voiced the Sultan in Aladdin
I was born in 91 and can remember watching these at my great aunt and uncles whenever my parents would go over there to play cards😂 Ernest movies and superman. Good old vhs
The Ernest Halloween movie is called Ernest Scared Stupid 😂 also check out Ernest goes to camp and Ernest goes to jail... definitely worth checking out
I loved Ernest. I remember the morning I heard he had passed I was legit sad. I had a moment of silence to myself. He wasn't quite John Candy level for me, but he was pretty close.
I saw this in theaters when it came out and have loved it ever since. and is still my favorite christmas movie and my favorite ernest movie. I try to watch it every year (or at least watch reactions to it). its such a wholesome, goofy, fun time. and with the sweetest santa claus ever put to film. seriously, the actor playing him just killed it. Also, as others have said, Ernest Goes to Camp and Ernest Goes to Jail are both worth watching.
This was my favourite Christmas movie as a kid! Me and my brother still quote back and forth at each other. Every time there’s a hat around, one of us grabs it. “You want one for yer boy?” 🐍🐍🐍
Wow. Haven't thought about him in years. Then the other day he randomly popped in my head. Last night I saw a video about him and now I wake up to this lol
My dog, rimshot, and I watched this yesterday… I watch it every year to remember my gramps who LOVED Ernest. (Rimshot is Ernest’s dog in a few other movies)
I met Jim Varney once when I was a child, my great uncle was friends with him and they came over to the house one night. I don’t remember it very well, but I do remember he was very kind and funny. RIP
@ Then you may have met my great uncle, a blue grass musician, Paul Allen, he grew up and lived in the same area as Jim in KY. Unless you’re attempting to make a joke.
I met Jim Varney once, at the premier of one of his movies. Very nice guy. I had heard that he was trained as a shakespearean actor, so I asked him to do some Shakespeare for me. He proceeded to do the soliloquy from Hamlet as Earnest. It was hilarious. Know what I mean?
@@JB-Deadskins in 1986 he did an April fools prank in coordination with the Reagan administration… he was the White House press secretary for the day. It was brilliant. everything he did was amazing
The first 4 Ernest movies are classics, this is the second one. Goes To Camp was the first one, after this there was Ernest Goes To Jail and the fourth one was Ernest Scared Stupid(the Halloween one). I never saw the later ones. Showing my age too BJ😂
Ernest Rides Again was the next one after Scared Stupid. it was a direct to video movie. small scale and it wasn't too bad. after that they kind of fall off unfortunately.
My dad loved Jim Varney ❤️ he loved Ernest scared stupid was the halloween one and he love the christmas one. I miss my dad all the time now, and Merry Christmas to you both and have a new year. You guys are like family to us all so thank you for amazing videos and also, Jim is very much loved still and i love the old vintage santa with coke. Keep up with the good work and hope you watch more Christmas movies soon.
Man oh man. My grandmother recorded this off of the TV back in the day VCR’s were the latest and greatest. I watching this (with commercials) every Christmas. But I haven’t seen this since the late 90’s. Thanks for reminding me of my childhood.
This is one of my feel good movies!! All of his movies I love. And BJ don't worry he was a childhood favorite too. I'm so glad my A&B loves him too. Have a wonderful Christmas 🎄🌟♥️🙏🏽🤶🏽🎅🏾🎁🕯️🕯️

I love this movie! My family watches this every holiday season since I was a kid. The same with Ernest Scared Stupid (Halloween movie). 🎃 Ernest Goes to Jail is a funny movie that would be a great reaction. This was a fun rewatch with y’all. Merry Christmas and happy Holidays to everyone!! 🎄🎅🏻
A couple of trivia for you guys. The Vern scene is a ref to his TV series "Hey Vern It's Earnest" where he talks to the camera as his buddy Vern. Also from the show is Chet and Bobby the two regulars from the show and almost made an appearance in every Ernest movies
Ernest was in a string of commercials where he interacted with Vern (always off camera) which that whole scene was a tribute too. His “little lady” was his impression of John Wayne. My kids grew up watching g this and all the Ernest movies (I think there are 5) and to this day they still watch and now my grandchildren! Love Ernest! My Father in Law who didn’t laugh out loud a lot always laughed at Ernest and my kids got to see that!
Jim Varney was an amazing actor and person. He visited sick kids in the hospital as Ernest even though he was terminally ill with cancer. He loved entertaining kids and did a lot of make a wish visits. When he found out he had cancer he quit smoking cold turkey (of course it was way too late). Before Jim died he was thinking of moving away from the Ernest persona and doing more serious roles. 16:31 I love the character of Vern cause you never see him and it’s like the audience is his friend. 46:56 he has to start his run at 7pm or else he won’t complete all his deliveries in one night.
I am thrilled that you guys are watching this film. Jim Varney is widely forgotten about, or not featured on tv, for reasons I can’t explain. He was Jim Carrey, before Jim Carrey. 😂

"Ya know what I mean, Vern?" Ernest Goes to Camp "Safety first. That's my motto." was the first Jim Varney movie I had seen back in '87. I died from discovering the Ernest P. Worl character. He also played a wholesome Jed Clampett in The Beverly Hillbillies movie (1993).
Jim Varney was a national treasure!
Absolutely chad of a human being, he was an angel.
He voiced slingly in toys story
Let's remember the man who saved Christmas so other comedians could get their own Christmas movies in the 90's. Jim Varney AKA Ernest P Worall.
