    Thank you. I feel like crying watching this video. On the 3rd week since the repair surgery of the 5th metatarsal fracture now. As a runner of 20 something years, it is so hard to be in this setback. 😢

      It is awful when you can't do what you love but try and find other positive things to keep you busy. Also, resist the urge to rush your rehab - the recovery from this can feel very long but it is totally worth sticking to the slow process to avoid flare-ups and ensure a good strong comeback.

      @@SportsInjuryPhysio Thanks a million for your peptalk and precious advice. Yes, now 2 months have passed my surgery and I am in the orthopedic rehab sessions. I believe I will make a defiant comeback to my favorite thing to do (i.e., running ^^) soon.

      @@jeanlee28 How did it go?

    • @jeanlee28
      @jeanlee28 8 месяцев назад +2

      @SuperYtc1 Thank you for asking! I can't believe the surgery was almost 2 years ago. After the surgery and a couple of rehab sessions, I was given a green light by my doctor to resume running (but mildly without pushing myself too much at all).
      I have gradually increased mileage, listening to my body.
      Now, I am grateful that I am able to log 8 miles a day every day. 🙏🙏🙏

    May i know the timeframe for proliferation and remodelling phase?

    • @SportsInjuryPhysio
      @SportsInjuryPhysio  3 месяца назад +1

      It depends on the extent of the injury and what type of tissue it is. It can be anything from 3 weeks to several months.

    Great work, doc!
    I guess training unaffected muscle groups in relative rest must be done with some care. The example where you suggested triceps work when the bicep is injured would probably do more harm than good, imo. When you go through a tricep push down, the controlled negative (which is an essential part of the movement) would place a fair bit of strain on the biceps too. So I guess it would be a good idea to avoid antagonist muscle groups, in such cases, and maybe slowly build up

    Should i start walking on 2nd phase for 20 minutes every other day (increasing gradually) and do strengthening exercises for my overuse soleus on the 3rd phase?

    Great video and explanation, thank you. Would you say the soreness in the legs after a marathon is minor inflammation or not? So would there need to be a healing time in the way you explain?

    • @SportsInjuryPhysio
      @SportsInjuryPhysio  2 года назад +1

      Yes, your body takes a rather large beating in a marathon and you definitely need to take a week or two to recover. There will be low level inflammation involved and it is important NOT to take antiinflammatories (NSAIDS) because it will inhibit your body's ability to repair.

    Thank you for all your info
    Can you explain why my left pectoral minor hurts “like a bite “ after 7 months post injury.( from a severe blow to the chest moving a mattress) All range of motion is present without pain or weakness during my now moderate arm only exercises but later in the day I feel the slight burn/bite sensation. I do remember over straining the injury 2 months into the healing and backed off completely for a few months.
    Thank you

      The pain you describe can be coming from the muscles but it may also be referred pain from your ribs or a little nerve that is irritated. I can’t really be more specific - it would be best if you see someone who can assess it for you.

      The best way to go about it is to consult a physiotherapist who can work out a progressive rehab programme for you.

      Hello, did you recover?

  • @pf4186

    I have a groin injury that won't go away. It's very hard to come to terms with the fact that I might not run again. Nothing helps; I've tried rest, stretching, strengthening, and combinations of the three. It hasn't improved even slightly in 7 months.

    • @SportsInjuryPhysio
      @SportsInjuryPhysio  Год назад +1

      It doesn't have to be for always. Sometimes we can actually cause more irritation by trying too much rehab and all that is needed is a prolonged break from sport and rehab exercises, and then a slow build it up. It can really help if you can find a different activity that you can do in the meantime to help you stay fit - it won't be same as running but will help you feel better than just resting e.g. cycling or swimming using only arms
      If you wanted help figuring this out, this is something that our team of physios can assess and help you with via video call and my colleagues Kevin, Barry and Dominic are very experienced in helping athletes recover from groin injuries.. Hi there
    Training for a marathon I woke up with an i jury after a 25k run. The pain was unbearable for almost 2 month and my right leg barely could walk. Needless to say stopped me from running the marathon as the injury didnt feel any better till after 3/ and a half. Now it's been 5 months and I am starting to run again but I feel my right leg is not the same anymore, feels slightly sore but I can run it just feel something is not like it used to be before injury. Is it possible a tendon or muscle has grown thicker? What would you recomend to keep running but make that strange uncomfortable feeling go away completely?

    • @SportsInjuryPhysio
      @SportsInjuryPhysio  3 года назад +2

      It would be better if you consulted a physio who can assess you and diagnose it and give you the correct advice. What you should do will depend on what it is that is actually injured and you can’t tell what’s injured without getting you to perform specific movement tests + taking a detailed symptom history. Just trying to run through this type of thing usually doesn’t work that well. This is something that our team of physios can help you with via video call. You can read more about how this works here: www.sports-injury-physio.com/
