    The Score was one of the albums that really made me understand how far reaching Hip-Hop could be. So many solid tracks that feel so effortless. Wyclef, Lauryn and Pras have done solid solo stuff, but it's always going to be impossible to think of what could have been had they done a follow up to the Score.

    Zealots is definitely my favourite track but cowboys is without a doubt pure 🔥🔥🔥🔥. This album is so many things. Lyrical, introspective, funny, soulful and all without compromising its sound. I think "mask" is probably the most underrated track just because of how crazy the production and symbolism is but that's just me. Also it's funny how life works. I've been listening to 7 day theory all week (along with Mama's gun by Erykah Badu and ride the lightning by metallica). Also love the deep dive on this track.

    The album is definitely on the list of GOATS, but I feel like Slick Rick was one of the earliest singing/rappers and a GOAT. 'Sitting in my car' 'young world' 'Lodi Dadi' TCM is due to do piece on just how deep his influence is. He is referenced more than James Brown. Black thought idolizes his skills FFS.

      Clef and I actually got into a convo about the origins of singing, etc. There was definitely a lot of harmonizing. Dating all the way back to "This is the way we harmonize." Slick Rick definitely falls into that bucket.

      What We Dig Your not wrong.Most rappers in the early days sung badly ironicly like Biz Markie but Slick Rick did put a bit of singing in there.But I also remember Fearless 4,CD III,Kurtis Blow,Mantronix, Doug E Fresh amongst many others rappers burst in singing on the tracks

    • @91Definite
      @91Definite 5 лет назад

      "Sittin In My Car" was dope! Kinda sad hip hop song too! Because it dealt with Rick dealing with his girlfriend and her homegirl too. Realizing that both of them are free spirits to any guy they meet giving out their contacts and meeting up with them. And I believe Rick just wanted to find real love he just looked in the wrong places of her homegirl that ain't really like him. His mistake wasn't intentionally though...

    Great video! Never knew there was a video. Speaking of posse cuts that are underrated I'd have to say this is so far under the radar:
    Rumble In The Jungle by Fugees, A Tribe Called Quest, Busta Rhymes & Jon Forte
    The Points by The Notorious Big, Big Mike, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Buckshot, Busta Rhymes, Coolio, Doodlebug of Digable Planets, Helter Skelter, Ill All Scratch, Jamal, Menace Clan & Redman
    And of course Wu Tang posse cuts like Heaterz and Winter Warz. Dr. Dre's Stranded on Death Row, 2Pac's I Got My Mind Made Up (originally for Dogg Pound) and so many more

  • @Urbanvideoplus
    @Urbanvideoplus 6 лет назад +7

    Another great underrated posse cut is "Back To The Grill Again" by MC Serch (coming off the break up of Third Bass) featuring Red Hot Lover Tone of The Trackmasters, Nas (two years before Illmatic came out) and a verse from one of the most forgotten great MC's of the late 80's/early 90's Chubb Rock.
    Every MC had a memorable verse whether it was MC Serch telling you "if you wanna kill the Klan, shoot the fans at a tractor pull" or Chubb Rock yelling "cause YOU are a BLABBERMOUTH!!!". And Nas's verse on this track might've even been better than his verse on Main Source's "Live At The Barbeque". This was 1992. Possibly the last year that MC's could have fun with their lyrics before the gangster rap era REALLY took over with the release of Dr. Dre's first solo album 'The Chronic'. Just like Justin says... If you haven't heard this track.. Punch yourself in the face! 😂😂😂

    Justin, I would love a series on various artists Stans. Why they might be so loyal. I think it's a mix between the music and the person. It's what they do, how they live, image portrayed, family, friends, struggles, reason for making music, loyalty or lack of to people and people to them. I think people often hate Eminem, Jay, Kanye, Wayne people but it might be fun to learn why they love their favorite artists so much.

    I actually bought The Score on CD a few months ago (who still buys CDs ???) as a 90s album I've never heard but wanted to listen to. I still have not played the album but this video has definitely made me want to listen to it.
    BTW, you mentioned All Eyez on Me early in the video and it just made me think of a posse-cut from that album. "Got My Mind Made Up" featuring Tha Dogg Pound, Method Man and Redman. I don't know if that song is any more underrated than "Cowboys" but I do think it is underappreciated.

    Loved this Justin.I loved the Score and Cowboys.And the Outsidaz .I never understood why Pac went at the Fugees until now.I just thought because they were massive and from N.Y. Best posses cut..? The Symphony?Flava in Your Ear remix? L.Ls I Shot Ya,Banned from T.V?I don't have the answers☺There is one which never get mentioned Puffin on Blunts and Drankin ...a long version which I only has on a B side of the Dre Day12" It's dead hard to find and it has Kurrupt, Lady of Rage etc tear it up for about 11 mins it's load better than the LP version.Dig it out Justin if you haven't heard it it's dope.(Pac is not on this version)

    This song was tied for first off of the score & it was between thr Lauryn/Rah Duggan verse & John Forte verse that made me the happiest. Side note: the intro off of John Forte's "PoliSci" is one of my favorite intros to an album.
    A great possee cut that gets me as excited is The Fab 5's Leflaur Leflah Eshkoshka.

    There's a lot to digest here, but first let's get to the singers/rappers, and go back to 1992 I believe and there's this group called the Pharcyde, and on their debut album is a song called "Otha Fish" Slim Kid Tre is totally singing on this track, and doing so very well, I might add, check out his verse on Running Away. Moving on to song that I'm grateful for, (posse cuts) the DOC's Grand Finale, both ATCQ's Scenarios, Marely Mal's The Symphony; Live @ the Barbeque; Heavy D's Don't Curse, The Basement, Pete Rock, and C.L. Smooth; The Flava Unit's, The Malita 1&2, GangStar; and any of verison of the Root's Proceed remixes. And I can't forget, Nas, Rakim, Krs-One, Kanye West and DJ Premier's Classics(AF1 promo)

    Cowboys has always been one of my favorites from The Score. As far as any other underrated posse cuts I would have to go with Weight by Indelible MCs (Company Flow, J-Treds, Juggaknots) from Lyricist Lounge Volume One. Another one that comes to mind is a 9 minute posse cut called Mumia 911 from The Unbound Project Volume 1 which featured a bunch of MCs including Black Thought, Afu-Ra, Dead Prez, Zack De La Rocha, Chuck D, Jean Grae, Aceyalone, Pharoahe Monch, Tragedy, and more.

    Excellent piece Justin! Fugees definitely scored a hit with Cowboys. I could have the “underrated” conversation all day. One group that comes to mind is Black Sheep. Their albums were awesome! And Dres is a tragically slept-on lyricist. Black Sheep definitely deserve an “underrated” piece. It’s all happening.

    Picking a greatest Hip-hop album of all time, or even one's favourite Hip-hop album of all time, can be very tough indeeed, but if I was to pick one out of those I've gotten to own over the years, it would have the be Fugees' 'The Score', for sure. And I agree with Hunte that 'Cowboys' stands out Big Time.. It's creative and out-of-the-box like few other tracks I can think of. And I've always wondered whether I'm the only one so blown away by that track, 'coz no one ever seems to talk much about it. Great to know at least one notable Hip-hop commentator out there agrees. Finally!

    I know TCM is a journalist himself so it might be kinda weird for him to be the interview subject on Vlad's show but I'd definitely watch a series of interviews with him getting more opinions on whatever subjects, much like how cool it was listening to him on Rap Critics's show, DEHH and course with Rude Jude.

    Great video Justin. May I suggest a topic for a later video? The renaissance or rebirth of “hardcore, dark gangsta rap/horrorcore rap” going on today with artists like Bones, $uicideboy$, Pouya, Rozz Dylliams, Germ, Ghostemane, Seed Of 6ix, Swag Toof, Grey 59, Buffet Boys, etc. and the impact acts like Three 6 Mafia, Lord Infamous (of course of 36M), Scarface, Geto Boy’s, Hot Boys, No Limit and other southern hip hop artists have on these newer guys
