- Imagine paying that much money for a bread plate with no bread on it.
In this case, I do NOT want to speak to the manager!
I watched The Menu for the first time, and was left wondering what everyone's tab ended up being.
Enjoy the reaction!

When he says "there are no substitutions at Hawthorne!" It was kinda foreshadowing the fact that margo (anya) was a substitution so she was not allowed to be part of the menu at Hawthorne.
I love that this movie WASN'T about cannibalism. Like, the fact this IS actual food but the meaning to the dishes is just as daunting and foreshadowing is amazing.
I was shocked it wasn't!
Nobody really seemed to have caught that Man's Folly was her stabbing him in the thigh with a pair of shears in the exact same manner he had described earlier that he had done to his own father. It was an acknowledgement that he had become a detestable person like his father and an act of contrition to her by having her stab him.
No, that wasn’t it at all. I get why you’d take that from that scene, but it’s way more complex than that. There’s a girl (doctorcanonVO) who used to be a chef whose reaction to this shows how this film goes so much deeper on levels anyone who has never been a chef could even imagine. I’d recommend checking out her reaction as well if you get a chance. It’s very interesting what she points out. Like how Jeremy’s ‘the mess’ was literally made of blood, sweat, and tears - representation of what he put into his work
@@Hey_Jamie "no you're wrong, here is my opinion based on someone else's opinion, so of course I'm right" girl bffr
I agree with the this to an extent
Wow, horror without the gore. I loved that the final girl wasn't missing an eye or running through a forest, she just got to deliver a FIERCE read, Eat a meal, and walk away! And Ralph is such an amazing actor. As others have mentioned, his take on Francis Dolarhyde in "Red Dragon" is brilliant!! Thanks Nick✌
Miss Anya escaped unscathed and looking SNATCHED. we love to see it.
@@nicksaysboo17I mean that waitress lady did slice the shit out of her arms but yk what atleast Margot stabbed the bitch back
Horror to me is not about gore. Gore can ruin a movie for me and making it more comical. Imagination, tension, anticipation and the unknown is more horrific than what is viewed on screen. What is not shown can be more fear inducing than ohh yeah he got is jaw cut off. Yep there goes his jaw.
"What school did you go to?"
"Brown."
"Student loans?"
"... No."
"I'm sorry, you're dying tonight"
THE WAY I SCREAMED
Elsa was brutal, wasn't she? From "you'll eat less than you desire and more than you deserve" to "tortillas deliciosas" she was in that fine line between hilarious and menacing.
Also Anya Taylor joy, Ralph Fiennes and Hoult! Great performances all around.
And the most mouth-watering cheeseburger in recent memory
The “tortillas deliciosas” got me
Oh she was fully unhinged, more so than the chef
My favorite thing about this movie is the fact that Anya insisted that the writers let her react more like viciously when she found out that Tyler had knowingly signed her up to die - her coming across that table and punching him was an Anya Taylor Joy special and I really love that
Emulsions are liquids made out of two ingredients which normally wouldn't mix. Oil and water is a common combination. Lots of salad dressings are emulsions of oil and vinegar. So basically critic lady pointed out a salad dressing had settled and separated into oil and vinegar on her breadless bread plate, and chef served her even more separated salad dressing as an extra middle finger.
Thank you for explaining that!
@@nicksaysboo17 Glad I could help!
You know, there was originally a scene where the critic was basically waterboarded with the broken emulsion, but it was considered too harsh and aggressive for the movie, so they cut it.
@@ZukoHalliwell Yeah, I can see why. I think that would have been way too much for the joke they were trying to make with it, too.
@@ZukoHalliwell And yet, they kept "The Mess", "Taco Tuesday", "Man's Folly", and "Handle the Finger".
You being upset about the bread plate with no bread throughout the movie was the best part 😂
But this is why I couldn't go to a high class fancy restaurant. Cause why am I paying all this money for paint swatches on a plate?
They'd tell you it's for the "experience". I can experience bread for a lot cheaper than $1,250!
@@nicksaysboo17 we can't eat experience lol
lol I've done fine dining once in my life. It cost $250 NZ dollars and I left so hungry I had to go to McDonald's after and get a burger 😂😅 I will say the restaurant was beautiful and had an incredible view but the food was too small and taste like nothing 🥲
Imo, those high class fancy restaurants are way more about appearing as a high-end art gallery rather than actually serving food. It's never really been about serving food to be eaten and enjoyed - it's about aesthetic more than anything.
18:00 what’s more hilarious about using the SVU sound is that The Wife is a judge on SVU, that had me in tears🤣🤣
I gotta say, Ralph goddamn Fiennes! I was in awe of him while watching this movie a few weeks back. His character was so cold and dead and terrifying, and YET I felt for his character when he was cooking that juicy ass cheeseburger and he all of a sudden felt.. human? Just so good. Fantastic performances from everyone. But Fiennes stood out to me.
One small thing I adore is The Chef(who is a bad guy by the way like hes still a killer) but he doesn't look down on Erin for being a SexWorker which was just really cool. Doesn't miss a beat and commiserates with her. They are both in the service industry of dealing with people, both are workers who used to lose what they do now they just kinda do it. I guess Emma Stone was originally attached to this part but had other engagements and tho i'd love to see what she could bring to the part Anya just nails it. Been a fantastic horror girl since The Witch and she is always welcome in the genre as far as i'm concerned she does it so well. So good in Split too
Anya is just a better Emma Stone at this point.
The best misconception of The Menu was that we all thought they were eating people until the truth hit.
Elsa was iconic, too bad she couldn't let it go... I mean come on her repeating "these are tortillas..." With sass was everything. Definitely was a cult 😂
THE KILL BILL MUSIC WHEN he said shut up and eat 😂😂
When Anya clapped at the end 👏 I was like ‘lubricate’ 🥂 ‘read that bitch’
So basically, point of this movie is - if you can't afford 1250 dollars worth of dinner, and you don't have anyone who will take you there - you get to live to see another day. Ok, suddenly I'm glad I'm poor. 😅
Even if I was rich I would never lol
"Not some fancy deconstructed avant bullshit, a REAL cheeseburger". I can relate with that with a few "artsy" films I've seen that I didn't enjoy and to see an entertaining movie that was just good dumb fun was a breath of fresh air.
I love that even if she was trying to fight for her life, she was still dragging people 😅
Tyler is the character I was glad got his "just desserts". He was those entitled little bastards who snaps at a random customer at a Whole Foods to help him grab items from his list because he's too good to find them himself.
They need to resurrect him and kill him again.
“This is what trauma looks like” took me out lmao!
Yesssss!!! My mom and I just watched this a couple of days ago, and the entire time we were filled with anxiety like "wtf is going on?!" but when ms thing revealed that the knew that everyone was gonna die and he STILL brought ms anya with him.....we both almost whooped his ass through the screen 😭😭 we were GAGGED, i loved every second tho :)
That man would have been dead far before Voldemort got to him, lemme tell you that!
Ralph Fiennes' character is like Jigsaw, but if Jigsaw was actually called out for his bullshit and conceded.
After all the times I've watched it, I just realized "it's impossible for you to fill up because I've accounted that in the portions" is a double meaning, since you can't fill up if you're dead.
So it's also a nice foreshadowing to how Margot escapes: by going off menu and getting a bigger portion than what was accounted for; allowing her to take the rest to go (i.e. realize in between she also needs to see chef when he was at his happiest to see what she needs to do. I'm just focusing on that particular moment since it's hardly ever talked aboutl)
the smore dessert scene was based on RALPH FIENNES actual reaction to learning what a smore was (since he is british he didn t know what one was)
Ralph and Anya had so much chemistry. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for Anya. Thing is she could retire right now and still go down as a generational talent.
This was one of my favourite movies of 2022!
My favourite character was Elsa! Her condescending but professional mannerism had me rolling! I was living for her when she was explaining what the tortillas were 😂 chef was incredible too and has quickly become one of my favourite villains of all time 👏🏼
Anya's beauty is so otherworldly. I could stare at her face all day.
These are TORTILLAS.... BEST LINE
Chef girl: Everybody dying thing was my pitch.
Nick: Well that makes sense coming from somebody with those bangs.
🤣
That cheeseburger though!
She should be in jail for those bangs.
28:55 They said at the beginning of the movie. $1,250/person. That’s why she asked if they were eating Rolex’s
Thank you for this reaction, Nick (and David)! I had to pause to answer the emulsion question: an emulsion is a mixture of liquids that don’t easily mix, like oil and cream, oil and water, etc. If an emulsion breaks, the liquids separate again. If you’ve ever had leftover pasta with a cream sauce and microwaved it or gotten it too hot too quickly, you’ve probably witnessed a broken emulsion. The funny thing is that (to my eyes at least), the emulsion that Janet McTeer’s character is disappointed with doesn’t appear to be broken at all.
Anya’s dress, jewelry, hair And makeup gave me Life!!! 🤩😍
"What does it mean?"
"It means a lot to the chef who's art turns to shit in your gut."
That is when I knew everyone in that restaurant were all fucked.
As soon as I saw that tarp, girl.
I love that this film doesn’t go where you think it’s going to go, my sick mind thought they would literally be eating the rich. The scene where she goes full Karen is my favourite, what is said without saying anything was brilliant, it was just two service workers, giving each other an experience, making him finally feel finally fulfilled and saving her.
"I would've sent back everything, the plate, the table itself" LMAO
Tyler photographing his food even though he knows he's going to die 😂
Anya is nothing but ethereal. Perfection
Also loved the Hannibal joke considering he was in red dragon lol
"Is he playing John Leguizamo here? Is he playing himself?" The writers originally wanted Daniel Radcliffe playing Daniel Radcliffe for this part, but that was nixxed due to scheduling conflicts. What a shame! It would have been so effing hilarious!
Actually, it was John Leguizamo playing Steven Seagal, who he worked with once and loathes to this day.
@@GlennWH26 And with good reason! Seagal is a disgusting creep and a lousy actor. All my homies hate Steven Seagal!
There’s supposed to be a scene towards the end that was cut, of Lillian Bloom (the food critic lady) and she was supposed to get water boarded by the broken emulsion she was complaining about, hence why she was more “wet” after getting set on fire as a human s’more 😅👀 also if nobody has said, Daniel Radcliffe almost had a role in this, and he would’ve played himself as a character in this. That would’ve been so much fun. But still liked how this final version turned out. I do wish to have seen the Lillian water boarding part with the emulsion😅😂😂
Ahh i loved this movie! Anya, Hong and Ralph along with the rest of the cast were fantastic!
My brother does wine reviews and at one point I edited some of his work. There are sometimes things like "notes" of petrol (gasoline), cat pee, manure. leather. dusty flowers.... These wines are the acquired tastes of wine collectors and wine nerds, not people who just want a delicious drink.
I first saw and enjoyed Nicholas Hoult (Tyler here, Beast in the X-Men series) in the zombie romantic comedy Warm Bodies--which is really good and he makes some great choices in his physicality as a zombie--and have been enjoying his film appearances ever since.
Omg, I forgot that was him in Warm Bodies!

Whenever I eat a cheeseburger, from now on, I will be thinking of this movie.
From what I’ve heard from a lot of chefs, and in person, the Man’s Folly dish sounds absolutely exquisite. It’s made of a lot of ingredients that most chefs don’t know what to do with because they’re used to compliment dishes and never the main ingredients. But the way they’re placed together here would be something from the heavens.
It also reflects the plot point itself, where all of these men quickly abandoned the women for their own lives, and what is left? All of these women that have been described as side pieces to their own individual stories, but together they are their own entree. Paired with lovely irony as the men flee for their lives in “Man’s Folly”
My Gastronomy teacher put this movie on a dead time, was so fckng incredible and shocking
Ralph Fiennes` performance in this movie was amazing, it gave me American Psycho meets Man vs Food.
Chef was unhinged...
But his hand never ended anyone’s life but his own.
#truth
*he did whisper Beast into hanging himself.. but his hands didn’t put the rope around Beasts neck.
**ok ok. He did orchestrate the whole mess.. but those fools were paying $1250.00 per person. . for no bread bread ... but I hear they do have picturesque tortillas ..👏

The makeup lady (Val Garland) was in the makeup competition show called Glow Up. Very entertaining show
Haha. I was known in my family as the hoover vacuum. That makes me smile to know I am not the only one.
Some people don't have time to waste with food!
Despite some hilarious theories, what foreshadowing precision, down to the "ding dong" detail. Also, your commentary never fails to make me laugh - to the point that I have to pause the video at times!
Loved this flick. Was in the industry for years and it struck a chord. Reaction had me laughing out loud : ).
Hahah David (zz) requested this so you could both watch each other's reactions without having to catch up, I just know it!
Ralph Fiennes' movie recommendations:
Red Dragon, the Hurt Locker, Schindler's List, the Prince of Egypt, and Wallace and Gromit the Curse of the Wererabbit. If you can track down any films of his old theater work, do that, too. He started doing Shakespeare in the 80s, I'm sure you can find some beauties there
Red Dragon is 100% happening soon!
Ralph Fiennes is just amazing. Reminds me of Vincent Price. Fiennes brothers are great actors too.
this is the first reaction of yours i have seen and i just cant stop watching it. you are Hilarious. love the shade being offhandedly thrown. thank you.
Thanks for watching! 🥂
I heard Daniel Radcliffe was supposed to play as the movie star so we could have had a mini Harry Potter reunion
But John Leguizamo played the character so well :))
He based the character on the king of cheesy action films, Steven Segall.
I just finished watching the movie, and have no words! I actually really enjoyed the whole concept. Ready to watch your reaction!!💚🖤
The Grand Budapest Hotel is a gorgeous movie starring voldemort if you wanted to see him in more stuff
i’ve been waiting for this omg lets goooo!!! discovered you from your hannibal reactions but love the content! keep it up ☺️
Hannibal still bringing everyone together!
this movie is fancy food version of Midsommar. tbh I thought this movie was about to be like Fresh.
I lost count of the times you made me crack up 😂😂😂😂😂 you're movie reactions always gives give me a good laugh. This was one hororr movie I taught I wasn't going to enjoy but I did.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, friend!
I loved this movie! The tortilla part floored me!
Definitely when she says tortilla with the accent when the dude keeps asking what it is 😅🤣
@Coco Tyler Elsa’s clam response was soooo good. I was like oooooooooh
@@nicksaysboo17 she was giving me all the snark with just one word "tortiyyyaaaa"
I first read the script to this movie (blacklist script - many noticeable and good changes) and when I got to the end, I was just like “that was an interesting survival method” they gave it much better context in the shooting draft
Now I'm curious to know the differences!
@@nicksaysboo17
Margot wasn’t an escort
There was no Chase scene or a “man’s folly” dish.
Tyler was originally named “Craig” and he wasn’t as entitled
The food critic was a man
“Tyler” was forced into being the dishwasher and died in the fire, his bullshit still happens.
There was no fight between Margot and the Matre D (Elsa)
A camera crew was part of the guest list to film a doco about Chef Slowik
Don't see a comment about it so I thought I'll add in: the Hamburger Howie picture, I recognize that young Ralph picture (from my early internet forum days) so I'm pretty sure they Photoshopped the face onto other people's body. It does look realy good though!
I went and saw this movie multiple times. 5:49 That's because it is. Michelin-starred chef, Dominique Crenn, who was featured on Netflix's Chef's Table, was hired to work on the film in the creation of its menu & look. Will you be watching Possessor: Uncut (2020), Renfield (2023), Triangle of Sadness (2022), Re-Animator (1985), The Cell (2000), Cube (1996), American Gods (S1 only)?
I heard John Legizamo is Steven Segal.
The Menu was an interesting movie which I enjoyed watching it, I love your new profile btw.
Thanks!
OMG!! I loved this movie!! Thanks for the video, Nick! 💖
Thanks for watching Christina!
This movie had the perfect final confrontation. No fight, no chase, she just figured out how to reach out to him and emotionally manipulated her way into being let go. This movie is *chef's kiss*
Do you edit your own videos? The random cutaway bits kill me lmao
this movie was incredible and so glad that you are reacting to it cannot wait to see more
Haven't checked this one out, yet, but will have to. Always fun seeing Nick's reactions. I need to finish Hannibal so I can watch those last few tho. But Anya is always amazing. Oh and Nick, Voldemort also played in Red Dragon (the movie with Edward Norton as Will Graham).
I can't wait to get to that movie on the channel! 🥂
You know Hannibal would be having a blast right then and there
tyler was having a ball in that restaurant😭
So, I want to do this. Like, take revenge on my enemies. I don't want to kill them though. I just want to invite them to an island, serve them food laced with laxatives, leave the island and savor the thought that I took all the toilet paper with me.
Ok, so I might need therapy, and stop taking allergy medication that makes me think it's ok to share my thoughts with others.
Love your video!
Honestly, I'm not mad at your plan 🤷🏼♂️
I was so surprised to see Aimee Carrero from Young & Hungry, one of the best shows from Free Form. Definitely a show to check out. I think you might like it.
I'll look into it!
We appreciate your reactions. Keep up the good work.

Hadn't seen the movie prior and was ready to skip dinner after watching expecting something similar to Hannibal based off the title. Also omg Nicholas Hoult!!! I loved him in The Great!!
Loved the reaction alot nick. Anya is breathtaking. Outstanding cast and performances. The movie was brilliant. Have a wonderful weekend.
Thank you! You too!
You are hilarious. Loved watching this. Subscribed ^^
Fine dining is insane and people can get very cult-y about it. The most obvious inspo for the movie is Danish restaurant Noma, which is considered the best in the world ($700 per person btw). A week ago Noma closed its doors and so are many other fine dining establishments.
@@lindsayejoy the closing is “temporary” as the restaurant is transforming fully into a lab. the lab will be dedicated to food innovation and the development of new flavors. pop-ups will open around the world and they’ll open for a season when they have enough new ideas.
I saw an explanation of the movie and they were water boarding the critic with soup...
The actor was chosen because on the one day the chef got to take a holiday, he went to his movie because he was a famous highly talented actor who had agreed to a terrible movie just for the money and phoned in his performance, he was hired solely to draw in people to a shitty movie and knew it. The chef had to witness another brilliant artist selling their soul on the one day he got to escape from him having to sell his own and it infuriated him. He chose the actor because he reminds him of himself and hates himself.
12:46 is the mess scene for anyone wondering
Every time I watch a reaction to this movie, I want bread.
so did everyone there
If you have the stomach for it, Ray Feinnes' performance as a Nazi commander of a death camp in 'Schindler's List' is absolutely chilling. Great actor.
I've seen that ONCE and only ONCE 👀
They said how much Chef was charging in the first scene - $1,250 a head.
7:18 the Tatiana quote got me cracked tf up 😭
When you said it was like watching one of those food shows on Netflix, you weren't so far from reality: the creators of the film hired David Gelb from "The Chef's Table" to guide the close-up food captures 😉😎
Oh that's actually a really neat trivia bit! Thanks for sharing!
I have been seeing small clips of this on TikTok and knew nothing about it, it took me the longest time to realise it was a real film I could watch 😂
I haven’t seen it, so I’m still not sure why he picked this specific group of people, or how Nicholas Hoult knew they were going to die BUT WENT ANYWAY???!?!!
Great review, I’m intrigued so definitely going to watch this
Emulsion is just something mixed together at high power usually in a blender, breaking just means two liquids didn’t combine just right. For example mixing oil with vinegar (mostly water) the vinegar will sit on top, if combined it will thicken and stay combined but the water in the vinegar will rise to the top eventually
The commentary, the memes and gifs!!! Chefs Kiss! 😅😂😂😂
🥂💛
Thanks Nick! I now have something fun to watch on this cold winter night! I gotta start sending you money… and as soon as I have some… 😳🙄. Love you tons. ✌🏻💖
May the video bring you warmth and bread.
You'll understand that when you watch it lol

One of my fav movies of 2022
Saw it twice lol 😁♥️
I really enjoyed this underrated movie because of the cast and focus on, well, the menu.
Anya Taylor Joy ATE…
... 🥁🤭
In all seriousness, this movie was an excellent advertisement for cheeseburgers (I made sure to grab one straight from the theater).
Upon future rewatches of this, I will 100% be eating a cheeseburger.
Just finished this... WOW. This movie was not what I was expecting. All I can say is... well, now we know the origin story for Nicholas Holt's character in Warm Bodies.
Also, if you're looking to explore more of Ralph Fiennes, he was in the movie version of "Red Dragon" (adapted from the Hannibal Lecter book series). 👀
That'll be on the channel this year!
I have to say this film is brilliant and your video reacting to it was hilarious I seriously have never laughed so much watching this and I just want to say thank you for making me laugh keep up the good work and heres a subscriber 👍
Loved the movie. Maybe it's my favorite of 2022, not entirely sure - but it's up there!
Anya Taylor-Joy was gorgeous in that role and she is such a good actress. I am really looking forward to seeing more movies/shows with her!
Your Reaction was great! Keep up the great content, it's a pleasure to watch!
Totally that snob lady reminds me also of ding dong lady... cant stand her - she tried so hard to make that a thing... DING DONG!!!! - nope.
Great movie - good reaction dude.
If you like RF in this movie, you will love him in Red Dragon. His Dolarhyde makes his chef look like a sweet baby puppy dog.
