Big up all the south Africans and Kenyans! I am British, Have no clue what is being said.... And i love this song too! Just makes me feel happy and relaxed while listening to it. Love from the UK ❤
@@Cotreyn specifically he is saying men are not expected to be so attached to their mothers in their manhood but he loves home coz it doesn't cost a thing to go back there and its coz of the love and teaching she gave him that he is where he is in life
this sounds so beautiful. i checked the meaning of the lyrics and now i’m in tears. sending my love all the way from the philippines! 🇵🇭 edit: i listened to this again after a year and it still brought me to tears. goosebumps. also, to everyone who commented, hello!
Basic breakdown of the song He's been away working on his music career and now his homesick and missing his mother. His friends are judging this grown ass man for crying for his mom and he's telling them they wouldn't understand. His mom will be happy when he gets home safe with all the dangers in this world. And he's saying he's mom will never die with all the love he has for her and he hopes she lives long enough to see him get married. What he loves about home is that you don't need money to get in and if he didn't have a job and had nothing his mom would still love him. And when times are tough his mom will console him and tell him not to cry and when he's tired his mom will tell him to have a seat and make him something to eat.

Yeah, he's basically speaking on the fact that he finds it pretty funny that he's a grown man who'd still cry for his mother, even though, if the world were to go to shit, she'd still be there to love and protect him even as a 5 year old.
Here are the 'direct' translation of lyrics with no respect to grammar. If there is anything I got wrong or missed, Please reply.... I'll try make changes
Where they say such an old man is crying for his momma...its a universal thing coz usually if you're a guy(adult) and you're too attached to your mom you are regarded as weak especially by your partner, usually they'd tell you to grow a pair...so what he's saying is that people don't usually understand a son-mother bond no matter the age.
To some it all up hun he's just saying he'll never be too old to cry for/ miss his Mama 😭. It's too much 😭😭😭. You've hit the hammer on the nail with regards to the passion 💕

Sending you love dear. hoping that you find some beauty and lessons in the darkness that help you find your way back to the light. Let me know if you ever want to talk.
He killed it on Seasons off the Black Panther soundtrack. I always go back to it. You can feel the emotions of his voice even if you don’t understand his language.
he's basically saying he cant deal with missing his mom. that many might shocked that such a grown man would cry for his mom but they just dont understand. he goes on to say he loves home because everyone accepts you and you dont need money or the flashy things to be seen and taken care of.
Basically, it's about missing his mom, and people asking how a grown ass man is crying for his mom. And how he says home is the one place you can go home with nothing and be fully welcomed. And he hopes his mom lives long enough to see him get married.
This song reminds me of UKZN grad 2019, when one of the graduates walked on the stage with a poster written "This is for you mom❤️" and folks started singing "sebathi indod' endala kangaka ikhalel' uMah wayo" and it was one of the most beautiful moments I've ever seen during a graduation ceremony.
check out the top comments, i heard it many times and i didnt understand anything, but when i was high and checked the comments i saw the translation and my feelings sobered fml
It's amazing to see so many people from all over the world who don't understand a single word but still get how emotional this song is. It proves that there is only one universal language and that is music. Sibonga uthando lwenu. Thank you for your love.
I love the fact that you could have sung any of your songs and you chose to sing about your mom. Umama is a track that made me drive to my mom and hug her because this song is just that humbling. 👍
I just read the meaning and lyrics behind this song. I bow to you Sjava and to all our great mothers! 🙏🏼 Showing love all the way from North Africa. -Oumama
This song proves beyond doubt that music connects us all emotionally, Irrespective of Language , Colour and Creed,. I do not understand a word, but it touches my heart and reaches my soul. I feel his pain, His Joy, His Love. So beautifully produced.
Chilling in university missing my mom back home. And the way he describes a mothers love regardless of what you have or where you are in life is just deep. Love to those who have lost their mothers too.
His saying... Despite bieng a grown man at the end of the day you will miss your mom and cry on her shoulder if you hit rock bottom. His strength is his mom.
For some context: Sjava has previously spoken about how hard he found it when he first moved to Johannesburg to try and make it. That is when he wrote this song. This song is about how much he misses his mom and people will laugh because he is an old man saying he misses his mom. But he knows she will always be there to console him and love him, it doesn't matter whether he has a job or money, she will always love him and welcome him home. It's very common in South Africa for young people to have to leave villages or rural areas to move to the city in search of work, they also usually send money home to support their families. Johannesburg is also a very money driven city.

For those who don't understand the song from all over the world. This is a song about a full grown man who misses his mother. He further appreciates her for what she had done for him. He also touches on his ancestry, when he got home his mother asked him to bring impepo(herb) to thank the ancestors for keeping him safe while in Joburg. This is something that a lot of Zulu /Xhosa still practice today. His mother also thanks Shembe for protecting him. Shembe he is like the prophet Muhammad of the Muslims. Sjava left home to Gauteng, Johannesburg to follow his dream but while being in the midst of hustling he misses his mother...
This gets more powerful every time I listen to it. Especially after I read the translated lyrics. Thank you so much for this. I need to holler at my Mom!
the thing about Sjava is that, even if you dont understand his language, you are still able to pick up the emotions from the way he sings and from his voice.....good artist right there
It's amazing how this beautiful song can touch so many people who don't even know what he's saying. There's comments from all over the world and it makes you really appreciate how universal/emotional a good song can be
Colors yall need to start a label. Your taste in music is impeccable. Music around the world. Different languages and vibes. Glad i found you. No more searching through sound cloud. The vibe is here.
Its how powerful the love of a mother is and how he misses his mom cause he is in Johannesburg trying to make a living and his mom is in Kzn , is the most beautiful song ever. Every South African is sooo proud right now
And thats not even half of what his talking about on the song, he touches on a lot of things like how Black Africans especially Zulu black men are seen as weak for showing love but the gist of the song is about how much he loves his Mom

You know mom, you've got jokes
You'll never leave me while I still love you
It'd be a blessing to me Mom if you'd be there when I get married

Good bumps Everytime
Basic breakdown of the song
He's been away working on his music career and now his homesick and missing his mother.
Thanks

Clément Rose he’s speaking about how he can’t wait to go home because he misses his mother
Yeah, he's basically speaking on the fact that he finds it pretty funny that he's a grown man who'd still cry for his mother, even though, if the world were to go to shit, she'd still be there to love and protect him even as a 5 year old.
Thank you for the love Clèment.

I suggest you watch the official music video to better understand the emotion he is trying to invoke as it gets lost in the English translation.
If there is anything I got wrong or missed, Please reply.... I'll try make changes
👏👏👏👏
Where they say such an old man is crying for his momma...its a universal thing coz usually if you're a guy(adult) and you're too attached to your mom you are regarded as weak especially by your partner, usually they'd tell you to grow a pair...so what he's saying is that people don't usually understand a son-mother bond no matter the age.
Uyayazi into yakho. Thanks
You nailed it mkhaya...

he's basically saying he cant deal with missing his mom. that many might shocked that such a grown man would cry for his mom but they just dont understand. he goes on to say he loves home because everyone accepts you and you dont need money or the flashy things to be seen and taken care of.
Same! Chills all over my body!

Proudly South African 🇿🇦♥️
This is such a beautiful moment for South Africa . ❤️
He is incredibly talented, can transmit an message even if i don't understand what he says, love from Canada ♥️
For some context:
Sjava has previously spoken about how hard he found it when he first moved to Johannesburg to try and make it.
A living South African Legend... proud of you, Hadebe... Bayete.

Just, Thank you Colors to show artists all around this world !

Its how powerful the love of a mother is and how he misses his mom cause he is in Johannesburg trying to make a living and his mom is in Kzn , is the most beautiful song ever. Every South African is sooo proud right now
@@ComeAlongWithLeera thank you for enlightening me! Just makes this song 10 times better!!
Funny im south african and i understand 60% crazzy Country different cultures and stuff but amazin dough
And thats not even half of what his talking about on the song, he touches on a lot of things like how Black Africans especially Zulu black men are seen as weak for showing love but the gist of the song is about how much he loves his Mom
@@undergroundkid8337 Yes we are so diverse its amazing
