- My final couple days in Dangriga the cultural capital of Belize.
The Garifuna people are a people of mixed free African and indigenous American ancestry that originated in the Caribbean island of Saint Vincent and speak Garifuna, an Arawakan language, and Vincentian Creole. The Garifuna are the descendants of indigenous Arawak, Kalinago, and Afro-Caribbean people.

🇧🇿🇧🇿 Belize has a special part in my heart. The people are free and welcome everybody. They have a deep sense of community. They own both their language and culture.
I come from Kenya and what I see in Belize is also what I see from where I come from. For sure this is a motivation to go out to visit Belize some day!!!
Much love from Kenya!!🇰🇪🇰🇪
Belize central america I'm from and i agree totally !! Respect always my friend from mother Africa!!✌🏽🙏🌎🌍🇧🇿
I'm born in Kenya too, living in Austria since my teenage years with family, I love watching how Africans all over the world live. Having spend almost all my years here, I miss This kind of life a lot!!! How people stay together no matter what ! Austria is one very different tiny country! My child's born here, to us Kenyan parents ! Crazy!!!
I am a BELIZEAN girl straight out of North front street. LOVE ❤️ my country and to dead do I part . Thanks for showing another part of the world 🌎 that is definitely DIFFERENT . ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The lady in the pink garifuna attire is my great aunt Maggie! Thank you for this. 🖤means a lot !
Great and important video Chris. Thank you
Thank you sir, I really enjoy your content!
Beautiful people indeed..God bless Belize 🇧🇿.
You know what is really powerful, is that the community in Belize is so strong that everyone almost knows you already there. After a just a couple of video's you already started to get recognised a lot which is pretty magnificent if you ask me. I love how their community is so close and bound shows the power of our human nature!
We are naturally friendly people Belize Have a small population with only 6 districts not sure how much villages over 200 island for sure information spread fast
Pll

Belize central america I'm from and sendingrespect
Much love Chris Appreciate you putting my culture in the Forefront
Very cool experience! Those guys are smart for seeing their culture fade. They should teach their native language in school! Food looked good and appealing. I'm interested in the real estate and farm lands there.
Cajun/ Creole culture in Louisiana is fading fast,The language was forced out of my father's generation. I'am 9th generation and the first that spoke only English. Garifuna are wise indeed
Honestly Charlie is an elder that would be my friend for real. Trust me when I say older people have the best knowledge and they will tell you the truth and you can tell them anything or ask questions without judgment. They've been there and done that.
I lived in Dangrega for about seven months ..with my Grand father Ernest Bradshaw who had a business there .
It's a lovely place and I even played key boards for a band that was close to where we lived.
Very informative Chris. The Garifuna culture is a mixture of African and the indigenous Amerindians (Caribs and Arawaks) from the Caribbean Islands. The Amerindians originated from South America still found today in Brazil, Venezula, Guyana,Suriname and French Guiana they travelled down to the Islands by of canoes. Remnants of these peoples are still found in some islands while totally extinct in others.

Hi Chris, please also show us the luxurious lifestyle in Belize. This will highlight the huge separation of wealth between the rich and the poor. Thanks
My time in Belize is up!

Does it matter if Charlie was wrong with something he said? To me no, because that short and brief history. Go the most part, the guy (Charlie) did a good job to represent his country, unlike those who likes to point out to the world his mistake. Bless up Charlie!
I agree. It makes no impact if Charlie was slightly off with one of his facts. The man is incredible and deserves to be heard.

That's the lady that was singing the night the band was playing .
The indomitable Charlie. In my book he would do well teaching in a classroom. Despite living here all my life I have found this video to be very educational. Well done Charlie!!
I concur...Charlie please at least volunteer and share your great knowledge as a teacher at all educational levels. This wonderful Lady Sage Priest Queen too needs to share the wealth of her songs and the cultural significance of those songs and the power of those words that share a 500 year connection with West Africa... really special...Hats off to you, #ChrisMustList. These last few episodes have been true Bangers! Ase, Celtic King!!! Bravo to the Belizean People, especially the Garifuna!
I am planning a trip to Belize for 2024, to celebrate Garifuna Settlement Day 2024! Looking forward to meeting my ancestral brothers and sisters!

Wow, her song is touching my soul, it's very native to her culture.

You asked about the Garifuna. It is a mixture of African and Indigenous languages with other influences. It was created in St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the Caribbean.
The language is lost there but you can still learn a lot. For instance, there is a monument to Joseph Chatoyer - The Garifuna chief who is our national hero and there is Heroes Day that pays tribute to this heritage. Big up to all Garifuna worldwide. 🇧🇿🇧🇿🇧🇿🇻🇨🇻🇨🇻🇨.
Garifuna and my ancestors have something in common from around the same time in history, My Acadian great grandparents were Exiled from Nova Scotia in 1755 by the British. Both of them were half Mi'Kmaq Indian and ended up living in San Domingue for a few years until 1779 and then migrated to Louisiana. I'am Cajun/Louisiana Creole I have 7 nationalities in my DNA. Mr Charlie is great you have a new uncle!
Charlie is an incredible man and I am glad i found him!
Man of real world experience...welcome to West Africa The Gambia.
Charlie’s the man! Thanks Chris for showing our beautiful town and culture. Seremein🙏🏾

Love the Garafuna Culture and Charlie!
My home town and neighborhood ❤❤

Oh wow culture is similar to Haitian culture. I speak a different type of creole dialect. Another great Belize video and almost at 100k neat!!

Thank u from California!
Thanks for the video...I really like Charlie
Crying right… hearing old R&B in the background
Yes the music was great!
Love your videos Chris making me miss home haven’t been home in 31 years.
The older man in the white shirt articulated himself well about the garifuna people and culture. But Charlie got it wrong about Joseph Chatoyer,he died in St.Vincent and the Grenadines- Dorsetshire Hill (HAIROUNA-,name by the Kalina-go) in 1738 in battle with the the british. He is the only national hero in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
I love what you doing
For us garifuna people

Belize is a beautiful country.
I have to visit some day for sure.
I only really knew about Belize through former rapper, Shyne.
Garfiuna's derive from the Arawak people, of which i have ancestry.
I'm Afro-Guyanese, in Guyana the Arawak indigenous people inhabited primarily.

NO SOUND
Turn the volume up on your device, the sound works fine.
surnames names from the Spanish. Were they slaves to the Spaniards?
I'm sorry I don't have an answer. Anyone else is welcome to reply.
The Garifuna people were never slaves.
Garifuna people were never slaves, but to answer your questions garifuna people adopted spanish surnames upon arrival to Honduras on April 12th 1797. From honduras we migrated to other neighboring countries like Belize, Guatemala and Nicaragua. The biggest garifuna population is in honduras, and most of the villages there still speak the language fluently.
Actually, the largest Garifuna Community is in Belize.....The Garifuna People of Honduras are more comfortable speaking in spanish NOT Garifuna!@@KingRisiti
@@user-zq1zg7dg8i incorrect. There are 52 Garifuna communities in honduras. The garifuna population from honduras is well over 300,000, thats not including the ones who live in the U.S. by the way in most of those villages in honduras majority speak garifuna, with exceptions of a few who learn more towards spanish. Now, In belize there is only six garifuna communities and only in hopkins do you hear people speaking garifuna. I dont speak out of my ass like you do. I speak actual facts from actual personal experiences & ground research in both countries.
Why u eating hudut with fork😭😂
Simple answer? it was available.
That lady asked you to buy her some nachos you told her you didn’t have any money?
Yes at that point I was looking for a bank and had tried three different banks. The one bank in town that took international bank cards was out of cash and out of service. About 4 hours later the problem was fixed and money was back in the machine. Finding a ATM that works is not always easy when travelling the globe. I had given away all my pocket money that morning. If I had the $1-2 in my pocket I would have bought her the nachos without question.
@@ChrisMustList oh ok i just wanted to make sure because i was surprised i see you do a lot of good things and you are a humble person i was like did he tell her no ? 😂 ok keep up the good work and god bless
@@mouinezorkot7261 I start everyday with $1000 Belizean ($500USD) in my pocket and finish with zero... it's all given away. But this is the one morning no banks were working and I felt crazy uncomfortable without cash in my pocket. That being said, you can have my personal guarantee and you can contact anyone in my videos. I give away much more money and gifts then are ever shown on my channel.
Chris must list is a good person so please forgive him!!✌🏽🙏🌎🇧🇿
In this country nobody works or what ? anyway it's the same thing in Haiti or Jamaica, Trinidad .....
Wow, smh.....
🔸How many working-age people did you see in this video that were milling about during the day, "doing nothing"?
🔸Is there a shortage of "workers", potential employees? (Look it up, research.)
🔸What is the unemployment rate there? (Look it up, research.)
🔸Is it best to "live to work" or "work to live"?
This is an asinine statement to make ...smdh
Wow!!! The people that were being interviewed look like they were all retired.....
Omg Dangria is where my father is buried at he's originally from Stan Creek🇧🇿🇧🇿🇧🇿🇧🇿
Stann Creek is the English name for Dangriga, so same place.
