I have seen the dark haired actress starring in this episode before in movies or somewhere else on tv as i was growing up.. She is absolutely beautiful.
THIS is one of the top 10 #DickVanDykeShow episodes. The dialogue and the acting! And you know what, the laugh track works perfectly in this "old" show.
The great Ina Balin. She did "Charro!" with Elvis Presley and "The Comancheros", starring John Wayne. In the Seventies, Ina abandoned acting to save orphan children. In 1975 she rescued hundreds of kids from South Vietnam. A great actress and humanitarian who left us all too soon.
Good episode and shows men can get unwanted attention too, even from someone desirable. Laura had good reason to be concerned that is not the same as being jealous. Her marriage was being threatened.
Ina Balin was really gorgeous. The first thing I remember seeing her in was The Comancheros with John Wayne. I think she had a similar look to Lois Nettleton. As a kid in the 80's watching old TV show reruns, I had a crush on both of them.
It's funny what men see as gorgeous. As a woman myself I think she was just basic looking. It's usually the case with what I see in comments sections. Puzzling.
Dick Van Dyke is well known as being ambidextrous. I write with my left hand but use scissors with my right and play baseball and hockey with my right and knit right handed. We older lefties were often instructed by right handed people so we adapted and learned certain skills right handed but choose our left hand for other tasks.
@l.5832 I guess that makes sense, because l live in the Far East where, at one time, left-handedness was considered taboo or a deformity requiring correction. Older people frowned on the dominant use of the left hand. One Massachusetts colleague, who grew up Catholic, told me that the nuns tried to dissuade him from being a southpaw. I guess that's why Tom Cruise, also Catholic, writes right-handed, but throws left-handed.
@@MrCJ-qz9dl In grade one, when my teacher saw that I wrote with my left hand, gave me detention, withheld my lunch, and ridiculed me in front of the class. My grade 2 teacher did not care which hand I wrote with and I got straight "A"s. Kids are resilient but because of that first teacher I still have difficulty understanding the concepts of LEFT and RIGHT as well as CLOCKWISE and COUNTERCLOCKWISE because it makes no difference to me......
I get it!! I only watched a handful of episodes and love them but a few of them had Laura so jealous!! It’s definitely not a good look for her! Maybe writers back then thought that all women were jealous of their men?!
Laura does take jealousy too far. She wasn't so bad this time, but other times I thought she could drive him away when she'd jump all over him when some woman acted too interested in him. The guy shows her how passionately he loves and wants her in every way. Yet Laura's still so insecure about her desirability and she absolutely has no reason to be! Often thought she should see a psychiatrist. 🤷♀️
@@nancyhowell4505 lol!! I know, right!! But I guess it wasn’t REALLY her, it was the writers of the show that made her that way! Maybe that’s how men at that time thought women acted??
Women had more at stake in a marriage than they do now. Laura was not a wage earner and her prospects were low in the mid 1960s. She was also saddled with a kid. Most employers would not hire her. If there was a divorce, her likelihood of success for finding another mate would be limited because divorce was frowned on regardless of whose fault it was, and she would be saddled with a kid.
It's still a great show, even though Laura is a pain and doesn't like Rob at all. She is attractive, but she's too whiny, controlling, has problems with his every movement, and acts like she's perfect. Rob isn't perfect either, but Laura doesn't realize how good she has it. It's annoying to see him take everything she dishes out. He deserved better.
😁 that's why I've always loved Dick Van Dyke, he's "basically a Good boy" 👍🏼👍🏼
key word = BOY.
It wasn't Dick Van Dyke being "a Good boy"; it was 'Rob Petrie.'
@@MrMenefrego1 yeah, van dyke would have plowed her silly...SILLY!

@23:45...That look that "Laura" gave the art instructor cracked me up.

Isn't she beautiful? She went on to do charity work rescuing hundreds of Vietnamese orphans.
One of greatest, sexiest episodes ever seen! Impossible without first rate talent in every area: writers, director, and incomparable actors. A smash!

I ❤ Dick Van Dyke is still alive loved it.
The art teacher was in a movie w/ Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward called “From The Terrace”. Wonderful movie. Only times I’ve seen her in anything

She also was in a 1967 episode of "Get Smart," among many other TV appearances.
@@leestamm3187 Yes, I remember. She played "Ann Ferris", who may or may not be the ghost of her dead mother.

23:44 Laura's expression is hilarious. You just know she was ready to smash every bottle of paint on that lady's face.
"You can't blame a girl for trying."
Rob:
That look killed me too!

I have a theory that it is difficult for a woman to TRULY see herself, as a man sees her.
She cannot think like a heterosexual man.

The movie Ina Balin was in with paul newman was "On the Terrace" .One of Paul Newman's best .
classy clean fun tv oh boy
Actually, it's an excellent caricature!
Yes it is. And hilarious!
Interesting fact Dick Van Dyke writes and signs autographs with his right hand but draws and paints with his left hand !
That is interesting, because Jerry calls him " Lefty," but in the ROSEBUD episode he was writing right handed.
@@fredkruse9444l noticed that as well.

What a sweet and wonderful husband Rob is, Laura is bit too jellous though.
Jealous
Rob, I don't think that Laura likes the painting of her, you made her look like a funny picture from the county fair with a BIG mouth
Regardless they were what a 60's couple was suppose to look like n act like too...
@@richardelarmo8379 My wife and I were a couple in the 60s; just what were we supposed to "look like n act like"?
Yeah. I have always felt the show made every failed attempt to make MTM look less beautiful when there was another female guest star on the show.
Let's be honest here...her mouth is big.
Jackie Joseph again in this one.

I despise adultery, adulterers, and those who enable adultery... But even I don't think I'd be strong enough to resist peak-60s Ina Balin. Oof.
