De-lidding has always made me nervous. So glad its easier now with those tools instead of back in the P4 days of using a razor blade.

never ever ever, drip liquid metal directly on die. Always apply it to the qtip first then rub onto the die. LM comes out under higher pressure than thermal paste and can easily squirt places it shouldnt go

Delidded my gf's 8600k and my 8700k a while back and it helped a ton with our overclocks. cooled my 8700k by 12C at 4.8ghz

Can you do a test with 7700k and rtx 3080?

Does it make any difference in applying more vs adequate

You can only put so much liquid metal between the die and the heat spreader. You can't let it ooze out like thermal paste as it's conductive.

@@SanDiegoLAN i was just surprised little to no difference in delid for me. I applied and didn’t get 20 degrees drop as most people always mentioned

I'm curious what cooler you're using? I have 5ghz @ 1.360 on my 7700k with a Thermaltake water 3.0 and Mx4. Idle is 35 max 83 in Cinebench R20. Maybe you could go higher than 5ghz with a different cooler.

My 7700k is really close to yours just a tic lower voltage. Mines on an evga clc and it never gets above 70c. I just ordered a 5600x but am not sure i want it. i don't know if the $/FPS is worth it. I will soon have access to another 5600x and rtx 3070. I plan on doing some testing and selling/returning the 5600x if its not worth it.

@@DaleEarnhardtsSeatbelt Honestly I just got an 8700k for free and sold my previous 7700k in a quick build. I'm running an RTX 3090 and 16gb of 3600 and its maybe 10ish fps if that on the 8700k compared to the 7700k. In game, not noticeable. I can see the 7700k strugglin in newer titles at 4k, but I'd doubt its unplayable. I'd say wait, and upgrade the 3070 to a 3080 or 6800XT. 11th Gen will be coming, by then AMD will start Sales and bundles on 5600xt's, if you don't want to pay up for intel that is. I'm waiting for 11th and not even close to "needing" it. So I may wait a while lol.

@@PDXCustomPCS my plan is to buy an evga 3080 once I can get through checkout. A buddy has a 3070 on the way and I got him a 5600x as well so in gonna see how the 3070 does in both machines if there hardly a difference between mine and the 5600x im selling off the 5600x. That will be like 500+ for Mobo and cpu said and done. Especially for a few potential fps that I won't notice since it will be 1440p. I'll probably wait til intel 11th gen if that hapoens

Great video and even though in my time I’ve built hundreds of computers, now a days I’d be like you ‘yay I didn’t break it’! Lol, will he interesting to see how the new 3000 Series cards handle Flight Sim.
