Yeah, this song specifically is a song that the spirit of that one girl in the scene gave to the other girl in the scene to sing as an ode to the man she loved that was shot along with her through the clothes that they were both wearing😅 it’s super Duper sad and very underrated💔

Well, this is a pleasant surprise, I thought no one loved FFX-2 (this is not FFX) enough to suggest "1000 Words". Yes, it's a cutscene + insert song. For context, the singing character with short hair is Yuna, Yuna was the co-protagonist in FFX, where she lost a certain blond much-more-than-friend. In FFX-2 (direct sequel of FFX) she dons the songstress dressphere (in the game dresspheres are part dressup part character class, as black mage, white mage and so on) inhabited by the conscience of an ancient songstress, Lenne (long hair singer), who loved a similar (but not the same) blond young man, so Yuna resonated with the feelings embedded in Lenne's dressphere when she chose to make a concert to stop the infighting between the three factions. The scene that is shown is the tragic past of the couple Lenne and Shuyin (the other blondie) when they tried to stop a superweapon during an ancient war. So yes, it happened but thousands of years before Yuna's timeline.

This is a cutscene of Final Fantasy X-2. The game was released in 2003 and the main character name is Yuna. She's the one singing in the top of the airship. The english version vocals belong to Jade Villaon, from the german pop group Sweetbox, while the japanese version vocals belong to the singer Koda Kumi.

Yes, it's actually a cut scene. The short-haired girl wanted to give a concert and she's standing on their airship. She channels the spirit of the long-haired girl, another singer, and then a vision appears from when the spirit's life ended, 1,000 years earlier. The man she's with, her beloved, and the circumstances around her death are integral to the story, but not the particular scene that you're watching. This is what the Final Fantasy games are known for, fantastic visuals in the cut scenes, and epic stories. There's nearly always a bit of mystery and an antagonist that threatens the entire world , too. It's possible to find videos that just show the cut scenes, if you're interested. The cut scenes alone don't always tell the entire story, though. One other thing about this cut scene. The singer, her friends, and the audience are all at a place called the Thunder Plains. It is always overcast, with a perpetual storm. It has never been known to have clear skies, so that's why everyone was so shocked when the clouds parted at the end of the song.

So, one of the HUGE things with the location this song is performed in-game is that it's known as the Thunder Plains because it's been a nonstop thunderstorm for hundreds, if not a thousand, years.
And then, during this song, the sky clears. The eternal storm ends. For a short while, anyways. I got chills when I first saw it happen.

FFX-2 is a follow up to FFX.
The main character of FFX-2 is Yuna, who was the female main character of FFX; The character who is singing is Yuna.
Yuna was a summoner in FFX, and prior to the events of FFX, being the "High Summoner" meant you would surely die when you summoned the "Final Aeon"(final Aeon would defeat the big bad and kill you as well)
The Long-haired Girl singing is named Lenne, who was a summoner from the distant past as well as a well known "Songstress", the reason you see her during the song is Yuna is using Lenne's Memories as a "Dressphere" to become the "Songstress" class.
Both Lenne and Yuna had a boyfriend who also looked very similar to each other. For Lenne it was Shuyin, for Yuna it was Tidus. The scenes involving Lenne here are Shuyin trying to save her and them dying, sadly.
Essentially the reason you're seeing both Yuna AND Lenne is Yuna is singing one of Lenne's songs and the "Dressphere" was resonating with the technology used to put on the show, causing everyone present to see a bit of the past. For context, this concert was put on to put an end to a minor war between factions, to show them their petty squabbles mean nothing compared to the overall conflict.
FFX is often ripped on for several reasons, but honestly it was a great story and X-2 may be FFX:The Sailor Moon episode, but it's great too, I'm not going to bother trying to defend it from those determined for it to suck, but it was fun, I enjoyed it, and I don't care what people say to the contrary.
If you want a happier sounding song by the same singer... check out "What Can I Do for You?" from FFX-2, it's the opening song and the one featured in the commercials back when it was current. There are both Japanese and English versions of the song so be ware of that, to go with this video I'd go with the English version.

Yes, this is a cut scene from the game.

These aren't animated music video, but are cutscenes. Don't worry, I'm the same way, and cried too. The long haired girl is Lenne, and the soul of the original Songstress dress sphere. The cutscene depicts her true feelings of the horrors of war, and showed her past memories, so yeah, they're not "okay."
The Japanese singer for this is Koda Kumi. Jade from SweetBox did the English version for the song. Both also sang the other song I like called REAL EMOTION. Maybe you can react to that too. And I promise, no sad crying for this one. XD It's one of my favorite bops back then, and still is now. XD

Luke, by the way the japanese version and english version have different lyrics. Its not a direct translation. Also this cutscene is from the remastered version of FFX/X-2 that came out in 2013. The originals came out in early 2000s and resolution was rougher then. Also they synced the lips/mouth animation to both the japanese and english lyrics respectively.

X-2 is a lot to explain. It's mostly a lighthearted game that then kicks you in the shins at random moments
The easiest way to explain this cutscene is that Spira (the world this game is set in) is going through a civil war and the main character, Yuna (who literally helped save the world 2 years prior) decided that a concert might help heal the wounds of the world. Power of music and such.
Now for the off the rails part of this game. In game you change classes by changing your outfit. Each of these outfits are infused with the memories of people. In the case of the Songstress class the memories are tied to a woman who died 1000 years prior in a similar war.
Durning Yuna's unifying concert the projection technology interacted with the Songstress outfit's memories and projected the memories for everyone one to see: her and her lover's death 1000 years ago.
That is what this cutscene shows.
They're a lot more to it and it does require the context of the first game (FFX) but that's the easiest cliff notes I could come up with.

The main character was wearing the songstress one which belonged to the long haired girl 1000 years ago. Her spirit kinda came through when Yuna was singing and she saw and felt the dead girls memories. Thats why she collapses after the song. this was a concert held by High Summoner Yuna to bring the battling factions of Spira together. The long haired women is Lenne a Summoner that died a thousand years ago. the location is known as the Thunder Plains and was constantly bombarded with lightning for as long as there was recorded history in Spira. The magic that linked the two summoners over a thousand years was powerful enough to break the endless storm.

Yuna managed to access Lenne memory because the guy on the video looks like the guy Yuna likes on the first game... Also the surprise look at the end was because the location in the game always have lightning storm and never dissipate and thats the first time the lightning storm stopped.... So this is a cut scene is from midway through the sequel game X-2. To put it as simply as I can Yuna (the first person singing) is essentially telling/showing Lenne's story (2nd lady) that happened over 1000 years ago. She can do this because her 'dress' originally belonged to Lenne and X and X-2 have LOTS of themes around death and in Spira (the world of the game) the dead Frequently stick around in various ways. Hell Yuna is Telling Lenne's story cause her boyfriend Shuyin has stuck around all this time and he is Super full of rage and wants to revive and use that big ass machine to kill everyone/thing. And that is Still super tame in comparison to the shit that happens in the main game X. 😅
And P.S. that big thing Yuna is standing on to sing is an Airship. Which is exactly what it sounds like, a ship that sails through air instead of water. It's a staple across FF games to have Some kind of 'airship' in there somewhere 😁

I'm sure others have explained but since you said you had no idea on FF in general but FF 10 continued in FF 10-2. The woman singing is in both games and she's here to try to get the various world races to join in peace. Yunie's costumes in X-2 were made by her uncle, who pilots the airship she's standing on so they all can see her, and are based on memories they find across the world in the course of doing quests. In this particular outfit you can see the memory is of a singer in the past that has a boyfriend that looks exactly like Yunie's love from base X. So the girl with the long hair is the echo and the short hair is Yunie. Besides that, not going into things any deeper.

Thefinal fantasy series is known for it's great OSTs. This song is one of the most impactful in the whole series. It has a lot of meaning in the game, it has even more meaning for Yuna, the main character in that game (FFX-2) and it has a huge impact on the whole game. It is a song coming from a broken spirit to help people understand the futility of the war they are engaging in.
If you want another good song, one that's just a smige longer, I would recommend Dancing Mad from FFVI.

singing is common-ish in final fantasy games. in x-2 specifically they have a class of support based fighters called songstresses that fight and strengthen their friends by singing. that's what the singer is in this scene. there's a few variations on this in other ff games, usually dancer and/or bard.
if you wanted to react to more ffx specific music, you could check out Real Emotion (X-2, it's the opening credits of the game) and Otherworld (X opening credits, and Jeckt's theme)
for ff songs in general to react to, i highly recommend anything from ffxiv. the music from that game is fantastic. Scream for something metal, dedicated to moonlight for pop, a long fall for techno, dragonsong if you want to make your viewers cry... lot's of amazing options.

This is an in game scene from FFx-2, the machine you saw the character standing on was their transport an airship styled after motorcycles. The switch in characters is a bit hard to explain, but you use dress spheres in the game to switch between different combat classes and the one she's in is called the songstress (fellow nerds correct me if I'm wrong) and it has a connection with someone from a long time ago and when Yuna did that performance, she resonated with the spirit of the orb and it manifested through her. This scene was amazing and it honestly had me crying when I first heard it because there's a lot from the first and second game that feeds into how that scene impacts the player.

This is an actual cutscene in the game, 1 i actually keep a save file at. To put it simply and without too many spoilers, the more mature lady is a "ghost" made of emotions contained within an item thats use for the main Character's (Younger singer) outfit and the song and images are rooted in the "ghost"s emotions and memories (the shooting was when she and her lover died over 1000 years ago).
Im leaving out a huge amount of context, but, as you just experienced, you dont really need the full context of the story to feel the emotions.

Spoilers/full background context of this scene: (ALL OF THEM)
    .
    .
    .
Yuna the short haired singer in this event is the main character in 10-2 and the main heroine in 10-1. In 10-1 she chooses to follow her father's footsteps and become a summoner, a sacrificial martyr who gains the ability to channel basically the spirits of the ancients in the form of massive battle beasts. 10-1 is basically her pilgrimage to master the art of summoning to perform the "Final summoning", an art that uses the soul/trust of your most beloved friend/lover in combination with the summoner's own life to bring forth the Final Aeon, a power strong enough to destroy a beast simply named "Sin" (I'll put the extra Sin description at the end because thats a whole other mess). 10 years prior to 10-1 Yuna's father became high summoner, meaning he and his party defeated Sin. However when Sin is defeated, the soul (The Final Aeon in form of the summoners closest friend) is possessed by Sin and rebirthed several years later. But that period in which Sin doesn't exist and theres a brief time of peace is called "The Calm". Yuna and her party eventually find a way to end this rebirth process bringing for the (Eternal Calm) but ends in the sacrifice of the main character in 10-1 causing him to fade from existence.
10-2 begins when yuna finds a sphere (basically our equivalent of recorded videos/dvds) that appears to show the 10-1 protagonist. She becomes a sphere hunter to try to see if any more of these recordings of him exist to see if he's actually gone or alive somewhere. Eventually the events of 10-2 lead to a conflict that spurs on what would be the first major war since 1000 years ago (some details below). Yuna, being the high summoner who brought about eternal peace, tries to think of a way to re-unify the people. So she puts together this concert. As you've heard she channels the spirit of Lenne, a popular songstress who lived in war time Zanarkand 1000 years ago with her lover Shuyin (who surprisingly looks identical to the 10-1 protagonist) Shuyin wanted to put an end to the war, so he infiltrated the headquarters the enemy nation, technological superpower Bevelle, in search of a super weapon to turn the tides. As he is trying to take over something called Vegnagun, basically the equivalent of a living, coherent nuclear weapon, He is confronted by Lenne, who was also a summoner fighting on the front lines. She had caught wind of his plot to activate vegnagun and hunted him down to talk him out of using Vegnagun due to the mass destruction it would bring. The two of them are discovered at this time and gunned down by Bevelle guards, but not before Vegnagun is activated. (This is everything you're seeing once Yuna transforms into Lenne)
Sin: Throughout history there has only ever really been one war, and that was 1000 years ago between the Ancient Summoner's of Zanarkand, and the technological superpower Yevon from Bevelle. As Zanarkand begins to fall, the leader of the summoners, Yu Yevon, comes up with a plan to salvage his nation. He and a group of his summoners become a massive Fayth (basically inserting their souls into stones to allow their power to be brought out in the form of summoning and they create two things; Dream Zanarkand, basically a recreation of their nation in basically dream format, including the people the fayth could remember. They placed the Dream far out in unexplored ocean waters in hopes that those dream recreated people/nation would never be disturbed again (The protagonist of 10-1 is one of these dreams). The 2nd thing they created was Sin, made of Yu Yevons soul, a mobile super summoning who's duty was to forever protect the waters around Dream Zanarkand, and to hunt down technology capable of ever leading other civilizations to finding Dream Zanarkand... Eventually over 1000 years that duty (due to Yu Yevon's extreme hatred for Bevelle corrupting it) the "destroy technology and protect Zanarkand" became simply "Destroy" thus making Sin a world ending terror.

So, most Final Fantasy games have a song featuring heavily in the plot. Final Fantasy VIII had Eyes on Me, Final Fantasy IX had Melodies of Life, Final Fantasy X had Suteki Da Ne, X-2 had this, and so on and so on. The songs always interweave in some way, shape or form with the plot. X-2 takes it a little further by having the main character actually sing the song. And yes, this is a cutscene from the game. The singer of this version is Jade Valerie Villalon, who used to be the voice of the group Sweetbox.

My first Final Fantasy was X and it was amazing, still one of my favorite RPGs, besides Star Ocean 3 (though this song is from X-2).
And yes this is a cutscene - FF is a lot about fidelity. The graphics of this at it's time were insane.
XVI is the most recent main-entry and the cutscenes (some are integrated into gameplay) are absolutely insane. Had a great story and good combat too.
Though after letting it sit for a while I wasn't quite satisfied with the combat tbh, wish it was a bit more complex.
X might still be my favorite especially the story and characters.
XIV (I played that for 7 years ..) and XI are MMOs. The hard XIV raids are insanely fun. After 7 years it did start to get a bit old, but that's quite the achievement nontheless.
    XII was also pretty good.
XIII (has 3 games) wasn't for me - part 1 was ok, hated part 2 so never played part 3.
XV .. sadly made me stop buying any CE's. They had dev troubles and eventually released the most incomplete AAA title ever. Marketing for this game honestly felt like a scam after playing it.
Most recent main title XVI, maybe my second favorite. but VII remakes might be up there too I can't quite place them (didn't finish Rebirth yet).
Didn't finish / barely played any of the older ones.

FFX-2's main gimmick is the 'dressphere'. Lore-wise they basically carry remnants of the spirits of past heroes and you can equip different ones to switch player classes. The only one this really matters in the game, story-wise, is the Songstress, which channels the second singer's spirit

The lady in the blue dress with the short hair is wearing "equipment" which stores the skills and attire of other people, at times this affects the wearers actions
As she is singing, the memories stored in this equipment projects out (there's some other shiz going on with that, can't recall exactly how it comes out)
Part of the reason for this is that the original person (long hair) and the other (short hair) are also connected by the person they love (not going to say more details for that for spoils)
Personally Final Fantasy X-2 was my first FF game, however, I would suggest playing FF X first between them, there's just a lot of character and world growth/context which give the second game a lot more impact

yes that is a cutscene, FFX-2 is a weird game. It comes off the story of FFX as it is the first direct sequel in the series. The mainline FF games don't really have a continuous plot, they mostly happen in separate worlds, I say mostly as there is a theory that a few are connected but years apart possible same universe but not world. Then you have 14 where all of them are linked somehow cus MMO and they love to toss references.
Anyway a little bit about this cutscene, in X-2 they have things called dress spheres, they let you change jobs and such for battle, one of the jobs is songstress, and they all have memories tied to them. The memories of the person that sphere originated from are the people getting shot, long time ago, kind of a Romeo and Juliet thing if I remember. She and her boyfriend oddly favor Yuna and Tidus, her love interest from X who has vanished, so the parallels is what is shown here. It is a very strong song though.
Not the most common thing to have like midgame, but FF8 for instance has an ending theme that has vocals (and it is from a character in the story), then of course FF14 has a ton of vocals, and the music is amazing.
FF games in general tend to have great cutscenes and music though, FF16 is amazing if you have access to a PS5, it is also coming to PC likely this year at some point, but no official dates. Absolute masterpiece though, if you don't care about spoilers, check out some of the fights in there. The Bahamut fight is amazing.
